I had such a terrible experience with this doctor and nurse Mary. I actually saw them back in October 2025 and waited to write this to see if my feelings would change. I'm not a big fan of writing negative reviews but something tells me I need to speak up about my experience with them last summer and fall. I came to them on a referral from the VA which is very difficult to get in the first place. The VA actually recommended this facility to me because they had sent many women to them in the past. I should have done more research but it was on the spot so I agreed. From the start, Mary was extremely cold and seemed like she'd rather not be there. I saw her multiple times for multiple appointments and she was never very friendly. I actually felt like I was ruining her morning to be honest. I don't think I ever saw her smile. To be fair I always had an earlier appointment so maybe she's not a morning person but as a nurse myself I know many other nurses who would love to work there so that was just very off putting. Dr. Couvares (spelling?) was even worst. He was always cold, blunt and said some things that will unfortunately stick with me forever given the nature of the business there. He talks at you not with you. He goes on and on while you're still trying to process what he is saying. I was a labor and delivery nurse for almost 7 years and even for me the lingo he used was difficult to follow. I would ask questions and felt like I was a burden. I did all my lab tests and procedures on time as they instructed me to and was after that to make a separate video appointment than my husband to go over each of our results. I wanted to be together for those because it is such a sensitive topic and I lean on him to ask questions when I'm still stuck on the crushing terminology the doctor used just a second ago. Nope, had to be separate. So I took my last video call with the doctor in a parking lot in my car alone. He proceeded to talk at me for 15 minutes about what he saw which was not good news. Then tells me my ovaries are "circling the drain" and that the chances of me getting pregnant on my own are "slim to none". He told me that I'm also not a good candidate for IVF and if I was I should use donor eggs. I just sat and listened and tried to hold back tears. He left me with no options going forward. He just said oh you appear to have some inflammation somewhere in your body but we don't know where so I'm prescribing an acyclovir for you to take. He said work on diet and exercise and proceeded to lecture me on that without asking what I have done to be healthier since starting these tests months earlier. I had actually lost 25lbs since the start and was busting my butt in the gym. I'm only 165lbs at 5ft 5 mind you. I felt insulted and discarded in that moment. I got off the call and called my husband and bawled on the phone after. This doctors words and the way he made me feel will stick with me forever unfortunately. I'm not sure if it was because I came to him on a referral from the VA or because he knew I was a nurse but I can't shake how awful the whole experience was. Afterwards, nobody followed up with me. Months went by and I just kinda gave up on the idea of having a second baby. One positive takeaway was my experience with the blonde lady was very pleasant the two times she did procedures on me. I can't remember her name but I believe she was a PA there. She was amazing. Very warm and walked me through everything with care and sensitivity. Very professional and friendly both times. Do your research and go somewhere where the entire staff from start to finish handle your situation with care and understanding. It's hard enough for us women going through struggles trying to get pregnant or stay pregnant, we don't need more hurdles in the way. I hope this helps. read more

After 5 miscarriages and a lot of research I am so happy I went to see Dr C. We had been to a different DR that had suggested I do IVF, I knew in my gut that was not what I needed. We landed at IVF Phoenix and spent several months doing labs, trying different supplements/protocols. Dr C digs deeper to get to the root of the problem and actually correct things in the body for an achievable pregnancy. For the first time in 5 years, I had a successful pregnancy. The best part for me was the weekly monitoring/labs/ultrasounds that gave me a peace of mind in what was normally the scariest weeks!! I've debated on writing this review for 10 months now, and feel that now is the appropriate time. Last summer my husband and I had been trying to conceive for 6 months once our daughter turned 2. I had an abnormal cycle and had blood work taken for my hormone levels. After they came back abnormal they recommended I see a fertility specialist given my age of 36. After calling several fertility specialist that came recommended I found that most had a 3-6 month wait, time that I was not willing to waste. So, I came across IVF Phoenix that was able to get me in right away. My first appointment was virtual with the doctor and his assistant. It seemed very professional, they were very informative, and asked me many relevant questions. They recommended a few routine tests including an ultrasound, blood work, and a test of how well my tubes are functioning. They also recommended that my husband's sperm get tested. All seemed like a great plan and I ended the appointment feeling hopeful. My first appointment at their Scottsdale location was very awkward. Covid had just become widespread so I had to go to the appointment alone. The staff was not friendly at all, I was treated like a number. They put me in a small exam room and the doctor came in shortly after. He performed an ultrasound and explained that I only showed having one follicle when most women my age produce 14. I was confused and wanted to ask more questions, but he quickly left the room and never came back. I wasnt sure if I was supposed to come out of the room or wait for him to return. I finally got dressed and opened the door asking a medical assistant where I was supposed to go. She then sent me to a room to have my blood drawn. Once that was finished I told the receptionist I had no idea what to do next. She told me to schedule the next tests a few days later. I left the office feeling stunned, confused, devastated...I googled everything I could find for "only one follicle". What did this mean? My next appointment was at the Mesa location to have my tubes tested. Again, the front office woman was very cold and short with me. She put me into a room and told me to get undressed. The doctor came in with his assistant. The procedure was so uncomfortable that I almost fainted. The doctor said my tubes were blocked and had barely any opening. They then sent me to another room for a different test. I again left the office with no further explanation from the doctor and felt confused. The front office woman said the next step was to have a virtual appointment with the doctor the following week. As you can imagine, I googled everything possible. What did all of this mean? After an agonizing week of waiting my husband and I had the zoom call with the doctor. He stated that I had diminished ovarian reserve and had very little to zero chance of conceiving on my own. He recommended donor eggs or 6 months of eliminating my ovulation along with his special diet treatment plan. He said with one follicle I didn't even qualify for IVF. Then he said something I will never forget. Do not even waste your time trying to get pregnant naturally, there was almost no chance I would ever get pregnant. I was stunned and devastated. My husband wanted a second opinion, but we waiting to schedule an appointment until after we returned from a relaxing beach vacation that we desperately needed. When we returned I scheduled an appointment with a different practice but right before the appointment I got a positive pregnancy test. I was shocked, how could this be?! For anyone that is told you will not get pregnant naturally, please do your research. I do believe this doctor was going off of the scientific evidence that he found, but he was wrong. And the entire team was very insensitive and made me feel like just a number. 10 months later I have the most beautiful baby boy and am so thankful that I can prove him wrong. read more

I have waited an entire year from my miscarriage to write this review so that hopefully I could do it with less anger and more clarity so that I could be fair, but even a year later I would still never recommend Dr Couvaras to someone. I was not treated with compassion. I felt like a number or a puzzle to be figured out and nothing more. The main nurse was aggressive and rough with the internal ultrasounds. Dr Couvaras seemed to rush through every consultation like he was trying to get it over with as quickly as possible. He also did not explain much rationale behind the treatment plan or explain anything unless I specifically asked. He recommended IVF right from the start and in hindsight that feels extreme. When I miscarried the nurse saw I was upset and just said "I'll give you a minute" and then left. She never said sorry for your loss. Dr Couvaras never even called or emailed to express condolences. I never saw him or talked to him again after the transfer day. I honestly felt like I left traumatized. Mary (a nurse) was kind and I liked the phlebotomist. Once I needed a consultation and Dr Couvaras was out of town so I met with the newer female doctor there. She was so kind and compassionate and I felt like a human in that office for the first and only time throughout the 2.5 years I was being treated there. read more

I reached out to IVF Phoenix after having multiple losses. I worked closely with Dr.C, Erin and Mary at the Mesa office. Everyone is so welcoming and answered my questions quickly. Dr. C never once pushed IVF. Instead he runs multiple test to find the root cause to come up with an individualized protocol. They monitor you weekly, which gives peace of mind. I have PCOS and super irregular cycles. I have a super hard time ovulating on my own. So I need some extra help. Dr C does a THOROUGH testing period to rule anything out that could get in the way and to get some answers for me! It does take a lot of patience and a lot of time, you just have to trust the process. I'm not 100% sure how insurance works but my wife and I spent what little free time we had with these folks and the experience overall has left me in so much mental and emotional anguish. The doctor had an attitude about me being on my phone while he explained my wife's side of things to her which I felt was very unprofessional. I have extreme anxiety and I needed to keep my mind distracted because the whole situation stressed me out. I needed the facts and the next steps and he just wanted to g o over the science and the medical terms which some people may want or find helpful and that's great, but I wasn't one of those people and I was made to feel bad because of it. So now that, that story, is out of the way; we spent that time and drove an hour to get there and then plans are made and I get a recommendation to a urologist for a next step and I get reassurance from the doctors wife that they'll get us where we want to be and filled me with confidence that things were going to be OK... Just to call my wife the next day and say our insurance wont cover any of this by the beginning of the year. So. You took both of our money, full well knowing that we couldn't continue the process there? How were we to know that some sub division of United health care, for reproductive/REI stuff existed and you guys weren't covered? You had no problem taking our money or referring me to a urologist that you had no idea was covered or not. I'd give this place one star for this whole unprofessional attitude of the doctor and what felt like shady business practice over the insurance but, the doctors wife was very kind and re-explained what the doctor did not. Who knows if that was some emotional manipulation or not. This place might be great for someone with the right insurance so make sure to triple check that information before you waste your time. I'm beyond devastated. I've met a lot of doctors in my life for my various conditions and some care about their work and their patience and others care about money. I think it's clear which one applies here. EDIT: they never got back to my wife with her *paid for* blood test results. For medication they sold her. Nice. It's been nearly a month since we requested our records for our new doctor and they are DRAGGING A**. They addressed me in office about my review the first time so I can only assume they're taking their time because of this review. Only so long before it becomes a legal issue. I strongly urge this company to send our records as we and the new doctor has requested several times. As a response to the owner. You faxed over portions of the information. Theres a lot of blood work and other tests still missing. And you've been contacted several times since then asking for the rest of the paperwork to be met with "it'll take a couple weeks " its been more than a couple. We're not idiots and this is very upsetting that you want to play these games. Maybe check with your secretarial staff and see that they didnt send over ALL THE PAPERWORK. read more

Terrible people! Stay away from this stupid clinic! The doctor and his staff are COLD, horrible and rude! From my first consult with Dr. Couvaras to my last (HSG) procedure, it was a complete nightmare! He rushed the consult, which was 10 minutes max and left me like a deer in headlights not allowing me to ask any questions. When I did ask one, he dismissively and condescendingly said he'll have his assistant send me an email in their portal system with everything in detail so I can understand. Well, his assistants are a bunch of you know whats and were ten times more demeaning. I'm in SF and needed to do all this flying in so communication was more crucial, but vague, frustrating and confusing. My first visit was my ultrasound, which again left me more perplexed with no answers! After the procedure with Dr. C still in that room, he was dead silent with no feedback as to what he had seen on the screen. Complete silence. He is truly so cold and so odd! Like nothing is there. He only said, "Ok, get dressed and meet us outside." I thought to myself, "Ok, he can't at least tell me now if he saw something good or bad." When I came out of the room, a super aloof, rude and condescending assistant asked me a few questions and said, "Ok, we'll see you Thursday for the HSG." I asked her if I was going to see Dr. C at that moment to get feedback/results from my ultrasound to which she replied, "No, not today. You're a first time patient." He was literally across her desk, 15 feet away in his office with the door open and said nothing. I understand they have protocols, etc, but it was so weird. Again leaving with such confusion and emptiness. I felt numb and kept thinking to myself, "Why didn't I listen to my gut??!! Why did I continue with these horrible, stupid, rude people!" I hated everything about my experience with this office. As a woman who is trying so hard to get pregnant and has been for years, you're going through so many emotions of high levels of stress, frustration, worry- you name it! You would think they would treat you with respect, patience, compassion, empathy and bedside manner (as anyone would expect) but they didn't and they don't! They only add more stress on to everything you're already feeling. This was my very first time exploring these options and I regret it so very much. I left feeling more hopeless than I did going into it all. The final draw was when they told me they needed me to fly back in to retake the labs I had taken the day of my ultrasound because they had lost them. But it was the way they told me that was so insensitive and nonchalant where the staff member verbatim said, "It happens." They blamed the diagnostics company, but at this point nothing mattered and I was DONE with them! Please steer clear from this place! This has been the absolute worst experience. PLEASE do your research first about this clinic. Get first hand accounts of what actually goes on at this place. There are Facebook groups with hundreds of members who can give you their stories as well. This clinic messed up MAJORLY in our case ( I can't speak on that too much bc we are now having to take legal action) We went through the entire process and are now choosing to move clinics because their customer service and professionalism is so bad. Dr. C has ZERO bedside manner, The staff is incredibly rude and he can't even seem to get it together with his wife when they are both on the phone. I have had to save screen shots of every single portal message, text message and phone call I have had with this clinic. That is never a good sign but thank goodness I have. People make mistakes and I can understand that but not this clinic. This clinic will never own up to anything or take accountability. I would recommend Dr. Troche and New Directions. First comes love, then comes marriage, then comes the baby in the baby carriage; or so they say. My husband and I met in high school, fell in love and have been inseparable ever since. After high school we received degrees, began careers we love, were married two days before our 6th anniversary, bought a house and made it our home. For quite some time, everything fell into place. We always wanted to be parents and often talked about the future with excitement for the day we'd have some littles of our own. We made our lists of all the things we wanted to achieve before we became parents and checked them off one by one. After a while, some medical issues I was experiencing made it apparent that if we were able to have children, it wouldn't be easy. What we thought would be an exciting time of trying to conceive soon turned to what was almost a second full time job. We saw several doctors, all who informed me that I was young and otherwise healthy so there really shouldn't be an issue. None of which could actually tell me what was causing many unusual symptoms I had experienced. I had recommendations from "eat a lot of pineapple" to "Just sleep in a dark room". Finally after over a year of the run around, and several doctors who didn't have a clue what to do with me we began seeing a fertility specialist that to this day I consider an angel on earth! Doctor Couvaras lat IVF Phoenix was the first doctor to look at my medical history and find an underlying disorder which was at the root of our issues. His treatment approaches take a very "out of the box" perspective helping couples conceive and carry healthy babies. We finally began to feel a some sense of relief on what has be one of the biggest struggles we have experience together. Dr. Couvaras and the IVF team worked closely and cautiously with us to ensure we had every chance of achieving a successful pregnancy and healthy baby. After working with Dr. Couvaras for a few weeks and following his prescribed protocol, we became pregnant. Unfortunately, we had an early miscarriage with that baby and Dr. Couvaras and his staff couldn't have been more professional and compassionate in the matter. After taking a few weeks to heal, we began treatments again and fell pregnant once again after 6 short weeks. We are overjoyed to share that on December 4th, 2015 we welcomed our first healthy baby boy. In 2017, we visited the IVF team once more in hopes of expanding our family. We entered our fertility journey with a "we got this" or "we know what we're doing this time" mentality. As always, life had other plans and we found that my body was demonstrating different challenges than it had with my previous pregnancies. Without skipping a beat, Dr. C pulled out his bag of tricks with treatments aimed to eat away at the core of my endocrine issues. In 2018 we welcomed our second healthy baby boy. After 5 miscarriages and 3 doctors telling us the next pregnancy would work we finally sought the advice from a fertility specialist. Where to start... My husband had an injury when he was 13 and a few other issues. We always wondered if he would be able to have kids. After 6 months of no pregnancy we decided to have his sperm checked. My obgyn sent us to IVF Phoenix. We took the test with 3 days abstinence. We got the results and they were very low, essentially he had 1/4 of the sperm he should, 30% were moving and only 3% were shaped right. On the paper it said they recommend IVF ICSI. We fought for weeks, it was such an emotional time. My husband was adamant about going to a different Fertility doctor to have a second opinion. We went to New Direction Fertility took the test 3 days abstinence, & the results were perfect, his sperm was above average. 3 days later we found out I was pregnant. I called New Direction and asked how results could be THAT DIFFERENT & he said they can't be... essentially IVF Phoenix messed you somewhere. I can't even begin to express my gratitude for Dr C! I was referred to him by my OB after I had a horrific experience at Simon Med getting an HSG 4 years ago. The test helped me conceive my son so I knew it would be worth it as we were trying for baby number two with no success after the last year and half but dreaded having to have it done again. My OB referred me to Dr C and I'm forever grateful because I went in today and had a pleasant almost complete cramp free HSG. If you've had this done before you know that's a dream come true. They must not need clients. I set an appointment on a Thursday for the following Monday. Since the appointment was so soon, they stated it was mandatory I get all forms back to them by 3PM on Thursday the same day, which I did with plenty of time. Which also allowed them plenty of time in advance to get with my insurance company to verify coverage for the consultation. However, I recieved a text, not a call, from them on the day of the consult only a few hours before the schedule consult, that my insurance said I needed a referral from my main Dr. to them in order to have coverage. I text back saying thats not true. Then Dawn with the insurance department finally called me. She said the same thing. I told her that's not true. This is not a true HMO plan, that it is still an open access plan and a referral is not needed. She said that oh well we have to listen to what the insirance company says. So instead of listening to the client who does insurance for a living and who's company writes the coverage and knows for a fact this isn't true because they have 2 HMO plans, one needs a referral and the other is OPEN ACESS no referral needed, which is what I have, she assumes. The correct thing would have been to say ok thanks for the additional information and then call the insurance company back with this additional information to get the correct information from them so we could have had the consultation. This also should have been done further in advance to allow time to take care of things like this. I just said go ahead and cancel the consultation since she didn't seem willing to do anything on my behalf and didn't even really listen to or believe me. After years of trying to conceive I met with several doctors and chose Dr. Couvaras for a multitude of reasons. His meticulous approach is far beyond the one-size-fits all that I saw with other doctors. Dr. Couvaras dives deep into underlying causes of infertility and formulates a plan unique to each patient. I made lifestyle changes (diet, exercise, sleep), took natural supplementation to prepare my body and I was shocked to see positive changes in my blood labs. This guy knows what he is doing. I appreciate his eye for detail and felt truly cared for in his office. He takes his time and I never felt rushed. The team he has around him was quick to respond, patient with my questions, and always kind. I never met a doctor with so much of knowledge and patience to explain all what is going with us. Words cannot describe how amazing this whole team is. I will forever recommend them to anyone who asks. After trying unsuccessfully to conceive for five years, we were told we would need IVF to start our family. We went to another IVF clinic and they were amazingly unprofessional. Also, it would be five months before we could even get our initial consultation. We were given a business card for IVF Phoenix by my OB/GYN. From the first call, they were amazing. They take a very personalized approach for each of their patients. This isn't a cookie cutter type operation. Dr. Couvaras takes the time to do the tests and get the information needed to make sure that each patient has the best possible chance at conceiving. Dr. C is one of the best doctors I have ever seen. He doesn't treat you just like another number. He listens, cares and gets to the bottom of the problem! Not only is he a wonderful Doctor, but his staff is amazing and understanding. He has come in on his day off to take care of me.
