Dr. C is dedicated to, and goes the extra mile for his patients, even coming in on a weekend and holiday to just to work with my body's timing and then to address an emergency. When I experienced some strange symptoms another weekend, he took the time to reach out to and consult with another specialist, address my concerns and call in new prescriptions, all on his birthday. Dr. C's expertise and competence are also outstanding. I came to him with several rare preexisting conditions, poor egg quality and a high rate of aneuploidy after another doctor had recommended I try with donor eggs instead of my own. From my very first consultation, he was well informed on my conditions, asked new questions, and investigated things that had not previously been looked at. Once we started and had unsuccessful cycles, he came up with new strategies and ideas to overcome the issues I was facing. Even when I was ready to give up, he did not, and his confidence helped me overcome my fears and doubts to try again. When we finally got a euploid embryo, he did everything in his power to ensure I had a successful transfer, doing pre-implantation testing, adding a special protocol to my cycle, and supplement and lifestyle changes to boost the chances of success - and it worked. So we saw Dr. Couvaris for an IUI that did not work. Understand we do not blame him or his office for that, we're still trying and we understand fully that there are so many factors to consider when it comes to becoming pregnant. Dr. Couvaris may be an excellent physician. He may be a genius. But we don't really know since we've only briefly met him and literally everything he told us as far as our plan has changed since then. The frustrating thing is we don't know why things changed or if he was even involved in making those decisions or if his disaster of an office staff just made it up as they went along. First and foremost every time I had to walk into that office it was just mainly obvious that the people behind the desk were bothered that I was there. Compound this with the fact that they do not know what they are talking about. When they answer our questions it's always via their portal and in a message that is written at a 5th grade level. The messages are so unclear and lacking in punctuation that they're more confusing and simply lead to more questions. When my wife left her IUI procedure she was given post procedure instructions from three different people, and absolutely every version was vastly different from the one before it. Completely unacceptable. Also, prepare to be nickel and dimed into oblivion. Forget about getting labs or imaging from another provider if those might be covered by your insurance. Everything has to be done through them, and it always seems to be something new when you walk in their door. Show up for some labs? Oh hey, you need this $400 infusion that we never mentioned because we really think it will prevent you from having a miscarriage, you don't want a miscarriage do you? This office clearly cares about one thing, and it frankly isn't your outcome. If they did they would show even the slightest interest in making sure their staff were all on the same page. It's all about the dollar for them, and their lack of consistency and absolute bottom of the barrel approach to patient relations is all the proof of this one needs. Today they asked if we want to do another IUI and we told them we were unsure, but in the meantime we would like labs to sent to LabCorp so we can decide where we currently are in her cycle and make an informed decision. Despite the fact that they said we could use LabCorp this time, between the fact that they can't bill for these labs, and we haven't committed paying them more money, they can't be bothered to take send that lab order. If I paid a mechanic this much money I would expect to be kept informed as to the progress of my car. This is literally the future of our family I am talking about here, and they have shown that they can't even be bothered in the least to keep us in the loop. Seriously, ignore the reviews from people that are happy they got pregnant. Of course they're happy, they're finally having a baby. Look for reviews tempered with a little bit of reality. And the reality is they don't care. Their staff is so ignorant it's negligent, and there is NO WAY their administration isn't acutely aware of this, yet they choose to do nothing about it. read more

I'm so grateful that Dr. Couvaras helped us become a family of four! It was a multi-year journey for our family - we welcomed our first daughter naturally in 2016 when I was 36 and thankfully had an easy time conceiving. I falsely assumed it would be easy to expand our family when we were ready again. I am healthy and love to work out so never thought it would be "a thing" for us. In 2020, we tried to grow our family again. It took a few months to naturally get pregnant and I ended up having a miscarriage around week 8 or 9. Ironically my pregnancy confirmation was on our wedding anniversary and I would up having my first miscarriage that day. That was HARD. We waited a few months and still weren't having any success (and keeping in mind I was 40) so I reached out to a friend who experienced infertility. She's "that friend" that researches the heck out of her providers and she loved working with Dr. C. to have her daughter. Dr. C was the first fertility doctor that I worked with and I admired his wholistic and 'drilling down to the root issue' approach. He wanted to understand ME so he could create a custom roadmap for ME; not just pump me full of medication. At times, it was hard because his path for me required about six months of testing/assessment. His office was 50 miles from our house, I work full time and had a 4 y/o at the time so it was a lot to juggle. Plus, I am impatient and felt the time majorly ticking because I was now 41. I knew I had to trust the process as we ruled things out and got my body ready. There was nothing glaring to explain my secondary infertility and just chalked it up to my age. We decided that we would try the low-burn IUI route. The initial IUI worked but after a few weeks during a weekly ultrasound, the little embryo wasn't forming correctly. So we faced our second miscarriage in the fall of 2021. I felt like we had lost another year. I couldn't believe we were here again. We took a break to enjoy the holidays and reconnected with Dr. C in early 2022. In January 2022, I made a swift decision to go all-in on for full on IVF. That even caught me by surprise! It moved so fast - ordering a large dollar amount of medication within a few days and learning how to navigate all of the pricks, pokes and prods. And alllll the bloodwork. Dr. C captured 12 eggs on my 43rd birthday - I knew it was a special sign and just focused on being so positive because I love my birthday. The next few weeks were probably the hardest of the entire process as I received daily calls with a dropping count of viable embryos. But there was one. And it passed the pgt (genetic) testing. As my friend said, we just needed one. I clung to that and repeated it to myself so many times. We were gearing up for the embryo transfer in June 2022. Between February to June, Dr. C. put me on a specific cocktail of supplements and a small dose of medication to keep my body calibrated. I was at my final pre-embryo transfer appointment and Dr. C noticed my blood levels weren't right and that my uterus was in a funky position. This position had never happened before, and as anyone that has gone through the IVF process knows, there are A LOT of transvaginal ultrasounds. So he decided to delay the process because we had one precious embryo and he wanted my body in prime shape. This was a HARD pill to swallow (another delay) but I tried to focus on appreciating the fact that he wanted to give our embryo the best shot. Fast forward to October 26, 2022, we had our embryo transfer! My husband and I made a special day out of it, and as wild as it sounds, I had this warm glowing sensation in my abdomen the next several weeks. I felt like a dull ache (in a good way and it felt like something was growing/happening) for most of my first trimester. Fast forward again to December 30 when we had a small gender reveal party with our family on my mom's birthday (girl!) and fast forward even more to July 7, 2023 when we welcome our second daughter, Summer Hope, into our family. She's such a gift and we are so thankful for her - and while the waiting was very hard, this timing feels absolutely perfect. The IVF process is a lot. And after hearing lots of other stories, our two year journey feels on the short side. Dr. C is clearly very intelligent and wants the best for his patients. I always tried my best to follow along as I best I could. He does use a lot of medical terminology that I wasn't familiar with so I asked a lot of clarifying questions - sometimes that helped and other times it didn't. It's a very rigid process but you have to trust him and follow his protocol. The process can change quickly because of the frequent lab draws. As a planner, you won't know the next several steps because it can change so frequently. You will get tired of taking the supplements. This will be a novel...Dr. Couvaras is truly a miracle worker! Because of his great breadth of knowledge, we were able to conceive a HEALTHY baby girl through timed intercourse, a little bit of Clomid and HGH. We had undergone a 4 year fertility journey before we found Dr. C, and after our initial consult, it was only 3 months before we were pregnant! He was our 3rd fertility doctor and a referral from my sister who's friend was unsuccessful for years at having children with several attempts of IVF until she went to him, she now has several children because of him. She also knew 3 other women who used him and had 3 successful pregnancies as a result who have all tried IVF at other places with no success. Dr. C deals with the root cause of infertility and his methods may seem unconventional because it's not just westernized medicine, there's a component of nutrition and strict protocols I was to do as well. I was required to do extensive blood work and exams to help identify root causes. Because I lived out of state, I just went to a local lab testing center to get most of my work done and my previous fertility clinic for exams, as per his request. He had me on blood thinner before and during pregnancy. The schedule he created for me was strict and based on my lab results (100g protein daily, limited carbs and no carbs after 7:30pm, exercise daily between certain hours, daily sun exposure, etc etc etc), to which I followed to a T. After all, I desperately wanted to get pregnant and with his methodologies, it only took 3 months of strict protocols (out of 4 yrs!). I understood his "tinkering" with me getting labs and exams throughout the entire time was priming and preparing my body with each tweak and adjustment and recommendation on his end. Just to paint a picture, the previous two fertility doctors wanted me to immediately go the IVF route, whereas Dr. C wanted to get to the root issue before making his decision. The other doctors did some lab work and exams, identified I had low quantity egg count (as per my AMH levels) and considered my age to be a factor (I was over 35 at the time) and pushed for IVF. I went the IVF route with the second doctor, the initial egg retrieval was about $20k and only 8 eggs were retrieved with only one fully maturing. When we got the results back from genetic testing, our hearts were broken when we learned it was an abnormal embryo and couldn't be implanted. The NP went over the results with me and very kindly, with excellent bedside manner, said if I wanted to do a "peace of mind" egg retrieval and it results into the same thing, we could then move onto an egg donor route. Essentially dropping another $20k to possibly end up with the same result; their predictions were that because of my age and low egg quantity, that I also possibly had low quality eggs as well. Well, something didn't sit right with that answer. Although that's been an answer to so many women's prayers, it didn't feel right for our case. We ended up setting up a free consultation with Dr. C because what did we have to lose??! I mentioned on 3 different occasions to Dr. Couvaras my concern with having "low quality eggs" and he wasn't concerned in the slightest based on my blood work. I was concerned I needed to go the IUI or IVF route based on previous assumptions, instead, he wanted to try timed intercourse first. We did that for our first cycle and I got pregnant! The only time I flew out to Scottsdale to his office was right before my timed intercourse so that I could get some IV fluids in to help with higher probability of conception, boy am I glad I did! We are currently working with Dr. C for baby #2 and are so eternally grateful for his services! Our first baby is now 13 months old and is 100% healthy, happy and our little miracle. By the way, my heart goes out to all the patients who haven't had as great of an experience as I have. Perhaps because Dr. C was my 3rd fertility doctor (from 3 separate clinics), I was more aware that his office might run differently than the previous two clinics. I hope this doesn't dissuade anyone from utilizing his services. I also wasn't looking for comfort and compassionate bedside manner, I was looking for an effective doctor who could accomplish the task at hand -- the ability for me to get pregnant with my own eggs (not donor eggs) and my husband's sperm, and we were able to accomplish both. Fortunately, he and his staff are great, but understand that he's very fast moving, he talks fast, he thinks fast and explains things in medical terms; he's not trying to dismiss you. My video consults were short and to the point, but that was completely fine with me because I received further instruction via their portal every single time. Don't be afraid to ask him questions and address any concerns with him, he always listens. Also, I asked a TON of questions through their portal whenever I didn't understand something as well. It's hard to even know where to start when it comes to talking about Dr. C and the IVF team because they're truly all remarkable, one of a kind people. From the beginning of my first appointment with Dr. C I knew he was different than most doctors, and he proved that about himself time after time. He never seemed perplexed about anything that didn't work, and he always had a plan. This is going to be a long read but stick with me... My husband and I started going to a different fertility doctor in the valley after a year of TTC. They were nice and our experience started off great. I was diagnosed with unexplained infertility and we started IUI. I got pregnant on the first IUI but ended up miscarrying. After that, my body felt different and I kept telling our doctor this but they continued recommending IUI without any further testing. We went through three failed IUIs after that before I decided I was tired of feeling like I wasn't being heard. They were taking about moving to IVF (which I was not opposed to). My gut told me something else was going on. And for anyone going through infertility, it's VERY hard. Every time you get that call saying you are not pregnant is devastating and it really takes a toll on you. So when you also feel like you are just another number, trust your gut and move on. So I started researching other fertility doctors and I narrowed it down to two, based on recs from friends. I scheduled consults with both and my husband and I both felt like Dr. C stood out to us because it seemed like he actually listened to us. He didn't buy the "unexplained fertility" diagnosis and had some suspicions as to what was going on before even doing any tests. After we did the diagnostic testing, his suspicions were correct and I had issues with implantation and thin uterine lining. He said he wouldn't even suggest IVF at that time because it probably wouldn't work. I can't imagine the emotional toll that would have taken on top of throwing away money! Also, my other doctor kept pushing clomid and Dr C said he would never use that on someone who had a thin uterine lining because the med can actually cause thinning. We also found that my TSH was super low/basically bottomed out. He sent me to an endocrinologist and I found out after my miscarriage I had developed post partum hypothyroiditis. That would explain why I had felt so different. I definitely had symptoms of hypothyroidism. They monitored me and my TSH began to improve on its own. Dr. C started me on a regimen of supplements, diet change and exercise before doing IUI. He also recommended PRP and IVIL to prep my body. The first IUI didn't work, which was crushing. At that point my fertility benefits had run out for the year. My husband and I decided to pay out of pocket for one more IUI before talking about next steps. Now here is where Dr. C went from a good doctor to a great doctor. He didn't just try the same thing as before. He switched up/added meds this time around to tailor the treatment even further. And I got pregnant and stayed pregnant! I am now a mom to the sweetest baby boy. I truly don't think this would have happened without Dr.C. Also, the rest of the staff are amazing and so sweet! If you are looking for answers go to IVF Phoenix and see Dr. Couvaras! We had been trying for a long time and went to a different IVF clinic previously with no success and few answers. My mom did some research and advised me to get a 2nd opinion and from my first consult with Dr. C I knew this clinic would be different. He approaches everything from a scientific perspective and doesn't just put you on a random plan. He had me go through bloodwork which I thought I did at the last clinic but he came back with new information I had never heard before. My husband did a semen analysis and he was able to shed some light on his results that my previous Dr. never mentioned. We went through our first egg retrieval and had our embryos tested and only one came back normal. We know we want more than 1 child in the future so we decided to go through another egg retrieval. He made a slight tweak to my protocol and we came out with 4 normal embryos that round. Before transfer we did more bloodwork testing to make sure my hormones were at the right level then he advised me to do an ERA to see how many hours of progesterone I would need. Results came back that I would need more hours than the average person. Had I not done that test we most likely would have miscarried our first transfer. We were able to schedule my transfer and now I am almost 11 weeks pregnant and officially graduated from IVF Phoenix and seeing a normal obgyn now. Absolutely terrible! If I could rate less than 1 star, this is exactly what my rating to them would be! Allow me to give you some back story- as many of you ladies know how hard it is to even bring your mind and emotions around to half way "accept" the fact that you need more help than just tracking ovulation to conceive and carry full term. That's already emotional and exhausting to say the very least! I sought out this clinic with hopes high and full on optimism to allow help with me on this journey- ONLY to get (what seemed like)RACIALLY PRO-FILLED blindsided and mistreated!!!!! My first "off" impression with this facility was when I was scheduled an "apt" with the doctor which only lasted 9 mins! (This of course sent me through a loop as I was currently private pay, and they already had payment from me) I call back later in the day to express my concern with such a short "virtual apt". Laurie apologizes and begins telling me that "there was a connection error and if I wanted another apt that someone would reach out and get me scheduled ". Long story short- I didn't receive a call back- at all! I then call again the next day (as I briefly remember from my short visit with the doctor- him mentioning labs needing to be done) I again- talk to Laurie and she goes through my (fertility plan that is only posted in the patient portal) she then brings me up to speed on them only communicating with patients through the portal? The next morning comes around and I'm OH SO EAGER to get my labs done and be yet another step closer in my journey just to get shut down all over again. I go in for my apt at 7:45am with my husband on the phone (as he wanted to be in attendance but couldn't physically) I walk into the office, up to the desk- just to see the ladies at the front look and me and get right back to doing whatever they were doing. I couldn't get a "goodmorning, hello- or anything" they said NOTHING! So I stood there for a few minutes longer and finally got annoyed and irritated and said "is there something that I'm supposed to do" one of the ladies tells me that I need to fill out whatever form that they had on the computer- so I did. By this point- my heart was sunken. Long story short- I leave the apt, go to the car and ask to speak with whoever Laurie was. They text me and tell me that she'll be out- 15-20 mins later she comes out with some staff just to approach me like " I reviewed the cameras and my staff did nothing wrong, it's against hippa violations to talk to you while you're on the phone" I respond to her- how I KNOW for a fact that hippa does not have anything to do with bedside manner- compassion and customer service! I WAS PISSED!!!!!! Literally PISSED!!!!! I also mentioned how I was feeling as if this was a racial issue as I'm a black woman and she. Begins to tell me, how she's foreign and her husband foreign and whatever else- still! Bulllll- not once apologized or offered any solution to help or even ease a thing. Whaaaatever! I'm sorry for making this so long- but moral of the story, they lack a lot of factors. ALLLOTTT! I wouldn't recommend a single soul to this person. TERRIBLE! They are terrible! read more

If you have zero trauma and are desperate to get pregnant even if it means dealing with a doctor who doesn't listen to you, I bet this place is great. If you have trauma, read on... Dr. Couveras needs to learn more about how to have compassion for trauma, especially as a doctor who deals with women's intimate parts. He is horribly trauma uniformed and shamed me for asking simple questions like why my husband couldn't be present up until the actual procedure so I felt safe. He gave me crap for asking a question so I could understand it better, "See, there you go again bargaining." Is he really surprised that I am advocating for medical care in a benevolent way for my psychology? He has obviously been burned by other women who have been through trauma, so it's really ironic that he only has compassion for his own traumatic experiences and uses that to justify treating women who have been through trauma like crap. When I expressed concerns before a pelvic exam, he showed no compassion and rushed a medical assistant into the room to cover his own butt. He made it clear that she was there for him rather than to help me; although, she was kind and held my hand and understood she needed to hold space. After all this, I sent a text asking if we could work out a way for my husband to be present or to let me know if I needed to find a different provider. They said I had to meet with him. Why did he waste both of our time with a phone call that he was late to just to tell me to find another provider? It wasn't even a conversation really because he was just dictating to me and shaming me if I asked any questions. It was a one-sided conversation. I'm going to go give my money to a provider who actually listens and shows compassion for women's trauma. It's fine if he can't accommodate my needs, but he needs to do it in a respectful way where I can actually ask questions without him being judgmental for me asking him to do what I'm paying him to do. read more

After 2 failed IVF transfers and a late pregnancy loss, I traveled from out of state to consult with Dr. C (since he had a reputation for difficult cases) and I'm so glad I did! I highly recommend him if you have had a difficult road to pregnancy that doesn't fit the cookie cutter mold of a lot of facilities. He is like a mad scientist, in a good way, trying to identify the reason for previous failures and was one of the only doctors who was equally focused on trying to prevent & identify the cause of my late pregnancy loss too. He figured out I have a genetic inversion, put me on a special protocol for MTFHR, guided me to do PGS when I wasn't sure I wanted to do on just 1 embryo (I was later so glad we did test), and was willing to let me do ERA with my out of state doctor even though he generally doesn't do these (which showed Dr.C's protocol is exactly what I needed for transfer). He isn't afraid to try cutting edge new techniques (like PRPs and infusions), which I think may have been part of why this last round worked. He isn't a super warm fuzzy kind of doctor but he really does care about getting you pregnant. He came in on a Sunday, on Mother's Day, to see me because he had a hunch I needed an extra scan (and he was right- single handedly saved my entire cycle). Lenny, the embryologist, was very informative and accessible. There is no one I would trust more with my embaby. Nurses Mary and Jackie were always really attentive and went above and beyond, Courtney was also very patient with me when I had spotting in the early weeks of pregnancy and was panicked. The lab tech also is super nice, watched over me when I fainted on her one time lol. I really liked that at IVF Phoenix you regularly interacted with all staff, my previous clinic I never met my nurse or embryologist in person. I also really liked that they did the flow sheet at every visit (to keep track of dosages) and that they go over what meds to inject/how to inject (something I could've really used on my first cycle at another clinic). They are flexible on who you choose to use for medication ordering. The scheduling for labs was a bit different than my last clinic, you have to schedule instead of walk-in which wasn't the greatest for my work schedule when I couldn't get the first apt of the day but I managed. I only had to travel to AZ a few times to complete egg retrieval, testing, and transfer. Coordinating from out of state is challenging, but was so thankful they were willing to do. The cost of IVF at their facility was significantly more affordable than here in Illinois. I'm currently 20 weeks with a miracle baby that I'm not sure I would have if not for Dr. C, praying this pregnancy continues on, so I can get my rainbow! read more

Dr. Couvaras is a experienced and great doctor. I was able to naturally get pregnant with his help. However his team is terrible. No follow up, unorganized and don't know anything going on with his patients. They show no care. I never knew who I could directly speak to if I had questions. I'm sure Dr. Couvaras is a busy doctor and have many more obligations but his team should have ongoing support system when working with his patients. At least check in with patients via phone and not through text. I don't recommend. read more

Honestly I wouldn't go here again. Dr. C is a nice man but his wife is another thing. Went here for months with no plan of action. Got pregnant on my own and unfortunately it was a chemical pregnancy. I had no idea I could get pregnant , especially on my own. When I had finally gotten pregnant again on my own and had another chemical with no help as far as them trying to understand why this was happening to me , I decided to leave and try another well known office. The wife called me ( I guess she does something special in the office) and told me I didn't follow the plan and that it was basically my fault as far as why I miscarried. Probably the most insensitive thing someone has ever said to me. I'm glad I went elsewhere because the I actually got successful no thanks to them. Also I did an iv to help me keep my second pregnancy from here the doctor didn't advise me that my progesterone levels were dropping every time I took a cbc and I paid $375 for this. Had I know there was a problem with my progesterone I would've been holding that baby in my arms. He also makes you test for things over and over and over again. You will communicate and see the staff more than the Dr so it is vital you have a good expierence with them as well and when they are rude and unwilling to help it is frustrating! If I could give this clinic 0 stars I would. I'm at a clinic in Chicago (self pay). My grandpa passed away suddenly and I had to fly to Phoenix for his services. I happened to need a monitoring appointment the day of his funeral. I called a dozen clinics who all quoted me $300. To my surprise IVF Phoenix (Carissa) told me she was so sorry for what I was going through and there would be 0 charge. I got to my appointment 1 hour before my grandpas services and they told me they would need to charge me $400 and that Carissa made a mistake. Leaving me with no option to find another clinic. Yes I just yelped my doctor! Well he is definitely Yelp worthy. My story... I had been misdiagnosed with a uterine abnormality that could not be corrected, by 7 different doctors over a 15 year span. One would say I have it another would say I didn't. Finally after 3 very painful losses I told my doctor I wanted to see a specialist in dealing with my particular abnormality. Back-story, I had been married for 13 years and we had been trying the entire marriage. Only 3 pregnancy's occurred and only 1 went past 8 weeks. Extremely poor customer service and communication. I feel they are taking advantage of the COVID-19 situation by scheduling unnecessary teleconferences, in order to log billable hours to their clients. There was absolutely no reason for these teleconferences and they would never schedule an in office visits to discuss the sane things. They scheduled multiple teleconferences with their PA after I spoke to the doctor. In those teleconferences there was zero substance and zero updates surrounding my wife & I's situation. They would schedule the teleconference and almost verbatim repeat what the doctor had already discussed with us, as if they were reading the doctors notes from a previous visit. Then we would receive a $110.00 + bill for that 10 minute teleconference that had zero substance & covered nothing. I would not recommend anyone go here should they need assistance with fertility / pregnancy. read more

Dr Couvarus came highly recommended to us by our OB after having several recurrent miscarriages. After visiting with Dr Couvarus it was obvious to my husband and I that he was not like any other doctor we had ever met. He took the time to listen to us and developed a protocol that was specific to our needs in an effort to get to the root cause of my miscarriages. It seemed overwhelming at first with the amount of different supplements I was taking but after following the protocol for 8 months we became pregnant on our first round of IUI and he supported my pregnancy through the first trimester. We now have a beautiful healthy 2 month old daughter and plan on going back to Dr Couvarus this fall for our 2nd baby. The office staff at IVF Phoenix is very supportive and knowledgeable. They are available after office hours and on weekends if you have any questions. I will add that prior to going to Dr Couvarus we were working with another highly regarded fertility Dr in Scottsdale whose diagnosis for our losses was "unexplained recurrent miscarriages."
