Mary and her team were spectacular. It felt like I was in the hands of angels for my second birth. I would 100% work with Mary again.

She is clearly knowledgeable and experienced, and I am thankful for the role she played in my birth. During transition and pushing, she offered guidance and support that was helpful in those intense final hours. I do believe she understands birth well and brings expertise to the room. That said, there were a few things that did not sit right with me. At multiple points during contractions, when I looked up, she was visibly on Facebook and Instagram. I understand that long labors can involve downtime, but she was only physically present at the hospital for a few hours during transition and pushing. Given the relatively short window of in person support, it felt disappointing and inappropriate that she was on social media during that time. It made me feel like she was not fully present in such a vulnerable moment. There were also moments where her reactions felt disproportionate, such as when the toilet water unexpectedly splashed up. Her response heightened the situation rather than helping me feel grounded and calm. In addition, I found the overall value of the package to be underwhelming compared to other doulas I interviewed. Many offered formal childbirth classes (which were extra through MM) and ongoing support groups as part of their services, whereas Modern Mama primarily offered monthly mini classes on rotating topics, which did not always feel directly relevant or comprehensive. For the investment, I had expected more structured education and support. Though I was appreciative of the nice photos that were included. I am grateful for her knowledge and the role she played in helping bring my baby into the world, but I do wish the level of presence, professionalism, and overall value had been stronger throughout the experience. I likely won't hire Modern Mama again although I don't have experience with the other doulas.

As first time parents, we found that we didn't have a true understanding of what was best to do once we brought our little guy home from the hospital. Sure - we had read a lot and had additional support to help us get ready, but with Modern Mama, we found a professional who specializes in exactly what we needed - "what does good look like?" / "what should we be doing?" / "what are we doing right/ wrong?" From the moment that Kristin walked into our door, we were met with a calm and welcoming presence that shared recommendations for getting to sleep, eat, and dressed appropriately. She shared with us what most parents do and what is truly a choice for us. What's more, she was an incredible support for my wife who was breastfeeding for the first time, encouraging her and helping her to establish appropriate techniques and set her up with pumping appropriately, which would have taken us weeks without the support. Lastly, Kristin also followed up with us multiple times after the nights that she had stayed, seeing how we were doing and following up with great resources tied to the questions that we had + other professionals that could help with some of the areas that we were looking to develop. We'd highly recommend the support from Modern Mama and specifically Kristin as a doula for and first time parents - I truly believe they were a primary reason for us to start off on the right foot at home. (For reference, we had the 3 night package for the first couple of nights at home)

However the ultrasound doctor strongly advised to give birth at a hospital. At the time we didn't understand why or the urge to sway us away from the birthing center. When we told the midwive she immediately tried getting rid of me as a patient. I had to call around different doctor offices trying to be seen at 39 weeks which was impossible to get an appointment. My husband finally bugged the midwife enough for her to tell me to "go to a hospital, lie about having contractions" that she would make a call and have some random doctor that I've never met claim me as his patient for me to be admitted. We were left with no doctor, no help, no answers, told to lie to medical staff. It was completely stressful. No medical facility should ever treat someone like this ! Especially someone who is pregnant . It turns out that OUR midwive was responsible for the death of a baby during labor. 3 months prior to my delivery. Along with a list of previous medical misconduct. In the end we lucked out with a healthy baby, but literally shame on all of you. That being said, there are a few things I've reflected on from my time at Blossom and I have recalled a couple experiences that left me feeling uncertain and hurt. I had desired to reduce ultrasound exposure to my baby as much as possible, so I had agreed to the 20wk anatomy scan and a position check around 30wks. I requested that the fetoscope be used rather than Doppler and that no other unnecessary ultrasounds be done. I met HEAVY resistance to this request from each midwife, but particularly from Kassie who pushed my boundaries in an unprofessional way and she came off very judgmental. Rather than explaining risks AND benefits, I felt ostracized, especially when I said "is this okay" and Kassie said "well, no", but with NO ability to explain ultrasound risks to me in an articulate or evidence-based way. I truly am sharing this experience to help Blossom consider a different way to approach something like this if it arises in the future. I ended up having a hospital birth with Kassie and she truly was an amazing midwife, so supportive and a great advocate. One other issue was that after my birth my placenta was sent to pathology because of some concerns about it. Chynna told me about this in my postpartum checkup, but I was never given the report to look over for myself, and she had said that Dr. Nichelle would reach out to me via phone call to review it which didn't happen. Dr. Nichelle was also incredible during my birth and I'm thankful for her care. Again, my perinatal care from Blossom overall was excellent and I wish I had been proactive to address these issues with the midwives in person, but I also feel that it is good to share my experiences for others to know what care is like at Blossom. I do truly believe that each of these midwives care about you and your baby's safety and desire for you to have the birth you want! There is certainly more freedom in your care here than at a hospital! Thank you to my midwives and to Blossom for my experience. I look back on it fondly.

We had Jen and Amy as our overnight doulas, and they were absolutely wonderful. On each of their first nights, they checked in on how I was doing, making sure I felt supported as a first-time mom. They prioritized my own mental well-being just as much as our baby's physical well-being. They really listened to any concerns I had and just made us feel at ease. They even went the extra mile with chores, like happily washing bottles and doing baby laundry. Amy, being a lactation specialist, was a pro at giving me breastfeeding tips. Jen was extremely helpful with that as well. Both had a very soothing and calm presence that made nighttime routines peaceful. They were easy guests to have in our home. But truly, both of them gave our daughter their undivided attention each night, and what they have is really a gift. We're so grateful for their support.

Our baby was born during one of the worst snowstorms in years and she made sure she was prepared and there to support us (even if it meant getting snowed in at the hospital). Without her care and experience we would've had a very different birth that likely would've ended in an emergency c-section. I had a lot of anxiety about giving birth but Jenn helped put me at ease and explained things very well. She is warm and has an evidence based approach to her work. She also looked out for my partner which I really appreciated, ensuring he ate and rested. Afterwards we also used Jenn's overnight doula services to care for our infant and she was just as fantastic with him. Not only did we get a good night's rest when she was here (priceless), we also felt so supported with learning about newborn care and dealing with all of the emotional aspects of becoming parents. Our journey would've been different without her and we will forever be grateful that we had her support.

Diane and Belinda are educated, caring, and very intentional when it comes to the care for both mom and baby. Finding Willow birth center was an answered prayer. The purpose of updating my review is the transparency of the billing team or whoever is in charge of finances over there. NOT GOOD. Bad enough to dampen the overall experience. With our first child, we left with a $1000 credit that no one told us about until we went back with our second child. We were overcharged and not told. With our second child, we chose to use insurance which helped, because our insurance team was able to help us keep track of the tasks that they were billing for. With our third and fourth child, we were only able to receive prenatal care. WHICH I AM SO GRATEFUL, Willow is the most comforting and reassuring group of midwives in Arizona (in my personal experience) However, from our first appointment with Willow for our third and fourth children, we were told by both them, and by our insurance company that all of my prenatal care was completely covered.... MY KIDS WERE BORN IN AUGUST AND IT IS DECEMBER AND WE ARE STILL RECEIVING BILLS FROM THEM. I HAVE CALLED THE FINANCE TEAM, WILLOW, AND THE NUMBER ON THE EMAIL TRYING TO BILL US. WE HAVE YET TO RECEIVE A CALLBACK. THIS IS MY REVIEW AND MY PERSONAL EXPERIENCE, HOWEVER, THE FRIENDS THAT I'VE SENT TO WILLOW TO HAVE BABIES ARE STILL STRUGGLING WITH THE FINANCE TEAM A LITERAL YEAR AFTER HAVING THEIR CHILDREN. When I go to have my fifth child, God willing, I would so quickly call Rachel and Rubyan for a home birth if they have those qualifications by then, *wink wink* My suggestion is, if you choose Willow, WHICH I DO HIGHLY RECOMMEND, pay upfront in cash. Do not mess with their finance team. Not because you won't win, but because you'll be fighting a long time and that's the last thing any family or new mother needs postpartum. ***side note, all the first time moms upset about being sent home... that's totally normal to have a long birth. Your body has literally never had a baby before. With my first baby, I was sent home twice during my 19 hour labor. Healthy 9 pounder was born at 41 weeks and 6 days. STOP. BLAMING. YOUR. MIDWIFE!!!

What about your wife asking for EMS when a call should have happened 14 mins prior? Gas lit and told it was only a minute or two. Thank GOD for EMS records! TIME IS BRAIN. Emergence isn't qualified for EMERGENCY. My family travailed the tension of life and death in our story, and while satisfactory, and normal physiologic experiences are great, hearing how licensed medical professionals handle dire, forlorn clinical scenarios is of utmost importance in precisely displaying a facet of skill and level of care that literally cannot be displayed at any other time, other than conjuncture. Making my testimony especially meaningful. If you had no complications, you can't speak to the things I can, because quite frankly both my baby and wife faced life endangering encounters and the assumed ability to manage such was sorely lacking, from not 1 but 2 tenured midwives who attended my wife's delivery. You could statistically bank on the likelihood of a normal birth and be fine BUT when it's not fine, it is catastrophically and preventably not fine. Survival bias is real. CPM midwife Caitlyn has 13 violations with the state regarding this birth, and may have license revocation later this year. Look up AZ care check to follow objective details. CNM owner Nancy has an open investigation with her board as well. She has spoken publicly on other midwives "deficiencies" and failure to uphold scope and statutes - and ironically has violated the same statutes she condemned others for while functioning like she wasn't also accountable to Arizona rules and regulations. Do your wife and your baby a LIFE SAVING favor and get someone who knows how to use a FREAKING AMBU-BAG.
