Best. Doula. Ever. I hired Danielle to be my doula when I was pregnant with my second child. My first birth ended in a c-section and I was determined to have a better experience this time around. When I decided I wanted a VBAC, Danielle was my biggest cheerleader. She helped me find the right midwife and armed me with support tools to reach my goal. When I was overwhelmed with fear during my pregnancy that I wasn't strong enough or I was afraid that something would go terribly wrong, Danielle was there for me. She was reassuring and calming. Her confidence in me gave me confidence in myself. Danielle checked in on me throughout my pregnancy. She walked me and my husband through what to expect and how to react to each stage of labor. By the time I reached full-term, I felt so ready to deliver because of her. When early labor started, it was different than I was expecting. Danielle came over as soon as I asked, even though it felt earlier than I was expecting to need help. Her presence was so reassuring and strong that I felt stronger just being next to her. My labor wasn't really progressing, partly because baby was in a funky position. She helped me reposition baby and then refocused my mental energy. After that, labor really kicked in! I honestly believe that had she not been there, my labor could have lasted days. After baby was born, she stayed with us until I was tucked in and ready to sleep. She checked in on me often. And then she sent us the most beautiful photos of our labor and birth! I hardly even noticed her taking photos, so I was shocked to see so many. I am so grateful to Danielle for capturing these special moments! If we try for a third baby, I will hire Danielle again. And again. And again. I will also tell every pregnant lady I know to do the same.

I think it's important to first know before reading this review is I have had two natural child births within 14 months of each other. The first was without a doula and the most recent was with Danielle as our doula. My husband was first not on board with getting a doula, as he did not understand the point of having one when we have midwives, doctors and nurses at the hospital. Within 5 minutes into labor, my husband understood and said he would never go back! Throughout pregnancy, Danielle was available to answer all my tiny to big questions on what was happening with my body. Even though I had just gone through a pregnancy, you forget a ton and every pregnancy is so different. She was so knowledgeable and quick to respond that I never felt uncertain through all the changes. When I went into labor, Danielle showed up right away and got things at the hospital moving. She got the room set up, the oils flowing, and made sure I was comfortable and calm. She kept me motivated through labor, got me moving, in different positions, tried multiple methods to keep contractions going, and when I thought I couldn't go any more, she reminded me why I wanted the birth I had chosen. She made sure my husband was involved the whole time and really gave him the confidence to coach me through the birth. She knew when she needed to step in and when she needed to step back. Without Danielle, my daughters birth would have been a completely different experience, I started panicking right before transition and Danielle got me to get it together and focus on the next contraction. She really helped me in the time where I thought I couldn't do it anymore. After birth she got our photos and timeline to us within a day! She came over to our house to deliver our encapsulated placenta and even helped with breastfeeding and random questions we had ! I cannot tell you how much she means to us, and hope this helps someone make the decision to go with her as you will not regret it at all. This is what Danielle was meant to do in life and she is darn good at it! Just ask my husband who wasn't a believer and now is telling all his friends they have to get her for their next babies!

Kelly is amazing! My birth experience would not have been the same without her. Having a baby during the Covid epidemic I was somewhat unsure how a doula service would benefit me. Even with the hospital restrictions Kelly far exceeded my expectations. From the detailed education provided prior to labor and the countless questions I sent her, Kelly always made me feel reassured and encouraged. When my pre- labor started Kelly coached me over the phone and checked in frequently. As things advanced she came to my house and provided support for my husband and I. When it came time to go to the hospital Kelly remained on FaceTime the entire time. I was unaware Kelly was not physical present, but rather amazed at her ability to collaborate and work so well with the hospital staff virtually. My beautiful baby was born at 1:54 am and Kelly remained on FaceTime till 3 Am. I'm so thankful to have Kelly apart of my experience

Working with Danielle as our doula was the best choice we made when it came to the birth of our second son! We definitely couldn't have had the wonderful birth experience we did without her!! I was excited for Danielle to be our doula from the beginning. She helped in lots of ways during my early pregnancy, sharing recommendations, guidance and support. Then I got some curveballs in late pregnancy...and I was even MORE grateful for Danielle! I found out I needed to be induced at 37 weeks, and I was initially so discouraged, thinking my birth preferences were out the window. I called Danielle, literally in tears, and she encouraged me, reminded me we'd still have options, and gave me some tangible action steps to start preparing. When we got to the hospital, my husband and I were in regular communications with Danielle, and she helped us through several decisions. Then when I was laboring and needed support, Danielle came right away. Once Danielle arrived, it was only 4.5 hours until we met our baby boy! Danielle helped things move along positively, helping me through lots of different labor positions and offering motivation and support the whole time. Despite being induced, I delivered without pain meds and had the birth I had dreamed of! We can't thank Danielle enough!!!

Kelly was such a blessing with our fist birth! She help to guide me and my husband through every single step of the way. Kelly did not leave my side and through the most intense part of my labor she helped me find my strength and navigate me though all options. We can not express our gratitude enough and hope to use Kelly again one day!

This is a picture Kelly took during birth of my husband comforting me.

Wow! What can I really say? I truly feel that my birth experience was so smooth and positive because we had Kelly with us. My husband was having a hard time watching me go through contractions and Kelly was right there through it all. Not only was Kelly a seasoned, pro Doula and advocate during birth, she also provided pre-and post care like a total champion. The encapsulated placenta, the birth timeline, the birth photos - everything is more than we ever would've expected. Sunshine Doula services is 100% the way to go. We hope to have more babies and we wish to have Kelly there along those journeys as well.

We are so glad we decided on a doula for our first birthing experience. My husband was relieved to have someone else in the room with us to act as a mediator and guide. Hayley was helpful, knowledgeable, and faithful all throughout the long hours and unexpected twists and turns. She offered genuine encouragement and support during and after delivery - there's just something intimate and bonding about sharing your personal birthing experience with someone else. I'm also SO happy for the candid photos she captured of my husband, me, our son, the staff, and the labor process in general, too!

She is clearly knowledgeable and experienced, and I am thankful for the role she played in my birth. During transition and pushing, she offered guidance and support that was helpful in those intense final hours. I do believe she understands birth well and brings expertise to the room. That said, there were a few things that did not sit right with me. At multiple points during contractions, when I looked up, she was visibly on Facebook and Instagram. I understand that long labors can involve downtime, but she was only physically present at the hospital for a few hours during transition and pushing. Given the relatively short window of in person support, it felt disappointing and inappropriate that she was on social media during that time. It made me feel like she was not fully present in such a vulnerable moment. There were also moments where her reactions felt disproportionate, such as when the toilet water unexpectedly splashed up. Her response heightened the situation rather than helping me feel grounded and calm. In addition, I found the overall value of the package to be underwhelming compared to other doulas I interviewed. Many offered formal childbirth classes (which were extra through MM) and ongoing support groups as part of their services, whereas Modern Mama primarily offered monthly mini classes on rotating topics, which did not always feel directly relevant or comprehensive. For the investment, I had expected more structured education and support. Though I was appreciative of the nice photos that were included. I am grateful for her knowledge and the role she played in helping bring my baby into the world, but I do wish the level of presence, professionalism, and overall value had been stronger throughout the experience. I likely won't hire Modern Mama again although I don't have experience with the other doulas.

As first time parents, we found that we didn't have a true understanding of what was best to do once we brought our little guy home from the hospital. Sure - we had read a lot and had additional support to help us get ready, but with Modern Mama, we found a professional who specializes in exactly what we needed - "what does good look like?" / "what should we be doing?" / "what are we doing right/ wrong?" From the moment that Kristin walked into our door, we were met with a calm and welcoming presence that shared recommendations for getting to sleep, eat, and dressed appropriately. She shared with us what most parents do and what is truly a choice for us. What's more, she was an incredible support for my wife who was breastfeeding for the first time, encouraging her and helping her to establish appropriate techniques and set her up with pumping appropriately, which would have taken us weeks without the support. Lastly, Kristin also followed up with us multiple times after the nights that she had stayed, seeing how we were doing and following up with great resources tied to the questions that we had + other professionals that could help with some of the areas that we were looking to develop. We'd highly recommend the support from Modern Mama and specifically Kristin as a doula for and first time parents - I truly believe they were a primary reason for us to start off on the right foot at home. (For reference, we had the 3 night package for the first couple of nights at home)

We had Jen and Amy as our overnight doulas, and they were absolutely wonderful. On each of their first nights, they checked in on how I was doing, making sure I felt supported as a first-time mom. They prioritized my own mental well-being just as much as our baby's physical well-being. They really listened to any concerns I had and just made us feel at ease. They even went the extra mile with chores, like happily washing bottles and doing baby laundry. Amy, being a lactation specialist, was a pro at giving me breastfeeding tips. Jen was extremely helpful with that as well. Both had a very soothing and calm presence that made nighttime routines peaceful. They were easy guests to have in our home. But truly, both of them gave our daughter their undivided attention each night, and what they have is really a gift. We're so grateful for their support.

Our baby was born during one of the worst snowstorms in years and she made sure she was prepared and there to support us (even if it meant getting snowed in at the hospital). Without her care and experience we would've had a very different birth that likely would've ended in an emergency c-section. I had a lot of anxiety about giving birth but Jenn helped put me at ease and explained things very well. She is warm and has an evidence based approach to her work. She also looked out for my partner which I really appreciated, ensuring he ate and rested. Afterwards we also used Jenn's overnight doula services to care for our infant and she was just as fantastic with him. Not only did we get a good night's rest when she was here (priceless), we also felt so supported with learning about newborn care and dealing with all of the emotional aspects of becoming parents. Our journey would've been different without her and we will forever be grateful that we had her support.

When I found out I was pregnant with our second, I knew I wanted to do things differently, and Jessica was absolutely the answer. She was able to ensure that my husband and I were fully prepared, educated, and empowered. COVID regulations hit DAYS before I went into labor, and she pivoted on a dime. She educated me, helped me with hypnobirthing techniques, and supported me (and my hubby) during my pregnancy and leading up to labor. Because of covid I knew she wouldn't be allowed in the hospital but she had already given me so much - including helping me decide to change prenatal care and birthing hospital which I'm SO GLAD I did. I was able to find a hospital with midwives that was on board with my birth plan! The plan was that she would come to my house and labor with me as long as possible before going to the hospital and she would teach my husband how to support me as well. That's exactly what happened when I went Into labor. She basically did all the work with me at home, helping me manage pain and helping me trust that I could have the unmedicated labor I wanted (even when I doubted myself). Thanks to her I did it! By the time I got to the hospital I was 9 cm dilated! She had helped me do all the work at home, my baby was born 20 minutes after getting to the hospital they didn't have time for any intervention, and I'm so glad everything went according to my birth plan. But it's only because I had Jessica through it all!

So, about 10 weeks before I was due I started the search for another doula and came across both Lora, and Chelsea, individually. I contacted them and they let me know they had recently teamed up and were available. We had a zoom call with them and my husband and I decided to book them for our August birth. Chelsea & Lora came for a home visit in June, so we could meet them and discuss initial ideas about my labor/birth/etc. They both brought their individual strengths and so much knowledge. They then came back a few weeks before I was due to discuss plans for when i went into labor, comfort measures, etc. They were both there any other time my husband and I had a question throughout the whole process as well. I had a long, long (44 hour) labor and we (mainly my husband) were in contact with Chelsea/Lora the entire time. About 22 hours in, once the pain had gotten pretty bad, Lora came to our house at 8pm. She quietly supported us and helped get through the contractions. At midnight, Chelsea swapped in so Lora could get some rest. Chelsea encouraged me to keep moving and try different things to help progress labor. When we thought it was time to go to the birth center, Chelsea came with us. When I finally ended up being admitted, Lora was the doula who ultimately joined us at the birth center- and spent over 12 hours there with us. I had mentioned during one of our previous meetings that I would love it if the doula who was present could snap some pictures during the day of labor/birth- I wasn't looking for anything too fancy or professional but just wanted some iphone pics. Lora went above and beyond, using her own camera to take lots of pictures and a video of the birth- which we haven't seen yet but are so excited for! Both Lora & Chelsea truly went above and beyond, and are a perfect complementary team. They came for a 2 week postpartum visit and it felt like having friends over to meet the baby- we cannot recommend them and their services enough & will definitely be using them for baby 2!
