I wanted someone who could help me understand my options, prepare for labor, and provide support beyond what I expected from my medical team. Hiring a doula gave me the reassurance that I wouldn't have to navigate the experience alone. Knowing Michelle would be there to guide, educate, and encourage me made me feel much more confident and prepared going into my first birth. After that, having a doula, for me, was a non-negotiable. Michelle has been by my side for the births of all three of my children, and I can't imaging a birth without her. Each experience was so unique and different, but her support, knowledge, and encouragement were invaluable every single time. I wanted unmedicated births, and Michelle gave me the confidence, preparation, and tools I needed to achieve that goal. During labor, she knew exactly how to support me physically and emotionally, helping me stay focused and calm through some of the most challenging moments. When I doubted myself, she reminded me of my strength and helped me trust my body. What sets Michelle apart is that she doesn't just show up on the day of your birth. She invests in her clients, provides evidence-based information, answers questions, and helps you feel empowered to make decisions that are right for you and your family. Her presence brought a sense of peace and confidence that benefited not only me, but also my husband. She helped my husband understand my needs and how to be a source of strength. She guided him through ways to encourage and comfort me during labor, which allowed us to work together as a team and made the experience even more positive. Because of Michelle's support, I look back on all three of my birth experiences with gratitude and pride. If you're considering hiring a doula, I wholeheartedly recommend the Modern Momma team; they are compassionate, knowledgeable, professional, and truly passionate about helping mothers have positive and empowering birth experiences.

When my wife's water broke, we let the doula know and headed to the hospital. She was also told my wife was contracting. Despite knowing all of this, the doula never came and never once called to check in. We went through the birth of our son without the support we had paid for and counted on. What happened afterward was just as disappointing. Rather than taking responsibility, we were told it was our fault for not explicitly instructing her to come -- even though she knew we were at the hospital and in labor. Instead of accountability we were blamed for not "telling her to come" -- as if a laboring mother at the hospital isn't signal enough. When we asked to speak with the owner, no one had the courtesy to call us directly.

We hired Ashley for the birth of my second child, when I was attempting an unmedicated VBAC after a horrendous experience with my first birth. I knew I wanted labor support for this birth, but honestly hiring a doula was a little "crunchy" and outside of our realm of comfort. From the first meeting with Ashley I could tell that I was completely wrong! Ashley was so real and down to earth, and made us both feel completely at ease and prepared for our TOLAC and hopeful VBAC. During actual labor, Ashley came when I told her I needed her, and helped me to do relax through contractions and do some exercise to try to turn my posterior baby. We labored at home with her help for as long as possible, and when I felt "pushy" she got us to the hospital and into a room ready to have a baby! Her coaching through early labor, transition, and especially pushing was instrumental to my successful VBAC. She was amazing at addressing my fears during labor and made sure I was informed and felt completely in control the whole time, as well as kept my husband calm and helped him to be involved with helping me. After the experience we had, I would 100% recommend Ashley to everyone I know, and would have her by my side for all future births.  Thank you so much for our healing experience Ashley!!

So, about 10 weeks before I was due I started the search for another doula and came across both Lora, and Chelsea, individually. I contacted them and they let me know they had recently teamed up and were available. We had a zoom call with them and my husband and I decided to book them for our August birth. Chelsea & Lora came for a home visit in June, so we could meet them and discuss initial ideas about my labor/birth/etc. They both brought their individual strengths and so much knowledge. They then came back a few weeks before I was due to discuss plans for when i went into labor, comfort measures, etc. They were both there any other time my husband and I had a question throughout the whole process as well. I had a long, long (44 hour) labor and we (mainly my husband) were in contact with Chelsea/Lora the entire time. About 22 hours in, once the pain had gotten pretty bad, Lora came to our house at 8pm. She quietly supported us and helped get through the contractions. At midnight, Chelsea swapped in so Lora could get some rest. Chelsea encouraged me to keep moving and try different things to help progress labor. When we thought it was time to go to the birth center, Chelsea came with us. When I finally ended up being admitted, Lora was the doula who ultimately joined us at the birth center- and spent over 12 hours there with us. I had mentioned during one of our previous meetings that I would love it if the doula who was present could snap some pictures during the day of labor/birth- I wasn't looking for anything too fancy or professional but just wanted some iphone pics. Lora went above and beyond, using her own camera to take lots of pictures and a video of the birth- which we haven't seen yet but are so excited for! Both Lora & Chelsea truly went above and beyond, and are a perfect complementary team. They came for a 2 week postpartum visit and it felt like having friends over to meet the baby- we cannot recommend them and their services enough & will definitely be using them for baby 2!

I hired Kelly again after my first successful birth of my daughter in 2024. Since this time, I hired Kelly when I found out I was pregnant in May 2025. Unfortunately, in August we lost our little boy at 12 weeks gestation. I had delivered baby boy at home but Kelly was one of the first people I told, I remember her crying with me over the phone, this gave such comfort in that moment. She was just a text away to offer any assistance. I didn't ask her to be there, I was in shock and didn't know how to handle this experience at the time, I was just so focused on delivering at home and really didn't know what to expect, even though Kelly did educate me. She checked in on me through those hours and following days. She offered resources of miscarriage support and healing. In January we got pregnant again, Kelly was one of the first people I told. I wanted her to doula for us but was nervous to commit until after 14 week visit. She totally understood and gave me time to process. Everything had gone so smooth with baby's growth and development. I booked Kelly right after that 14 week visit, my husband and I were so excited to have her as our doula again. We saw our amazing OB, Dr. Hervey at my 18 week appointment and we were shocked and heartbroken again to find out we lost our baby girl. This time it was decided to deliver the baby at the hospital for safety reasons. I was extremely nervous especially as I was still healing from delivering my baby boy at home just 8 months prior. Kelly again was devastated, I asked her if there were any miscarriage doulas who could support us during this time. Without hesitation Kelly said she would be there for us in any capacity. I can't tell you how relieved my husband and I felt knowing Kelly would be there with us. I was induced at 9 am, Kelly checked in regularly throughout the day. By evening labor started slightly, felt like it was going to be awhile for this process to begin. Kelly showed up to the hospital and I instantly broke down with relief when I saw her. Once she arrived I could feel my body say, you're safe to have this baby now. She supported me through the tough mental moments of birthing our angel child. She cried with us, helped me stay hydrated and focused, got me into more comfortable positions and per my request, she took photos of our journey in that hospital room (actually the same hospital room we birthed my living child almost exactly 2 years prior) . Even though an extremely painful experience, Kelly met us with grace, love, and comfort and made my child's birth healing for us. A miscarriage birth is already hard and traumatic, let alone going through back to back losses. Kelly showed up in the most profound healing way. I didn't feel alone or scared. I always joke but I'm actually serious, Kelly is my pain control. Forget the epidurals or pain meds when Kelly is with you. We will get through it, we always do. Kelly you truly are a gift from God, supporting mommas and families through the beauty of child birth. You supported my family through the loss of our angel baby and gave her the dignified birth she deserved and you gave us the healing we didn't know we needed. The photos you took help us heal and remember that even through the darkness there is light, there is healing, and there is support. We didn't have to do this alone. Kelly Sunshine doula services are not just for live births, she supports families through all kinds of births, especially miscarriage loss. Don't go through it alone if you don't have to, I will never regret giving my two children a birth experience and grateful Kelly was the one who supported us through. We are forever blessed and grateful for your care.

Wow. What an amazing home birth experience. First of all,…read morelet me express my gratitude to all the midwives at Aurora. They are all kind, highly experienced, knowledgeable, and relatable. It's hard to come across a practice where ALL the providers are top notch. Usually there's one great provider with the others being mediocre at best. That's not the case here! Regardless of who ends up being the midwife when you give birth, you won't be disappointed! Secondly, I am extremely thankful for their ability to provide modern care with a holistic approach. The reason I chose Aurora is because they are truly up-to-date on natural approaches to pregnancy management and what is considered safe vs not. Most modern providers don't give you advice on nutrition, natural pain management (because that doesn't exist), nor do they make sure you are ok mentally. From my previous pregnancy, where I received care from an OB at another practice, I was treated as if pregnancy was a medical condition and the provider never asked for consent. They used scare tactics to talk me into getting things and doing things that I would never normally agree to. With Aurora, they take pride in asking consent for every single action before doing so. I had never experienced care where they actually consider the individual's values and opinions and not just their educated beliefs. Lastly, the whole experience of the birth was amazing and enlightening. During my first pregnancy, many things went haywire and it felt very much like a medical procedure. With Aurora, my birth at home was very peaceful and hands off. The midwives assured me every step along the way to trust my body and to do what it was asking me to do. By trusting them and listening to my body's intuition, I was able to have the best, quickest birth at home with my husband and toddler! Overall, I would give them 10/10 and recommend Aurora Midwifery to any momma who is currently pregnant. Although it's most likely my last pregnancy, I would choose Aurora time and time again for pregnancy care.

Right off the bat on our Zoom call, Stephanie exuded warmth, expertise, confidence, and intelligence. I got good feelings about her positive, flexible personality, gentle sense of humor, and knowledge of birth practices. She was also super organized and professional, and her communication was prompt and helpful whenever I had questions. I had two in-home preparatory sessions with Stephanie to create a birth preferences document (for which she provided a really useful template), and she walked me through all kinds of eventualities around birth and newborn care. I even had been given multiple breast pumps from my local buy-nothing group and Stephanie helped demystify them for me! My birth turned out to be absolutely wild--it was NOTHING like what I'd expected based on my childbirth education beforehand. Whereas I had mostly heard of first-time birth parents enduring many hours of labor, mine lasted all of three (very intense) hours and we barely made it to the hospital in time--so naturally, through no fault of her own, Stephanie was not able to attend the birth. This is a highly unusual occurrence. However, she was available to me during labor by phone and text, and arrived at the hospital as soon as possible to help guide us through the post-birth process. She also took precious photos of us with our newborn and helped make sure we were situated before heading home. Our postpartum visit was also a wonderful boost, and she got to meet our baby at several weeks old. I would absolutely recommend Stephanie to any parent looking for a caring, knowledgeable, flexible advocate throughout their birth journey.
