I researched midwives and read home birth stories. After meeting our midwives at Tree of Life, we instantly knew this was our team and I knew I wanted a home birth. Being a first time mom I was nervous because almost all of the home birth stories I read were second or third time moms; I didn't see too many first time home births. Being 36 I also got the "geriatric pregnancy" talk when I met with the OB. I really liked the fact that Tree of Life was a team of midwives. Morgann, Deidra, Giuliana, and Micha were such an incredible team. Each brought their own different knowledge and perspectives to our meetings. Every visit was an hour long and both my husband and I would leave feeling heard and well taken care of. We never felt rushed, and they made sure we knew they were always there for any questions we had. The birth itself was incredible. Deidra and Morgann were the two midwives who attended. They both gave my husband and I unwavering support while also giving us space when needed. I had a small complication during birth, but Morgann did an amazing job of explaining the situation and laying out all the possibilities and options we had. I felt confident making an informed decision that was best for me based on the information Morgann gave me. I ended up having the home birth I'd been dreaming of. We couldn't have done it without them. The care after was exceptional; I swear postpartum would have been much harder without the tree of life team. They were there for any questions we had; and they constantly checked in on us. Saying bye after 6 weeks was probably one of the hardest things we've had to do. I can't recommend this team enough. From start to finish they are truly with you every step of the way. Their encouragement and knowledge is invaluable; and they truly support you making your own informed decisions. I have never felt more taken care of or held than I did in their care.

She is clearly knowledgeable and experienced, and I am thankful for the role she played in my birth. During transition and pushing, she offered guidance and support that was helpful in those intense final hours. I do believe she understands birth well and brings expertise to the room. That said, there were a few things that did not sit right with me. At multiple points during contractions, when I looked up, she was visibly on Facebook and Instagram. I understand that long labors can involve downtime, but she was only physically present at the hospital for a few hours during transition and pushing. Given the relatively short window of in person support, it felt disappointing and inappropriate that she was on social media during that time. It made me feel like she was not fully present in such a vulnerable moment. There were also moments where her reactions felt disproportionate, such as when the toilet water unexpectedly splashed up. Her response heightened the situation rather than helping me feel grounded and calm. In addition, I found the overall value of the package to be underwhelming compared to other doulas I interviewed. Many offered formal childbirth classes (which were extra through MM) and ongoing support groups as part of their services, whereas Modern Mama primarily offered monthly mini classes on rotating topics, which did not always feel directly relevant or comprehensive. For the investment, I had expected more structured education and support. Though I was appreciative of the nice photos that were included. I am grateful for her knowledge and the role she played in helping bring my baby into the world, but I do wish the level of presence, professionalism, and overall value had been stronger throughout the experience. I likely won't hire Modern Mama again although I don't have experience with the other doulas.

Amey patiently showed me multiple breastfeeding positions, including the cradle hold, football hold, and side-lying position, and taught me how to let my baby naturally latch without forcing him. Her guidance was gentle, encouraging, and easy to understand, which made all the difference. She also made a point to include my husband throughout the appointment, showing him ways he can help with positioning, support, and working together as a team to make our breastfeeding journey successful. I will say, I was taken aback by some things said to me at Blossom at first. I am a very private person, and I took some of their advice to be a bit intrusive. But I came to realize it was because I was so unaccustomed to medical professionals genuinely caring about you as a person. The ladies at Blossom really do care about you and your baby. They don't see you as just a number or another patient. I actually ended up transferring to the hospital in an ambulance during labor due to complications. Even though my birth experience was not what I intended it to be, I cannot emphasize enough how thankful I am for Erin and Chyna. My son and I had the best possible outcome, and I attribute that in part to the skill, experience, and good judgement of the midwives at Blossom. My son and I struggled to breastfeed after birth and even though I was in the hospital, they made sure I got breastfeeding support from the Milk Spot and as a result of this help, my son is still breastfeeding at a year old. I also sought help from them for postpartum depression about 9 months postpartum. Mary was able to help me with progesterone as a treatment and it basically cured my depression. I am eternally grateful to these ladies and all of the team over at the Milk Spot and Causey Chiropractic. If I were not moving states I would absolutely use them for future pregnancies and I will always recommend them to family and friends. Thank you!

I cannot express how disappointed and appalled I am by the care I received from this practice…read moreduring my pregnancy. At approximately 27 weeks pregnant, I developed an obvious urinary tract infection. Having experienced UTIs before, I recognized the symptoms immediately and specifically requested antibiotics. During my initial conversation with the practice, I was told they could prescribe antibiotics if absolutely necessary, but strongly advised me to wait for urine culture results instead. Trusting their medical judgment, I agreed. Unfortunately, my initial laboratory test was canceled. Over the next two days, I repeatedly called the office, expressing concern about the canceled test, my untreated infection, and the need for antibiotics. Nobody returned my calls until approximately TWO AND A HALF DAYS later. By that point, I had developed back pain and was already at urgent care seeking treatment because my condition had worsened. My infection progressed into severe pyelonephritis (a kidney infection), requiring approximately 2.5 days of hospitalization and multiple IV antibiotics. I experienced a fever of 102°F, a heart rate around 125, and dangerously low blood pressure of 87/53. All while pregnant. What makes this particularly infuriating is that I recognized the infection early, immediately requested treatment, followed their medical advice, and repeatedly advocated for myself and my unborn daughter. Yet I ultimately ended up hospitalized with a serious infection. And somehow, the experience got worse. While hospitalized, one of the physicians from the practice came to see me and proceeded to berate me. At a time when I was severely ill, vulnerable, and frightened for my baby, I was met with shockingly poor bedside manner and a complete lack of compassion. Then, rather than supporting me through the remainder of my pregnancy, the practice dismissed me as a patient, claiming I was now "high risk." I found this particularly outrageous considering I was otherwise extremely healthy, with only a history of a couple of bladder infections. Other healthcare providers I subsequently saw did not classify me as high risk and expressed surprise that I had been dismissed under these circumstances. I understand that medicine requires clinical judgment and that not every complication is preventable. However, failing to return repeated calls from a symptomatic pregnant patient for 2.5 days, particularly after her laboratory test was canceled, is unacceptable to me. Thankfully, the rest of my pregnancy was incredibly healthy, and I went on to have a beautiful, uncomplicated vaginal delivery without interventions. Today, I have an incredibly healthy, thriving baby girl, and I am especially grateful to Dr. Hervey, who provided the compassionate, attentive care I had deserved all along. My experience with this practice left me feeling ignored when I requested help, disrespected when I became seriously ill, and abandoned when I needed continued prenatal care. I would absolutely not recommend this practice. I am incredibly thankful that my pregnancy ultimately had such a wonderful outcome, but no pregnant woman should have to experience what I did to get there.
