We hired Ashley for the birth of my second child, when I was attempting an unmedicated VBAC after a horrendous experience with my first birth. I knew I wanted labor support for this birth, but honestly hiring a doula was a little "crunchy" and outside of our realm of comfort. From the first meeting with Ashley I could tell that I was completely wrong! Ashley was so real and down to earth, and made us both feel completely at ease and prepared for our TOLAC and hopeful VBAC. During actual labor, Ashley came when I told her I needed her, and helped me to do relax through contractions and do some exercise to try to turn my posterior baby. We labored at home with her help for as long as possible, and when I felt "pushy" she got us to the hospital and into a room ready to have a baby! Her coaching through early labor, transition, and especially pushing was instrumental to my successful VBAC. She was amazing at addressing my fears during labor and made sure I was informed and felt completely in control the whole time, as well as kept my husband calm and helped him to be involved with helping me. After the experience we had, I would 100% recommend Ashley to everyone I know, and would have her by my side for all future births.  Thank you so much for our healing experience Ashley!!

She was patient, kind, and willing to answer every question we had. (Which trust me was a ton). She is so incredibly comfortable to be around and prepared us for the birth of our son. She assisted in writing our birth plan, offered birth photography, and placenta encapsulation. Which I highly recommend! As a first time mom placenta encapsulation saved my life. Not only is Rebecca easy to be around she truly cares. Our birth by no means followed our birth plan. But Rebecca made it possible, she was there to get us through labor and got us trough needing a c-section as well. Highly, highly recommend setting up an interview with Rebecca. You will not be disappointed! She was such a blessing during the birth of our son.

My labor was long and intense, many hours of unmedicated labor and when we faced a sudden pivot to a C-section due to our baby's position, Amy was our anchor. She walked us through every single step, making sure I still felt informed and in control during a situation where control felt lost. What I appreciate most was her deep empathy, she sat with me and gave me the space to grieve the change in my birth plan and be scared. She didn't rush me past those feelings. When my husband wasn't allowed in the prep room, Amy was right there by my side. In the scariest moments, she held my hand, answered every question, and kept me grounded. Her calm energy is unmatched, and at times it honestly felt like she could read my mind. That wasn't just luck. This was because of how thoroughly she prepared with us beforehand. She took the time to truly learn how I process pain and what I need in high-pressure situations. She was just as important for my husband as she was for me, offering him constant reassurance. When our baby was born, he was able to leave my side to follow our baby with complete ease, knowing I wasn't alone and that Amy was taking care of me. Amy is extraordinary at what she does. If you are looking for a doula who is fiercely supportive, deeply prepared, and intuitive, hire Amy immediately.

Julie or a back up doula did not come to the hospital at all during my labor or delivery. * I was in labor for 37 hours. * We informed Julie when my water broke and continued to provide multiple updates via text and phone call on my labor progress including notification when I was in active labor. * We did not receive the postpartum support outlined in the contract, including meals and initial breastfeeding support. The whole situation has caused me a lot of stress and I believe it has made my post-partum harder. I want to start off by saying that I received lovely midwifery care from Erin, Kassie, and Chynna…read more If I still lived in AZ I would return there for future prenatal care. That being said, there are a few things I've reflected on from my time at Blossom and I have recalled a couple experiences that left me feeling uncertain and hurt. I had desired to reduce ultrasound exposure to my baby as much as possible, so I had agreed to the 20wk anatomy scan and a position check around 30wks. I requested that the fetoscope be used rather than Doppler and that no other unnecessary ultrasounds be done. I met HEAVY resistance to this request from each midwife, but particularly from Kassie who pushed my boundaries in an unprofessional way and she came off very judgmental. Rather than explaining risks AND benefits, I felt ostracized, especially when I said "is this okay" and Kassie said "well, no", but with NO ability to explain ultrasound risks to me in an articulate or evidence-based way. I truly am sharing this experience to help Blossom consider a different way to approach something like this if it arises in the future. I ended up having a hospital birth with Kassie and she truly was an amazing midwife, so supportive and a great advocate. One other issue was that after my birth my placenta was sent to pathology because of some concerns about it. Chynna told me about this in my postpartum checkup, but I was never given the report to look over for myself, and she had said that Dr. Nichelle would reach out to me via phone call to review it which didn't happen. Dr. Nichelle was also incredible during my birth and I'm thankful for her care. Again, my perinatal care from Blossom overall was excellent and I wish I had been proactive to address these issues with the midwives in person, but I also feel that it is good to share my experiences for others to know what care is like at Blossom. I do truly believe that each of these midwives care about you and your baby's safety and desire for you to have the birth you want! There is certainly more freedom in your care here than at a hospital! Thank you to my midwives and to Blossom for my experience. I look back on it fondly.
