Family run Korean style Japanese restaurant in liberty village There's a lot of room for improvements for Injapan around service and food quality. I found the food to lack flavour in almost all the dishes. I was especially disappointed with the unagi bento box - flavourless and seems like they used unagi pieces intended for unagi sushi rather than a whole piece. There was also only one waitress servicing the whole restaurant. I quite like InJapan. The prices here are reasonable. Best of all, it is close to my office. Definitely a great place to grab a quick lunch. There are a few restaurants that surrounds InJapan. But most of the time, I prefer grabbng lunch here. I suggest ordering in advance. If you do walk-in to go, it does take them 10 mins to 15 mins to prepare the food. I came here with a colleague and grabbed the Unagi combo. They do have a daily special combo. The price after tax came to $16. It came with miso soup, salad, california roll, tempura, a gyoza and of course unagi. The food was very tasty. Other than Japanese food, they do offer Korean dishes here too. Came here on a Friday evening. Traffic was high with only one server so service was a bit slow. The food was bland. Sushi rice not seasoned. I would think they would serve unagi over rice but it was over bean sprouts. Also expected the unagi to be served in one large piece instead of sliced like it was for a nigiri. Overall I think food needs to be seasoned more. Hot sake needs to be served hot and not room temperature. The tofu teriyaki was okay, batter was too thick and again not seasoned. This restaurant is more casual, they have a patio, and their menu is a mix of Japanese and some Korean dishes. We ordered the L.A galbi, and chirashi sushi which is like a deconstructed roll. The galbi was really good, and the chirashi was good but not spectacular. We topped off our dinner with some green tea ice cream which I think was made in-house. This use to be one of my favourite sushi places but lately I've noticed that the quality of the food has gone downhill while the prices have increased. I'm peeved at the fact that you use to be able to get a bento box and choose between a California roll or spicy crab roll and now it come with only the California roll and if want to upgrade to the spicy crab roll its an additional $2. $2 additional for a roll that costs 50 cents more?? How does this make sense? It doesn't especially since it use to be an option on the bento box. I'm probably going to look for another place for my sushi cravings. read more

This spot is located in the trendy neighborhood of liberty village. I ended up here as a last minute thing. It seems more like a takeout kind of place as they were surprised when we asked to be seated. Anyway the place was empty on Saturday evening (though the steady take out orders kept em busy) The menu was quite long and even had some Korean dishes. I wanted to try both cooked and sushi items so went with a Ebi Tempura and rainbow roll. Dinning partners went for Bento Boxes (one with chicken teriyaki and other with vegetarian version of Agadashi Tofu as protein) We were served tea immediately. I ordered a Sapparo for good measures :) My food arrived first and didn't look anything special. I had to wait a bit till everyone got their food. The tempura was dry and the batter was not up to par . This resulted in a much thicker batter than desired and I felt bloated after a few pieces. The rainbow roll was just your run of the mill stuff with dried rice and fish. I would say its not much better than any food court iteration. I also tried the agadashi tofu and it was a disaster. The thick batter overpowering the protein and the sauce just slathered over, just a gooey mess. I think one can do a lot better for the price we paid. read more

This place has probably the worst sushi (if you can call it sushi) I've ever tasted. And I've lived in Tokyo, so I'd know. I ordered 3 maki combo, yellow tail, scallop and spicy tuna. They were all disgusting. The rice was falling apart and was not properly cooked. The fish was warm. The scallops were Bay scallops, not Sea scallops, and there were very few of them in the roll. The spicy sauce on the tuna was disgusting. The tuna was chewy, rubbery and dark! You might have better luck with their 'staple' bento boxes, but avoid ordering off their usual lunch fare as they have no idea how to make proper sushi. read more

Prior to ordering a shrimp tempura as an appetizer, I also ordered a salmon bento box which also included vegetables & shrimps tempura s well. The waiter didn't inform me about this fact or I wound have ordered something else. I ate the appetiser then my bento box arrived few minutes after....I was not too happy about seeing the shrimp tempura I had earlier. I later asked the waiter who took my orders why she didn't mention to me about the shrimp tempura was included in the bento box. Her answer was that "she forgot". How can she forget since it is part of her job as a waiter? The other waiter I had in another occasion who always asked, "Do you want more (foods) ?" whenever she approached me, I feel being pressured in ordering MORE foods and I feel uncomfortable eating there. Other time I was extremely disappointed about having the unagi bento box where they served unagi pieces over bean sprout (a bad combination) instead of sushi rice. They mainly cater to the Liberty Village lunch crowd it seems, so best time to beat the rush is either 11:30am, or after 2pm. Every single time I get sushi here it is FRESH. Always. I can't say that about too many places - so if you're in Liberty Village, this is the place to go. They cut their sushi rolls into smaller sizes (YESSSSSSS!) and I'm so thankful - because I want to be able to enjoy it without it falling and crumbling out of my mouth. They are always so great about any special requests I have, and every roll comes with a Miso Soup - how much better can it get? Would definitely recommend. I always keep going back. Eek, I may get in trouble by my SO for writing this review as this is her go to spot on a weekly basis. I figured her patronage was more than enough reason to check this spot out and it's location is very convenient relative to Liberty Village (right at Atlantic and King W). On a positive note, the staff are friendly and attentive and my green tea never went cold, and given the small space they're never more than nod of the head away. Also, the Miso soup was very good. Aside from friendliness, convenience and Miso, the rolls stops here. I ordered a Sushi + Sashimi combination which came to about $24.99 all in. This came with 3- 6 piece rolls and 12 pieces of sashimi fish. The rolls were standard fare in terms of taste, however my issue with them was in the size. The rolls were no bigger in diameter than a dollar coin. I'd expect this sort of size from a typical AYCE joint, but when I'm paying per piece I expect a little more. Next up was the sashimi. Now for this, I had no issue with the size, as for the most part it was standard a la carte sized slices. I was happily eating the salmon and tuna when I came up on some of the other options. FROZEN. And I'm not talking about the adorable animated feature film... basically it was like biting into a frozen fish snow cone. The service was fast, so fast, SO FAST, something must have been done wrong. It was not the miso. It wasn't the green salad. I work in the W. Queen W. area, and there is a serious lack of places to grab sushi for lunch, so after some yelp searching I was excited to find this place, which was less than a 10 minute walk. I ordered take out, and it was ready when I got there. They said 15 - 20 minutes, and it was ready after only 10 (when I arrived)... not a fan of raw fish hanging out in a bag with hot soup for too long... so that was a bit annoying. It's about $15 for a lunch, which for sushi in Toronto is fairly high. The food itself was fine. But, I'll be looking for another place to satiate my sushi cravings. Great quality food at an affordable price point. We came here for a quick light dinner, bento box and a sashimi salad don. Both were excellent and generous portions. Also came with bonus appetizer and dessert which were greatly appreciated. The restaurant is pretty small so if you want decent seats, go there outside of lunch hour! When we went, we ended up on the lower level underneath a stair case with low ceiling. It was an odd spot to dine. Price wise, it's a little bit on the expensive side compared to other downtown Toronto sushi joints ($15-20/lunch). But they do make quite an effort to plate the food to make it look extra fancy. We live about 3 hours outside Toronto, but get into town every month or two. We stumbled on Injapan when we happened to be in the area and decided to get some sushi to bring home for dinner. The staff were great, packed the sushi with lots of ice and even loaded it into our car. Well that was about four trips ago and we go out of our way to get the take out for our dinner reward after the long drive home. The sushi is outstanding and the staff and chef great. I've eaten at most of the best sushi restaurants in Toronto over the years and this little "hole-in-the-wall" place is as good as any and better than most.
