This is the Osaka combo with extra Hamachi hand roll. The soup and salad that comes with it are no tin the photo

I like to support local restaurants as much as possible. Having said that I have also previously eaten at Kiyo a few times. It's a very small restaurant and you must just miss it if you drove by, which would be a pity because it offers consistently good quality Sushi. Tonight my Uber Eats from Kiyo was delicious, I ordered their Osaka combo and an extra Hamachi hand roll.

I feel like this place is a bit of a hidden gem. They have good quality sushi & sushi rolls, cute cutlery, and the prices are reasonable. Went here with a group of 8 people and we really enjoyed ourselves. My favourite roll of the night was hands down the Kiyo speciality roll! It's torched and has a nice Smokey flavour to it. Lots of umami flavours happening. All the other rolls we ordered were good too!

Excellent quality Japanese food. Very flavorful California Rolls. Try the Tokio Combo. The Maki Set was excellent. Very tasty salad dressing.

Small shop that spends ample time towards customer service and presentation. From major things such as art work on the wall to small things such as cutlery the presentation was perfect. Also, the food at Kiyo was amazing definately a must visit !

Chef's sashimi tasting plate

I have visited Kiyo for lunch on a Saturday. It is a small and cozy place with very tasteful minimalist interior design. The service was impeccable. I ordered chef's sashimi plate. My mind was blown! I had yellow tail, squid, crab, and Scottish salmon. They were all very tender and came with flavorful garnish (like lemon zest on Scottish Salmon, green onion on yellowtail). I also tried hamachi maki and unagi nigiri. They were all top notch. This is a very unassuming world-class sushi joint. Highly recommended.

Waited until 5 and still no sign of life wtf pissed ...

So pissed off. Walked here from casa Loma hoping to enjoy some sushi for my last night in Toronto but instead waited outside for an hour to a closed restaurant with no sign saying they're closed today. Waste of time. Fyi I came here from 4-5 when they said close from 3-4.

Seaweed salad with tako surf clam, kani, shrimpsprouts, cucumber and apple!

Amazing Japanese restaurant! Everything is fresh and delicious. Started with the REAL seaweed salad (not those artificial, dyed seaweed). Love the crispy apple and Tako&Surf Clam in the salad! My favorite Hamachi sashimi with jalapeno and a spicy sauce. Super tasty! Their sea urchin and scallop nigiri were very fresh, not pricy at all. Must try!!!! Sweet prawn sashimi comes with two pieces: the sashimi itself and the deep-fried head. Apparently one order is not enough, I certainly need more Torched nigiri combo was great! The tempura was AMAZING! The best I have ever had! (Even thier miso soup and soy sauce are tasty)

lovely 15 piece sashimi dinner combo!

Sashimi... I love! I just cannot get enough of yummy sashimi in this cute neighborhood Japanese restaurant! This is the first time I have visited this lovely new Japanese place and I could not believe the price and quality of the sashimi combo I got! What a great find. It seems as there are more people doing the take out than sit in, but it does not matter. Hope to go back very soon!

What a cute and tasty addition to the neighbourhood: I've been to Kiyo a few times and ordered takeout many. The food is always fresh and tasty, the sashimi well sliced, and miso soups always piping hot. The service is always friendly and quick, and I'm always glad to have an excuse to grab something from them on the way home.

I would typically expect to pay 3x the price for fish of this quality, making this easily the best sushi in Toronto at this price point.

It's my go-to spot to get my don fix - I love the wide variety of dons (rice bowls) that they offer with various fish and seafood combinations. There are also unique appetizers in the menu, such as Purple Yam Croquettes, Crab Crackers, Braised Bamboo Shoots with Shirasu (immature whitebait fish), and Takowasa (marinated raw octopus pieces, to be eaten with or wrapped in nori / seaweed). Although the dons are the main highlight of their menu (hence the restaurant name), they also offer traditional sushi, sashimi, sushi rolls and sets (similar to other Japanese sushi restaurants). Miso Aburi Scallops were very flavourful - nicely torched, giving the scallops a nice grill / char taste. They came with red and green seaweed, and a bit of fish roe. Large Premium Hana Don contained a good amount of fish and seafood, including a whole abalone, uni, shrimp in the shell, aburi salmon, ikura (salmon roe), salmon sashimi, tuna sashimi, yellowtail sashimi, other various fish sashimi, tamago (egg), and a few slices of cucumber on a generous bed of rice. I liked that the rice was a mix of white rice and some type of dark-coloured grains. Unatama Don came with a big piece of unagi and tamago (egg) that were both excellent. The sashimi were all fresh. Okonomiyaki was disappointing but it was sort of expected... for only $9, it was about 99% just flour pan-fried in a patty, without any substantial fillings (unlike real okonomiyaki, which usually contains protein / seafood, cabbage, eggs, and other ingredients). Location is super convenient near Bay & Dundas, ambiance is very casual, and service is quick.

What I really liked was that they had 3 options of warm water - Hot, Warm, and room temperature. Instinctively I knew this place cared about the clients digestive health. Though I'm sure if you asked for ice water, they would accommodate (my friend asked for no sauces in her maki roll). The fishes were plated very pretty and because it's sushi of course it tasted good. But I was surprised at the level of wasabi that was plated. Cleared up my sinuses for 30 seconds. The establishment is very clean and bright and a great place to head to if you're in a rush.

The space itself leans more modern and clean rather than the typical dark, cozy izakaya vibe, which I actually didn't mind. It felt comfortable, not too loud, and easy to settle into for a slow dinner. We ordered a mix of small plates to share, and everything came out looking nicely put together. The aburi-style salmon sushi was one of the highlights for me.. lightly seared, with a soft texture and just enough flavor on top without being overwhelming. The tuna tataki was also fresh and clean, simple but well done. Some of the fried dishes leaned a bit richer with the creamy sauces, but they were still enjoyable, especially if you're in the mood for something a little more indulgent. The beef fried rice was straightforward but satisfying, one of those dishes that's easy to keep going back to between everything else. Drinks were a nice touch too.. refreshing, nicely presented, and added to the overall experience. Overall, this feels like a solid spot for a casual night out with friends. It's not overly traditional, but it's easygoing, shareable, and comfortable.. the kind of place you'd come back to when you just want good food and a relaxed atmosphere.

The menu is set up to where you pick the entree and then what type of protein you want out of pork loin, chicken, fish, cheese, and sweet potato cheese. I settled on the sweet chili katsu. A piece of chicken arrived on a plate accompanied with rice and shredded cabbage. The chicken was breaded in a light panko like crumb and was half covered in the sweet chili sauce. I ate a couple of pieces and the crisp texture and flavor was wonderful. I had a bite of rice and when I got to the cabbage to my dismay I found a long piece of hair in it. I immediately lost my appetite and all I could think about was how great the two bites of chicken was. I gave up the plate and showed the staff what I found. They offered another plate a couple of times and after I declined a refund was issued. Katsuya. sucks for serving me one of the best pieces of breaded chicken in my life with hair in the food. I'm struggling to hold back the tears now as I write. I did get to try the parmesan fries which were ok. I also tasted the udon which is not one of their stronger dishes. This probably would have been five stars had it not been for the hair. I know this happens on the rare occasion but probably shouldn't if hair nets are worn. If you do try out this place, expect great katsuya.
