Drinking chocolate so good it has to be a healthy part of a complete snack, or something

I swung by for their Monroe St Festival special - half off drinking chocolate. I've had drinking chocolate at Red Elephant, and they have very different interpretations of it. I went with iced Mayan, which has the slightest hint of spice. It is very thick, closer to a milkshake than hot chocolate in consistency. Wonderful darker chocolate flavor (I like around 60% dark chocolate) with just the right amount of sweetness so that it feels like it's definitely healthy. They also have very pretty chocolates that would make a great gift.

Fantastic hand crafted gourmet chocolates from a small shop in Hilldale. Very creative flavor combinations and beautifully decorated and designed. Not cheap but worth it for this quality of chocolate. The staff is friendly, helpful and ready to make recommendations.

Lots to offer in the little shop.

This is such a nifty little chocolate shop. As you can tell from the other reviews, you'll find yourself just aching to come back after your initial visit. The shop is right in the middle of the Hilldale shopping center so it's in a great location and easy to get to. Inside there's a small sitting area which is a great touch. Apart from their stunning chocolates they also serve tea, hot chocolate and other choices. You can either pick out some chocolates to eat in the shop or buy different sized boxes to take home. If you choose to sit they serve the chocolates on a cool marble slab. It's a very awesome idea and makes it easy to cut up chocolate to share. It's very hard to describe the chocolates. Beautiful, gorgeous and delicious are a good start. The different chocolates are shaped and colored so remarkably well that you almost want to put them on display rather than popping them in your mouth. Once you do decide to chow down you'll find that their combinations are awesome. There are even flavors that you wouldn't even expect to be in a truffle. Peppercorn, blue cheese, bourbon, lavender, spices... My girlfriend and I decided to sit and try the more interesting ones but still buy a box of our favorites to take with us. Let me just give you a fair warning that this is more of a niche, premium shop. The prices aren't outrageous but they're up there. It's really more for a occasional treat, gift or special event purchase.

It's expensive, but good chocolate always is. We aren't fans of dark chocolate, but there was a good selection for all kinds of flavors.

Upon walking in you immediately know you're going to love the place. It's so cute and cozy. There is indoor and outdoor seating, cute decor, and chocolate galore. 2. I ordered the drinkable hot chocolate. It was good, although a little thick. I would have wanted a bit of almond milk to thin it a bit but I loved how rich it was. My daughter also got the kids chocolate frappe (I think that's what it was called) she loved it! 3. We received one free truffle each since it our first time there. We ordered the mint, vanilla bean, and turtle truffles. I also ordered the sea salt caramel truffle and my daughter got a gaming boy stick chocolate. So cool. 4. We also tried their cookies so tasty! 5. The lady working was sooooo sweet. Omg, she truly was. I'm so sorry I didn't get her name but she made us feel welcome (almost everyone in Wisconsin made us feel that way) and she was no different. What a pleasant experience as we headed back home. Highly recommend that you drop in when you are in the Madison area!

I probably visit this shop every couple of months and rarely leave empty handed! The thoughtfully curated and well organized candle department is usually my first stop. The kitchenware is an impressive range, everything you need to expand your skills, store your goodies, or spice up your presentation. Basically, you have to stop in-it's totally worth it! In…read morethe past, my experiences with the employees were also pretty darn charming, or at least satisfactorily neutral. The last time I was in the store, however, I was made to feel chastised and unwelcome, and while I recognize that this is a very personal response to an impersonal slap down, it left me feeling so stung that I doubt I'll return. What happened was this: I needed a new pair of reading glasses, and I'd gotten the most adorable Peepers from this store in the past. It was 5:50pm, and I saw on their door sign that they closed at 6pm. Great! I thought. I'll pop in and grab a pair. Immediately upon entering, one employee said, "You know we close in ten minutes." "Got it! I'll be quick!" I replied. I went to the rack of glasses, considered a few pairs, and checked the fit in the little mirror on the rack. In that little mirror, I could see the employee behind me, who was frowning and rolling her eyes in exasperation, mouthing to her fellow employees on the other side of the room that , "No, not yet, she's still here." Yikes, I thought, checking my watch. It was 5:55pm, so I chose a pair and went to the register. One last thing--I wanted to get an e-cloth, a product a different employee had recommended to me the last time I was there. I mentioned this to the employee as she grouchily said, "Will that be all?" She huffed, "Well, the e-cloths are in a different part of the store." She strode off, and I said, "Any one will do!" She said, "No, just come pick the one you want." She proceeded to lead me to a section of wash cloths and sink cleaning scrubby brushes? When I explained that no, I was looking for a microfiber cloth to clean the lenses of the glasses with, and that they used to be stocked at the register, she huffed again and said, "Well, they're not anymore, are they? Also, we're just about to close...?" I bought the glasses, walked out the door, and checked my watch. 5:59pm. But golly, those nine minutes I spent in their store, encroaching on what I assume was their rush to be done and escape their pesky customers, left a bad taste in my mouth that nine days later still hasn't left. Which is a bummer. As I said, I really liked that store. Problem is, the cutest merchandise in the world can't make up for poor customer service.

We had so much fun, and we could see that all of the staff were also having a good time. Nothing but positivity, and it transfers into each and every delicious dish! We absolutely loved the complimentary cheese puffs (Gougeres). It was the perfect start to a fantastic meal. I enjoyed a starter of beet, walnut and cheese tart, and my dining partner thought his French Onion soup was stellar. I chose Monkfish stew for my main dish. It was incredible....silky, savory broth with melt-in-your-mouth monkfish plus tender shrimp and asparagus. The bread served with the stew was so delicious to soak it all up. My dining partner thoroughly enjoyed his Bistro steak with king trumpet mushrooms. The mushrooms were so elevated and so delicious. We shared a side of charred carrots and thought very highly of them, too. We closed out our epic meal by sharing one slice of Gateau Basque cake. It was served with a side of a tart cherry compote, and together this dessert was perhaps THE BEST dessert outside of France. Incredible! Sitting at the bar, our server was bartender Nina W. She was entertaining and didn't mind all of our ongoing questions. She added a another level of true enjoyment to our experience. Just as we were finishing up our dining experience the orchestrating chef stopped over to introduce herself. Once Annemarie said her name, I knew she was one of the founders of Lallander and next-door Bloom Bake Shop, having been a customer ever since their first bakery in Middleton. I told Annemarie how impressed we both were with the food, and how all the staff seemed so happy. She said something like a restaurant is only successful with good people. We were ten minutes early and they had just opened - strangely they would not seat us though our seats at the kitchen bar were open. So we huddled on the bench five feet away from our seats. It was not a great start but that was soon forgotten given the rest of the evening was fun. When I went on-line to make a reservation the only seats available were at the kitchen bar - that turned out to be fortunate because it was highly entertaining. When we return we will book these seats again as a couple (if you are with a group it is not a good place to hold a conversation). The bartender/ our server Jackson was super friendly and did a great job answering all our questions as we quizzed him on the action in the kitchen which was right in front of us (it's a small tight space). We ordered a beer and a wine followed by a small cup of French onion soup which was very tasty and a serving of their pate which was also very good. It was good that we had these front row seats because for some reason the kitchen appeared to be running a bit slow so the wait for our mains was pretty long. We did notice that when the owner arrived she started to direct the kitchen staff and the pace picked up! I got the pork tenderloin which was very flavorful and done with a bit of pink so it was not dry. It was a large serving. My wife got the sea bass in a puff pastry which was beautifully presented. The sauce was essential otherwise the dish would have been a bit plain. She really liked it. We were too full for desserts but they looked tempting though they did give us some savory cookies from their Bloom Bakery which is next store. This is not an inexpensive place to dine but it was well worth it. We will be back!
