You walk in and you are greeted by a nice wooden ambiance, simple counter for orders, some tables to sit, and some shelves of various goods. Not much quantity but plenty of variety (given the small local population), and maple is of course well represented. My friend thoroughly enjoyed his sandwich, all made to order from a surprisingly wide variety. I had a spinach/feta pastry, raspberry muffin, and brownie - okay, not the healthiest, but I wanted to just grab quick food and nosh. * The pastry was surprisingly sweet, something I've never experienced before with spinach. Not big, but very reasonable price so you can always get two. * The muffin was huge and crumbly and full of fruit. There were some blue bits so it may have been mislabeled, but there was definitely copious raspberry. * The brownie? 5 stars automatically for any place that can make something THAT dark and deep in chocolate flavor, THAT rich in every bite. So much brownie for your buck, and the flavor is simply out of this world. If you're a chocolate lover, you love Wells Country Store. * The server was a bit quiet. Came forward if summoned, but not up front like service in most states. Very laid back, which is VermonTypical, so I went with it. * Shelf products not all priced, but my goodness, I selected a four-pack of maple porter and it rang up for $7.99. That's like half the price I expected. Overall impression: I would normally have waffled between 4 and 5 stars. It was close, but two deciding factors: location in such a wonderful town, in such a wonderful state, in such a quintessential manner; and that brownie. The brownie negates anything that seemed a little awkward here. Come here, eat dessert, and maybe eat and buy a plethora of other things while you're at it.

The lunch/dinner offerings include fried appetizers, quesadillas, pizza, soup, salad, burgers, sandwiches, comfort dinners, desserts (ice cream treats, pies, cakes) and a kids menu. The pricing here is fair. I stopped by Town Line Diner on a rainy evening for dinner. I sat myself up at the lunch counter and the server brought over a menu and recited the daily specials with prices. I actually ordered the Stuffed Chicken Special ($17.95 plus tax) which sounded pretty good. My entree plate was served in about 15 minutes. The portion of food was very generous with a huge tender stuffed chicken breast with bread dressing and smothered with cream of spinach on the outside, served with chunky mashed potatoes, steamed carrots, and chewy dinner roll. This stuffed chicken breast dinner was very good, and a tasty comfort dish I enjoyed. I did request a to-go container for much of the food and also got a slice of Lemon Meringue Pie ($3.95 plus tax) to go as well. I haven't had lemon meringue pie in about a year and I enjoyed this slice when I got back to the house. The check was $23.43 with tax and before tip. Overall, a solid good meal, nothing fancy. The service here was prompt. I would stop by again for food if I'm driving through this part of Washington County.

Plenty of way off street parking, nice grassy area, and plenty of tables with shade. The gals behind the window seemed very nice, and polite. We placed our order, and received it in maybe 10 minutes. Food was very good, great onion rings, really good hot dogs, and the burger was great!!!. Had the scallops the next day, still really good. OK, time to leave. We both used the rest room to wash our hands from the food. We were both impressed with how clean it was, definitely a plus. If I could give more than 5 stars, I would.
