I've been meaning to try this place ever since it opened up. I believe it's been a few months ago. I've read the reviews and they've kind of been all over the place so I thought I would form my own opinion and go have some brunch on a nice Sunday. If you're familiar, it's in the Old Main St., Tavern location in Montevallo. Several of the employees kept saying how busy it was there was two large parties that were there and then some other tables. There was no wait to be sat. Someone came and took our orders, but it took a few more minutes for someone to come back to take our order, but we were not in a rush, so that was no problem. Decided to get brunch i got the French toast, which was very delicious. It comes with bacon. My brunch date decided to get the shrimp and grits. We also got an appetizer of onion rings, goat cheese, and fried green tomatoes. The fried goat cheese was my favorite. It came with a lemon blueberry aïoli sauce. I ended up using the rum sauce. It tasted better to me. The fried green tomatoes were very delicious. I believe they do a bottomless mimosa, but I decided just to get a sprite. Unfortunately, unfortunately, the server was not very attentive with filling up our drinks. I think they were shortstaffed. I'll definitely be back for either their lunch or dinner because that menu looked good as well. There is a lot of cool decor on the walls and I believe they do karaoke on the weekends. read more

This place is delicious. The atmosphere and decor is very nice but not snobbish. We went there for brunch and definitely Enjoyed it. I had the crab cakes with brussels sprouts and grits. My son had French toast with bacon and my hubby had an omelette with grits and bacon. The coffee was great and the service was exceptional. First time visit today after hearing great reviews and boy was I let down....service was absolutely atrocious. I ordered a beer and drank it while waiting for our meal. Finally was given a glass of water as I was finishing up my meal. Waiter was non existent in checking in on us the entire time all the way down to us having to flag him down to finally let us pay. Food was bland. Ribeye had no sear what so ever, the compound butter that was scattered on top was the only flavor. Cheese grits tasted like air... fries were soggy and bland as well. It's as if the chef is allergic to salt. Highly doubt I'll come back. I'll continue to give the Main Street Tavern my business. So very disappointed in this place. read more

We stopped in on a Saturday for an early lunch. They had not been opened long and we got seated pretty quickly. They offer a large drink/bar selection so you can have a drink while you decide on your meal. Since the location just opened timing/wait time kinks are still being worked on but overall we had no complaints and our food was good. Tried for the first time. Wasn't very crowded but when we first sat down, we realized the table beside us waited a very long time for their order to be taken and even longer than us for food to arrive. Our food came out a little too quickly actually, seemed already prepared. My husband ordered chicken and waffles, they were okay not great and not hot. I ordered shrimp & grits and it was awful. Shrimp were tiny and very fishy tasting. Grits were barely warm and dry. It looked like frozen corn and vegall dumped on top. When I told the waiter I didn't care for my food, which I did not eat, he responded "aww, I like the shrimp & grits. Maybe next time." Did not offer anything else or offer to refund, just took away my full plate when he brought check. It's cute inside but we will not be returning. read more

We tried indigo cafe for the first time and it was great. We had three French dips and it was one of the best I have ever had. I would highly recommend that. The chicken salad trio was also great. One other person in our party got the chicken and waffles at brunch and they said it was amazing also. The staff were all nice and very helpful. read more

The decor made me feel as though I had stepped into an upscale restaurant somewhere other than my town. The service was excellent. I chose to have the French Dip. It was tender and delicious. My friend and I decided to have a glass of wine after our meal. I chose chardonnay. Never have I tested the "notes" of anything. However, I tasted floral notes on the back of my tongue. It's the best I ever had. I highly recommend Indigo's. Will definitely return. read more

My husband and I drove to Montevallo for a visit to the Campus there and decided to have Brunch at Indigo (as we had been there before). We waited almost 40 minutes to be waited on , when arriving they were not busy, only one waiter present, order was finally taken and almost 40 minutes later we had food., we had to flag him down and ask where our food was. The owner said they only had one chef that day. No complaints on the food, but the Brunch turned into lunch. read more

We had a reservation for a birthday dinner and arrived on time. We ordered some iced teas and a couple of cocktails. 30 minutes later we had 3 iced teas but no cocktails and no one took our order or even acknowledged us. When we decided to leave after 45 minutes of waiting for service, the only thing they cared about was that we pay for the tea. Birthday dinner ruined and we won't go back. read more

Loved the feel of this quaint little restaurant. Food was good. Especially the burger and onion rings. Service was pretty bad. Server never checked in even after dropping off food. We had to flag down the bar tender to get condiments and drink refills. Not sure if they need more help or more training. Otherwise I look forward to going back. read more

I read a couple of reviews after our poor experience and I had a very similar experience. I went on Father's Day and we went for an early lunch/brunch. When we got there, there was only one table sat and our party of 5 was quickly greeted and sat. We were not immediately ready to order so the waiter gave us a few minutes which turned into around ten minutes and several tables were sat by then. Needless to say our order took a very long time once our order was taken. I, having never been there, decided to play it safe (or so I thought) by getting the $16 burger. I thought, who could mess up a burger? They can. It was not a good flavor at all and on top of that my fries were cold. When I mentioned the fries being cold, the waiter said he could get me some hot fries and tried to take my plate back. I didn't want him to take my burger back so I said he could just leave the fries and bring me back hot fries when they came out. He agreed and shortly after came back out with a bowl and asked if he could just remove my plate so he could take the fries off and make room for my new fries. Well, I didn't want him to take my burger so I took the fries off my plate and put them into the bowl. About 5 minutes later, my "new" fries came out and the were nice and hot. I only had to eat a couple before realizing they served me the same fries from before that they just dropped into the grease for a few minutes. I was pissed. I stacked my fries on top of my crappy burger and the waiter asked if I did not like the burger. I was honest and told him I did not. I also told him that I was pretty sure they had served me the same fries twice and he readily admitted that they had and that he tried to talk them out of it but they'd run out of fries (mind you,we were the second family there). No one else checked on us after the complaint and he continued to tell us that most people like the burger and that he was surprised, but here's your $80 bill. Happy Father's Day. That was just my own personal experience. My son's chicken was also undercooked on his chicken and waffles. My wife had a wedge salad with a side of chicken and her chicken was also undercooked. One of my sons had catfish that he said was pretty good and my other son had eggs Benedict that he also said was pretty decent. Overall it was not a great experience. Outside of the food and service: I visited the restroom when we first got there and the restroom was very dirty. The garbage had obviously not been emptied from the day before as it was filled to the brim at 11am when they first opened. It had also not been cleaned. On top of that, there were several flies buzzing around our table. I realize that not a whole lot can be done about that and I also realize that the (manager?) was trying to be helpful but it came across as a little incompetent when she brought us a fly swatter and said, I saw that there were some flies bothering you so I thought this might help" as she laid the swatting end of the swatter on the table and on top of my wife's phone. I mean, really?! Needless to say, we won't be back. This was one of the worst restaurant experiences I've ever had. Disappointed is an understatement. read more

Indigo "don't go" Cafe My wife called this morning and made a reservation for 3:30pm for an early date night. This is our first time and didn't realize that they wouldn't be serving dinner until 5pm until we were seated and given the lunch menu. We asked if we could order from the dinner menu but the kitchen told our waiter we couldn't. Although we were disappointed, we stayed. The restaurant decor was nice and the bar was beautiful. We were the only patrons there. While we looked over the menu, my wife ordered a Tom Collins and I ordered their Indigo Blush. They were both served in very small skinny glasses. Her Tom Collins was good but my Indigo Blush had no hint of any alcohol. My wife ordered their wedge salad and chicken Fettuccine Alfredo and I ordered their mixed green salad and blackened catfish filet that was served on a bed of grits surrounded by collard greens. After taking our order and giving it to the kitchen, he came back to see if we wanted our salads before the entrees. We said yes, please. However, he disappeared for a good 15 minutes before he came to check on us without salads in hand. I reminded him that we wanted our salads before the entree. He said, "Oh yeah, let me get those." He returned with them about 5 minutes later. We'd only had time to get halfway through enjoying our salads when he showed up with our entrees. Although annoyed, we moved our unfinished salads to the side to make room for our entrees. Keep in mind we are the only patrons in the restaurant. My wife took that opportunity to order a second Tom Collins. My wife's Chicken Fettuccine Alfredo was a 5 out of 10. While my blackened catfish was so salty it was almost inedible. Our server had disappeared again so I was unable to convey this to him. I had to eat small bites of it along with some grits to balance it out. The collards were salty too, but edible. We finished our meals and were looking for our and the only waiter but he had disappeared again. I moved my plate to the edge of the table hoping he might come out and see it. However, a nice lady that we believe was the owner came and cleared our table for him. She sent him out to take care of us.... He brought our check that was almost $100 for lunch! We learned that the drinks we ordered were $12 each as they didn't have prices on the menu. That's our fault for not asking their price. He asked how everything was and I told him that mine was extremely salty but I went with it. He said he'd let the chef know. We paid and left. That was our first and last time to eat there. read more

Want to share the word about a new dining option for downtown Montevallo! This is a promising restaurant that has the potential to be a top tier choice! Anyone local that wants a nice meal, a different option for brunch or lunch, or a night out as well as the slew of families in town for college sports & activities, this is a good choice. We were very impressed with the front of house manager Isa and his interest in the quality of our meal as well as any feedback. We enjoyed the eclectic atmosphere filled with a mix of art and antiques as well as the gorgeous bar pictured. They offer a full bar, wine choices and handcrafted cocktails. The soup of the day was a creamy Parmesan artichoke which was quite tasty. Need a place for a group gathering? Book club, gals night out, you name it!, they can accommodate you. With some more word of mouth & a few tiny tweaks, I see Cafe Indigo garnering lots of attention in the restaurant space. read more

I went here today 2/16 and was pretty disappointed. We were the first ones in the restaurant, 20 minutes after it opened. We gave our orders, my 2 friends ordered the huge and I ordered the chicken and waffles. The chicken and waffles are part of the brunch menu which was not being served this day, but the waitress assured us they were serving brunch. So then 5 minutes later she come back and tells me they don't have it, which I assumed since they weren't supposed to be serving it. So I ended up getting the burger like my friends. The food took about an hour, even though we were the first ones and it was not busy. The fries were cold and there was tomato on my friends burger that he requested to be removed.I finished my water 5 minutes in and didn't get refilled until I received the bill. The waitress was very inattentive. My friends burger also had parchment paper cooked on it when it was brought out to him the second time.
