I got a lunch special with lamb coconut curry for $18.95. The lamb coconut curry was so delicious. I tried my friends dish which wasn't quite as tasty. The Peshwaren naan was a stand out with cheese and honey. It was so tasty and is basically a dessert. The there's an outdoor seating area, which isn't anything special but at least there's fresh air. The man who served us was very nice, although I think it's a small operation, and when I tried to get the bill, I couldn't find him because I think he was helping out in the kitchen. Came here with friends while in LA. I had never been here and I saw the reviews and pictures and figured why not, try a new Indian place with our Indian couple. We got the samosas which our friend asked to put the charney and Garbanzo on top, I forgot what they call it. But that was def a favorite! We also got the cauliflower which is not pictured and it was so good! The green chutney was amazing! My husband and I got the dinner menu which has rice, two veggies, salad or yogurt and a stew and naan from the list. I got the coconut curry and my husband basically got the butter chicken. When you talk to Indians about Indian food in the US, they always complain that it's a cheap facsimile of the real deal in India. What you get is muted flavors that are adapted to the American palette, and the same dishes masquerading as staples in every restaurant, ignoring the continental sized country with a million dishes across 25+ regional variances. India grill bucks that trend to be generic copy. They bring on the flavors and are accommodating to requests for less oil. I usually opt for 'medium' spicy that balances the need for flavor without so much heat that you cannot taste the main ingredients. It's a family run restaurant, highlighting their North Indian heritage - think colder climate, curries with butter and tandoori meats and breads. I am a big fan of their fresh breads. Esp. the garlic basil naan. They do many kinds of paneer (Indian cottage cheese) that's a good vehicle for the sauces/curries. The smoked eggplant mash dish (baingan bharta) was stellar as well, capturing the umaminess of roasted eggplant with the smokiness of the tomato onion garlic sauce. The malai kofta (veggie dumplings) in sauce was another highlight. Portions are generous and pricing is in the middle of the range of Indian fare. I usually add a bunch of tofu to the curries to make a fun dinner the next day. Esp. with amazing sourdough bread. India grill is a must try for anyone who savors the delectable food of the Indian sub-continent. Just be prepared to add 5-10 minutes to your pick time time, as they make it to order. Stopped by for dinner on a weekday, got seated right away! They were able to make bhindi masala and malai kofta without onion and garlic. We had chili naan (naan is eggless) and rice with it. It was my friend's first time having Indian food and he thought it was delicious and fragrant. He had the masala chicken, medium spicy and says it was just right. He also really liked the chicken and cheese naan. My other companion had chicken korma, also medium and felt it was the right spicy, and the whole meal was incredibly filling. We're on an Indian food kick this weekend and wanted to see if the replacement restaurant from San Vicente Blvd was the same after they were torn down and moved to Wilshire. Dropped by for lunch while I was in the area and boy did I make a good decision. The restaurant itself is small it only has a few tables but it's very nice inside. The staff is very friendly and welcomed me in and seated me right away. I started with the samosas because I love them and it's what I try at every Indian restaurant I go to. The samosas were large and they were hot and crispy. The filling was very good and there was plenty of it, I could have gone with a touch more spice but it was still really good and they brought me a little carousel of different sauces for it, the mint chutney was phenomenal I really loved it. For the main course I had the lamb vindaloo. It was the lunch special so the portion was a little small but it was enough to fill me up alongside the samosas. It also came with rice, potato and pea mixed in sauce and a small salad. Very reasonable priced and excellent food, I'd come by again anytime and highly recommend it. read more

I had no wish to relive the past, only to find closure in the future. This I did... I ordered the 'India's Grill Special For 2' meal. "Just you?" the owner asked... "Yes, just me... This time." I replied. I think he heard the tinge of melancholy in my voice. It was the same order my ex-lover ordered for both of us nearly three years ago. I remember seeing the spread and feeling like the meal could almost be fit for three, but in this moment, it was barely enough for a starving vagrant like myself. The meal deal gave me two vegetarian dishes: the Shahi Paneer and Matar Paneer. As well as two meat options: Tandoori Chicken and Chicken Tikka Masala, along with accompanying rice and naan. I licked the plates clean, and even had some leftover rice to put with the remaining curry sauce. That should tell you what you need to know about the food. The ambience is interesting. They were playing the same entrancing Harry Potter movie edit that they had on the last time I was here. Only this time, I had no annoying partner sitting across from me, talking nonstop to distract my attention. This time, I allowed myself to become fully hypnotized by the storyline. When the trio destroyed the final Horcrux, I was almost pulled to tears. Over the past two hours, I had watched Harry, Hermione, and Ron go from infancy to adulthood. I watched them navigate school, childhood, and relationships of their own. A thought floated into my mind of the parallels between my experience and those of the characters on screen. It passed. There were no magic wands or evil sorcerers in my experience, just an annoying ex-girlfriend who didn't love me anymore. I played eye-tag with the busser/owner/server so long trying to get the check, I thought I might close my eyes and reopen them to find us making out in the restroom. I was disappointed when neither my fantastical nor my real desire came true. I'll let you decide which was which. The meal finished with a complimentary dessert of four fried balls -- I don't remember the name of -- dripping in delicious syrup. They were like syrup-soaked pancake balls. And there were four of them. Normally two per person in the 'India's Grill Special for 2' meal, but tonight it was four to myself. I'm glad I came here alone, for now I have created my own individual relationship with India's Grill and hope to return soon. To my ex-lover, may the magic of my love bring you back to me. The coconut curry was absolutely divine, bursting with flavor. The masala dishes were superb, and the samosas were a delightful appetizer.
