I keep coming back every week and not sure why anyone would rate this place less than a 4 star as the service is excellent and the food is served hot and fresh with vegetables that you can cut with a fork. I've bee to other Indian restaurants throughout DE and PA and this one is far the best!!! It's clean and although, sometimes it doesn't seem too busy inside the restauran, take out is very busy and again the food is so delicious you can eat with your roti and don't even need a fork. My wife and I were celebrating our anniversary and in the mood for some good Indian food. India Grille did not disappoint! I got the Lamb Chef's Special customized with a spice level of 7 and some garlic naan. She got the Lamb Curry spiced to a level 2. It was absolutely delicious! We both got the Mango Lassi, which was quite rich with mango flavor. For dessert we got the rice pudding, which was excellent! I don't understand some of these negative reviews I've read. The food was delicious! The waiter was pleasant and the food took about 35 minutes to be served, which is to be expected for authentic A la carte Indian food. It was never *bad* but it wasn't especially flavorful or spicy (even on request), and portion size never quite matched up with the increasing prices. My dad really wanted to go here as his dinner choice when I owned him dinner so off we came. I'm ALWAYS down for pappadams. I veered from my normal go to and got the chicken korma, which I was very happy that I did. The way they did the korma sauce was different than I have had, it wasn't as liquidity and the chicken was hearty sizes of meat. They also have poori, which is another favorite of mine that many restaurants do not offer on the menu. I was very happy with my meal. My dad was happy with his and we had plenty to take home for leftovers. So the annoying part of the meal came at the end. When it was clear that we were ending our meal there, we couldn't get a server's attention to save our life. What made it more annoying is that another employee or someone that has some connection to the restaurant came in and she was just standing around. Sometimes she would walk back to the kitchen and then would just wonder out front to the entrance. She wouldn't acknowledge us when I tried to get her attention but I wasn't 100% sure she just wasn't a friend or family member who really didn't work there but had kitchen privileges. When I finally got the waiter's attention, we asked for the check and take out boxes. He finally came back, brought 1 which was too small for all the food. We asked for the check again and he said "oh and I'll bring back a bag." He came and brought a plastic bag, no 2nd take out containter and no check and walked away. Kept trying to get his attention, my dad finally walked back to the back where the workers were standing, asked for the check and was shooed away that yes, they are bringing it in one minute. 1 minute turned out to be another 5 of us waiting and asking again and finally the other male server comes out and goes "oh it looks like you are finished, can I get you anything else?" Yes, the check! Finally got the check. Even though I handed him the payment, the male server went to give it back to my dad and was addressing him until he was corrected that I actually paid. Pappadoms were fresh and free, which I find to be a good bonus. I had the Chicken Pakora to start. Nicely spiced, not too hot. Six decent sized pieces with a garnish. For main, I had Chicken Saag and the spice level was a little high (I requested "slightly hotter than medium") but spooning on some riata really helped. Garlic naan was very garlicky (that's apparently a word, according to my spell check) but was unevenly baked with some doughy spots and some blackened spots. The owners are Bangladeshi and the food is identified as Halal -- I can only guess Halal restaurants aren't so common in the Wilmington area. I have been to this place a few times and have always had a good experience. However I have noticed that their variety and quality has decreased a little over time. I think this is because there used to be 2 Indian buffets in the area, the other being in the independence shopping center further south along 202. The first few times I went to this buffet, while the other buffet was still open, India Grill had jumbo shrimp curry as part of their buffet. I was totally impressed and believe it was a great value. Fast forward a few years and although they still have a selection of protein and vegi dishes, there's just something not quiet the same, the tandoori was a little too salty, the Chicken Tika marsala was a little to acidic from too much tomato I think, and the goat could have used a little more heat. The chai was fantastic, not too sweet and not too overpowered with spices for my taste. To summarize, I'd love to give this place a 3.5 star, but given the choice it's definitely closer to 3 than 4. read more

Moved to Wilmington 4 years ago after living in Australia and UK, we have searched for a good eat in Indian restaurant. Last night we found India Grille, and despite the rather dated 80s vibe decor, we were delighted with the wonderful food. We were even asked how hot we like our curries on a scale of 1 to 10. We chose 8 as so far most requests elsewhere for a hot curry have been somewhat disappointing. We were pleasantly surprised and enjoyed dishes at our favoured heat. The Palak Paneer was fantastic and not pureed slop with bit of cold cheese floating around, that we have experienced at other local Indian restaurants. The spinach was obviously handcut and seasoned perfectly. The only reason we're not giving India Grille 5 stars, is because of the constant stream of pick up orders (others know this place is good!) that took our waiter's attention away so we had to call him over for service. This is my first review on yelp. I Specifically created an account just to give this place a review. It was that good! First, the waiter staff is very kind and accommodated my sons gluten allergy. My order: Vegetable samosa (7/10) decent Lamb kabob masala (10/10) amazing, nice pieces of lamb and the sauce was incredible. Grill fish salmon (11/10) ordered for the table, huge portion and very good. Plain naan / tandoori roti (9/10) Mango lassi (7/10) it's alright. Rice (10/10) didn't expect regular white rice to be so good! Seasoned and spiced very nicely. Kheer (9/10) for desert was very good. Very different than what I have had before but excellent. Not to pricey compared to other places I have been. Easily the best Indian restaurant in Wilmington, Delaware and Garnett valley area. Went to this restaurant's web site to order dinner (which is some of the worst butter chicken I ever had) and since it was being picked up by my spouse, took the order option that didn't charge an extra fee. They didn't check the fax machine and lectured my husband about using amn option that was inconvenient for them... We ended up arguing about it and I called and complained that they brought great distress to mynhome over their unsatisfactory dinner and unacceptable business practices. He said if I used their site I would have gotten a coupon that wasn't there... he actually lectured me for using an order option he doesnt prefer yet puts on his site. He was rude, unapologetic, and told me never to call again. I WONT.. and I urge people to put ketchup on KFC to get more tasty butter chicken... and I hate ketchup. Don't order from here. We went yesterday at 1:30 pm and ate the buffet- no menu was even offered. We weren't offered anything to drink other than water, and the waiter was gruff, short, and rude. When we asked for bread he cut us off and said it was coming out. We had a Living Social coupon but when we took out the coupon they told us that it was not valid for the buffet, which is not stated in the fine print. Then they tried to tell us it wasn't valid because it said "dine-in only" and when we told them we did eat in the restaurant they tried to tell us the coupon said not valid for a buffet, which it does not say. Then when we challenged that they tried about 2 other excuses. Service was awful and rude, and they ended up making us pay and trying to tell us to come back to use the coupon. My family came here a while ago expecting good Indian food. Sad to say the food was disappointing. I have had authentic Indian food many times. I was surprised to see that they messed up the chicken tikka masala curry. It was so bland and maybe even watery. This is usually a go-to option at Indian restaurants and the fact that even this was not prepared properly is telling. I even had Biriyani and other curries and nothing was doing it for me. They all tasted bad. The ONLY good thing when I went was the chili chicken! That was superb! Haven't been in a while and not sure I will go anytime soon. I've been on an Indian kick and eating it about once a week; and this did nothing for me. I ordered the coconut soup since it was something I don't normally see; which was ok.... not much more than warm coconut milk. We ordred paneer pakoras; and found them to be lacking in spice and taste. The same was true for my entree; chicken Korma. The chicken was very plain; like it had not been spiced or marinated at all. The sauce was not the soul-warming deliciousness that usually is korma; it was very plain tasting, had absolutely no spice (I had ordered medium). My sister enjoyed her Chicken Tikka having tried a new dish for the first time. But she also thought that it was rather plain. she was offered a sauce which she accepted, but found that the sauce was even more boring. I was a little wierded out when using my Living Social voucher; they asked for my license and recorded all of my information. Checking ID would be one thing (but those CAN be given as gifts), but I felt it was not at all necessary for her to record any of the information.
