Stopped in yesterday and ordered the chicken kabob wrap lunch special. It's $9.99, comes with a drink and is huge and quite good! Also got veggie samosas and mango lassi which is delicious! Everything was served fresh and hot. The owners were very friendly and kind. All meats are Halal. Lots of vegetarian options. I went here once not long after they've opened for the dinner buffet and I dare say the the food here was not very good and the selection for the buffet was very poor. The dishes were mostly chicken and vegetables. There were no shrimp or lamb included in the buffet. For the price, $12.99, and barely anything worthwhile, the dinner buffet is a rip off. To elaborate, my idea of Indian food consists of heavily spiced basmati rice in a pilaf or biryani, or some spicy curry of some kind. Usually I look for the taste of spices such as cumin, paprika, cardamom, etc. The buffet food at Indian Sizzler was nothing of the sort. Instead, it was sweet, tangy, and devoid of spice flavor. FYI, the owners of this place are not Indian. They're Pakistani. I heard they named the place Indian Sizzler because they were afraid no one would want to go if they labeled it a Pakistani name. Now I don't really know the difference between Indian and Pakistani food and I don't really care too much that they're not Indian but I can definitely tell bad cooking when I taste it. Authentic or not, the buffet food here tasted like homemade average-joe stews. In other words, the quality of the ingredients was very poor and the dishes seemed carelessly put together. There were a couple of entree dishes that consisted of cheap meats (chicken and some kind of fish) swimming in greasy, buttery sweet curry sauce. It was not spicey at all and tasted sickeningly sweet and tangy like they added tomato or tamarind paste. I think these were called the chicken and fish tikka masala. The non-saucy dishes were chicken biryani and tandoori chicken. The tandoori chicken defiinately did not taste like it has been cooked in a tandoor or even on a grill. I did not perceive any flavor from it. For all I know the chicken could have just been brushed with a coat of red food coloring. The chicken pilaf/biryani was absymal. Instead of individual grains of golden spiced rice, the rice was sort of dry and clumpy. I've never had basmati rice that was clumpy! It had barely any flavor and I had to dig around in the rice to find pieces of chicken. Aside from those entree dishes, there wasn't much else. There were a couple of cheezy salad bar items such as iceberg lettuce and cherry tomatoes. Horrible fillers much? There were crummy pieces of dry, hard naan (which got replenished very slowly) and some fried vegetable fritters of some kind. The rest were various sauces, purees, and chutneys. They also had one desert item but it wasn't any good, otherwise I would've remembered it. I just ended up eating naan with the green cilantro/mint chutney that they had instead of the meat dishes because the chutney was the most tastey, non-sweet thing there. It was a very disappointing meal. I might come back here and try ordering something from their menu to give them another chance but I definitely do not recommend the dinner buffet for the going price is (I think 12.99). This is a great buffet for both lunch and dinner. Relatively inexpensive for both. Clean. Good selection. Very good vegetarian options -- usually more veggie options than meat, and the veggie options are top-notch. The choice of dishes in the buffet is also highly variable: if you come back on different days, you will find a significantly different selection of dishes. Quality here is consistently good. One of the meals I've had here was definitely among the best Indian food I have ever enjoyed in my life. That's a bold statement, but I will testify to it. Until recently, Indian restaurants were not easy to find near the University of Delaware. Gratefully, Kazi Abdus Samee, the owner of a TCBY location on Main Street in Newark DE, decided to close up shop and reinvent the location as an Indian restaurant, with both a buffet and waiters with traditional restaurant service. The menu is exclusively Indian food, and I paid a visit with a friend on the evening of Sunday, March 6, 2011. Nothing disappointed; the food at the buffet was delicious, flavorful, and a bargain at $12.99 for all-you-care-to-eat service. All buffet orders come with a 20-ounce soda. I tried the mango lassi, a drink similar to a mango smoothie. It was sweet and delicious, and it certainly helped with calming the spices found in the Indian dishes. However, the spices were not overwhelming. My favorite was the Tandoori chicken; the chicken is marinated in yogurt and seasoned with tandoori masala, and cooked at high temperatures in a tandoor (clay oven). Cayenne pepper, red chili powder or kashmiri red chili powder is used to give it a fiery red hue. Other foods -- and sauces -- were nothing short of extraordinary. I only wish they offered the menu to more people because from the outside it looks like the place only does the buffet option. Price wise items off the menu seemed a little high, but the food quality was very good. Pros: good food. Manager on site and very interested in keeping guests happy. Service relatively fast. Nice location on Main Street. Several tables on the patio, if you like to eat outside. Place seemed clean and friendly. Cons: If you want the buffet, check their buffet hours. We visited Indian Sizzler on the recommendation of our cashier in the Oxford Redner's Market, who is apparently an Indian food aficionado. It's tucked in a fairly standard eat-in/take-out sized storefront towards the western end of Main Street in Newark. The interior furniture and decor were adequate, not overdone, but also not without a few spots where improvement could be made. Immediately impressions were that it felt acceptably clean, but not spotless. The buffet area in particular put me off slightly from a distance, but up close it seemed okay, so maybe it was just the lighting. Regardless, the atmosphere and level of cleanliness of the tables, walls, and non-food contacting surfaces was a bit less than perfect (our table was VERY stained)...HOWEVER, all the food contacting surfaces, dishes, and tableware were spotless, so I don't see any hygiene issues, just some cosmetic stuff typical of most places with an active buffet. Enough about that...let's talk about the food. We elected to have the buffet AND order off the expansive menu, since the buffet was limited to maybe a dozen items. The buffet was reasonably priced and had basic staples like naan, tandoori chicken, curry chicken, rice, etc... The food was still very hot and had very clearly been recently prepared. It was of good quality. The tandoori was a particular highlight for me, and my wife really liked their curry. Their naan was correctly described by our Redner's cashier as "not too chewy, but chewy enough." It was good, although I wonder if maybe table service for naan might be a better idea on busier days. This wasn't a busy day, and so replacements for finished up food on the buffet weren't quick. I don't blame them, they had three customers total in an hour, since UD was out of session. We also ordered the tikka masala. This was excellent. Perfectly done, very well executed sauce, and just hot enough. Service was friendly and reasonably prompt. They were talkative and very nice. About the only off-putting thing we encountered was a woman from the back starting to do paperwork in the middle of the restaurant during our meal, but she left fairly quickly. Otherwise, the front of house staff was very nice and made sure we got everything we wanted. 4/5. Can find minor things to criticize, but overall the food was good and the experience was pleasant. Here is the deal: you pay one price and get access to the all you can eat buffet and get a soft drink, or you can order off of the menu. This is a very casual restaurant. I think the proprietor used to run a TCBY out of this property, but closed it to run an Indian Restaurant. For a casual place, the wait staff wear black pants, white oxford shirts and ties. It would be less awkward perhaps if they didn't dress so formally, since most customers eat from the buffet. The food on the buffet was just OK and appeared as though much of it had been there for hours. I asked to have the naan re-plenished, and they only brought out a few pieces. If you are in downtown Newark and want casual Indian, this place is OK. To me, not worth the aggravation of paying to park, etc. I would imagine this is a very great place for lunch. read more

I am not at all impressed with this restaurant. I think they recycle the same food over many days and try to drown the staleness of the food with a lot of spice. Waiting staff is quite strange and I do not understand why they have to dress that way. It feels like a place run by those Bangladeshis passing it off as "Indian". Try as they might, Bangladeshis can never cook as good as Indian. Unless this is your only choice on the planet I would suggest you keep away from this one. I usually don't leave reviews but I ordered 2x chicken tikka masala, 2x garlic naan, chef special biryani delivered for a total of 61$. Each chicken tikka masala had 5 small pieces of chicken. For 15$ each it was a very big disappointment. The garlic naan was stale. The chef special biryani was basically meatless and not one raisin. This review is based on a one-time visit and also by somebody who is not a indian cuisine connoisseur. I've never been a big fan of curry so I've always been afraid to try indian food. I went in here with a friend during her lunch break and she loves indian food so she told me to try the chicken tika roll. This is the first time I've tried it but I thought it was delicious! The chicken was seasoned with so many different spices causing my tongue to be confused for a while! In a good way, though :) The portion was huge! Came with a soda too and all for under 5 dollars. It felt like it was a bit under a foot long. I definitely didn't finish it but I was happy to take it home. The only reason I'm giving them 3 stars is because I need to try more things on the menu since I have nothing to compare it to. Hopefully I will try the rest of their menu items soon! read more

As I said thank you and stared to walk out he changed the price. I agreed to the new cost. The attendant started to fill my styrofoam container with lots of rice while scrimping on the vegetable dishes. I drove home disappointed hoping it would taste better than it looked... This is one of the best Indian restaurants I've dined at in the US. My wife and I do the buffet about once a month, and sometimes as takeout. The buffet is good and varied (daily lunch, Sunday dinner), with lots of vegetarian and vegan options. It changes every day, and always has about a dozen varied hot options, plus a simple salad bar with a couple of sweet options. The buffet items are pretty mild. But after having ordering off the menu several times for larger parties, I've found that the menu items are the truly exceptionally good dishes. When I commented on how great it was, the owner said the chef was from London (one of the capitals of Indian cuisine). When ordering off the menu, make sure to explain your 'heat' level preference, or you might get something too hot by American standards. The decor is really plain and cheap. The outdoor tables and chairs are plastic. Indoor furnishings are not much fancier than a corporate cafeteria, and there's not much to deaden the sounds of others talking or the tv which is usually on during the day to a soccer match or Ballywood movie. The tinted windows below the large front awning make it appear kind of dark and empty from the outside, but it's really worth a try. FREE PARKING in the rear! Turn in the alley right before the restaurant. They have about 10 spaces in the back. read more

I used to like Indian sizzler a lot. Especially the chicken tikka masala. However, they're a tad overpriced compared to the competition, and after today I most certainly won't be going back. I called in to make an order and a lady answered and before I could place my order asked me to hold briefly, after holding for about a minute or so I heard a toilet flush. this was the absolute grossest thing I could imagine a restaurant doing. (Also why not just use the mute button) I could only wonder if after using this obviously cordless phone in the bathroom she would bring this same phone in the kitchen where food is being prepped or Better yet be the one preparing my food. After I heard the toilet flush I was so disgusted I hung up. Once again, I had not placed an order yet because I was placed on a hold immediately, yet the lady called me back twice even leaving a voicemail asking me to call back and place my order. I've worked in the service industry for years and one of the points they stress is how unsanitary your phone can be especially when handling others food. I'm fairly convinced that the high ratings for this place are driven by the dearth of better food from other countries on Main Street. I've eaten here a couple of times and the quality of food can be quite variable, ranging from "ok" to "quite disappointing"(especially if you have eaten good Indian food). Steer clear of the gulab jammun and rasmalai; they taste nothing like they should. So I order everything she had and I'm telling you it was delicious. I order Garlic Naan. Chicken Biryani omg y'all. Keema samosas and veggie ones. My absolute favorite was my dish the Aloo Gobi. It's cauliflower and potatoes cooked in this sauce filled with amazing herbs and spices. The samosas come with this sweet tamarind sauce and it's to die for. Always ask for extra lmao. I also had a white yogurt sauce that came with my Biryani it was great too.
