I can see why India Gate is rated so well. We were going to grab matcha next door but the smell of Indian spices overtook us, and what do you know, it happened to be lunch hour. They had Father's Day pricing which was $21.99 but usually I think it's a few dollars less. Either way, we'd come back. The food was hot, fresh, steaming and the area looked clean. Service was fantastic. They are consistent in refilling their dishes. Their garlic naan was so chewy and crispy, held our many dishes well. My recommendations are their butter chicken (must have), vegetable korma, paneer, and fish curry. The desserts were all good, from their mango pudding to gulab jumun and gajar ka halwa. The gajar is a blend of carrots slow cooked into water and milk, it's nice and light. Would recommend, better than some of the already tasty Indian buffets in the immediate area! read more

We have passed by this restaurant quite many but always thought it's some dying restaurant. But trust me it's a hidden gem. We were craving some dosa on a late Saturday evening, called them and asked if the food is halal. Which they confirmed . We ordered masala dosa , chicken tikka masala , chilli chicken and naan. They have also rearranged their furniture and use of space, which makes this place more bright and clean. These are all positive upgrades and it makes dining here a pleasant experience. I love coming here for the lunch buffet at $17.99 per person. Their food offerings to vary from time to time, but here are staples that I can always count on being there - goat curry, butter chicken, and biryani. The food tastes good and the unlimited garlic naan is always made fresh to order. The service here is friendly and attentive. It's always a hit or miss for us with Indian food. We're always in search of authenticity and quality ingredients, which is not easy to find nowadays. We saw India Gate on Yelp and were in the area while out of town in Costa Mesa. We ordered Garlic naan, Baingan Bharta, Vegetable Masala. Although we ordered two dishes, we only received one rice. The Baingan Bharta was served in a plastic bowl and the first two bites were too spicy to continue eating. There was a hair in the veggie masala and the veggies looked to be frozen bagged veggies rather than fresh. Our raita was lumpy and looked old. We expressed concern and it was taken away and we weren't charged for the raita which was $4. We paid and left without eating. I did let the man know so they can hopefully make needed changes. There are a few favorite dishes we always have, Chicken Vindaloo and aloo saag (spinach and potatoes). Indian cafe killed it and both of these dishes. Very nice staff and no wait on a Tuesday lunch time. They have an $18 all you can eat lunch special. The buffet is small but you don't need much except for the hot naan and plates of curry. Came on a Saturday noon time for their all you can eat buffet, and it was relatively busy. Quickly seated, still some tables open, but plenty of people around. AYCE lunch Indian buffet is available weekdays 11 AM to 2:30 PM, and weekends from 11 AM to 3 PM. $17.99 for AYCE, is an absolutely fantastic deal for the quality of food, amount of options, and a fantastic service. They have a couple of servers running around getting you there, freshly baked garlic naan, refilling, waters, and clearing plates. Garlic naan- so good, this was actually amazing, warm, Crispy, nice bits of garlic on top. Using this to soak up the leftover sauce on your plate was so satisfying. Of all the options, what really stood out to me was the Palek Paneer (spinach), butter chicken, Tandoori Chicken. (I know I'm basic), but they really got the basic stuff down and it was so good. The folks who run this place are great people, and the food is always fresh and hot by the time we get home to eat. However for the first time I DoorDashed their food and it is so disappointing. The lamb chunks are either extremely lean or fatty, nothing like the tender and flavorful meat I had at their buffet. Ordered for carry out. It took a while to prepare but in all fairness, we did order a lot of food in preparation for having lots of leftovers (and we did, indeed, have a lot). We got: chicken tikka masala, butter chicken, dal makhani, palak paneer, naan, paratha, and samosas. So much food! The standout for me was the dal and chicken tikka but everything had great flavor. It was good day of and day after. Everything was hot and fresh even after the car ride home. My only nit is there wasn't an option to select spice levels so everything was pretty much mild.
