Update 5/14/2025 Today we received notice that our tag has been cancelled by the DMV because they dealer never transferred it. It turns out that they misspelled names on our contracts and needed to make changes. They tried to blame us for them putting my husband's name on some paper work incorrectly. They said that they have been trying to reach us but that is absolutely not true. We had no voicemails, no phone calls, no texts... nothing. This is an absolute lie. So now we have a car we cannot drive again because they failed to complete the transfer of the tag. I asked for a name or manager or parent company to escalate the situation to and the general manager refused to provide that information and hung up on me. She has been very rude the entire time and has continued to not acknowledge any wrong doing by the dealership. ----------------- I want to start by saying that our initial experience at the dealership was great. Our salesperson, Toshi, was professional, friendly, and made the in-dealership negotiation and purchase process smooth and enjoyable. Based on that, we felt confident enough to return and purchase a second vehicle just days later. Unfortunately, things took a turn once we left the lot. Despite having signed all the paperwork and completed both deals, we were sent home with a three-day dealer tag and a "test drive" document--which was confusing and felt misleading, since this clearly was not a test drive. I raised my concerns, but nothing was done. We were assured the temporary tag and a return envelope for the dealer tag would be overnighted to our home. That never happened. I had to call multiple times to follow up. Meanwhile, I also noticed that my trade-in vehicle still hadn't been paid off. I was told they didn't plan to send the check to pay off the trade for several more weeks. I expressed my frustration and even had to threaten to return both vehicles before they took any real action. Even now, more than two weeks after purchase, I still don't have a valid temporary tag. I still have the original dealer tag, which is no longer valid, and I cannot legally drive the vehicle. Despite full payment being received by my bank, the dealership delayed the tag and registration transfer, again forcing me to make repeated calls and demands just to get a basic step completed. I still have not received any proof that the registrations have been properly processed. To make matters worse, I am now making payments on three vehicles--the two I purchased and the one I traded in--because the trade-in hasn't been paid off. That's unacceptable. At this point, since the dealership does not seem interested in resolving the situation, I will be returning the dealer tag directly to the DMV and asking them to assist with issuing a proper temporary tag so that I can legally drive the vehicle I purchased. Lastly, when I got home from the dealership, I noticed the cap was missing from one of the tires. I was told (twice) that it would be overnighted. It never arrived. Overall, while our in-person experience was positive, the follow-through and post-sale customer service have been extremely disappointing and, frankly, concerning. The lack of communication, follow-through, and proper paperwork handling has made this a stressful and frustrating experience. I sincerely hope the dealership addresses these issues to prevent other customers from going through the same situation. read more

I bought an SUV there in March. they wanted $17k I got them down to $14,5 and just the other day, I received an offer for them to buy it back for $7k!!!! That made me feel like an idiot and I got scammed. And then when I called to talk to somebody about it, the guy kept interrupting and cutring me off, he didn't wanna hear it. I knew I should've got it shortly after I bought it because the windshield wiper fluid kept leaking the reservoir needed replaced. It took him four times and I gave up. It's still to this day it has a tiny leak in it DO NOT TRUST THEM!!! read more

If I could give a 0 star rating I would. I have a Mazda certified used 2019 CX-9 that we have owned since 2020 and never has been wrecked with a clean carfax. Purchased from Stevenson Hendrick Mazda in Wilmington. When purchased, it had less than 10,000 miles and we now have 89,248 miles on it and live in Charlotte. In stop and go traffic, the car recently started running hot and the air conditioner would blow hot air. I researched Mazda corporate technical service bulletins and Mazda sent me Bulletin No.: 01-023/19 and said I would need to take it to a dealership to have the work done since the PCM needed reprogrammed. The bulletin was for the Mazda 6 of the same year, but I was told this likely needed to be replaced. Some vehicles may exhibit engine overheating with one or more of the following symptoms: "EXCESSIVE ENGINE TEMPERATURE: ENGINE OUTPUT WILL BE LIMITED" displayed in the instrument cluster Red overheating indicator illuminated Engine temperature gauge reading in the red zone (260°F / 126°C or more) NOTE: This condition usually happens when the vehicle is in stop and go traffic. I took it into this service department and the diagnostic fee was $177. The next week, i received a text from the service manager asking me if the car was ever wrecked. I get a crazy video link that was horrible to navigate and understand with loud music playing in the background saying that the ground wire from a relay (PY8W-15-651) caused the relay to have a burnt end and fail. After finally speaking with the service manager, he told me it would be $670 to replace the relay and clean the paint off the ground wire plus the $177 diagnostics fee!!! After arguing that the needed PCM reprogramming may have caused this with him and they could not even verify with Mazda it was needed, I finally asked him how much it would be just to replace the relay. $275 parts and labor plus the $177 diagnostics fee!!! $452 just to replace a relay in a little box that sits behind the drivers side headlight!!!! I went to pick my car up today, paid the $177 diagnostic fee, and drove to O'Reilly auto parts to pick up a $25 relay that took me 2 minutes to put in. My air works, the car does not run hot in stop and go traffic, and only time will tell if it burns out again if it was the PCM programming or the painted ground I have still never been able to see after asking. I also found online where Mazdas from the factory are notorious for having this painted ground issue! But really what the $177 cost gave me was the knowledge that this service department will try to take you to the bank to rob you! Stay away! read more

They ordered it from another dealership in the color I wanted and had it ready to go quick. I absolutely love my car and feel like I had great customer service all-around and feel like I got a good deal with the OTD price. Edit: Months later still waiting on my refunds and I keep calling the dealership trying to get someone that can help and I get no where every time. Bought a new car and was told I was getting a great deal but they just kept taking my warranty refund checks from my last car and using them for the down payment without telling me that. Also still owed a refund check that they still won't pay me ( now 6 months later no check). When to cancel my current warranty and filled out the paperwork the guy told me he will get to it.... A month later I went in and he never cancelled my warranty. Stay away from the service department bc they told me a coworker with the same car I had has a speaker that sounded worse than mine and couldn't do anything to fix it even though I had it covered under warranty. I love Mazda but this place really sucks so don't buy from them. read more

I've been to this location for two cars now. The first car was definitely a below average experience getting it. Gave it to us with no gas as the gas card had gone missing. It took almost all day to get the car but since it was my first one, we figured it was issues with the bank approval. We just went this past weekend to turn in my lease and get a new one, seems pretty standard. I was very clear as to my budget and our sales guy Myles made it seem like it was not a problem. I end up with basically double my down payment and still way over budget monthly. If the cars I was shown were not in my budget, that should've been said WAY ahead of time prior to signatures. I understand that's part of the "game" for car salesmen, but it just seems a little shady. They were able to work out an okay price for me given the rates currently but it just rubbed me the wrong way given how clear I was about what I was looking to spend. Even with them having all my previous records and documents from only 3 years ago, they had a massive issue finding my details on my lease that they gave me. Not sure if systems got switched or what, but just seems a bit unorganized. All that to say, we showed up at 9:30AM and I didn't leave with my car until 2:15PM. We did one test drive and proceeded to sit in their dealership for the rest of the time. Detailing the car by itself was at least an hour and then another 30 minutes for them to fill up gas. While I'm waiting there for this exorbitant amount of time, my car salesman Myles, sees that he got the sale out of me and very quickly moves to the next client without even sending me off. He's selling to them and doing paperwork with them with the keys to my new car in his hand for at least 20 minutes. The only reason I'm not giving this a 1 star experience is because of Toshiya Namba. He's a car salesman who started a few months ago that recognized how long I had been there and made it a priority to get me out of the dealership promptly. He made no commission off of me, he was even showing me other cars for fun while I was waiting after I had already signed my lease. He helped me switch into my new car, set up my mymazda, and got me on my way after 5 hours at the dealership. Very appreciative to him, would recommend him if you're purchasing there. read more

Went in for the first oil change. Several weeks earlier my wife had a flat tire and while jacking up the car the jack broke. The dealer advised that as an "accessory" the jack was not covered under the factory warranty but that the dealer would replace it as a courtesy since the car was practically brand new. I had a fantastic experience at Independence Mazda when I took my 2020 CX-30 in due to some acceleration issues. They quickly diagnosed the problem which was the torque converter and, fortunately, the repair was covered under my extended warranty. :-) They had to order the part which arrived in a couple of days. They had the car for a little over a week (I had some other work done at the same time as well), but I was provided with a courtesy loaner so I was not left without wheels. All the service advisors were great but I primarily worked with Alex who made sure I understood the problem and kept me informed along the way. When I went to pick up my vehicle it was washed and ready to go. The car is running great now and acceleration is back to being smooth and responsive. I recently moved to North Carolina from Washington state. I have owned four Mazda's and bought three of them from the same dealer there. When I'm treated well, I am a loyal customer and, after this experience, I will definitely return to Independence Mazda.
