I was surprised to be subjected to so many reps and sets to different exercises on the first visit. The next few days I was hurting and not happy with that fact. My hope was to learn what exercises I needed and the proper way to execute them rather than over doing it on my first visit. Decided to forget about traveling to a PT location and come up with my own exercise plan and perform them at my own pace in the comfort of my home which I've done since that first visit and it's working out well. I learn more using Google and watching YouTube videos and no traveling anywhere and no co-pays to Medicare! Maybe going to PT will work out for you but I wasn't for me. Your mileage may vary!

Five different PT locations were researched before choosing Portera as the place for him to get the focused physical therapy that he desperately needed. Dr. Denbow is forward thinking, dedicated to his patients & thoughtful. We find the staff to be kind, courteous and very helpful. Being that this place is literally a jog from my house, it is super convenient! While I do consider it a downgrade from Kaiser (since I could also do optometry there), it definitely gets the job done. Before my first time, I called ahead to pick a doctor and give them my insurance info. That was relatively easy... when I went in before my appointment, they gave me this super long survey that I was supposed to fill out. It was so long, that I couldn't even finish before it was time to see the doctor. I haven't seen the survey since... oh well. It just seemed like a lot. The doctor I chose is Dr. Porter, and he's really cool! Usually it's a 15-20 minute in the room after the nurse takes my blood pressure and temperature, but I have always waited about that long... sometimes even longer, so it's something I am used to and have just come to accept as normal. The doc takes time to get to know me, check on how I'm doing, and how those I care about are doing. As for the lab work that comes after, I have had blood work done twice. The first time, the needle HURT LIKE HECK! The second time though, I didn't feel it at all, so that's a good sign. Overall, my experiences here have been positive. When I changed insurance recently, they had no issue changing that for me. I am well-aware that I have never come the office during peak hours, and from how small the waiting room is, I can't imagine what that's like. So far so good, though. My health is in the balance, so if there were any serious issues I would definitely speak up about them.

It gave me the impression that's just their standard method of operating. What bothered me even more was watching the way they spoke to an elderly woman who was clearly just confused and needed some help. Instead she was met with impatience rather than being understanding. It's hard to understand how people working in healthcare, where you inevitably interact with people who are sick, elderly, uncomfortable, or simply unsure of what they're supposed to do, can respond that way. The entire experience left a poor impression. Having previously received healthcare through Inova, visits like this one really make me miss them. It was bad enough that I'd consider the drive to Inova so that the treatment can be more human.
