I understand that shops have minimum charges, but waiting more than two weeks for a quote on a cam bearing replacement--only to receive a price that high--was frustrating. When I picked the block up, it had developed some surface rust because it hadn't been moved the entire time it was there. That said, the staff was friendly and professional throughout the process. Not more than 5 minutes later my driver was on the way. I was picked up and dropped off sooner than the original estimate I was provided through the 1st company. The driver was friendly and fast. He was able to easily assist me, load my car into the flatbed and get me to the tire center. They take pictures before they touch your car as well as when they drop it off. I pay for the roadside assistance through my phone carrier so no exchange of payment was needed.

My search brought me to Import Auto Experts. Making the appointment was a strange experience. I spoke with someone named Jeannie who was very pleasant on the phone. I informed her that I wanted to schedule an oil/filter change and a battery replacement. She scheduled me and attempted to end the call (in a very professional way), but she never asked for the year/make/model of my vehicle which I thought was weird, so I spoke up and asked, as I wanted to ensure the technicians were using the parts that that I requested. After I asked, she sounded surprised at herself for not asking. No big deal at all. Within a couple hours, she called me back and asked which battery I wanted to purchase. She provided prices, but no information on the battery specifications, so I had to specifically ask. Again, not a huge deal, but I'm used to this information being given up front. Accessing the shop was easy, and there was lots of parking. Their waiting area is nothing special, but it was clean and quiet. I was the only person in the waiting area, so it was fine. If there were more than a few people in there, I don't think I'd want to sit there. Too cramped. After I checked in, I gave my keys, and they said they'd let me know when it was ready. I thought it was strange because they did not have me sign a quote before beginning the work. I thought this was required by law, but perhaps it was a state law and not applicable in Arizona. Also, if something regarding prices changes after the vehicle is in the possession of the shop, I thought they had to contact the customer to let them know of the additional costs before starting the work. Anyway, I basically went in without actually knowing the exact price for the quoted work other than the battery and battery replacement - which turned out that the quoted price I received for the battery was $130.99 and my paid invoice says that I paid $143.99. I personally don't care that much about $13, but if some people might, so that's why I'm mentioning it. I didn't speak up about it at the time as they wanted me to pay before I even saw the invoice. It's mostly on me for paying without asking to see the invoice before tapping my card. The bigger disappointments were discovered when I got home. After arriving at home, when I went to gather my things, I noticed that my seat was a little dirty. Nothing that couldn't be cleaned up with a damp towel. Then I noticed there was a dark liquid substance on my door handle. I'm thinking either the technicians hands were dirty, or perhaps the silver foil was removed from the bottle of oil near my vehicle and it splashed on it as it wasn't that much. These weren't big issues as I easily was able to clean it up myself, but the bottom line is there is clearly some lack of processes that either aren't being followed or don't exist at all. I don't take my car in for maintenance/repairs for it to have to clean up after them. Overall, the prices for my oil change and the battery swap were fair, and the work was done in a timely manner. I'll probably go back and give this place one more chance. But if the end experience is the same, I'll probably try to find another shop.

What is even more exceptional is finding a business that is able to leave an impression on you not just once, but one that consistently exceeds your expectations. We discovered Stamps when my wife's car was in need of tires. Our first experience brought us back, and every experience since has reaffirmed my opinion that Tim and his team are truly a rare find in the service industry. Most recently, I brought my F250 in for servicing. Of course, it was a weekday morning, trying to get kids to school before heading to work, and the truck won't start. Based on the input of a roadside assistance team, I was expecting to walk out with two new batteries and at least one, if not two alternators (dual alternator vehicle), and a hefty unexpected bill. Once the roadside assistance team got me running, I immediately called Tim and explained the situation. Tim, understanding my need to find a solution before it was time to pick up kids, worked with his schedule and told me that if I came right in, he'd have me ready by that afternoon. When I dropped off the truck, Tim had me in and out, he even drove me back to the house so that I could make arrangements to get to work as quickly as possible. Around lunch Tim called me to let me know that he had checked the entire system (batteries, alternators, starter, wiring, etc) and the good news was that everything checked out except the batteries. Regarding the batteries, I asked his opinion on several brands I'd researched, including some of the top-tier batteries on the market. Tim had every opportunity to up-sell me but that's not how Stamps does business. Instead, he considered my typical vehicle use, and recommended a set of batteries that should last me much longer without breaking the bank. When I picked up the truck that afternoon, Tim was again there to meet me. He explained exactly how they tested the system, what they found, and asked if I had questions....what you typically expect from a good service provider. Tim then told me to check-in with him and let him know if I saw anything out of the ordinary. He specifically told me what conditions to be aware of that might be indicative of another issue and reiterated to call him if there were any other difficulties. This is what, in my opinion, makes Stamps a great service provider. As I was getting ready to leave, Tim understood that this was an unanticipated expense and let me know that he was going to help me out on the final invoice. He applied a generous discount and wished me a Happy Thanksgiving. I walked out feeling as though I had someone looking out for my interests and I hope the Stamps team takes pride in knowing that they have absolutely earned my loyalty...a win-win situation, which should be the goal of any service provider.
