Been coming here for over 15yrs; consistently good, hot food. Great for getting take-out; fast! Love the crab Rangoon; not too sweet like other places. Chicken fried rice is a staple item for us. Hands down, best egg rolls in town. Very fast service and you definitely get your moneys worth.

We have eaten there multiple times over the past few years and it has been progressively worse each time we have eaten there. They may have been the best in the region a few years ago but that was under old management. The lunch is better than the dinner, the dinner it seems is just reheated left overs from lunch. The last two times the crab ragoons have been, greasy,soggy, oil laden and no filling flavor beyond cream cheese. The pepper steak was ok a few years ago but now it is mostly fried onion with a few pieces of steak. I am guessing this is to save them money. The lomein has no flavor and tastes like it was a week old. The last batch we got was over cooked, shriveled up, and drowning in oil. We have given up hope that the restaurant will return to what it once was and will not be returning. read more

I have always loved this place. My go to spot with family and friends for Chinese food. The last few times wasn't extremely satisfied but the past 2 times I have went there, I was less than happy. First time Mother's Day. Yes it was very busy. So we had to wait just a bit for a seat, which was our fault because we did not make a reservation but after being sat, our waitress was very flustered and didn't seem like she could keep up. The crab rangoons tasted like they had been just sitting considering my cheese was cold and harder. A girl from the back with an Imperial Palace shirt on was laying in a booth on her phone and smelled of marijuana. There were kids running around and crying at the front where we paid. It was completely off setting how much the places overall experience has went downhill. I figured let me give it another go so we went with family last night, it was slower and we actually had the same waitress as we did on Mother's Day, she again was flustered and this time, the same kids were riding bikes in the dining room! The same girl working from before had bags in her hand coming from the back each time we got a nice sniff of marijuana again. WHAT KIND OF ESTABLISHMENT IS THIS NOW? Voted best in the region!?!? How??? Very very disappointed and probably won't ever recommend this place. read more

Cannot get orders right. Meals are never accurate. Food took forever to cook. Server did the best she could, considering. Management is incredibly rude when complaints are made. We will NEVER recommend this place to anyone. Save your money and go elsewhere. read more

My first visit. They have a large menu. We ordered appetizers and entree's. Egg rolls were lukewarm, entree was delicious. Friendly servers! The bathroom garbage was overflowing and could use a deep cleaning. I will visit again and try other dishes. They also have takeout. read more

This was the best place for Chinese food in Freeport. But for some reason they hit the proverbial wall and quality has taken a nosedive. Take out is always better. The servers care more about tip size, so they hover over larger group tables and forget a family of three. read more

Great food, wide variety in the menu, and great price. Loved the authentic atmosphere and music, right down to the plates. Oolong tea is complimentary. Lunch comes with egg-drop soup included. Service was extremely prompt and friendly. Will be going back. read more

I have lived in many areas throughout Illinois and Iowa, and this is by far the best Chinese restaurant I have ever been to. In fact, I would always make a point to eat here anytime I was in the area. I am so excited to be living here again, so I can enjoy their awesome food and service whenever I want! The General Tso's Chicken, Sesame Chicken, and Palace Chicken are my favorites, but the Mongolian Beef and Beef Lo Mein are great, too. They also have the BEST egg drop soup! Don't forget about the Bo Bo Platter - yum! If you aren't up for a whole platter, make sure to try the egg rolls and crab Rangoon...the best!! read more

The food is fantastic, but some of the wait staff are not customer oriented. They say it is family friendly, the wait staff last evening was far from family friendly! The waitress told a 21/2 year old child to sit down, be quiet and she would give her an etch a sketch! The child was excited about seeing fish in the aquarium and was taken by an adult to look at it, as children will do traced a line with her finger following the fish, we were given a very harsh look by the waitress, so we moved away from the tank. However, there were two girls ages 4 to 6 age range banging on the sides of the tank and being loud as kids are...nothing was done about that. Various other things happened during the evening, one waitress was pulling a group through an almost empty dining room to a table and told us to move the little one who was standing between two adults seated our table. There was more that happened during the evening, too numerous to mention here. Wait staff needs to be better trained in "Guest" services and in handling children. Would I recommend this place to a family with small children or anyone with a gifted child? No, the staff is rude Heaven help the children if these women have any especially if they are less than perfect! read more

I have eaten at the Imperial Palace a number of times over the years. Kind of hit and miss as far as good food, never anything to rave about but ok for a change. Sometimes not as good as others sometimes the service is lacking, sometimes the food is not as hot as it should be. My last visit and I do mean my last, I bit into a rock that was in my MooShu Shrimp. The rock was about 1/4"x 3/8" of an inch and I really hurt one of my teeth. I called the waitress over and showed her the rock, she never asked if I was alright but instead said she couldn't do anything for me because the owner wasn't there. Please note I never asked her for anything I just pointed out that there was a rock in my food. I did take a picture of the rock sitting in one of their tea cups and gave her my phone number but no one ever called. Luckily by the next day my tooth felt better, it wasn't chipped, I think I jammed it in the socket, good thing I have tough teeth. My point is that I wasn't looking for anything as long as my tooth was not damaged but no one ever called to see if I was alright. At this time I would question the cleanliness of the restaurant and responsibility of the owner/management. It appears that a customer is on their own if anything should happen while dining at the Imperial Palace. Ok, first off, I grew up in the Northwest suburbs of Chicago then moved to Chicago. I've spent my life spoiled and surrounded by yummy Chinese places. My husband and I met in Chicago and he used to talk about the best Chinese he ever had was in Freeport, near where he grew up. Honestly, I thought he was full of it. The snobby city girl in me felt there was no way there was better Chinese food in Western IL...I mean, it's practically Iowa. ;) And then he took me to Imperial Palace on a trip to visit his family. I ate my words. I've never been able to find crab rangoon like this anywhere else...amazingly delicious. I dream about it. There sesame chicken is also my favorite. Between us and his family we've tasted so many different things on the menu and really haven't found anything that wasn't good. Over the last 8 years, anytime we go visit his family, an Imperial Palace trip must be made. It's mandatory. read more

I have been eating at Imperial Palace for most of my teenage and now young adult life, and I have always loved it. I had gone away to college and am now back in the area. Let me tell you now I do not love it. The two things that I would still order from Imperial are their crab rangoons and cheese sticks, which are actually tasty appetizers, and are easy to eat. I am vegetarian and have tried the vegetarian "delight" twice now, I had given them a second chance on the dish and I was let down again. Their fried tofu is a pre-fried food product, and was burnt, dry and un edible. The positive note was the owners wife and my server were happy to accomodate and make me a new one, and I have no complaints on customer service, they are always happy to help. But... after they showed me the product they said they can do fresh cut steamed instead, and I went for it, and yes it was better than the dead fried tofu, but it was not seasoned tofu and was a little too wet. The mushrooms were great in the dish, but the baby carrots tasted like a tin can and the fried rice is a frozen food product as well, and was luke warm and bland. I was hoping for some great chinese food as I had remembered it, but was met with a place that is cutting so many corners in the kitchen. I will be back for the tea, atmosphere and the two appetizers, but not for anything else. read more
