The gentlemen that run this business - and I do mean gentlemen - are fantastic. They were kind and informative and very helpful. I came in needing data transferred from one external hard drive (that I thought was faulty) to another new one. About 1/2 hour later, they called and said both were fine and that I could save myself the money by transferring the data myself. That's unheard of in today's world - where a business actually looks out for their customer. And on my way out, I looked around at some of their refurbished computers and wow, the prices are amazing. While I like to support small businesses....let me just say wow! I brought in my son's laptop to this store to have the hinge fixed. The folks there mistakenly broke the screen as they were fixing the hinge and tried to order a new screen. I called them every week to get an update (they never called to give me an update ever ) and the response I always received from them was..."the part will be in... any day now". Weeks turned in to months (again I always had to call them for updates). The whole time my son kept asking me every week, "where is my laptop daddy? After about 5 months of this BS, I just went to BestBuy and bought him a new laptop. In the interim, I was curious how long this fiasco would continue...well 1.5 years later (yes you read that correctly one and a half years later) I went into the store to get back my son's computer (which has personal data on it). It actually took the person in the store 15 minutes to even find it, and I had to actually help him find the computer. The person in the store told me he would refund me for the hinge repair (woopie) as I was staring at my son's $1,000+ dollar laptop that they broke and was now non-functional and in about 10 different pieces. Realizing he could see how pissed I was (and me biting my tongue and keeping to myself what I wanted to actually tell him but my young son was right next to me), he promptly said "I don't know what to do!". As I was thinking in my head (maybe close your store because you are incompetent ) and then he said...well we have only $50 in the store...again a $1,000+ computer that they broke. Realizing that it would be a waste of my time and energy to take these f#$% ers to small claims court, I just left (with my son and the computer in parts of course). read more

I bought my first PC over 30 years ago and being an expert heavy user, have dealt with many repair services over the decades. Two small companies stand way above all the rest -- one back in Broward County, where I used to live, and Impact Computers here in Gainesville. They work fast and smart, and I never flinched at their quotes, which are fair and honest. Impact just finished with some followup work related to a surprise hard drive crash and now the machine works perfectly. Yes, I had to reinstall the programs/apps, but lost no data, thanks to my obsessive backing up to external drives (Acronis & Second Copy) and a cloud service (IDrive). Impact is hard to find; they're on the back side of a strip center and invisible from SW 2nd Avenue, but only a quarter-mile west of 34th Street. I hope never to need Impact again in the future, but stuff happens, so I'll need them. read more

My iPad is in need of repair, but it is expensive to fix considering I have a laptop that I can use. I just don't remember the password. I chose to inquire with this place because it is rated number one on Yelp! Even though their website did not mention Apple products at all, it did however say they repair all brands. When I walked in the older gentleman was very nice and greeted me pleasantly. He said he would get his other associate to see what they could do. I attempted to explain the situation to the younger, slender guy, but it was like he already knew what was wrong. I couldn't finish a sentence. He kept interrupting me every time I spoke until I let him have the floor. After he was done, he asked me again what the problem was. I told him and also what I have tried. He said that Apple doesn't make it where you can easily reset the password anymore without knowing the password. Huh? I mentioned the YouTube videos I watched and that it just wasn't working for me. He said he would need to wipe my laptop to factory and it would be roughly $150. He would contact me when it is ready. I began filling out the paperwork and then I asked him if he knew how to fully and completely turn off Autofill on the iPhone because some websites won't validate email addresses that auto fill. He said that I needed to contact my email company. Now I know from work it's an actual security measure. He said autofill doesn't exist anymore. I asked then, why is the feature in my phone and may I show him. He said if I know how to do it why am I asking him? By no means am I tech savvy, so when I turned auto fill off, it was not turning completely off. Something somewhere was still on because some things were still auto populating and some weren't. My thought process was maybe if he looked at my phone and played with it a little bit he could figure it out. It was at that moment when I realized there's a million places I can get assistance. As I sat in the parking lot, I said a little prayer of gratitude. Had I not asked him one more question, I would have spent $150 for something that I'm now skeptical is necessary. I don't doubt the owners are nice people, but someone needs to teach the young man the difference between dialogue and dialog. Especially in front of other customers. read more

They have helped me out several times - sluggish computer, broken cord, shopping for a new computer. They have always been honest and helpful. I brought in a broken cord and asked if they could order a new one for me. Instead, they had a spare in the back and simply gave it to me....no charge. I bought a desktop computer from them 7 years ago and had them custom design the preinstalled programs so that I didn't waste memory for things I would never use (high def gaming, etc.) Not only did I get exactly what I wanted, it cost me much less than if I had bought from a big box store. Now the old computer needs to be replaced and I am going back there for a new one. I highly recommend them. read more

Had a computer with a broken CPU on it. I had the new part, but got a little gun shy and didn't really want foo with it (it was my fault the CPU broke in the first place). I brought my laptop in for repairs at first they thought the hard drive was bad and the jack definitely was bad. They replaced both of them but it turned out the motherboard was bad so they exchanged my laptop for another laptop that was slightly more expensive than the cost of the repairs at no additional cost. My computer randomly wouldn't turn on the other day so I decided to Google some Computer Repair shops around town. After calling a shop that couldn't fix my computer they actually recommended Impact Computers to me. I called the shop and spoke to Craig who invited me to come in. Inside the shop was David (I believe that was his name) who greeted me extremely friendly. He took a look at my computer and discovered that there was actually no problem at all. I took up about 20-30 mins of his time and they did not charge me a cent. Not to mention, he was extremely pleasant to talk to the entire time I was there. I spilled water on my Macbook pro - surprisingly everything on the computer was running just fine except for the headphone jack - as water had gotten in there too. I took my computer to Impact immediately to try to replace a part or see what i could do about the broken sound. They recommended I turn my computer completely off for 2 days, and if nothing was fixed, come back to see them. I was shocked when I turned my computer on two days later and the speakers worked again! I will be going to Impact Computers for any future tech needs. Thank you! read more

This place is a joke & a bunch of crooks! I took my laptop here for a quick diagnostic because it would no longer power on. After not hearing back from anyone for a few days I decided to go in person and inquire about the analysis. When I brought my work-order ticket in the employee behind the counter said it was not back in the workroom. "Uhhh, okay - what do you mean it's 'not there?!?' I just brought it in 3 days ago" "It may have been moved to our Newberry location, try there" (I guess calling for me was too much to ask). I drove across town to the other location to speak to the manager - who told me he'd look into it and get back to me. ...a few more days pass... I drive in again only to get another run around. After quite a few trips out of my way to go in person for some answers I FINALLY get the "real story" (or at least the one they told the police so they could commit insurance fraud or whatever scam they were trying to pull). Long story short, I guess an employee stole a bunch of laptops and disappeared. I kept getting the run-around for weeks before someone finally admitted their lack of control for other people's property...and the only reason I even got the manager to cough it up was because I went to the police station on my own time and asked if anyone had filed a police report recently against this place. I had to do my own investigation and confront the business about it! ...a few more weeks pass... I did everything short of actually taking this place to court. They never assumed liability, never really even took full blame, and never compensated me for MY property that was stolen while in THEIR possession...not even store credit for their absurdly overpriced merchandise. I was flat out robbed from Impact Computers. So much for customer service. I've been out of Gvil for a while now so I don't even know if this place is still around, but if it is - please do yourself a favor and do not patronize this business...unless you want your property to mysteriously go missing and are SOL. read more

I won't buy from this vendor again! This company appears to practice unethical and illegal BAIT & SWITCH sales practices. Purchased small computer cable online and paid by paypal - vendor paid, acknowledgement email sent by vendor. 1 week later, I receive a phone message and email from Julissa in Sales telling me that the price had gone up and I had to pay more to get the product- AFTER THE SALE WAS COMPLETE. Not honest. Purchased 4 NEW inkjet cartridges. Although my credit card was charged for all 4 cartridges, I only received 2. Of the two received, the ink cartridges were NOT NEW and had expired in 2002 (9 years prior). Of the one I did try to install, the ink was dried and unusable. I attempted several times to connect with the company by e-mail with not response received. Given company was not responsive, I elevated the dispute through PayPal to obtain a refund. After 2 months and incurring additional shipping cost to return the one unopened package, I received a full refund, minus my shipping cost to return unused product. Company is not honest in their advertising and not responsive. I will never shop this company or any of their related companies again. Buyer beware! read more

What "Greg S." said below and then some... Some mistakes you never stop paying for. Mistake #1: We took our 3yr old Dell d2410 to Impact Computer on 91st for a seemingly minor system cleanup (mostly malware & an IE bump) and never saw it again. That's the bottom line. They said it was fixed, charged us $147 for the privilege and sent it along. Completely dead when I got it home (screen saver only) so after several phone calls and retrys I took it back to them. Mistake #2. Almost at once they called again, said it was working in their shop ("John Brewer"). I went in and stood in the shop with him, watched the d2410 be functional on their bench and him act like there was nothing wrong. Not one word as I recall it, about what could've been hanging the system. My guess is they found something small the tech had overlooked and were eager to cover it up. When I demanded an adjustment, for their error and my inconvenience, he refused to pay. I threatened to go to court but never did. Looking back on it now, I should have. Mistake #3. Also, not that you would but don't be suckered in by the faith-based proprietorship rap. It's a front, making them no different than any other going concern here in Gainesville, only less honest about it. That was my experience anyway. You've been warned. read more

Because of that, I was able to remove and install a new hard-drive myself and get my computer up and running again. DO NOT SHOP HERE! We ordered a part, they sent the wrong one. After contacting them to let them know, they sent a return shipping label to us but only after many requests did they send one. This also was a fight since they did not think they should pay for return shipping. They credit our credit card for the cost of the part only, not the original shipping. When they sent the correct part, they charged us for shipping again. We made several attempts to get them to correct this. Per my conversation on 9/14/11 he said absolutely they would NOT be refunding our money for the original shipping ($10.15). He said they had already paid the shipper and he could not get his money back from them so he would not refund ours (keep in mind, they sent the wrong part to begin with). He also said "it was a company rule to not refund shipping charges and rules were not to be broken. If we started breaking rules we would lose money. It clearly states on our website that there is no refund for shipping. This includes if we send out the wrong part." I wish I had read the other posts before buying from Impact Computers. They are dishonest and unethical. Not only are they getting a very negative review, they have lost a customer for life......all over $10.15.
