Best dim sum place in south shore. Service is prompt and foods are on the spot. Nicely decorated spacious interior can accommodate big parties in an ease. Would recommend.

We tried the har gow, siu mai, beef honeycomb tripe, cha siu cheung fun, steamed bean curd roll and a fried shrimp pancake. The food in general is not bad, maybe one of the better ones in Montreal but doesn't really measure up to what's available in the GTA. The honeycomb tripe was probably the best. The cheung fun (rice noodle rolls) we got have a thick and not very bouncy rice noodle and the cha siu was bland. Service is pretty good.

    Fried sesame balls. It's wonderful

Food is excellent. Comfortable seating and spacious. Service is good. This establishment beats what we have in NYC and NJ by a mile, better than what we tried some restaurants in HK, Toronto and Vancouver

So happy to know this resto is coming to South shore from Montreal! For those people who don't know here's a little backstory this restaurant was first located in Chinatown not sure what happened but they are moving from chinatown to South Shore and will be closing their location in Chinatown. They are still in process of getting their in dining fixed so therefore you can only do takeout and delivery. We ordered the peeking duck, steamed chicken, beef with black bean sauce, salt and pepper squid,Fried chicken and shrimp with mayo. Overall the prices a little more elevated than some other Chinese restaurants but the taste is better! The peeking duck was good crispy - there is 2 parts to the duck. The skin was good but the second part was a little too oily but other than that everything was good The steamed chicken is very good! The only down side was the trouble I had ordering with the person on the phone since he didn't really speak English but that ok. Im definitely ordering here from now on and I can't wait till the indoor dining is open!

I was so, so sad when I found out they were closing up their Chinatown location..they were probably the best dim sum place around! But finally I was able to try out their new location in Brossard. They don't really take reservations...it's a free for all - first come first serve! Some say the chaos is part of the experience. You basically get in, and grab a number from the lady who is hollering in the waiting area (I'm not exaggerating, she's got some impressive vocal cords that a metal band would appreciate!), and try to seat yourself amongst the jostling crowd of families. The wait time can be long but it seems they are quite efficient and soon we were on our way to a table. Oh, the smells are so good it's almost torturous to wait. The menu is online so you connect to their wifi, then browse and order through their system. The food is as good as I remembered. We ordered so many delicious things - I especially loved the beef tripe and the beef assorted offal. The other dim sum staples like the hargao were great too. We had a few left over dumplings that we packed up to go. The only thing that wasn't good was the vegetarian bean curd roll - way too greasy and had a weird aftertaste. But everything else was great. Next door they have a bbq takeout counter and the man behind the counter is so friendly - he even gave us a taste of the roasted pork for free. Love that kind of service!

Tasty supper where we ordered 10 different dishes, ranging from salted fish fried rice, three noodle dishes, pork chops, pepper beef, veggie dish, fried seafood etc. Only the fried udon tasted a bit burnt, otherwise the rest was delicious and not too salty!

What I didn't know at the time is: (1) they also have NYC locations, including their U.S. flagship 1/2 block from Tonii's, one of my favorite Chinatown cheap eats and (2) Yin Ji Chang Fen's chains origin is in Guangzhou in 1958... and that location still exists! So, it was a must try! Glad we stopped by and would recommend it for a try, especially if you are looking for a convenient bite while on Ste. Catherine Oeste. (Note - Did not get the chance to check out other steamed rice roll places in Montreal, but will definitely do on my next trip.) About the restaurant experience... while they have printed menus, you use the QR code on the table to order, although there was a helpful waiter to assist. We ordered a fresh Shrimp with Chives and a Roasted Duck with Chives Steamed Rice Roll. Peanut sauce needed to be ordered as an extra. They provide complementary hot tea. (You can also order a can of Chinese iced tea.) Yin Ji Chang Fen's rolls were delicious, especially the roast duck! The sauces added make the rolls even more vibrant. Note - Didn't get the chance to check out other Montreal steamed rice roll places, but will definitely do on my next trip. Also at one point back home, will also check out their N.Y. Chinatown location to compare. To add, Congee appears to be another Yan Ji specialty, however it's not something I typically order.

Old School Cantonese food in the heart of Montreal's Chinatown…read more It's been a while since I've had complimentary pork bone and vegetable soup and seen white plastic sheeted table tops for easy cleanup. LOL. Portions are family style so bring a group with you to share. Salt and Pepper Pork Chop - easily the best dish, great crunch and great flavor. Snow peas sautéed with Garlic was clean, fresh and crunchy. Garlic flavor wasn't overly done. Beef Stew over Baby Bok Choy was tender and beefy. The Baby Bok Choy was hidden underneath in my picture, but it was there. There was also beef tendons as well which I always enjoy. Salt and Pepper Squid was a huge portion and similar to Pork, very crunchy. This was a huge portion. Got seated right away in a packed restaurant on a Friday evening. Service was quick and friendly (except for one dude who took exception to me want to pack my own leftovers). LOL.

I was expecting a more flavored experience and maybe that is not what they do or I could have ordered differently. The menu is huge so it is hard to know where to start. We went here because of the good Yelp reviews. Were we arrived in Chinatown there were many other places that looked great, so we loitered at the door for a minute while deciding what to do. As we loitered a family came out and noticed us and asked if were were going to Keung Kee. We said we were thinking about it and they said just go, it is the best restaurant in Chinatown. Sold. We went in, up the stairs, waited a bit, and got a table. This is the kid of place you need to bring a lot of people because that is whet it is built for, the menu is extensive, and the portions are huge. We puzzled over the menu then ordered our food. We wanted a bottle of cold sake and the waiter brought it in an ice bucket. Nice. We started with the pork dumplings. The dumplings were very goof but came in a hot thick sweet peanut sauce. With a lighter sauce these would have been outstanding. The scallop was huge and had a bunch of stuff on it. There was some good scallop flavor but it was masked with all the stuff that tasted like old oil. The noodle dish was good but also had some old oil flavor coming from somewhere. All the meats and vegetables were nice and fresh but the good sauce I think was the source of the oil. We saw a table next to us had the pork chops and was asked, what are those? So we got that too. The chops were thin bone in with a batter fried then soaked in a vinegar sauce. These would have been good as our only item with a bowl of rice. Our co-eaters there had many good looking things. I would give this a try again but would bring a few more people so we could try more stuff. Total for all that including the sake was $100 Canadian. Not bad!

If you are at the Palais de Congres,…read more Keep Cuisine Cantonaise on your radar. It is only two blocks from the convention center. The food offerings in the Palais itself are super-weak. Unlike most other cities, there are not a ton of fast food places near the convention center to service the congress attendees. But strangely, while most convention center restaurants are super-packed during a congress, Cuisine Cantonaise is 80 percent empty. There are always tables available. And this is despite the fact that the food on Cuisine Cantonaise is really good. I don't know why this is happening, but I ain't arguing. I ate here five times and was happy each and every time. * * * The cooking is Old School Cantonese. A distinctive feature is that the house is not big on sauces. They like their food plain or with a simple Chinese white sauce. (That nearly invisible stuff that makes the food shiny.) The white sauce is fine. They also do a sweet and sour like sauce that is absolutely excellent. The food you get will be unadorned or with one of those two sauces. Some items get a light sprinkling of black beans. * * * When you serve your food "up close and naked" like that, the basic ingredients have to be pretty darn good. Their basic ingredients are pretty darn good. Everything I ate was good - but the star dish of the week was something they called "Cantonese Chow Mein". I am sure it has another name in real Cantonese. This was a dry crispy noodle nest with white sauced Chinese vegetables and chicken on top. I could eat that all day and all night. But I never ate a bad dish there in five meals with two to six dishes ordered at every meal. The menu is vast - although not as big as it seems - since many of the plates are quite similar. For the record, the team of men and women who work here are ancient ... I believe the restaurant goes back a long way. In Canada, Chinese food shows up in two forms. There is Chinatown food that captures a first generation of Chinese-Canadian cuisine. It is in the old centers of Chinese residence of the early twentieth century. Cuisine Cantonaise is of this Old School. Canada is enjoying a delightful insurgence of young Chinese techies, professionals, and children of wealthy families back in China. They are young, hip and spend heavily on urban amenities. Their first rate restaurants are out of the traditional Chinatowns, in the new chic neighborhoods where they have apartments. I personally prefer the younger generation's choices in food and restaurants. But I can be induced to go traditional. When a traditional restaurant is near my convention - and it has a lot of seats and is good - count me in. If you are at the Palais, you should count yourself in too.

Watch out as this area is going to be like a downtown Laval! Entering the restaurant on a weekday lunch hour it was not very busy and. I had a nice quiet booth to myself. I perused the menu and decided to go with my Chinese comfort food classic Cantonese chow mein. Growing up in a mix ethnic household. CCM was a staple of heading out for dinner when we ate Chinese food. Starting off my meal came with a soup so I had selected their hot n sour soup. Flavour was lacking a little of the hot so I requested sriracha to bring up the flavour. Next was the CCM. The serving was done in typical fashion. Fried noodles with a thick somewhat gluey translucent yet tasty sauce. The dish had a generous serving of vegetables and lots of shrimp. Overall it was a good sized lunch portion and I was satisfied. Pricing on their menu is quite inexpensive and they had a good selection. Yelper friend Jason mentioned he wants to come back for their $14.99 AYCE lunch buffet. My comments to him is "I'm trying to eat less food than more food these days". I'm trying to avoid buffets as I have little self control. Usually I leave eating far too much food! Maybe one day we shall come for this. Time will tell and a review update shall be had if this happens. Until then. I shall look to order takeout sometime as these people know real deal Chinese cooking. I asked the guy working there if they were mainland or HK. He mentioned mainland which is my test to see if they are from the old country or somewhere else. Well done and good inexpensive Chinese!

The carts come out slowly and increase in number about every 15 minutes or so, and items seem to come out in a predictable order. You're given a small ramekin with a spicy sauce and mustard in it, which for me is sufficient. I don't feel the need for soy sauce for dim sum, nor is it on the table and has to be requested. One thing I liked is that the cost of items appear on the card for each row, so that you can maintain a rough idea of how much your meal has cost so far. The other thing I liked is the atmosphere. It was very friendly and relaxed, and I noticed many of the staff waving to individuals as they entered, probably regulars. While they didn't have necessarily the variety of offerings I've had at other dim sum restaurants, the overall experience was quite enjoyable and worth considering on future visits to Montreal.
