I really love IMO's pizza. And to be honest with you, I would say that this pizza in my opinion, being original St. Louis style pizza, and being the namesake and best at what it is, it would be worth a five out of five stars. However, I have one annoying complaint that makes me deduct a star on this. I live in the neighborhood very close by, and I tend to order Imo's for parties, making rather large and expensive orders (by comparison to their normal ticket price). The pizza is always great. No complaints there. However, every time I make an order, I get a very high-pressure sales tactic from the person who answers the phone, who always sounds to be the same person. they're always trying to pressure me into tipping more money, on a pre-delivery tip, and they will spend the next two minutes on the phone after the order is already done trying to convince me why 10% to drive two blocks on a $250 order is just not enough tip, and I should really tip more ahead of time because it goes to the staff, and kitchen, and yada yada. And frankly, I find that disturbing, because if everybody tipped 20% on the $250 order for a driver, the driver would earn more than I do and I had to go to multiple degrees in order to earn what earn, and I have a family and don't need to give away my money to everybody who wants it. And frankly, I just don't think that a driver needs to be earning that much money to drive two freaking blocks. And so if you would stop all the high-pressure sales, honestly, I almost never tip less than 20% on anything, you would probably actually get the kind of tip you want if you didn't freaking piss me off every time I called, and if you just shut your mouth and let me tip when the driver arrives and never said a word about it. Stop being jerks. Rant over. But that's why you're not five star: terrible customer service. High pressure handouts kill your value. read more

Meh.... Ordered through Uber eats. We ordered a cheese pizza, provelle bites, boneless wings, and a small Caesar salad. First off, I ordered Caesar dressing with my salad and they forgot it. The Caesar itself was not a Caesar at all. Bagged tossed salad mix, no romaine lettuce. Iceberg, carrots and purple cabbage were what they gave me. The boneless wings had no flavor, we ordered ranch on the side they gave us blue cheese. The pizza and cheese bites were pretty good. Store-bought frozen Texas toast would have been way better. The Dominoes down Cherry Street at national would have been way better. It was so bad I don't even want to think about it anymore. Imo's pizza is a love it or hate place for many people. If you're from St Louis...this has been injected in your system since birth...and you love it. But if you're not from STL and wonder if you'll like it...you can think of it this way: Are you one that enjoys different kinds of cheeses? Then I would guess you'll not have a problem with the somewhat different taste of provel being used...and it's smoother consistency texture. Are you one that thinks Kraft macaroni and cheese is great tasting and really great cheese? If so, then this kind of pizza likely isn't for you. Or...are you one that has Rain Man like pattens to your life? Again...this place isn't for you. But if you like the thin cracker like crust pizza. Good tasting sauce and ingredient pizza. I will start by saying, I rarely review things that I am dissatisfied with. It's just not my standard. But I needed to post this because it was by far the worst pizza I have ever had. We had already had a turmoil filled day with my father being rushed by ambulance to the hospital. So I will preface by saying we were REALLY EXCITED ABOUT THIS! And had heard a lot of good things about this restaurant. The service was speedy. We got our order within 15 minutes of placing it. Which we were so excited about! We have heard so many good things about this place so my husband and I thought this was a great start! The driver was friendly, he did have to run back cause he forgot our drink! We ordered the extra large cheese pizza, 2 salads, cheesy bread and soda. When we opened the box, the pizza looked like it had been dropped. Several slices had slide around and the cheese as no longer on it. We tasted it and it was difficult to describe what it tasted like. The edge pieces were not bad so I managed to eat those. My husband, who loves pizza was not able to eat any of what we ordered. We opened the cheesy bread and tasted it. The bread was so crispy that it crumbled in my mouth. It was not at all what we had envisioned. I never got to eating my salad. I was so sadly disappointed. We chose not to complain to the store. We have just chosen not to eat here again. It's really too bad. We wanted to find a local pizza place that was close to home because my husband LOVES PIZZA. And will order it 2 times a week! This place is really good! We dined in and got the fried ravioli and a 14in pepperoni pizza. both items came out in a good amount of time and very fresh. Both were very good and I would order again! Just as with barbecue, there are many different regional styles of pizza--the best known being New York and Chicago styles. However, St. Louis has its own distinct style as well, the hallmarks being a very thin crust and the use of provel (a blend of provelone, swiss, and white cheddar) cheese rather than mozzarella. To those who have never tried it, and who might come in expecting something more like "ordinary" pizza, the St. Louis style can be very off-putting. In a food that is so deeply ingrained into the American psyche as pizza, "different" can all too often register as "wrong." But for those open to a new experience, St. Louis style pizza can be very tasty. This Imo's is the location near my house, and I will sometimes stop in to eat a pizza there or take one home. I usually get either pepperoni or double pepperoni, but sometimes will go for a supreme. I find that the service is good and the prices are reasonable, and I enjoy the way the smooth, creamy cheese and the sweet sauce blend together to make a unique flavor all their own. However, this may not be to everyone's taste, and I suggest starting with a small pie to see whether or not you like it. read more

This is the first pizza place in Springfield I ate at, and according the a review I'm seeing off to the right, Imos is the originator of what's known as "St. Louis style" pizza. As you can see from the rating, I'm not impressed. Firstly, I'm glad that I now know--from that review off to the right--that St. Louis-style pizza skips mozzarella for something called "provel," but that doesn't make it good. Real pizza has mozzarella cheese, long gooey, stringy cheese that holds the toppings to the crust, gets pulled when pick up a piece, and has a certain consistency that defines pizza. I'm pretty sure this is why most people eat pizza, because it's their favorite toppings covered in this delicious substance. This provel stuff, on the other hand, just seems to sit on top of some of the toppings, and Imos in particular--compared to other places I've been--purposely leaves their pizzas in until the provel is dark brown, what I would easily define as "overdone." If everyone else's pizza didn't have this dark brown stuff randomly sprinkled on top of their pies, I would have thought they burnt mine and just didn't tell me. So, throw in the paltry cheese with the St. Louisy thin crust and good toppings and you have a pizza-like item that's not bad by any means, but at the same time, isn't something I'll go back for. Did I enjoy it? Probably, as opposed to lima beans or broccoli puffs. Is it better than an average frozen pizza? Nope, not close--I'd take a Tombstone any day of the week over this, for a third the cost. I'm probably going to come off as being hard on local pizza due to my Chicago origins, but really, there's better St. Louis pizza in town than this. I guess if you're near campus, it's convenient, but otherwise, pizza-like isn't pizza. read more

First of all, I didn't grow up in St. Louis. I didn't grow up eating Imo's. Now that that is out of the way, you DON'T need to have grown up in STL to enjoy Imo's. Imo's is not a traditional pizza experience of any sort. First of all, it is served on thin crust. People who grow up eating New York or Chicago style tend to have an aversion to thin crust. I understand that. But I don't really look at Imo's as pizza. Sure, it is dough, sauce and cheese. But it's very much it's own thing. And you may not like that thing. I would highly suggest eating Imo's with toppings. Thin crust isn't very good with just cheese. Put your favorite toppings on there. The provel is also pretty divisive. Some like it. Some don't. I personally enjoy it and it's the main draw for me with an Imo's pizza. If the cheese isn't to you liking then there isn't really anything that can be done. So hopefully you can put your preconceptions of what pizza is supposed to be in the back of your mind and think of Imo's as a singularity. read more

I got a pizza from Imo's on Tuesday this February 2, 2016 ate some of the pizza got sick. Called the next day to let them know. I hear under the ladies breath on the phone when I'm telling her that I got sick from the pizza (I don't think so)and talk to the young man that made the pizza he starts making excuses. I guess I should start off by saying that I'm not from St. Louis and this was my first foray into STL-style pizza. I can't say I'm the biggest fan of St. Louis style pizza, but I will say that it's definitely not like anything else I've ever had. I do enjoy the crust, the sauce is different, but the cheese is just a bit too much. Synthetic would be my word of choice here. With the right toppings, it's pretty good though. I like mushrooms in particular. Their salads are a good complement as well. So, why four stars? Because my personal taste in pizza doesn't negate the fact that the staff at Imo's is always nice, prompt and clean. I've never been inconvenienced, hassled or treated like I'm anything less than a favorite customer there. For that alone, I can eat pizza I find strange with minimal complaints. read more
