Perhaps you'd be able to unlock it after writing 500 reviews, like some sort of yelp/super mario hybrid. Alfresco Tonight is described best by the creators as: "Alfresco brings together old friends, with new, celebrating great food, public space, spontaneity, and surprise. In a flash mob fashion, diners meet, set up, share food, and dismantle. The location is kept secret till the evening prior. Part slow food, part art installation, Alfresco is an urban curiosity." The creators of Alfresco are aiming to encourage local consumption, a heightened appreciation of the outdoors, increased community together-ly-ness, delicious eating, and sustainability via the 'leave no trace' motto. Find me something NOT to love about this concept. The most recent Alfresco night took place at the Davie Street community garden. Little tea lights glimmered while folks from all walks chatted merrily amongst autumn leaves. Some were even able to boast about the fruits of their own garden plot. Something about bringing people together in this way is just really wonderful. How often do you share a meal with someone new, or eat something totally unheard of only to find out it's manna. All this while gaining a deeper appreciation for the city and those locally sourced items that can be found right at our fingertips? So what do you say, Halifax? Who wants to try this Van based trend and picnic with me? :) ps: this event is free other than the cost of creating your own pot-latch style dish!

If you order the combo, you order your choice of meat, soup base, carb (rice or noodles), and drink all for $20-25! This is excellent value for how much food you're getting and I always leave full! Also stomach ache free which typically happens to be the case when I go to other hot pot establishments :D

Several people who walked in had to wait at least 30 minutes. The service is quick and efficient, and they are fast and attentive with our requests or clearing our plates. The interior is a bit on the older side and outdated looking, and it can definitely feel muggy inside with all the continuously bubbling hot pots. I ordered the Beef Blade Eye Hot Pot Combo ($19.95) and I think it's a great deal. It comes with a plate of meat, a bunch of vegetables and side items like fish balls, tofu, shrimp, etc., choice of rice, udon or vermicelli, a drink, and a soft serve! I chose to get the udon, a yakult green tea, and the taro soft serve. The ingredients are decently fresh and everything is so efficient. I feel like you can't go wrong for all these things and at this price!

I recently went to Metrotown with my kids and we were thrown into the throes of pre-Christmas mayhem in the mall. I knew it would be bad when the parking lot was a free-for-all with no spots to be had. But I digress. While wandering the mall corridors like zombies out of a bad Netflix movie, my kids suddenly claimed to be "starving". Of course. So we made our way up to the food court on the upper level and surveyed the options in front of us. It's never easy trying to accommodate both my kids, who have very differing preferences (one is vegetarian, too), and myself, but we all agreed to "eat healthy", and when we saw the long line-up at this U-Grill place, we decided to check it out. It was obviously the most popular food venue in the food court on the day we were there, and we figured there must be a reason it's so popular. They offered a ton of fresh vegetable and meat and seafood choices, as well as tofu and various rices, which you choose in raw form, and they essentially stir-fry it up for you, and then you choose what sauce you'd like on it. It's priced by weight, and there really are a ton of choices. I don't think you could find a healthier option here at in the food court. I like how they offered Coke products too (personal bias. I prefer it to Pepsi). Service wasn't friendly or non-friendly - just fast and efficient. They were super busy that day we were here, and we were glad they didn't chit chat with customers. Did I mention my kids were "starving"? lol. Despite the long line, it moved quickly and our meals were cooked perfectly and were great. This is the place to go to get a healthy and fast meal here. It's not cheap, but it's good.

They have ALL types of veggies from broccoli, zucchini, baby corn, green beans and my personal favorite mushrooms! They also have a variety of meats from teriyaki chicken, beef, crab, shrimp and also tofu. It also comes with your choice of white or whole grain rice. Good thing is the don't weigh the rice that comes on the plate after. My only complaint is it's quite expensive for "mall food". My partner and I each got our own plates and our total with only 1 water bottle was $39 and some change!!!! I did enjoy it and would go again but I'd be more careful on loading on those veggies which was the majority of my plate.

Boring, tasteless and sad portions!). I have been disappointed with many of the services in Vancouver until I saw real meals through a simple web search. Sarah makes all the meals herself, with help from her family. She is passionate about what she does, and she believes in keeping her quality consistent. We have made three orders so far for busy work weeks. The Shepard's pie is my favourite. The soups are hearty and great portions. We are happy with the quality of food, the delivery service and the ease at which we can order online. Finally, a food delivery service that doesn't get boring after one week. My only reservation is that they still have a limited menu, but I'm sure Sarah is working on it. Support this wholesome company.

I had never used a meal service before, so was unsure what to expect. The Good - Owner was amazingly pleasant. Great service, great on the phone. Food was like grama makes and everything is organic (if you care about that sort of thing). The Bad - After going onto the website and seeing some soups I'd like, I was let down by the unavailability. I'm guessing since it's a small family gig, they can't keep stock supplies up too high, but it was a real bummer not being able to get the stuff I wanted. Hopefully once they expand a bit this won't happen. Delivery was alright. She was a bit late from the scheduled time, but it wasn't like I was going anywhere fast. This service also comes at a pretty hefty price. The soups I would skip - almost $30 for a 2L tub of soup. I understand its a small family thing and they use organic, but... coming from someone who enjoys cooking... I would just make my own for a fraction of the cost. I would do the lasagna again however. Almost same price ($25 or so) and much more filling. Good to note - if you have a man in the house, disregard the suggested portion sizes. Their "individual" lasagna is only enough for one, not two servings.
