Cute little self serve salad bar with soup and fruit bar. Fresh ingredients, and very tasty. Highly recommend

I keep thinking I like Green Day because the variety means I can change it up everytime. But who am I kidding? I get the same thing every time.... a bit o EVERYTHING! Most salad bars just put out a bunch of raw, cut up fruit and vegetables which is blah. Green Day takes the time to prep it's offerings. The raw mushrooms are marinated so they don't taste like paper, and the mango pieces are tossed in sweet chili sauce. There's every kind of bean available, cold ham, eggs, and hot meats too. Salad bar? There's no shortage of protein here! I eat very well for under $10. Awesome.

Perhaps you'd be able to unlock it after writing 500 reviews, like some sort of yelp/super mario hybrid. Alfresco Tonight is described best by the creators as: "Alfresco brings together old friends, with new, celebrating great food, public space, spontaneity, and surprise. In a flash mob fashion, diners meet, set up, share food, and dismantle. The location is kept secret till the evening prior. Part slow food, part art installation, Alfresco is an urban curiosity." The creators of Alfresco are aiming to encourage local consumption, a heightened appreciation of the outdoors, increased community together-ly-ness, delicious eating, and sustainability via the 'leave no trace' motto. Find me something NOT to love about this concept. The most recent Alfresco night took place at the Davie Street community garden. Little tea lights glimmered while folks from all walks chatted merrily amongst autumn leaves. Some were even able to boast about the fruits of their own garden plot. Something about bringing people together in this way is just really wonderful. How often do you share a meal with someone new, or eat something totally unheard of only to find out it's manna. All this while gaining a deeper appreciation for the city and those locally sourced items that can be found right at our fingertips? So what do you say, Halifax? Who wants to try this Van based trend and picnic with me? :) ps: this event is free other than the cost of creating your own pot-latch style dish!

Several people who walked in had to wait at least 30 minutes. The service is quick and efficient, and they are fast and attentive with our requests or clearing our plates. The interior is a bit on the older side and outdated looking, and it can definitely feel muggy inside with all the continuously bubbling hot pots. I ordered the Beef Blade Eye Hot Pot Combo ($19.95) and I think it's a great deal. It comes with a plate of meat, a bunch of vegetables and side items like fish balls, tofu, shrimp, etc., choice of rice, udon or vermicelli, a drink, and a soft serve! I chose to get the udon, a yakult green tea, and the taro soft serve. The ingredients are decently fresh and everything is so efficient. I feel like you can't go wrong for all these things and at this price!

We went with the spicy soup base and the beef blade eye set. The broth had a nice chili kick and solid herbal aroma, though like most hot pot broths, it reduced down and got a little on the salty side by the end of the meal. The sliced beef was fresh with decent marbling, cooking up tender after just a quick dip, and the veggie basket and noodles made it plenty filling. Finishing off with their little cup of soft serve ice cream was a nostalgic, cooling touch after all the heat. Service was fast and functional. You mark down your order, and the trays of meat and vegetables arrived at the table within five to ten minutes. It gets quite busy during the evening rush, so flagging down a server for a broth refill took a bit of waving, but the staff were polite and kept the tables cleared efficiently. The space is casual and unpretentious, outfitted with dark wooden booths, frosted divider screens for a bit of privacy, and warm overhead pendant lighting. It gets noticeably steamy and fairly lively with chatter when the room fills up with families and students, giving it an easygoing neighborhood vibe.

I hadn't heard about Sooda until this August, when I stumbled upon an ad by a foodie influencer on…read moresocial media who tried the restaurant during their 10th anniversary sale. A lot of items were 30% off which is a pretty good discount considering a lot of their mains are $20-$50. Apparently Sooda is really hyped on google reviews and according to some people online, people line up out the door during the dinner rush. I came here on a friday afternoon near opening time at 12 for lunch with friends. There were only a couple tables occupied at the time. My friends ordered a bulgogi platter. According to the menu, it comes with beef marinated in bulgogi sauce served on a hot plate with cheese, green onions, house made egg-rolls, corn, and rice. It's usually a whopping $49 but with the special 30% anniversary discount it was only around $35 so it was definitely worth it. Our food came in a pretty good time in about 12-15 minutes. The melted cheese was SO GOOD. I love cheese but melted mozzarella is delicious. It's divine. The beef was tasty. I like the bulgogi sauce. It was meant to be mixed with the rice and egg rolls. If you just eat them separately, it's gonna be mid because they have little flavor on their own. I like that they included some small side dishes (banchan) to refresh your taste buds, such as kimchi and pickled radish. It was well needed for such a greasy and salty dish. I really like the vibe and the staff here. They had a couple k-pop music videos playing on the TV and k-pop and pop music playing in the background. The customers at the time seemed to have a good time here. They had some 10th birthday balloons and decorations all over the dining area too. The place is pretty dark with just enough lights and the walls are black which makes the vibe kind of cool. There are some interesting looking giant murals as well Our server was in a happy mood and all smiles. She liked to joke a lot with customers which was great to see. She was happy to answer any questions we had about the menu since it was our first time there. She was the only server at the time so she looked pretty busy. She refilled our waters and asked if everything was good so we felt taken care of. She said thank you, hi and goodbye to everyone in our group as well. Shout out to Seoyoung for being a great server! Washrooms are fine. As far as I know there's only 1 private men's washroom for the entire restaurant but it was pretty clean. A bit cluttered with cleaning supplies but it was clean and spacious. 5 out of 5 stars based on this visit. The 30% off 10th anniversary discount made it really worth coming for the price I paid. I hope they have similar promotions like that in the future. More importantly, the food and staff are great so it's worth checking out.

They didn't last long on the table with our group! The heaters weren't working properly on our table, so it took a few tries to get our cheese melted with the bulgogi. So they went ahead and pre-melted the cheese with the chicken before bringing it to the table. Not only was this mix tasty, it was fun scoop it across for our dish. I order a japchae to go, which was also delicious! (Unfortunately someone accidentally rested my to-go bag on a counter with grease before giving it to me, as I discovered later) The food was delicious and the staff were friendly. I would definitely come here again. (you can find me on Insta @aida.loves )

I recently went to Metrotown with my kids and we were thrown into the throes of pre-Christmas mayhem in the mall. I knew it would be bad when the parking lot was a free-for-all with no spots to be had. But I digress. While wandering the mall corridors like zombies out of a bad Netflix movie, my kids suddenly claimed to be "starving". Of course. So we made our way up to the food court on the upper level and surveyed the options in front of us. It's never easy trying to accommodate both my kids, who have very differing preferences (one is vegetarian, too), and myself, but we all agreed to "eat healthy", and when we saw the long line-up at this U-Grill place, we decided to check it out. It was obviously the most popular food venue in the food court on the day we were there, and we figured there must be a reason it's so popular. They offered a ton of fresh vegetable and meat and seafood choices, as well as tofu and various rices, which you choose in raw form, and they essentially stir-fry it up for you, and then you choose what sauce you'd like on it. It's priced by weight, and there really are a ton of choices. I don't think you could find a healthier option here at in the food court. I like how they offered Coke products too (personal bias. I prefer it to Pepsi). Service wasn't friendly or non-friendly - just fast and efficient. They were super busy that day we were here, and we were glad they didn't chit chat with customers. Did I mention my kids were "starving"? lol. Despite the long line, it moved quickly and our meals were cooked perfectly and were great. This is the place to go to get a healthy and fast meal here. It's not cheap, but it's good.

Good thing is the don't weigh the rice that comes on the plate after. My only complaint is it's quite expensive for "mall food". My partner and I each got our own plates and our total with only 1 water bottle was $39 and some change!!!! I did enjoy it and would go again but I'd be more careful on loading on those veggies which was the majority of my plate.

Unfortunately, the lobster roll was a letdown. It wasn't very warm, the lobster itself didn't have much flavor, tasted off and the whole sandwich was just kind of dry. Thank goodness I also ordered the prawn cocktail because it saved the meal. It wasn't anything fancy, but the prawns were a good size and gave me something I actually halfway enjoyed.
