As it turns out my ability to imagine was perhaps a bit lacking, as I required a second appointment in order to have additional work done in my home and it was again a truly extraordinarily pleasant and proficiently executed experience. I had the unique pleasure of meeting a second technician, Santiago ("Santi" I was informed, as he extended his hand in a warm salutation at my front door). Santi, was truly the sort of fellow that puts one at ease immediately, with his quick smile and a soft-spoken level of confident ease in his work. He fully understood the purpose of my appointment and explained prior to beginning the project, precisely what he would do and what the end result would be... When it comes to having new technology installed in your home, this is the "golden benchmark" you look for when a technician, unknown to you, arrives. His work was accomplished cleanly (highly respecting my home) and in a rather swift fashion. Now here's the thing to really take note of folks, although he precisely accomplished our goal for the day in less time than was expected... He didn't simply just say "thanks" and take off. Really nice guy who knew his stuff, but didn't know this system. It was literally his first time looking at it. He went at it with confidence and got the speakers set, despite the speaker stands missing. When it got time to program it to use he had to just work his way through it. It took more time to get the speakers to turn on right that the installation. They are top of the line speakers, and a great central system. But with the speaker stand situation and feeling hung out to dry on service, it hurt a little.

She earned extra gold stars for her responsiveness every time I called and patience with my numerous questions. Tasha and her manager, Rey, put together the perfect package that fit my needs. The scheduling coordinator, Renee, was very friendly and professional when she called to notify me, confirming day and time. Here is the problem: Vector seems to have changed its internal corporate structure. Perhaps this was the result of being "bought out," changes in technology, changes in management or just plain incompetence. Certainly, the concept of a hard wired security system for the mass market has suffered against "do-it-yourself" products like Simply Safe. However, the challenge of competition is no excuse for continuing medicrity. Start with Vector's "hold like" channel. After a 3-key phone pass to "If you have an ongoing alarm" choice, the 30-second long advertising pitch (ending with the ad copywriters prohibited phrase, "and so much more") repeats until finally, the caller is asked to record a message "for a return call." Nice. I've got an emergency and I've got to listen to a sales pitch and THEN leave a message? On to worse problems: I have two simple battery powered devices that continually cause false alarms, even after installing new batteries. (By the way, burglars of all ranks frequently CAUSE false triggers to convince the user to shut the system for repairs, after which, the burglars hit what they know is a shut down facility. Check out the huge Brink's robbery in Bucaramanga, Columbia.) On at least two occasions, Vector's Senior Technical staff claimed they could solve this problem remotely by "reprogramming my system." All tries failed. Then the told me they'd have to send a repairman and that the fee would be a minimum of $250, plus a huge hourly charge. This insult after they have taken my monthly service contract payment for over 30 years without a single need for service! So? You want protection that works just about as good as Vector, with low cost "install-yourself" devices that add such features as monitored cameras that can convince a burglar to give up, 24 hour access to view your cameras and other devices remotely? And a great system will cost less than the $250 basic home visit from Vector, the monthly contract cost much less as well - Welcome Simply Safe, goodbye Vector.
