Prior to going, I tried looking on Google and Yelp to see if anyone wrote some useful tips. Unfortunately, I didn't find any in recent times, so I'll write some myself. The website depending on the location, will say wait times but it just has a number like 1 or 4. I wished it would have been more specific like say min or hour. The numbers indicate mins, if you see a 1 then it's just 1 min. The Addison location was easy to find and only one car was in front of me. This was at 12:45 pm on a Wed. Avoid going on Mon and Fri-Sun. When they open it might be hectic because like the DMV, everyone will have the same idea. It's best to go towards the end of lunch, and late afternoon. I came around 4:30 pm and it was dead. The employee that did my testing wasn't rude, just kind of nonchalant. She had me sit on the chair for a minute or less. The whole process was quick. read more

The wait time was 28 seconds from when I pulled in to when I got back into my car. No problem on a Tuesday morning. It was $200.50, that included my sticker of $191. So the test was only $9.50. Pretty good deal for getting it done quick and I didn't have to chase my sticker around somewhere else. read more

Everyone loves a chance to go to the DMV and/or get their emissions checked. It's right up there with a colonoscopy or getting deposed in a lawsuit. However, I have to admit this inspection process was about as pain-free as I have experienced. It helped that I went mid-day on a weekday. Lines were pretty short and I probably only had 6 cars in front of me. Got in, got out, passed the test, and went right to the office to by my tabs. Waiting 5-10 in line and done. I don't really do reviews anymore but "I really should review my go-to emissions testing facility" entered my brain, because I'm a psychopath. I find it funny we still have to do emissions tests when we're all probably going to die in 10 years anyway. No cap. It is what it is and I can't be riding dirty during this short time we have left on earth, because the state of Illinois leaves me no choice. I still choose to come to this location because I don't think the city of Chicago even has testing locations anymore. I also work halfway between home and this location, so it's not *completely* out of my way. The "halfway" thing is probably a stretch but who cares? I like this location because lines are never long. I'm basically in and out like burger. I think I've used that line in a past review, but that was at least 5 years ago, so I can recycle old wordplay now. The 5 years thing is some arbitrary rule I just made up right now, too. They also allow you to renew your plates immediately after your emissions test. That is assuming your car passed. Then you just get to go home feeling like a piece of sh**. Renewing your plates is debit/credit only and there is an added fee of about the cost of buying a beer at one of our major league ballparks. I was in and out pretty quickly on my lunch hour on a Thursday. About 10 minutes for the test and another 5-7 minutes in line to renew my Registration sticker. The line inspector was friendly, polite, and complimented my bumper stickers. The line inside moved quickly and efficiently. You will pay a service fee to get your Registration sticker, like $6-7, but it was worth it not to have to mail in the form and wait for the sticker to get mailed to my house. Besides. Emissions testing is one of those evils we all have to deal with but this location does a great job of making it as painless as possible. I arrived shortly before they opened and had to wait in a line (tip: the line of cars starts on the eastbound side of Fullerton. I suggest arriving via Route 53). But the line moves along at a pretty good clip because they have multiple lines and test two cars at once. The staff is friendly and willing to answer any questions you have regarding next steps. After the test I went inside and renewed my registration as well. It's nice that they allowed me to do it on the spot but they do charge a $7 fee... (not sure if there is one when renewing online). So when your notice arrives in the mail, get an early start one morning and just knock this out - you won't even have to get out of your car! read more

They're quick sure, but pretty unprofessional. First guy who plugged into my car was pretty rude. He talked very quietly and when I told him I had hearing problems, he talked to me like I was stupid, and when I asked him questions he just ignored me. Then when I went to go pick up my sticker, the girl told me $9.50, which is fine, but then she charged me $160.00. I asked her why, and she said "it's for the sticker". You don't do that, you tell the customer what you're charging them before they give you their card. This facility isn't something people choose to come to, we all have to get our emissions done, there's no excuse to treat people rudely like this. read more

LAW ABIDING CITIZEN Mandatory vehicle emissions testing can be bothersome, but this place in Addison makes it as painless as possible. Before I could renew my license, my rebel cruiser had to get the all-clear from the professionals. I missed my window of opportunity on the weekend, so I had to take a long lunch on 7/15/19. This testing station is just east of Fullerton & I-355, pretty easy to locate. The guy who did the testing was nice enough. The actual emissions portion took less time than expected. You'll have to wait in a tiny room while they plug into your ride, which can take anywhere between 3-15 minutes. I was done in 10 minutes flat......and that included buying a license plate renewal sticker! Yeah, they charged me a requisite $7.50 service fee but it saved me a trip to some shady currency exchange. I find it odd that only newer cars need to undergo emissions testing. If you happen to drive a beat-up jalopy from 1992, you can just keep on motoring. It might be coughing up noxious fumes into the atmosphere, but as far as the state of Illinois is concerned, you're good! The list of exempt vehicles are interesting..... I had to look up what's considered "husbandry" (hint: it's nothing to do with married men). Also, "implementations of warfare" are exempt, which sounds badass. I'd get a kick out of seeing a Panzer tank pull into the testing station and watch some army dude pop open the armored hatch. * TL;DR * Getting your vehicle inspected is state law, there's no other way around it. I can't comment on the other locations in Schaumburg, Naperville, or Skokie, though I can't imagine they're wildly different from this one in Addision. Just remember to bring a form of proof of address and full name if your address changed (bank statement, utility bill, etc). read more

I had no idea what to expect, because I've never needed an emissions test before, but this was easy peasy! I came around 5:15 pm on a weekday, just 4 days before month end, and had to wait less than a minute! The station was easy to find, you just pull in and will be there for around 2 minutes, before they hand you your yay or nay paper. After that, you can go over to a building on the same lot if you'd like to renew your plates on the spot. I did have to wait there, and due to COVID, I had to wait outside, but that line wasn't too slow - and it was worth the wait and extra $7.50 to get everything taken care of at once! read more

Yeah, yeah I waited until the last weekend of the month to go. I can't go during the week, and every weekend this month has been a weather sh*t show, so this past Saturday was the first chance I got. I did expect a line, but given that you are able to check the wait time online, I figured I would be okay with a wait time of 10 minutes. When I got to the facility, I saw that the wait time sign said 4. Yay! I drove my happy ass into the lot and drove straight. Then I realized I missed the waiting area and ended up where you exit the testing area. Huh? Came back around and saw that what I had originally thought was a parking lot (don't know why they would even have one, but I was tired, so bear with me), was in fact the waiting line. Oh snap. I waited a lovely 25 min to half hour, and of course, the woman who was doing the testing had some equipment problem, so there was a bit of a hold up to boot. Finally it was my turn. I waited in the booth (which is nice and warm) while she did her thing and I was cleared to go. Next testing date: 2015 (not that my car will last that long). Thankfully you only have to do this every two years, but what a pain it is. There aren't that many facilities around the area (the next closest is Elk Grove Village), so this will continue to be my go-to and I'm fine with that, but please update your wait system, k? read more

I hate spend time out of my life at this place, but these people make it as pleasant as emissions testing can be. Employees were directing cars to the shortest lines and my "tester" knew his job. I was in/out in under 15 minutes. What more can you ask for, short of not having to go at all? Quick and easy station ... there was very little interaction with the staff considering the staff. I was looking for a place where i could do a good drive away from the city and this was my choice. One bad employee does not make this place the worst which is why I'm giving it 3 stars. So I went for my emissions test about 2 weeks ago. Failed It. I got the sheet for when I return that needed to be filled out saying who fixed it. I got my vehicle repaired by a family member. It didn't specify on the paper what to do if someone other than a repair shop has fixed it. It gives you 2 options: The Motorist or the Shop that fixed it. So I didn't fill it out. So I get there today, I forget my sheet at home. The guy says to me you have your repair sheet? I say no. He says WELL I'M NOT LOSING MY JOB BECAUSE YOU FORGOT YOUR SHEET. (VERY, EXTREMEMLY RUDELY) Now sir, theres a way to handle this. You didn't need to be a C U NEXT TUESDAY about it. When I asked you well what if My dad fixed my car? & you tell me I still need the sheet. Well does it need to be filled out? What do I do? You telling me well I still need the sheet does not tell me anything. When I went home and got my sheet and came back I have a very nice employee explain to me what I had to do. I went in the building, they helped me out. I drove around again, and I got another nice employee. The people inside the building, again very nice. I appreciate that. Now if our president succeeds at getting rid of these emissions tests & I see the EMPLOYEE who was extremely rude to me on the street carrying a homeless sign, you deserve it because people like you on this earth make it a horrible place to be. Not too long of a wait, I seemed to have picked the slow lane as I watch the lane next to me move 5 cars while I stay put. My beef is with the $7.50 "fee" that they tack on if you want to grab your sticker there. This is not a convenience to pull into your awkward one way parking lot, get out of the car, and wait in line. It's faster, cheaper and easier to just mail in the check. Smh read more

I then drove around and parked so I could buy my sticker right here on site-- no second trip to DMV or online fuss. Elizabeth and Matt at the counter were also very friendly and efficient. I have been coming here every other year since maybe '97. Usually it's a pretty painless, very quick experience. Today, I just happened to be in the area and I thought I'd knock the air test off my To Do list, even though I am not due for 3 months. I failed to consider that today is the 29th and other people might not be as ahead of schedule as myself. All 5 lanes were jam-packed!! You definitely may wish to avoid visiting towards the end of the month to avoid a wait, for serious. But still, the cars moved pretty quickly. I was on site for maybe 10-12 minutes total. They had two guys in my one lane, doubling down on cars. Amazing! And, moving at the speed of light, the weary attendant informed me that he was "getting too old for this sh*t." It was not extremely crowded and the attendants were friendly yet professional and kept the line moving. I'm not a fan of having to haul booty to do an emissions test, but at least his place made it bearable. The testing station has the capability of running up to 5 lanes at a time, with two check points for each lane. The sign on site said wait time would be about 6 minutes, which I didn't believe would be true, but it was right on point! The guy I worked with wasn't the friendliest ever, but he got the job done fast, which is most important! I was out of there in 10 minutes. Pro-tip-- I had my phone out ready to mess around and look things up, but really, keep the phones away! They are moving fast to maintain efficiency and customers need to pay attention to help the process. read more

Dear State of Illinois, I'm cool with my car needing to be tested every couple years. I get it. You don't want total junkers driving around polluting things more than usual. And I must say, the people here have always been friendly to me. They're doing their job, and they're doing it as quickly and efficiently as they can. I also understand that I should expect a long wait if I'm going to be visiting on a Saturday at the end of the month. But my main quibble is with your wait time system. I called from about 2 miles away, and was told by the computer that the wait time was 10 minutes. Sounded doable. When I arrived at the station, the sign said 9 minutes, and then changed to 6. I was skeptical, given the large quantity of cars waiting, but decided to stick it out. I waited 20 minutes. Twenty. Minutes. Who's determining these wait times? I don't get it. Also, I would like to point out the irony of having two dozen cars or more idling and polluting the air at an emissions testing station. In summation, while I appreciate the courteous service and the necessity of doing this in the first place, any improvement you could make to your wait-time system would be deeply appreciated. It's emissions testing, nothing to get excited about, but this location is pretty good! Off the beaten path of traffic, several lanes to choose from, and even when they're busy they seem to be really good at getting people in and out in a short or at least reasonable amount of time. Guy who tested my car was nice, he even got my door for me and sent me off with a "have a nice day, Miss". Might be worth considering having a sign visible to the queues that says what you need to do when it's your turn, might make it a pinch easier (not like it's rocket science, but it could be nice for us noobs). read more
