3-1/2 stars (bump up for good service). Stopped by Il Capriccio for an early dinner while in the area; we had a reservation at 6pm, but we came early and the waitress was nice to let us get seated an hour earlier. Inside was old school, a step back in time and offered a no-frills atmosphere. Service was pleasant, and it appears to be family-run. I ordered the tagliolini neri, aka squid ink pasta with shrimp and pink sauce. It took over an hour to get our food, even though we were one of two patrons in the restaurant. Food eventually arrived, piping hot, and it was tasty enough: I do wish that the pasta was a bit more al-dente and perhaps more flavorful-- even a bit of salt would've been better. Overall, an okay-experience. We were really put off by the extremely-long wait for our food, and it was pretty good, but nothing worth waiting that long for. But I appreciated the nice service and it did feel like eating inside a trattoria in New York, with its nonnas and no-nonsense vibes.

The cute little outdoor terrace caught my attention and the dimly lit interior. I was immediately sat by my waitress who was so kind and polite. She immediately showed me the specials which, I didn't get any, but they all sounded so good. I had the Carozza (lightly breaded mozzarella in a marinara sauce) which was so delicious! Not oily, just the right amount of melt, and the sauce had such a new flavor. Very good. Then I had the Linguine Vongole (pasta, tossed with tender in-shell Manila clams, sautéed in olive oil, white wine and garlic). TO DIE FOR! Rich in flavor, nom fishy taste, fresh tasting. The bus girl also, so nice, quick and kind. She immediately had bread in the table for me and a great personality. Definitely bringing a date here.

What a gem. We were on our way down the 5 from Burbank to the OC and stopped for my husband's favorite type of food. The owner is an alumni from my high school and I had never been to his restaurant although he has had this location and several others for over a couple of decades. I rarely come to LA. We had a great time. We sat on the small patio although there were wonderful tables inside. Loved the feel of sitting out there, people watching. Reminded us of Europe and the sidewalk cafes. Ran into another classmate there! What were the chances of that? Anyway, we enjoyed their delicious bread and started with their calamari while looking over the menu. The calamari was made with a perfect batter, light and crispy with a very good dipping sauce. Next we shared a Caesar salad (both were on the Happy Hour Menu). For dinner, my husband was torn with several choices that caught his eye but as often is the case, stuck with his Linguine Vongole which he was very happy with. He truly knows his preferences and found this dish to have sweet clams with a flavorful sauce. Ermanno explained how he chose to cook his as to why it comes out so nicely. I ordered the branzino which came with angel hair pasta and vegetables. A lovely plate presentation and soooo good. For dessert we shared the apple tart heated a la mode. We are such happy campers we are already planning to drive allll the way back to meet with friends for dinner. Valet Parking is $7 while dining here (with Validation. )

11/10 BEST ITALIAN IN LA that hidden gem you wish you discovered sooner. I ordered the Rigatoni Norcina and an Arribata (sauce on the side), and honestly, this place blew me away. Hands down one of the best Italian spots in Los Angeles. Skip the overhyped names like Jon& Vinny's--here you get more pasta, for $10 less, and it's the kind of dish that makes you want to lick the plate clean. That's not something I can say about most Italian restaurants, and trust me, Italian food is my favorite cuisine. cozy, authentic, and criminally underrated. It's one of those rare spots you almost don't want to gatekeep, but it deserves the spotlight. The flavors are rich, the portions are generous, and every bite tastes like it was made with love. If you're tired of the scene-y spots that don't live up to the hype, come here. This is the kind of restaurant you'll keep coming back to, and wonder why it isn't talked about more. easily one of LA's best-kept secrets.

We love this spot. So perfect for a date night. Family owned and operated. There's not a bad item on the menu and everything is so fresh! The ambience is casual, classy and intimate. Perfect for date night or wanting to feel European.

I love love love pasta!! Pasta is one my favorite food. This place is amazing. Went here for my birthday with my family. We got pasta and pizza. We all got each pasta and we all loved it. Definitely coming back here. My favorite Rigatoni Norcina and spaghetti carbonara but I love all of their pasta. Our sever was amazing. There was homeless interrupting our dinner but our lady was able to handle it herself. Street parking only.

I love an authentic Italian place. Amazing food and service. I arrived without a reservation as a party of five and was seated within minutes. Our server was lovely and offered great recommendations. All the food we had was impeccable. Everything was worth the price.

Some friends and I were heading to a show at the Greek Theater. Looking for a place to eat before it started we came across Il Capriccio. The space is small, but never felt cramped or overcrowded. The service was quick and the food they brought out was filling and delicious. For proximity to the Greek, it's right down the street. If you're looking for good food before a show, or before a night out in Los Feliz I'd highly recommend giving this restaurant a try. For parking: There's usually street parking available in the area, but if for whatever reason an open spot is hard to come by Il Capriccio has a valet option as well.

We saw Capriccio on TV in Italy, on "Little Big Italy". We fell in love with the 'nonna' who founded it, and with her winning dish pasta alla genovese. Now we are in LA and going there for dinner tonight. Do you still make that dish?

Hi, Joe. Thanks so much for your lovely remarks. Unfortunately, Mama Flora is no longer with us. We miss her greatly, and we have retired the pasta alla Genovese.

Checking: are you open on Sunday Jan 15? And on BYOB is $20 the corkage charge. And do you have a wine list, there is nothing listed on the website. Looking forward. THANKS

Hi, Kevin. Yes, we are open Sunday, Jan 15. Corkage is $20. Here is a link to our current wine list:…

Hi Jennifer. Thanks for reaching out. At this stage we are on track to re-open Jan 1. So sorry we can't accommodate your mom on her visit!

Do they have heat lamps at night?

Yes, we have heat lamps on our lovely patio and sidewalk tables 😉

Hello. I took my best friend here for her birthday and she fell in love with the Lambrusco you serve here. I was wondering what brand/winery of Lambrusco you serve? Thank you so much

Hi Jacke. We serve Molo 8 Lambrusco. 😊

Hi, is the corkage fee $20 per bottle?

Yes, our corkage is $20 😊

Is your clam sauce with fresh clams or from a can?

Hi Lara. Our clam sauce is with fresh clams.

Can you bring ur own wine , if so what is the corkage charge?

Hi, Vanessa. Yes, you are more than welcome to bring your own wine. Our corkage fee is $20 😊

Why such a long hiatus? The tap list over the last months just hasn't had anything I've wanted to drink. It's been a lot of repeats of things I've had over and over or beers that just aren't appealing -- or, in many cases, both. The Glendale Tap used to have a fairly good turnover of new brews, but lately, it seems to be in a rut. Imports are pretty much never to be seen -- like everywhere else, sadly. Even out-of-state beers are rare. And on my most recent visit, at least half of the tap list was tapped out. IPAs and sours take up so much of the list -- stouts in the cooler months -- while styles like bitters, milds, (non-India) pale ales, brown ales, bocks, amber lagers, smoked beers, etc., get little to no space on the tap list. I still love the atmosphere of the Glendale Tap, and the bartenders there are the best. Prices are fair, and there's always something at least decent to drink. But I miss those fulsome tap lists with a variety of beer styles from far and wide. More and more, the Glendale Tap is becoming too much like every other beer bar. I know L.A. beer drinkers are extremely parochial with very limited tastes (basically IPA, IPA, IPA, and IPA, with some super sours thrown in), but I would hope the Glendale Tap could return to just a smidgen of its former excellence. Until then, I probably will be visiting biannually instead of bimonthly.

OVERALL It was nice to slip into The Famous Bar for the first time in over a decade, and if I found myself spending time in downtown Glendale again, I'd consider another visit. Sadly, I try to avoid the highly congested area as much as possible. I loved the fact that they had a daily happy hour (4pm-7pm) and late-night SU-TH happy hours (10:30pm-close), so there was always a deal to be found. The drinks were the main reason you came, while the food was just an add-on. The prices were elevated, but you had a good menu selection of libations (nice local craft beer list) to choose from. The customer service was easy, friendly, and straightforward. I found very good value based on the prices, service, and experience noted above (TOTAL paid experience was around $42.00 BEFORE any discounts/tip). And, they accepted my credit card of choice... The textures were amazing, fried food was crispy on the outside, soft and juicy on the inside. Sausages had a bite to them and tender in the middle. Flavour profiles here were smoky, punchy, sweet, and vinegary. The lettuce mix under the sausages was a nice touch too. This fed four perfectly. Great variety of beer too! Hungary didn't make it to the World Cup this year so that was a bit of a bummer, considering my fam is from the old country. However, my second all-time fave, France, was still in the semi-finals. You see, I grew up watching Zinedine Zidane and to me, the World Cup brings back childhood memories and family bonding time. The menu items took me back in time. Much to my surprise, I noticed that there was a Hungarian kielbasa & a Debreziner sausage listed on their $10 lunch deal. I was shocked that I had the opportunity to debate over which one to pick. DEBREZINER sausage (in German) or for us Hungarians, is better known as "Debreceni Virsli" and made in the region where my dad's side of the fam grew up. It's often served cut up on the sides and has a richer color. For me, it's a bit juicier and there's more paprika in there. It's more along the lines of chorizo, if that's what your flavorbuds prefer. It's made with sweet and hot paprika, garlic, pepper, and marjoram. If my dad had been with me that day, he'd opt for the Debreziner. After deliberating for a bit, I decided to go with the HUNGARIAN KIELBASA and decked it out with grilled onions, sauerkraut, and jalapeños (very hot, stated the menu). The jalapeños rivaled the outside 100+ degree temperature. Thankfully, the cool AC made me forget it was one sweltering summer's day. Also, the Hibiscus Cider was crisp and made my experience and the lackluster game worth my time out. I loved how easy the ordering went-just tap the menu on the iPad and voila, you got the whole spiel. Service was quick and felt welcoming like I was at home in someone's living room with tons of TVs all around. Sadly, France didn't show up to play in the game until the last 5 mins or so. Spain obvi deserved the win and yes, this year's cup for their fancy footwork. The vibe was great and the crowd around me were locals on a first name basis with the staff. With awesome cider and food as tasty as I had growing up at home, I think I'll make it a goal to be on a first name basis around here during the NHL & NFL season.
