I came here a few months ago on my trip to London and I had totally forgotten to write a review about this place until now! When I say this food is exquisite, it genuinely is. For an appetizer please try the mushrooms, bruschetta, and caprese! All of these items were so delicious! My group and I got various pasta dishes but the bolognese was right up my alley and I enjoyed it so! And I also tried another person in my groups penne arrabbiata which was very tasty as well! The service was great, we loved our waiter but many of the waiters here are fantastic as well and they are so delighted to make recommendations about dishes to try or wine! Our waiter recommended us a delicious red wine which I believe was called Primitivo. I'm sure there are so many more amazing dishes at this cute Italian restaurant and I can't wait to come back to London to try more! Our daughters were craving Italian whilst on on visit to Lindon. I yelped a place close to us around Tower Bridge and ll Bordello came up. Took a taxi on over and was promptly seated. The Italian wait staff was friendly and recommended a couple dishes. We decided on seafood linguine, penne arribiata with grilled shrimp, mushroom pizza and a regular margarita pizza. We popped in here late on a Fri after walking around. The food was authentic and really good. Our meal was great! We had puttanesca and cacciatore and a garlic pizza to start. When we left, I was walking down the street commenting on the wonderful flavors still dancing around my mouth. They recommended a great Tuscan wine that we loved. A truly Italian meal with excellent food and knowledgeable staff who seem to also be from Italy. You should definitely try to make reservations as this place seems to be busy any night. For appetizers we tried the focaccia and bruschetta. Both really good. The bruschetta tomatoes were so fresh and flavorful. For dinner I had the spaghetti carbonara and wow it was good. A dining companion had the pollo sorpresa that was amazing and what I'll order next time I'm there. The wine selection is limited but the wines we had were very good. Il bordello is located in what felt like an older area of Wappings. I came here on a weeknight and there was absolutely no wait and most of the tables were actually empty. The restaurant itself has an old school Italian vibe to it as well as the service as well. Nothing super enthusiastic or extra friendly like how many modern places are. My fiancee and I decided to go for two pastas and went with a fettuccine alfredo dish and a tomato creamy spaghetti dish. Both of them were satisfying. Nothing truly standout but if you are in the area and want some pasta I wouldn't hesitate to drop by. Out of the two, I preferred the fettuccine alfredo dish but that may just be because I personally prefer creamy dishes. Our first place to eat upon arriving in Wapping. Excellent gnocchi and mushroom ravioli, nice bustling atmosphere.

If I could go 6 stars, I would. If it's not my new favourite restaurant in London, it is certainly my favourite Italian. And basically for one reason, the food. It's in a sort of out of the way spot, as much as that is possible in the heart of London. A friend who has been going there for 15 years took me otherwise I wouldn't have ever seen it. I am thankful he did! It's a basic decor, charming simple I will call it. The service was exceptional. They were all proper professional waiters that had worked there for years; it seemed a real family owned type place, which I believe it is. What is clear is that they really care about the menu and the wine. We started with a caprese salad and smoked salmon stuffed with mashed avocados, which were plentiful and amazingly good. I need to emphasise that you should bring an appetite. The portions are large. Then I had a spaghetti and meatball. I wanted to keep it basic to see what they could do with it but their menu is anything but basic. Anyway, the pasta was perfectly cooked, to the second, and the meatballs were huge and packed with flavour. I can't believe that we got dessert but my friend insisted and I discovered why. The profiteroles and tiramisu were the best I have had. Light and not to sweet but still decadent. What more can I say? If this hasn't convinced you, I have failed this great restaurant. A fine Italian restaurant blessed with an abundance of specials. Its a bit pricier than most Italian restaurants, but then you must take the location into account. The food is very good and there are many options, so you won't find yourself trawling through a menu only to decide on pizza - again. The monk fish is certainly worth a try. Even better than the food is the service. The staff are friendly and helpful should you ask for advice with your selection. If it's someones birthday then discreetly let the staff know and your friend will soon have the whole restaurant singing happy birthday to him/her and then will be presented with a desert from their fine selection, and a candle to blow out... Great food, big portions (this could be negative if you are calorie counting), fantastic profiterole, fantastic service with a side of flirt. Ughhhh the food here is extremely good and it's freshly prepared every time. The portions are huge and even when I'm the hungriest, I find it hard to finish my plate. This is a great italian restaurant, either for pizza, pasta and dessert. I'm italian: this is one of the nicest italian places in London for variety and choice. DISHES I went there a few times now, and I've tested a few different dishes. 1. The pasta is usually very abundant and rich in taste. It usually resemble closely what you could find in Italy. 2. The pizza isn't perfect, probably due to the electric oven. However it's pretty close and has good ingredients, without any excess.. 3. The desserts are really good, even if the tiramisu is a bit more bland than the italian counterpart it's still quite notable. 4. The limoncello is also good, maybe a little too pricey but you can do it once in a while for a good one. AMBIENT AND SERVICE The ambient feels like a good italian restaurant, and the service too. Cordial, attentive and prone to suggest you the best choice. Maybe it would be better if the tables were a bit more far away, but since I've always found it almost full I'm glad to be able to find a seat. In old school Wapping there lurks an old school restaurants with even old schooler waiters. Walking through the doors of Il Bordello, is like stepping out of the Delorian. Welcome to the 80s. The tables have wipe clean table cloths and are crammed so close to our neighbours, I thought we were on a double date. The waiters are all of a charming vintage. Bedecked in wine coloured waistcoats and matching red dickie bows, they also match the table cloths! They're a bit surly, in that way people didnt care about customer reviews in the 80s, when yelp wasn't even a twinkle in it's founder's eye. To be honest its refreshing and I bet with repeat patronage you can melt away the gruff exterior. With a smiley demeanour, I definitely elicited a sneaky cheeky wink from my waitor. Let the challenge commence. They must be doing something right, at 10pm on a Friday as we are finishing up our meal, more eager customers come flooding in. It is clear they have long established regulars who have been coming here nearly as long as the waiters have worked here. The crowd was a mix of older original Londoners and younger hipper newcomers. All itching for old fashioned Italian food. The restaurant delivers a nice hearty meal. My pasta dish was pretty good. The pizza we ate was so so but blame it on the husband who always goes for margherittas. Portions were big, my side salad was generous. The house red was a bit tasteless for my buds though. This is the best Italian I've ever had. I was taken here by an Italian friend, so that's definitely saying something. The place felt unpretentious and genuine. The pasta dishes are amazing. I had some sort of scallop and linguine dish. Scallops were done perfectly. The pasta was the right texture and flavorful. The pizza is also good. I'm not sure how it stacks up against other London pizzas, but there's a lot of good pizza in New York so it was less special. The desserts were as outstanding as the pasta. We came here for our work team Christmas dinner and it was a very good setting for this. There were about 30 of us and we were very well looked after. The service was friendly and attentive and we didn't have long to wait in between our courses. The food was good and filling, but not what you would call fine dining. I had a medium-cooked steak with mushroom sauce and it came with generous sides of roast potatoes and veges. It was a loud atmosphere, but felt appropriate for the restaurant. Now, Wapping really is not blessed by a big choice of restaurants, but the one I know is perfect if you live around there and are not bothered to cook in the evening or if you are someone who made all the way to St. Katharine Docklands - Wapping is not far away. It is a Italian restaurant with lots of little tables. It is a really good place for a quick pizza or pasta. The service is very friendly, funny, quick and the place seems to be packed all the time, even on a Sunday night at 10pm. It is one of the best Italian I know and I would recommend going there in a bigger group, it is not the best place to have a romantic tête-à-tête. They all seem to be of a certain age with a certain accent and have certain type of manners --and for this reason you always feel pampered when you go in here . Went there on a busy Saturday night around 8:30, the rush hour apparently. A large restaurant with a lot of tables and a gigantic list of meals (which most of the time is a bad sign but turned out great there.). A very old school Italian atmosphere with an army of waiters running around and yelling instructions loudly. Can't get more Italian that that. Had the Milanese scalop with a side of Bolognese spaghetti. The British couple next to us gagged when they saw the size of scalop which was indeed huge. And delicious, perfectly cooked and crusted. Also had some wine but can't really remember what it is, I was letting the wheel to somebody else for once. Apparently It's a place where a lot of people bring their dates. That night the other customers were couples or large tables of friends. Be careful, even on a Saturday night they close around 11, which is a hard concept to grasp for a Parisian night owl like myself. Il Bordello can get really loud so I would not recommend going there to have intimate conversations. The food makes up for it by far though. This was our last meal in London, and for our vacation, and it was absolutley fantastic. One of the best Italian restaurants we've ever been to. They made me a four cheese pasta with shrimp dish that was no longer on menu because I loved the look of another yelpers posted photo. So many restaurants wouldn't do something like this and they were more than accommodating. My wife had the baked house chicken with roast potatoes and I swear this was the best chicken we've ever had. It takes 30 minutes to prepare but it comes out with the greatest crispy thin breaded crust. It was amazing. The worst part of the meal is that we couldn't really take the left overs (portions are great size) because we were staying at a hotel. The service was also the best we had in London. Whatever you do go hear for dinner but probably make reservations. We ate here after seeing the Tower of London, it's only about 10 minutes away. read more

They have the best pasta in London. My colleague kept on telling me how great this place was, so one day I went there and was completely convinced. The portion was generous, the sauce was just about right - not too watery or gravy, and the pasta itself was cooked right to the al dente stage. I've been to Il Bordello Wapping a few times before. On this occasion it was my flatmates birthday. Arriving at 7pm last Thursday evening we managed to get a table without having made a reservation. 15 minutes later the restaurant was packed so we timed it just right! I had the Napoletana pizza which was very good - if a tad salty (but then - with a heap of black olives and a shoal of anchovies on top - this was to be expected). My flatmate's pizza was the eponymous 'Bordello' which, although appeared to me to be swathed in skin grafts, my flatmate assured me was delicious parma ham. The waiters as always were attentive and very speedy with their service. I would give 5 stars but I've noticed the yelp filter hides reviews with 5 stars (at least for me!). read more
