Ravioli
Jane M.

Fantastic find in Covent Garden. The unassuming front doesn't do justice to the sinful surprise inside. The homemade pasta and superbly simmered sauces were exquisite. The sausage and cheese atop were lightly charred to perfection. I savoured every bite. My companion's ravioli was delicious with a light, creamy sauce and fresh ricotta on the side. This restaurant was recommended by Italian friends as the most authentic they've had in London. The experience exceeded my expectations. I've read reviews with complaints on seating and staff but our experience was fabulous.

Service and food were phenomenal! The pizzas were tasty and quick. Dessert was very good as well.

Diavolo Pizza

Very fresh Italian food! The bolognese pasta and diavolo pizza were exactly as they should be! Busy spot, tables are close, and staff is friendly. If you're looking for Italian in the area this is your spot.

Wow! Delicious authentic Italian food right in the heart of London. The pizza, the pasta, the appetizers, all sublime! One thing to be aware of is that this place is really busy. A reservation is definitely recommended. I got lucky and came early right before the rush of dinner service to grab a table. I got the linguini gamberoni & cozze (linguini with prawns and mussels). It was absolutely delicious! An awesome seafood pasta that had really fresh prawns and mussels. We also ordered some white wine and calamari as an appetizer. Everything was well done and tasted awesome! It can be quite loud inside and the seating is tight, but I think it's worth it to stop by this authentic place. The waiters are knowledgeable and if you don't know what each thing is, just ask or look it up on google.

All I can say is there are a number of Italian restaurants around the same area, but I'm not disappointed at all for the choice we made. With a friendly group of employees and quite the extent of a menu, I enjoyed my whole experience. From the grilled vegetables, and garlic pizza bread to start, to my Calzone,I enjoyed it all. I would love to come back again to try their other dishes but I will be leaving soon. So I will leave it up to you to decide.

Gnocchi

This quaint Italian joint is just around the corner from the exceptionally crowded Dishoom restaurant. The food was as expected, not phenomenal but still pretty good. My view of the gnocchi was biased, however, due to my previous experience with gnocchi being in Italy. The sauce was excellent still with pieces of basil strewn throughout. It was a nice evening, but the service seemed to be lacking a bit. We would wait for a very long time before being attended despite having them walk near us or even right next to us many times. Also, maybe a silly addition, but if you are not interested in paying for water ask for tap rather than still or sparkling. Overall a nice evening and would recommend.

THIS PLACE IS AMAZING! Go now!!! I am from the US and have a gluten intolerance, and ever since I got to London (for a work trip), have not had the same issue, likely from the lack of preservatives and additional chemicals that I think are added in the US - less processed in London. The pizza was phenomenal. I did just a standard margherita and I seriously dream of that pizza!!! It was thin crust, authentic cheesy goodness. The place was a bit busy but we were seated quickly. They do not accept American Express just FYI!

We were nearby in Piccadilly Circus and were craving Italian so we decided to come here after seeing all the great reviews after a quick google search. Thankfully it was only a 5 min walk from where we were and we didn't have to wait to be seated. To start off, we got a margherita pizza to share. The pizza itself was delicious but a bit on the cool side (tasted like maybe they forgot to bring it out right after it was finished cooking). I really like how they cut the pizza in half and served it on two different plates as they knew we were sharing. I also love the chilli oil, it was very tasty and had just the right amount of spice. For our main, we both got the Scialatielli Melanzane e Provola (which translated is pasta with aubergine, cherry tomatoes and smoked mozzarella). I thought it was ok (not the best but definitely not the worst. Probably could've used more salt) but the other person wasn't crazy about hers and left back more than half of her meal. When the waitress came back to collect our plates and asked if she would like to take hers to go as there was obviously a lot of food left back unfinished, the waitress should've asked if everything was okay after she said she didn't want to take home the leftovers. The meal in general just had a weird aftertaste which I later found out was the smoked mozzarella (which I probably won't order in the future anywhere I go as it clearly didn't agree with my taste pallet). I really don't understand customer service in Europe...is there a such thing!? We couldn't split the bill even though we asked right at the beginning soon after sitting down, we had to literally raise our hand to get someone to initially take our order, and a gratuity was already applied on our bill for only two people dining (which maybe explains the less than average service. Why try for a tip if it's already included, right?). Maybe if I was a native European, this wouldn't be such a shock to me but in North America, customer service is amazing. If you don't like your food no matter how much you eat of it, you can always take it back; if a server clearly sees you didn't enjoy your food they will inquire about it and get you something new to eat; gratuity is only applied to large groups of at least six or seven people, and if that's the case you will always be told beforehand; servers often check up on you to see how your meal is tasting and sometimes a chef/owner/manager of the restaurant will personally come by your table to see how your experience is going; etc. Needless to say, coming from Canada to England, the service is very under welcoming (and it's not just England, it's Europe in general). Wou I come back here? I wouldn't be hesitant to trying something else, just not the meal I got.

Seabass

There is nothing worse than a poor attitude. There is simply no need for it, nor is there any excusing it. Especially if you work in hospitality! Note that I am asking not asking for all smiles all the time, but if a customer (operative word being customer) tells you that they are not happy with something, sighing, huffing and puffing is not acceptable. I ordered the octopus with rocket to start, followed by the sea bass. When my starter arrived it was covered in parsley. Now, I hate parsley, but I didn't complain as I just assumed that I had missed that on the menu. I remember seeing that parsley was in some of the main dishes, so I specifically took extra care to order a main that didn't have any. Low and behold when my main arrived, I'll give you one guess as to what was used as the garnish? Yep, you guessed it, that evil tasting green herb. I can hear you asking, '"why didn't you just put it to one side?" Reason being, because it was chopped into sand size particles and it wasn't just around the edge of the bowl, but it had infected the tomato sauce too! I informed the waiter of my dislike (hate) for the green goblin and he said something along the lines of 'just eat around it.' "I will not just it around it!" I thought to myself Would you ask Superman to just skirt around a pile of kryptonite? I think not! Why I had to explain myself further I don't know, but still, I was made to justify myself so I went on to explain that I had not complained about the 'evil' in my starter, but I was unwilling to endure it for a second time. This is where the huffing and puffing started and with the roll of his eyes he took the plate away. Honestly the dish wasn't that great anyway but perhaps I just ordered the wrong things. My three other companions has a lovely meal. Overall I'd have probably given the food 3 stars but for making me feel bad, you only get two.

The upstairs is a corner view onto a street with dark woods and leather booths, while inside an open kitchen and a low-key young crew is putting out some simple, tasty food. Mostly appetizers, pastas and some pesce and carne dishes. Not a destination, but a good spot and one of the few restaurants on the street open on a Sunday. The downstairs basement hosts a cocktail bar that was closed on the Sunday we visited. We enjoyed the feel of the place, along with a bit of montepulciano d'abruzzo, some olives, a green salad, pork belly and a toothsome risotto with zucchini and prawns. Not a bad meal, priced pretty well, and a nice setting with friendly staff. We had such a good time that we failed to notice the police inspectress inside talking to the Paesan crew. The white and red police tape line both inside and outside the restaurant were in our peripheral view the whole dinner, but once outside, we noticed that a gigantic police triangle of tape took up the entire street corner, a female inspector was stationed there, and that down on the cobblestone sidewalk, a streetful of dessicated lemon and lime wedges lay from the night before, leading us to ponder, what exactly had happened here?

The specials all sounded fantastic but I plumped for dandelion salad and the pumpkin and goats cheese pizza. Utterly yummy! Not excessive portions just packed with flavour. The waitress was helpful and calm and the red wine warm and fruity. I'll come again for definites. There is a cocktail bar in the basement and a choice of some interesting sharing options on the main menu for groups. Prices are very reasonable and if my meal was anything to go by, the rest will be as good. I am well impressed.

Instead of trying to resolve the issue professionally, the owner became extremely rude and dismissive. Shockingly, he brought us the bill immediately, refused to serve the rest of the items we had already ordered (including the tiramisu), and directly asked us to leave the restaurant. We were calm and respectful throughout the interaction, but he refused to even listen to our side before abruptly ending the conversation with, "I'll get your bill," and telling us to leave. I honestly don't know whether he was irritated because we had an infant with us or because we requested a modification, but the behaviour was completely unacceptable and deeply disappointing. I still can't believe a restaurant in London could treat customers this way. Truly unbelievable service and an experience I would never want anyone else to go through. We initially ordered 3 items. The pizza was absolutely fine, so we never raised any concern about it. However, the pasta simply didn't suit our taste buds, so we politely requested a few alterations. Instead of handling it professionally, you refused to serve the tiramisu as well -- assuming we'd dislike that too and ask for modifications? Honestly, I wish I had taken a picture of the pasta to show how it looked. As a restaurant owner, you should understand that every customer has different taste preferences. And just for clarification -- we never asked for the pasta to be cancelled. In fact, we were even willing to pack it and take it home after paying for it, despite not liking the taste. You were the one who offered to cancel the remaining order, and we simply agreed. I would humbly request whoever is in charge to please check the CCTV footage and see whether we were ever rude while requesting alterations. Throughout the interaction, you only kept speaking from your side and didn't even give my wife a chance to explain. Is that really what good customer service looks like?

It's also basically on my street and one of the few sit downs open on weekends! However, each of my visits yielded a variable experience, meaning the quality consistency is lacking which means I wouldn't recommend it to a good friend. Not a good thing when it comes to lesser known restaurants. My first time, I was drawn in by the golden lights radiating from the bar and the warehouse lighting which looks almost chic when paired with the exposed brick and glass embellishments. Although my boss and I were the only ones here, the staff paid little to no attention to us - no greeting or any mind paid to us until we physically walked over the bar, distracting the group chatting away in their huddle. The wine was on the pricier side. The second time I came, the place was brimming with city brokers having Thirsty Thursday. The prosecco was decent and we had a nice time. Until we got the bill for the 3 shots of tequila we had which totalled £48. So that's over 15 pounds for each shot...when we queried the bill, the staff explained that the quality of the tequila he poured us explained the cost, exasperated with our stupidity. We said we were not going to pay for that just because when asked what kind, we had probably said "whatever" or "doesn't matter". Doesn't that usually mean house stuff? The third time I had post-birthday party brunch here where I opted for the Italian breakfast which means eggs, soppresetta, sour dough with pate?, tomato, and tuscan sausage. My tastebuds were (to be fair) taking a beating due to the hangover but it was just mediocre at best. Plus the stuff on the sour dough was strange and unpleasant. Canto and I are neighbours and I don't give up on my neighbours.
