I want to love IKEA more but I can't sadly. The amount of room set ups is definitely overwhelming and figuring out what you would want from those can be a lot. I heard so much about the food and honestly is was so BLAND and expensive for what it was. All the soda was flat and half of the options didn't even work. For our meal we got 12 meat balls, mashed potatoes, peas and the lingonberry jam with a piece of garlic toast and a side of mashed potatoes and a strawberry jam cake I assume. It was $20. Nothing was seasoned, the meatballs were on the over cooked side and the mash potatoes was literally just that. The cake was dry and only saving grace was the jam in it. Unfortunately, the wait became unbearable after four (4) weeks; decided to schedule an appointment to discuss substitute products. Let me tell how much I love ikea! I'm willing to drive 4 hours just to pick up a few items here. The drive is well worth it, knowing my kids will enjoy the play area as I shop around and the food here is super cheap. U can't beat $1.99 kids meals and free coffee (IKEA membership) IKEA membership is free and easy to sign up for at the touch screen booth near the entrance. They have a spacious parking garage and many carts to choose from. A yellow bag is available to u to use for shopping. This place is a home decors heaven. They have everything necessary for your house with many ideas to choose from. They have showrooms that are beautifully decorated for inspiration. Many styles are European inspired. They have many arrangement that work well for minimalists and people with small room sizes. Just a heads up, u will have to take a picture of all the pieces u want to pick up at their warehouse. You will have to help yourself, but they can have someone help u if necessary. Make sure u use the white sheets of paper and pencils they have available to everyone to write down the item numbers you will need. I love the kids room area. They toys are cheap and of good quality. I came here in particularly for organization decor. I ended up getting them a cute tent for there room. They have an area for desks, lamps, kitchenware.. everything u could ever need and more. I like their bedding and curtains for their style diversity. I also got some office organizers and cubes to fit the cubbies I have at home. Upon paying, the only drawback is that if u need bags to take out your items you must pay per blue baggy u buy. They are nice and large, so it fits a lot items. Before u leave, I like to get the $.99 hotdogs to go and the box of cinnamon rolls too. The kids love to grab the soft serve ice cream. Be ready to be tired walking around. I got a workout walking around the entire store. It's fun and inspiring. Although Potomac mills mall is right across the street. There is no way I can anymore. I am a big fan of IKEA. I love how the entire store showcases how furniture pieces can be used and how to maximize your space at home. The layout of the Woodbridge IKEA is a slightly maze-like weaving around corners to a new space but it's exciting and every turn grabs my attention. Sometimes a display piece will grab my attention but then you have to go searching for it in the marketplace which can be a little difficult. The bigger furniture pieces are in the warehouse area and is self-serve. I came here with my baby in a stroller and it is nearly impossible to shop in the self serve area as I can't push a stroller and a cart and when during this particular visit I wasn't able to find anyone to help. Now assembling ikea furniture is another story but with a little patience and sometimes trial and error the items can come out beautifully and very sturdy. All the ikea pieces I have at home I've had for years and because of that, I'll be back again. read more

I rented a car to drive 45 minutes, where I was sold a 90$ defective product. The first three times I called about the product they said they weren't taking calls because of Covid and hung up on me. The final time, somebody in customer service sent me to a merchandise manager, I think her name was Michelle, and she had a voicemail that simply said her name and that she wasn't accepting voicemails because of Covid. I got transferred back to customer service, and the resolution is that I need to rent a car for another day and return my product, or just take the $90 loss. They can't deliver a replacement because of Covid. They can't transfer me to a manager because of Covid. They can't do anything because of Covid, and their only recommendation is that I shell out money for a rental car so I can return it (even though I had to do that to buy) it or just take the $90 loss. read more

Ikea is one of my happy places, and this Ikea does not disappoint. It's located at the gigantic Potomac Mills mall and parking is very ample. Keep in mind you'll probably need a few hours to wander around, sit on all the sofas, admire all the countertops, and imagine how you'll add linens that ooze simple Swedish charm into your already cluttered home. I've been here several times before but my most recent visit shortly before Christmas cemented that it's the time to stop in and feel surrounded by holiday whimsy. But rather than the overwhelming marketing you get at other stores, this is a relatively subtle push to get you to buy winter decor. Obviously you need to make a pit stop at the food area for lunch. I'd recommend their classic meatballs if you're a meat eater. An Ikea family card gets you a free coffee or tea. And the cafe is conveniently located midway in your journey, at the end of the top floor leading to the downstairs level. As far as the products? After all these years, still hit or miss. I have two pieces of furniture at home from the collections made of actual wood, and although they were a pain to assemble, they look really nice and are study. Some of their plates and other cookware have also held up. But in contrast, I've gotten items here that last for a season rather than forever. I'd say be judicious in your pickings...and let yourself indulge a bit in the cutesy extra merchandise. read more

I had a good experience only thanks to the REAL manager. I had a delusional employee unfortunately and had probably some prior issues resulting in me getting his worse side, he refused to help me or attempt to assist me by giving me better information and then when I requested to speak to a manager he consistently said he can say no and doesn't want to and that I need to leave the store for being unpleasant. Joshua, the disgraceful employee who doesn't not carry ikea employee customer standards at all, should've routed me to another employee instead of being so unfulfilling with my requests but after refusing to leave and saying he can call security because I know I was in NO wrong doing AT ALL! I figured out a solution thanks to the very helpful gentleman who was Asian (I unfortunately didn't catch his name due to Joshua's dramatic performance), he fulfilled every question and request because I knew it was possible to do what I was asking for (a very simple request) despite Joshua's remarks claiming it's not possible and he refused to help me. I still love ikea but the employees in the Woodbridge location need to be revised and updated, especially because they feel like they are entitled to something even tho they just work at a customer service desk, they also were rude toward their superiors after coming out to mediate and resulted in him being dismissed and his side kick was also given a warning and I'll be reporting both these employees to corporate. Never EVER ordering delivery from IKEA again. I'm never one to complain on social media like this but this has been the most terrible experience I've ever had with delivery ever. I ordered two wardrobes June 29th with expected delivery of July 21st. I know that's awhile but the wardrobes were a good price and decent amount of space. My boyfriend and I were willing to wait on them, they are for the new house. The day comes for delivery and I call the shipping company and they said I should get a call back when they are about 30 mins away. I wait all day and I receive no call, no email, nothing. I call the next day and ask them where it's at and they tell me the same thing, you should expect a call. They also said that the wardrobes were STILL at Ikea. Also, Ikea has ONE customer service phone line. The customer service line is either a 50ish minute wait time OR they say they can't take your call and hang up. It's ridiculous. My delivery charge was $129! I called everyday since Tuesday (expected delivery date) and finally got ahold of someone on Friday. Funny thing is I got an email Thursday saying that my expected delivery date was that previous Tuesday...... like how are you going to email me that when it's late? I'm so confused. The guy I spoke on Friday (yesterday) with was very professional and helpful. He gave me a credit for half of my delivery charge and called the shipping company himself and scheduled my delivery for Monday. I gave him a good survey. (I'm not the type to give attitude to these types of customer service workers because their jobs can be really stressful.) I would say I'm a customer that's understanding. Got off the phone with Ikea yesterday (Friday) thinking okay great the delivery is coming Monday, the circus show is over. I get an email this morning saying my delivery is scheduled for Monday. Wonderful. About 2 hours later I get another email saying that it's scheduled for TUESDAY. Ugh here we go again. I call the shipping company, tell them I have the email RIGHT IN FRONT OF ME saying that the delivery is for Monday. The employee insisted that it was scheduled for Tuesday. I've just about had enough of the back and forth. I understand that there are delays due to COVID-19, etc however there needs to be better communication, more phone lines and lower delivery charges. I find it ridiculous how I have to run in circles trying to contact someone. If I pay $129 in delivery for a month to get my product , I should get that product on that day. I don't mind if it's maybe a 1-2 days late. But I've waited a whole month for this order and the terrible communication is a huge headache. And if there is a delay, there needs to be updates or someone reaching out to the customer to reschedule. Crazy. My phone wasn't working so I could not purchase a chest of drawers from their brick and mortar location. They apparently have an agreement you must sign acknowledging that they build a product that will fall and kill your children, and my phone wasn't working for me to be able to go to their website, receive an email, and make the acknowledgement. No alternatives exist to this process for you to be able to buy one of their dangerous products. What if someone simply had a dead battery? Why isn't there a tablet there where people can make this acknowledgement? They are also out of a lot of their stock, their great snack items, yet the lines are still crazy long. One thing that this company is known for is that they have functional pieces that won't break the bank. However, once the pieces are assembled, disassembling is usually not an option, and the life of the produce is also minimal compared to other higher-quality pieces. However, if these are not negative factors for you, you are able to find a great selection to spruce up your place or the necessaries for a recent move-in. I am a huge fan of their stuffed toys, as they are soft, plush, and made pretty well - honestly, I buy these for my pup, which she adores! The rug selection here is great, and I've purchased a few for my workplace - definitely beats the prices of PBs and the C&Bs! While the location is right off of the 95 near the Potomac Mills area, I find this location to be a bit more hectic, unless you arrive super early. The 'As-Is' section has more of a variety, compared to the other IKEA locations. Since I was a rebel and independently moved out of my parents' home when I was 18, Ikea has been my go-to for inexpensive furniture and home furnishings. Thankfully there were a few in a decent range from where I've lived during the past few years. There's a variety of different items in several types of quality (aka, "this won't last you more than 2 years" or "this may last you up to 5 years") and the prices fit my ballin' on a budget income. They pack everything efficiently so it's easy to fit into your car. For example: When I lived in San Diego, I somehow fit a king size bed frame, a set of drawers. a desk, AND miscellaneous items from the marketplace into my tiny Mazda (RIP) sedan. Although I'll buy nicer, higher quality furniture later down the line -- Ikea works out for me right now. Besides furniture, their marketplace has items that are bargain buys and useful. Standard IKEA. Very crowded as any ikea would typically be on a Saturday afternoon which creates a unique challenge when furniture shopping. During our hours there, we noticed that there was a constant, never ending, flow of traffic throughout the entire store. Parking is located in the adjoining garage, however during peak hours, such as the time we visited, it can still be a bit of a challenge trying to secure a parking space. Inventory was good. Came after a long day for a rug that wasn't in stock... so I picked up another one that was twice the price because I was tired and weak and I just needed a rug, else the doggie would continue to slip and slide and bang his little knees on the wood floor as we play tug-o-war. So I spend a long half hour deciding on the rug that I don't like as much as the one that's not here for half the price... and eventually I bring it to the cashiers. Except there are no cashiers. Every lane has been closed except for the self check out. Really? You're forcing me to check myself out? Why are there two employees assigned to this area? Can't one handle it while the other CHECKS ME OUT? I know - it's not a big deal... except for us tired elderly people without the technological whiz-bang gene it requires to make the damn barcode reader work, and then the combined energy and sense to read two separate screens telling me what button to press next. Needless to say, I had to call one of the employees over twice for help. (Between times, she was busy reading the paper with her colleague.) Yes, I should have been able to handle it... but sometimes you just want a little help, Ikea. And that's why I wouldn't stop and buy dinner on my way out. Too tired and frustrated. The person on the showroom was speaking to another customer (face to face), I waited patiently to ask her some questions of my own. She then tells us that she cannot speak to us face to face in order to get a kitchen order started, we have to plot and measure online first. So let's get this straight, you can speak to a customer face to face if they've completely plotted their kitchen online but not one that is right in front of you needing guidance? To my surprise I found a very clean cafeteria and yummy Swedish American food and left very very happy. IKEA is a practically a packaged blue and yellow gift to the Virginia area. It's nearly impossible to miss when driving down the highway...let the aura of it's presence draw you in, intimidating? Yes, but well worth seeing. You get to choose whether you want to park outside or in the garage but if you choose to go on the weekends, count on the parking garage, the outside will be fully packed 9.5/10 times you go there. Before I go any further, how's the look of the place? It's mostly shaped like a blue and yellow brick, very modern for today's standards but you won't find any curved lines for you aerodynamic fans. There are some exposed walkways but overall, it's basically a shoebox. However the interior is much different. If you enter through the garage use the elevator to enter the main floor where you'll be confronted by two giant escalators. If you choose to head up you'll find the furniture area each layed out according to room styles. In some areas, an actual room will be created, kind of like a movie set. These sets each have the furniture displayed as it would appear in someone's home. You are free to mess around in here as long as nothing breaks but it's great that IKEA used this attention to detail. If you wander around the area more you'll find sofas, chairs, office desks, office chairs, bedroom sets, and so on so forth. How I could forget the mattresses though? It's one of the largest I've seen in a furniture store. IKEA is unique, In that you don't actually buy the furniture complete, you have to pick it up at the warehouse downstairs, bring it home, and either have someone at IKEA put it together for you or you have to do it by yourself. Their have been some incidents where I've had a screw missing but it was replaced easily without concern. If you're concerned about putting the furniture together, it's fairly simple depending on what you get. My computer desk, bookcase, and bedroom chair were all assembled by me over five years ago and they are still assembled. Furniture aside, the downstairs has all the other crap you need in your house like kitchenware, glasses, rugs, plants, storage materials and even more you can think of. Don't worry, you don't have to build any of this stuff, it's already done for you, packaged and ready. I highly recommend getting IKEA's glasses, I own many of these sets and they are highly durable and hard to shatter. Not interested? Ok, still a lot more products to choose from. Have I mentioned about the food? IKEA has it's own café complete with classics like pizza, hamburgers and ice cream! Do not be fooled at all about the low price, I'm still surprised that they charge so little for food that tastes really good! I've personally had the hot dog with chips, pizza and ice cream and it's some of the best "Fast food" type of food that you can get. Oh, and if you have an IKEA card, chances are you can get some food items for free, SOME! The customer service really varies depending on who you have the pleasure of coming across. The cashiers I've never had a problem with and even the salesman on the sales floor usually have a pleasant attitude. The warehouse workers can come across has a bit rude but it's rare, it's excellent most of the time. So IKEA, one of the best furniture stores that you can find in North America, even around the world! Not only does it carry quality made furniture, but it also provides all the other household accessories you can need and at a reasonable price, and what's not to love about the cheap delicious food? Affordable, quick and friendly, IKEA still amazes how it can continue to operate like this with what they are charging for their items! If you're in the Northern Virginia area, chances are this is the furniture store you probably visit the most, and it may even be one of your favorites. To those who still haven't had the opportunity to experience an IKEA, it would be wise to at least take a day and take a walk around IKEA, you don't even have to buy any furniture! Just make sure to stop at the fast food area to try some of that amazing delicacies! It's a shame some states don't have an IKEA but even if you're just visiting around Woodbridge, even in the D.C. area, I offer you twenty dollars for you to get into your vehicle and drive down to IKEA, it's an experience well worth experiencing that has made shopping at this IKEA location turn into an adventure. IKEA is indeed awesome. They have any kind of furniture you would want, and their prices are rock bottom. You will need to assemble it yourself. It comes with directions -- don't be a fool and think you can do it without those those!! At the "start" grab one of the nifty carts and a the piece of paper they give you that has a list of each "habitat" (room) so you can keep track of what to get at the end. You will handle the product, deliver it to the register, pay for it, transport it, assemble it and then use it! Each piece of furniture comes with a ubiquitous allen wrench, so you rarely need any of your own tools. Once you go through the store, which mostly has actual rooms set up, you'll reach the actual furniture all packed into flat boxes in a warehouse type deal. The housewares (yeah they sell pots, pans, plates, decor, rugs and more) are inside the store not in the land o' flat boxes at the end. WHERE DO I EVEN START WITH YOU, IKEA? First of all, you just lost an $8,000 kitchen sale from me, and I will never be shopping at Ikea again. 1st issue; I paid for a kitchen measurement and in-store design. I took off of work early to be able to meet the person coming to measure. My parents drove 2 hours to Ikea for me and when we arrive to start the instore design, none of the measurements were able to be accessed. The first hour of the consultation was the "designer" trying to guess out our kitchen measurements by hand written drawings. But, according to designer, our shopping price list would be the same price give or take. I was ready to expect a little cost fluctuation of $500 or less. (Mind you I SHOULD NOT HAVE TO GUESS THE COST OF THE KITCHEN AFTER PAYING FOR THIS) 2nd issue; I couldn't actually purchase the kitchen because they could not verify the measurements were correct so their resolution was to schedule a follow up PHONE CALL, MORE THAN A WEEK LATER. OH HELL NO. You needed to fix this situation right away. So, I left Ikea with a shopping list for everything that totalled $5,700 and the counters quoted at $2,200 give or take a few numbers like I said. 3rd issue; I need to purchase my kitchen cabinets asap and cannot wait a week, so I take matters into my own hands and call the person that came out to measure to have him finalize and confirm all measurements for the designer. He confirmed everything a day or two later. I asked him if the pricing would change and he said it would not. SO I DRIVE BACK TO IKEA to get the updated shopping list and apply for the Ikea credit card. I'm in there for another 45 minutes before the designer has anything ready for me. She hands me a new shopping list that is $2,000 higher than the first time I came in during my consultation. TWO THOUSAND DOLLARS. I asked her why it was so much higher than what she gave me the first time and she said it was because "those cabinets are expensive". Why didn't she add these things to my design if they were necessary ?! She knew I was budgeting everything out. 4th issue; this employee did NOTHING to make the situation right. She threw away my papers and started helping other people when I went to consult my contractor on the phone. You all should have matched the first shopping list I was handed during my consultation. How was it my fault the measurements were not 100% correct. I wasted a lot of time trying to work with you and I regret it. terrible is all I have left to say. read more

When I was in college and in my early 20s I thought I'd eventually grow out of IKEA and start purchasing "adult" furniture. Surprisingly, IKEA seems to have really upped their design game and its style has really become more high end than the Malm dressers and Billy bookshelves we all grew up with. You still have to build-it-yourself (that's how they keep costs down) but the quality and design of their items has really improved. If you see something you love at West Elm just wait a year and IKEA will have a way cheaper option eventually (they had some awesome mid-century modern pieces when we were just there). We ALWAYS go on a weekday because weekends are slammed so we are able to leisurely walk around and get lost in the maze that is the IKEA showroom. My main gripe is that they should have more maps with each section labeled so finding something isn't quite as difficult. The restaurant is nothing to write home about and I think it's mostly there to keep people in the store as long as possible--it is also priced as such ($4.99 swedish meatball lunch). They have a great baby changing area equipped with an outlet and chair if you need to breastfeed or pump...another great way to keep families in the store. Hopefully they will continue to stay trendy with updated designs and low cost options. I'd hate to look for furniture anywhere else. read more

Almost like drama Ever since I have had a place of my own I frequent ikea for my furniture needs. Usually I just go with my own business with minimum help from the ikea staff and the experience was quite pleasant. Well until 2 weekends ago I was in thinking abt buying a mattress , I met a quite nice staff who not only recommended the mattress but also the bed frame and slat to go with it and he was really "helpful" enough to print a list for us. So we happily got the stuff home waiting for the new mattress delivery. Well This is where all the drama began. After I spent 2 freaking hours assembling the frame I found out the slat looked freaking short for a full size bed. Actually it turned out the location and item num the staff printed for us was for the twin size slat. So the first night with my new matress I put the frame aside and had to put my new matress on the floor. I had to drive back and change , I was trying to make sure I got it right this time. So I went back and asked specifically abt the slats cuz they got the simple slats and a bit fancy one. After consulting with them again I got the fancy one cuz I was told it is designed to be more stable. So this afternoon here comes drama 2, the 2 assembled slats could not fit in after trying for an hr which was way longer than assembling them. I don't wanna sleep on the floor again so I cut one inch from each side to put it in. Even that I was not satisfied cuz the head board was way too short for the matress. Totally not wut I had seen I the store. So I had no choice but to get another frame. That was when I start to find out how poor knowledge they have with their own product. The frame I bought was just supposed to match with the cheaper slats that is why It took so long and so difficult to put the fancy slat in cuz it was not meant to fit in the first place. So here is my situation again I had to dissemble the frame drive there the third time return it and get a taller frame assemble it again and I had this one inch shorter slat which could have fit perfectly inthis taller frame I need to get any way. I stick with the choice of glueing the one inch part back or get a new one . One simple bed frame and slat turned out to be quite dramatic the thing upsets me most is the time I had to put in just to get everything right. I guess the lesson I learnt is to try not to talk to the staff over there but more rely on their website. This store has been a long staple in the Potomac Mills area, and is a great place if you're looking for fairly inexpensive furniture that you'll likely get annoyed when trying to assemble. I went a few months back looking for some shelving units for a utility room (similar to the ones I've had for well over a decade). Well several hundred dollars later I found shelving and some other furniture pieces. Now word to the wise, most of their furniture is made out of cheap particle board, so if you move frequently this type of material doesn't hold up well with moving. They do have some solid wood pieces but you'll really need to read what the product is made from. I restricted any furniture purchases to solid wood pieces. They basically have just about everything you need to stock an entire house, although the store can be a bit of a maze and it always seems crowded so just be sure you have at least an hour or two if you want to venture there. They also have a restaurant onsite, its fairly inexpensive and the food is sort of cafeteria fare but its not bad as far as taste. I got the chicken meatballs, with a side of mashed potatoes and a cup of vegetable soup and drink for around $8, so its pretty economical. If you're on a budget and need to decorate or re-decorate, I'd recommend checking this place out. As far as assembly, fortunately I have a rather handy husband who has the patience to put the stuff together, otherwise, I would have probably just purchased the shelves for the ultilty room only. read more

IKEA is a good place to go shop when you have specific things in mind to buy. Else you will be forever lost in the huge store, wandering through the endless aisles :) IKEA quality, in my opinion, is two-faced. The majority of the stuff has the standard IKEA quality - you get sleek and cool looking furniture at a reasonable price and will last you as long as you dont move that bookshelf or the night stand, etc. much! Some of the newer offering have better than the usual IKEA quality but then you will be paying a pretty penny for that piece of furniture too! Case in point are some of the office furniture that we were in the market for - they are built solid but they cost as much as other mainstream furniture store - not necessarily a bad thing - but just something you would expect from IKEA (price not the quality) And of course there is Swedish meatballs - 'nuf said get yourselves some! The negatives for this location is the insane amount of time it takes to get to this store once you are off I-95 - all the hundreds of new retailers that have sprung up because of the popularity of IKEA. And also the parking - I wish parking at IKEA was a easy and streamlined as their products :) read more

So...... I've used IKEA furniture for multiple items and for the most part I've enjoyed it. Lately, IKEA has been getting worse and worse. The holes for furniture no longer aligns, the pants is chipping faster, the quality overall seems to just be constantly falling. NOW..... the only reason I'm writing this review is because I live 1 hour away from ikea and i LOVE my hemnes dresser, but I'm extremely upset. THERE IS GLUE STICKING TO THE WOOD. The actual glue that they use to keep the boxes together has been put on the wood. I am not able to get the glue off. I have to drive an hour to get a spare piece, this is ridiculous. read more

I never knew Ikea opened early for breakfast so this was a sweet surprise. I drive about 45 min just to get to this adult Disneyland. As always, they have the BEST prices. I chose the American Swedish breakfast and a side of bacon. Loved the breakfast potatoes, just the right amount of seasoning without being too salty. Crepes were good, eggs decent. I wasn't a big fan of the mousse. Will be coming back before shopping hours. read more

Worst customer service ever! I have been trying to cancel an order for a month. I call every day and can't get through to customer service. I went to the store and they tell me to call on the phone. Well that would be great if someone actually answered the phone. I have emailed and left messages on Facebook. All I get is a standard reply sent to everyone. I tried to cancel my order on the track my order page as instructed by an Ikea worker but I just get an error message. There has been no update to my order in a month!
