Disappointed w our experience this week; stopped by to look at their "higher end" cupboards, as they were recently JD Power & Assoc. rated. We asked a gentleman in the kitchen dept. for assistance with some questions about specific cupboards--he encouraged us to set up an appt., and when we tried to tell him we tried via the website help and phone number and neither seemed to be working, he cut us off and told us to try both places again. It was very apparent to us that he just wanted to shoo us off, handing us pamphlets and assuring us our questions would be answered by reading the information. Wow. Really disappointed w customer service. 1/12/202 UPDATE Went upstairs to get the recycling and trash inserts for our new IKEA kitchen but there were none on the shelves below the sale signs; when I finally locate a staff member he informs me the store is sold out of what we need and the items have been discontinued. So this kitchen staff member tells us to just go around the display kitchens and look in the drawers and take what we want if we can find the appropriate pieces we're looking for. Ok, so when I go through check out I'm told by the woman running the register that we're not allowed to buy the display items, to which I told her about my encounter upstairs, then she says if that's the case he should have given us a slip...? So I again tell her what happened and also mentioned that I had a hard time just getting the guy to help us, so of course we knew nothing about the slip of paper we were supposed to get. Fortunately a manager overheard us and told her to sell me the items. This is the second visit we'd had where staff in the kitchen area are not helpful and the place is slammed. It must be said that the ladies who helped us with some returns and warranty issues were stellar this visit. However since I've had two different experiences with problems in the kitchen area I'm changing my star rating to from a 2 star down to a 1 star. read more

In the last couple years, we've really become bigger shoppers at IKEA. I've always enjoyed wandering thru & browsing, but in the last couple years we have redecorated our kids rooms and needed new furniture. We are pleased with our purchases - from our son's sofa (which a piece pulls out & pops up to make a bed), to his dresser & bookshelf, to our daughter's bed (frame, mattress, duvet cover) desk & chair to my newest joy -- the Alex system which I am using as a vanity. Sometimes you may struggle to find someone to help you. And most times you are going to wait in line to check out (why do they have 8 bazillion registers if they only open up half a dozen at a time?). But the prices are good & the quality is decent. The downside - you have to build everything yourself. But in most cases we've never had any problems and assembly went smoothly. Oh! And then there's the cafe. My kids adore the meatballs. And I'm fond of the lingonberry sauce. Yum! read more

She searched high and low and finally found a desk and bookshelf online at IKEA. As I am the queen of order-online-and-pick-it-up-at-the-store, I decided to order online and pick it up at the store. I placed my order at 11:00 a.m., received an email letting me know my order would be ready at 4:00 p.m. and got a text at 2:30 p.m. letting me know my order was ready. We hopped in the car and drove to IKEA, found a parking spot in the "Click it and pick it up" area and 4 minutes later, Kevin brought our ouder out to us. Kevin was an absolute pleasure! Even though I clicked the button declining help, he helped my husband put the stuff in the car and laughed at all of our lame jokes. Thanks Kevin! The entire process from parking to pulling out of the parking lot took less than 11 minutes. Thanks IKEA! read more

The first impression coming here on a weekday and off-peak time, and incidentally still in the Covid era, is that they have the parking lot of a sports arena.  Wow, is it even possible to fill up this parking lot?  If it is, I most certainly would not want to be inside shopping during that time!  Nicely for us, it was very relaxed and uncrowded.  When uncrowded, it's a comfortable place to meander and putz around for knick-knacks that you don't know you want or need until you see it on the shelf, as well as get in some fitness steps just from the extra meandering through their honeycomb-like layout.  Prices can range anywhere from cheap to expensive depending on what.  But there surprisingly are quite a lot of possibly useful Dollar Store type items here as well, which is all we picked up on this particular day.  Probably the highlight of the visit for me was enjoying the side-effects of their unique layout and signs.  I got a chuckle out of seeing lost and befuddled people on every floor.  It's bound to happen.  Then, when we were trying to leave a floor, I decided to use their ubiquitous exit signs and ended up in a useless do loop, ha!  And it's not like we've never been in an IKEA. I should add that though this is my first and only review of an IKEA, we have over the years bought various other more substantial items like tables, chairs, maybe even a mattress if my memory is correct, etc from IKEA.  Everything we have bought that needed assembly was easy to assemble, and the modern, minimalistic styling of their furniture met our needs at the time. Do NOT buy your kitchen from Ikea. You will be subjected to attitudes, oversights, idiocy, being transferred around being hung up on, and piss poor quality and customer service all around. The good employees who helped me resolve were the exception not the rule. I had 5 days siphoned from my life solving errors Ikea made. I have always been hesitant to buy their cabinets and decided since this was a rental to try them. I've been managing design projects for 24 years and am used to mistakes, but if there is a Guinness book of world records for being the most incompetent business I've ever done business with, I hope it gets awarded to Ikea; they earned it, from the pink hair guy who initially messed up my order, and was so sad his gossip session with his co-worker was over when I showed up to place the order, to the rude woman in customer service who hung up on me because I didn't know a part number and asked if she could direct me to where I could find it'd or if I could speak to a manager, and the 16 other sales associates who made the story this long. We are nearly done installing and still feel it will be a miracle if we ever finish and it all holds up long enough to pay for itself, and the therapy I'll probably need after choosing to do business with them. Ever again, the stories you hear are true. It's not worth saving the money, even if it's half, even if they have the perfect shade I'd green cabinet. Just consider anyone but them. read more

I have no idea why I'm just now shopping here!!! It has to be the best furniture shopping experience I've ever had and this is during COVID-19 when things are a little bit different. It took some getting used to finding things myself and going through all of the floors but, I made it to the cashiers and the line was very reasonable for early in the day around 11am. Be patient with the delivery and pick up options they are still trying to get things organized because everyone is shopping now; it's a little difficult to contact someone online or by phone so it's critical to get all questions answered IN THE STORE! I ended up just renting a truck and picked up my items myself which I'm totally okay with since delivery is about the same price. I will be shopping here again for other rooms! I have never been in such a huge IKEA! They had a much larger selection than smaller, one-story locations. However, there were some things very strange about this one. For starters, there are no carts when you walk in the door, and in order to find one, you have to go upstairs and follow very scattered signage in what seems to be a VERY confusing maze. Most other IKEAs have a general direction or path that you walk to ensure that you can browse all of the sections - that does not exist here. Luckily we weren't there to browse, we just needed to pick up a couple things in the warehouse, but gosh was it confusing! I don't know how you could've looked at all of the sections without walking around in circles for eternity. They definitely need more arrows or signs telling you what sections are where because I literally couldn't even find a cart for the first 30 minutes. It was very chaotic and needs more organization or staff on the floor available to answer questions. read more

I was at Ikea Schaumburg Il. today 3/9/24. I found the store hard to navigate. I could not find what I was looking for easily and found it very frustrating. I like ikea and their products but what really got to me was the fact that the escalators that take your cart up and down where not in service which forced each customer to take the elevators. This was extremely time consuming and annoying. I will not be back to shop again until they fix this issue. Also as a side note they have yellow rolling baskets that at first glance seem to be very efficient to carry all your goods however are filthy and covered in garbage and human hair that should be wiped out on a daily basis. read more

IKEA has some good products, but TERRIBLE customer service. The options are online "chat", or calling their phone number. The only phone number one can get is their all-purpose toll free line where a robot offers a menu with NO options that match your problem. I was unable to order online because of a glitch where my debit card was rejected. It was a perfectly valid card. I had to get a ride to the store, 40 minutes away ON TOLL ROADS, to place my order (same card, worked fine). It cost me $38 more because the taxes in that county are so much higher. My order was large and HEAVY, so I opted for delivery. The drawer front of one of the dressers was damaged in a spot where it would be visible. Customer service says that delivery is not possible at this time and to call back "in a few days", or to just return it to the store! Those are my options. The ONLY options. I can PAY someone to put the box in the car so it can be returned, assuming I can get a ride to the store. A cab would cost a fortune. IKEA sucks. read more

I love the concept of IKEA -- a one stop shop for everything you could possibly need in your home, arranged neatly across 3-floors with a fairly good eatery as well. There's probably two things that come to mind immediately when you think area. 1. Amazing prices 2. Unique items I understand that there's a bit of assembly involved with many of their items, but if I can furnish a house beautifully without denting my budget much at all -- I'm totally for it. I also love how the designs here are simple and elegant but a bit different from what you'll find in most stores which almost seem to rebrand the same products with different names. Selection here is wonderful as the store is large enough to carry pretty much the high end and low end, large and small, simple and fancy versions of most anything you'll need for your home. In addition to great home goods, the eatery is full of delicious treats for very reasonable prices. Despite the cheap prices (cheaper than fast food for nicely plated items!), the ingredients are of good quality and cooking is fairly healthy. In particular, I love the meals with the swedish meatballs and salmon fillet. Overall, I wish there were more shops like IKEA. Great prices, great selection -- but most importantly it gives a complete enjoyable experience with plenty of space to walk, attractive displays, and great food options. read more

How much is the monthly rent, should I choose to live in IKEA? I am an avid IKEA window-shopper. It's always fun wandering around this huge multi-layer store, whether I'm in the market for furniture or not! There's a lot to see and shop through! If you're in a hurry, you may want to grab a map. For me, I'm usually just browsing, so I tend to just follow the arrows on the floor and discover things as I pass by. There's elevators and escalators for people and carts, for your convenience. IKEA is not a place for a quick shopping experience unless you know exactly what you're looking for. There's always a good number of sales associates on the floor to help if you're lost, though. What I love most about IKEA is how they display their rooms. They style their rooms in a way that inspires me, at least! They mix and match things that I wouldn't think would work, but they totally do. It's a great place to visit if you are looking for inspiration. (Or meatballs from the cafe. Those are pretty tasty, too!) Parking is pretty easy. They have a lot just for if you're moving heavy boxes to your car, which is nice. Also, if you're just browsing, there is a shuttle that goes from Woodfield Mall to IKEA and back periodically. It's worth checking out! read more

I was very concenred with how some of the displays were very crowded and it didn't feel safe at all

We bought an item at Ikea and got free shipping (as part of the Martin Luther King holiday sale?) for Monday, 1/20/2025 but it was canceled due to technical difficulties (no truck). The email told us that it would be rescheduled for Thursday, 1/23/2025 and to reply back or call 732-739-7200 if that didn't work. I got no redelivery text messages or notifications and I had to call back CRST Home Solutions and A said that Ikea rejected the new time and I had to call back Ikea to reschedule the delivery. Why did Ikea or CRST Home Solutions drop the ball and why do I have to start pushing the rock up a hill? IKEA manages its vendor relationships, not me. I was transferred to IKEA customer support who rescheduled the order, but then tried to charge $29.00 as an outstanding balance. I told the customer support agent that the IKEA store delivery employee said that it would be free, and she apologized and took off the delivery charge. Why did IKEA try to charge me when the IKEA store delivery person said that it was free? I know IKEA offers good prices, but am I getting what I paid for? Disorganization, trying to charge an extra delivery fee, and no responsibility for continuing my delivery? read more

A warning about IKEA in the time of Covid-- they are victims of the Covid supply-chain problem. If you go, keep in mind that some of what you want will probably be out. It's not their fault. It's Covid. Be patient. We were able to get the lamps & lightbulbs and nightstands we wanted, but not the rug. Kitchen is pretty slim pickings. And there were almost no mattress pads (the one I have from IKEA in the guest room is great, so I wanted one for the main bedroom. No such luck). Also, and this is very important, because of Covid, Småland is closed (or at least it was when I was there two weeks ago), and there were kids everywhere. Loud kids. Annoying kids. And worse, maskless suburban jerks with RBF and carts GOING THE WRONG WAY through the store (seriously, do they not see the arrows? And why is it just the maskless people who ignore the arrows? Wait, I know the answer. The people who ignore the mask mandate also disregard the arrows: They just don't care about their role in participating in a functional society). Again, not IKEA's fault. The cafe is open, but with limited selection. I warn against grabbing a salad from the fridge (it tasted like fridge) but the hot foods were good. But here is the pro to a post- (or during, I guess) Covid IKEA: They've put the Swedish food market BEFORE the checkouts now! So you can grab your Daim chocolates, frozen marshmallows, meatballs, Kristian Regale, and elderberry syrup before you check out and only pay once. It's so much better this way! I hope it's permanent. (Pro tip: Try the veggie dogs, even if you're not a vegetarian). read more

I've made it out to this location quite a few times over the past couple of years. Whether you're looking to just browse and kill time or actually shop for home furnishings and decor, you can easily get lost for a few hours in IKEA's labyrinth. The showroom is distributed over 3 floors with a centralized cafe in the middle for you to refuel as needed. On the weekends, it always seems to be busy no matter what time of day. Anyways, IKEA always a great place to look at space ideas and inspiration and pick up on more affordable furniture & storage options. Quality 3.5 stars. Experience 4 stars. It's been quite awhile since I've been back to Ikea. I'm currently working on building out a semi-permanent closet for my boys' super tiny closet in their room (the not-so-joyful part of owning an older vintage home--small closets). I'm looking for a particular set of drawers to fit into the closet, and it's not easy. When in need of a random inexpensive option, Ikea is typically a good place to go. One thing Ikea does well is their closet systems. Pax rules, but the drawer inserts are $40 a drawer (boo). I found myself in the children's section, and they are having a Stuva sale. Stuva is a great storage option for less, and will most likely be my go to. My advice, is to not forget to check out the children's storage solutions. Aside from closet drama, my hubby and I had a fun time just kicking back and checking out the store. The sofas are all so uncomfortable for daily TV watching (I know, we own one...our biggest regret ever). We found a couple of well made dining room tables, cute side tables and mirrors, but all in all, I feel like the furniture is getting cheaper in quality and more expensive. Is that possible? We will be back for dishes, lighting, frames, bookshelves, and accessories, but I'll be spending my hard-earned dollars on sofas and chairs elsewhere. Prices are no longer amazing (especially not for a temporary solution). Also note, storage bins are pricey! We made the trip thinking we could pick up a bunch of bins on the cheap, but there is no longer the need to travel. I went here on Easter Sunday and I scanned almost every bedroom dresser they had and NOTHING was in stock for bedrooms or living rooms. I was so disappointed and online is just the same. I know there's a shortage but they should at least have a notice because the warehouse was looking bare. Just a large amount of a few (many items just not as many as the warehouse should) items. One problem I've had with IKEA is the furniture tends to be a little on the cheap side, not just in terms of the price, but the quality as well. It seems like whenever we found anything that really caught our eye they were usually "OUT Of Stock". We went to "at Home"on Meacham next to Costco to try and find a replacement for the cheap ass chair we bought @ IKEA, but were unable to find the chair we wanted. So like a habitual criminal that never learns from their mistakes we went back to IKEA searching for 2 matching replacement chairs. After perusing the selection of chairs they had available on the third floor in the dining area we were unable to find what we were searching for. We wandered down to the second floor in the desk area where we were told there were more chairs, but unfortunately we weren't able to find anything there that matched what we wanted. Maybe do an online search to try and find what we need. The only problem is I like to touch and see what I'm buying in person instead of a picture on line. Ahhh the search continues.... read more

I went there to see if they had a glass cabinet, and there was no sign saying it was sold out, so I went to see if they had any on the bottom floor. They did not, so I stopped off at the customer service area and there was an Asian guy there (I did not get his name.) This was on Friday around noon, and I asked him if they possible had more. He told me in a very condescending tone that sometimes they don't always put sold out signs on there, and they'd have more in a month. I said that won't really help me as I want to get it done, so I walked off and came back and asked him if they had any at Bolingbrook. It turned out they had three left, but then he goes "well that was this morning so you'd probably be wasting your time in going." He was honestly just a huge JERK about the whole thing, from his demeanor to his attitude about it. I understand that we're still in a pandemic, and he's probably dealt with a lot, but I was not nasty in any way to him, and I felt like I didn't deserve to be talked down to that way. I went to Bolingbrook despite his warning and ALL THREE were still there. I'm also giving it two stars as the woman who works up by the couch section (blonde hair, heavy accent) is beyond amazing at her job and super helpful and she always has a smile on her face. Over the years and most recently purchased wardrobe, shelves, multimedia furniture (Besta), couches, and two kitchens from this location. Overall quality of less expensive shelving units is barely adequate; choose Besta instead. The quality of wardrobe is descent for Pax; however, the assembly time is considerable and convoluted. The quality of kitchen cabinets and fronts is decent and rivals much more expensive similar European kitchens from Spain or Italy. The downside is difficulty finding people to help right away, consistency in damage to items in delivery (even though it had gotten better), and really importantly inability to get replacement pieces to cabinets - damage backing or any other part of a cabinet - got to buy a whole thing! Calling corporate IKEA does not help. Overall a decent place to shop for modern designed furniture. The service of the sales people, delivery, and ability to replace parts of cabinets needs improvement. read more

This is a warning story to everyone who has an Ikea visa credit card. The rewards certificate you earn expires in 2-3 months. I would say 2 months because you'd have to wait for the statement and the rewards which eats probably a whole month. Ikea wouldn't honor it even if it had expired like the day before. This Ikea gave me the runaround saying the credit card company could reissue the reward certificate, which wasn't the case and the Ikea customer service actually hung up on me. I was not even mad or anything when I was on the phone with them. But if you are a credit cards reward member, realize that they don't want you to redeem these rewards nor would they help you in any way even as a first time courtesy.
