The return department is a time vortex. Always short staffed. Interactions take forever. For example I hand the clerk a sealed product with the receipt attached and he asks me "what are we doing today?" I hate to be captain obvious, but come on! Okay I'm not rating the furniture aspect of the Ikea. I'm talking about the food. The selection was limited but then again this is literally a furniture store... The food we ordered off the serving line was both hot and cold. Almost like they mixed refrigerated servings with the ones already on the hot plates. Bought a few items online for my place. Since the store is closed and I couldn't see the items in person, I ordered multiple colors. When they came in, one was a clear winner. They were $60 for a set of 4 thin panels and were VERY cheapo. They have a decent return policy - can return within a year to the store. When the stores opened up, I went in to return the colors we didn't want. Dang the people in customer service are THE SLOWEST people I've ever met. I watched a girl take 10 minutes to basically sit down, and then another 5 minutes to login to the computer, and then another 5 minutes to ask the customer to come up to the register to process the return. The line itself took 20 minutes to enter the store and I was only the 3rd person. When I entered it took another 20 minutes. ‍ read more

Came to pick up an order and they had me pull into a spot and then proceeded to forget about me :(. I was being patient because I knew they were busy and that it's probably tough during the pandemic. However, things felt wrong after waiting for an hour and seeing so many people who came after me get their orders. I finally got out and asked and the lady was shocked. Workers are polite but wish they had it down better! Nobody even checked in with us or noticed us waiting for so long at all.. Anyway asides from that, remember to have your order number and ID for order pickup. I come here with the wife to help furnish her classroom. Most times it's like a game of hide and seek within this monstrous maze. There's tons of cheap items here from indoor to outdoor as well as pretty damn good food. The Swedish meatballs, frozen lemonade and flavored carbonated waters are all very good and reasonably priced. Also, you can't come to Ikea and not get an ice cream. I choose the non fat cause I'm on a diet though I'm always large and in charge... The staff are friendly and move quickly. Parking is always difficult and I tend to find myself parking closer to Costco than IKEA but it's manageable. If you're in the market for an area rug or even an sofa, this is a good place to consider. The quality of the furniture and everything else they offer here is surprisingly good. As long as you're willing to assemble, you can save a few bucks compared to other furniture stores. Just make sure you have tools otherwise you'll be in for a long day or night. During our trip to San Diego of course we had to make the pilgrimage to IKEA. Of course, the kids are now too old to check into the Kid's Area (now that they're 9, 13 and 16) but you know... It WAS nice to see furniture at (kinda) reasonable prices though. I had more fun watching the kids and their cousins play "this is our room" when we went pass the bedroom and kitchen display areas upstairs. We didn't eat in the upstairs cafeteria but grabbed some snacks in the fast food area downstairs. I highly recommend the meatballs and other Swedish / Western themed food plates from the cafeteria, though. With a huge parking lot, good WIFI, a sizeable loading area for vehicles, it's one store worth checking out. read more

Since Ikea was close by my driver and I decided to go and see if they had opened up the small cafeteria there as we were ready for a quick late lunch. We were happy to see there weren't a lot of people in there meaning there was no line. They're offering some new items at excellent prices. If you have not been there I'll let you know that the food is very basic and very healthy. I know surprising right? The deserts looked very tempting but I pass on it this time. I ordered the vegetarian balls approximately 6, mixed fresh vegetables and a rice with marinara sauce. $3.99. My driver got the chicken tenders with french fries and vegetables $6.99 what a deal! They provide NO support or reconciliation for countertop disputes if there is a problem. And since payment was made in full up front, you have no recourse to have the problem fixed. It has been years since I visited this location. Kinda ridiculous we decided today to visit when it was like 100 degrees. But, my grams and I wanted a few things. And what better way to spend time with family than in a huge building with free a/c :) This plaza is a joke with Costco Gas. The line to get gas starts all the way from Friars. No kidding - even on a weekday. There's someone just manning the entrance of the gas station but it's still a cluster. IKEA is still as huge as I remember. We walked in and had to acclimate a bit as both of us weren't sure what to do. Plus, my grandmother is older now so I try to have her use elevators whenever possible. The super amazing greeter (?) was so helpful and welcoming. He showed us where to go, gave us a bag, then a bag with cart, and told us to have a fun time. It was like Disneyland. The set up is still fun. Mock rooms are set up with furniture and design ideas. My grandmother spent quite a bit of time exploring and making notes of how she'd like to decorate items. It's easy to get lost but just make sure to follow the arrows that are on the floor (see pic). We were looking at a sofa bed and Michael, a staff there, was superb. He was so genuine, helpful, insightful. I doubt they work on commission here as there was no upsell. He even gave me a map of this location when I told him I was nervous of getting lost. Remember there are 2 floors here. You start with the top floor and work yourself down to the first. Restaurant/cafe is upstairs but there was a huge wait just to get super affordable cafeteria style food. Next time for sure. I found the pillows I wanted and came for on the first floor. I'm so excited to try them out. Make sure to join the FAMILY MEMBERSHIP program. It's FREE. You get a bunch of perks which include : free coffee each visit, BOGO meatball entree, and not sure what else . You also get special discounts - my pillow was $1.50+ off or something with my membership. Checking out was simple. And the check out lady was so friendly. You can get coffee, hot dog, cinnamon rolls by the check out. I got my free coffee and $1 cinnamon roll. AND, the cashier there was so nice. She totally smiled when she sensed my excitement about the hot coffee and the $1 cinnamon roll. Hope the items work out well and we return in the near sure for another fun visit. read more

Very poor customer service. I went to I pick up a bed I ordered online. He asked if I received an email that the order was ready. Before I could answer a coworker asked a question and he proceeded to help him. I waited patiently then the guy said I needed the confirmation email. I have ordered a mattress and paid to be delivered at my door, after getting delayed for several hours , got the notification that it was delivered which it wasn't . I contacted them and because it was late they told me to contact next day. I called them next them and it appears it was delivered to wrong address. Asked them to redeliver but they said they can't do it on same day , I was on the phone for 2 hours the guy wasn't able to help me I asked for a manager 3 times and after 1 hour and half I was able to talk to a manager and asked for refund . They process the refund , I called 2 days later to follow up which they said it'll show up on my card in 5 days which it didn't . Called again and they said they redeliver the address to the correct address although I asked for refund. I didn't get the mattress have no idea what happened and they are not refunding me. I am really disappointed with IKea customer service. I'll do police report for sure but it's sad that they are not taking responsibility for their mess read more

I went to IKEA in San Diego for the first time ever a few days ago. I've heard so much hype about the store for years and wanted to see for myself. I ordered an item on line and went to pick it up and walk around to see the place. I parked by the order pickup area and walked to the main store area. I felt like a cow being herded in along the aisles (backwards tho as I came in the wrong way) I found a few things to buy then went to pick up my item I ordered. The staff were all nice but I won't be going back. The entire concept of the store was not to my liking. Big carts, the "herd" feeling. Like they want you to buy buy buy! It's a giant sprawling warehouse with a giant sprawling showroom that snakes and winds and turns you in a hundred different directions. This Ikea is the same sort of behemoth for which all Ikeas are infamous. For the record I hate coming here. They share their parking lot with a very busy (when is it not?) Costco, and an also very busy Lowe's. It's WWIII just maneuvering in and out of the parking lot. Then once you get inside it's WWIV getting through the crowds. For some reason my 13 year old daughter thinks IKEA furniture is the height of bedroom fashion. Since my husband (her dad) insists on spoiling her and giving her nearly everything she wants, I've been dragged here several times over this past year for a desk, a nightstand, a small set of shelves, and yesterday a bureau. With all that said the furniture is cute, reasonably priced, and easy enough to put together (IF you have a PhD in aerospace engineering, like my husband). The staff is always on the sales floor, and if we have questions , they always have answers. So it's basically the same as every other IKEA. Shop at your own peril. read more

I've usually had good experiences here in the past, however today's visit left my family and I feeling snubbed and discriminated against... I don't want to take away from all the other employees we encountered...Jasmine the girl who checked us out was great. There was a gentleman in textiles who helped us out and was friendly. The staff in the restaurant were all nice and friendly. As we were going to check out, there weren't really a lot of people in line. We headed to a register because there was no one ahead of us. The cashier (I didn't catch her name, but she was a white, blonde female) was on the phone. My husband was pulling into her register, looking directly at her. She looked at us, turned off her light, and faced away from us. That's fine if you had to go on break or were busy taking care of something else, but at least acknowledge us! We would have been fine if she said sorry, but it's my break time or I'm done with my shift....but we got nothing. So did you know that Ikea sells bikes? I am going to start with this tidbit since I thought that it was unusual for a furniture to sell bicycles. I was happily surprised and I should have bought it when I had a chance. One could purchase additional accessories such as front basket, rear rack, and even a tow trailer. It's pretty sweet. It has a disc break in the front and drum brakes in the rear. Oh did I mention that it has two speed integral gears that shifts for you automatically. Next I am going to cover the food menus at the cafe and at the other location where you can buy hot dogs and pizza. You can't really go wrong, if you want something healthy you can opt for the salmon and veggies and yes there's always the meatballs. Now let's really cover what Ikea is famous for, inexpensive furniture. Yes they all come in a flat boxes which is what the Ikea brand is all about. It makes it easy to transport and if you buy enough stuff at Ikea you will be a pro at putting just about everything and anything together. My experience was in one word: terrible. I purchased a nightstand and due to a defect, I needed a replacement part. I called the customer service line and they informed me I would only need to go into the store with the part (not the whole item) and it would be replaced. I specifically request some time off for work, I drive 40 min down to the store, go to returns/exchanges and was informed that the wait would be about 30-35 min. I asked the employee at Customer Service if he could first check if they had the part. No, he said. Weird but fine. I wait 30 min and guess what? Surprise, surprise! NO PART and NO MORE NIGHTSTANDS. Why couldn't you have told me this 40 min ago? Another employee then informs me that I can sign up online to get notified when more nightstands are in stock. Fine, I do that. I then ask him if there's anyway to reserve one? Nope. How about when I get notified, is there a number where I can call just to confirm that it's in stock? Nope. So. Let me get this straight. You want me to request more time off of work, drive another 40 min here, wait another 30 min only to possibly be told again that there are no nightstands and to "come back another day"?! You've got to be kidding me. I ask to speak to the manager regarding this process of getting a replacement part and she comes and quite unprofessionally accuses me of breaking the part. Then when I ask if there is anyone I can file a complaint with, she tells me that it's her. I ask if there's some paperwork I can fill out for a paper trail and she says no. In fact, she tells me that she'll "verbally" tell her managers but "doubt[s] anything will change." Sure. Such sincerity. Look, I understand it's not anyone's fault that the store is out of stock and that the employees are bound by policy. And sure, I can come back when the item is in stock. It's the fact that IKEA is not willing to confirm that something is in stock that is ridiculous. If the process is doesn't work it should be fixed! The blatant disregard for a customer's time and resources is beyond despicable. That manager's inability to recognize this difficult situation, inability to empathize and insincerity in trying to resolve the situation was just the icing on top of this crap cake. I ordered 2 desks on the day they said their stock is arriving which was on July 31. I chose a delivery date of august 8 because that's when the renovations in the condo are finished , they emailed me on Agustin 6 that my furniture is arriving on august 8 between 10 am to 2 pm . The day before th e delivery they told me they gave me my refund back . I never cancelled my order . They gave the furniture that I ordered to someone else . Worst IKEA trip ever. We went with the intention of purchasing 3 kids furniture and they were out of stock for all of them. We went to the cafeteria and they also didn't bother to restock the items. There were no cake slices and no garlic toast left. We pointed those out because they didn't seem to realize and they said it would take more than 10 minutes to get them ready. The lines were long so we didn't want to bother waiting around. The cashier told us we could get free coffee and tea as part of the IKEA family benefits but when we got to the drinks counter, all the teabags were out and the brewed coffee were also out. We came back to the drinks counter after finishing our Swedish meatball lunch and they still hadn't restocked the coffee and tea. I saw other people trying to get condiments and those were out too. I have no idea if it's just this IKEA location being problematic or if IKEA is going downhill in general. read more

On June 6, 2023, I sent a letter (via email) to IKEA San Diego (attachments not included). Letter edited for brevity. "IKEA Resolutions Department Dear Sir/Madam, I am writing to request resolution of an issue that has resulted in my potentially losing over $300 without receiving any product from IKEA. On April 15, 2023, I ordered and paid for a set of materials for installing a cabinet. The scheduled delivery by T-Force (third-party delivery service) was set for April 19, 2023. All items were in stock and ready for delivery. On the day of the delivery, the delivery person noticed that the cabinet doors were not in his truck. Although he did not mark the items in the delivery receipt as delivered, he took it back telling me that he will arrange delivery because it may have been in another truck. I should have taken a picture of the delivery receipt. Unfortunately, I completely forgot about the non-delivery and called IKEA Customer Service on or around May 19, 2023. I was assigned Case Number 69216572 that confirmed my eligibility. At that time, the IKEA CSR acknowledged the non-delivery and told me the parts were to be delivered on Monday, May 22, 2023 and to await a phone call from T-Force. A week passes with no call from T-Force. I then called IKEA Customer Service again. The CSR pointed out that an email was sent to me on May 19, 2023 telling me to report any non-delivery within 48 hours (which was May 24, 2023). I did not expect to get this requirement since the CSR on May 19 just told me to wait for a phone call from T-Force but not to watch out for an email with s strict deadline. I do not always monitor my email but I would have if I were told to do so CSR then stated they could not help me and advised seeing the CSR at the San Diego store. On May 30, 2023, I went IKEA and saw the Returns Resolution Manager April (no last name). She informed me that since I did not report the missing delivery within the mandated 48 hours that she could not help me. Flatly, I am out over $300, unless you can help. The policy was explained to me and I do understand why it is in place. However, a strict, "one size fits all" application of the rule does not allow for circumstances that might lend to some allowances, such as mine. The way I see it, there is some room for allowances: First, when I called on May 20, 2023, IKEA CSR did acknowledge that the parts were not delivered and arranged for a future delivery two days later. I was even assigned a case number that confirmed my eligibility. Second, I WAS told to wait for a call from T-Force to schedule the actual delivery. Third, I WAS NOT told to watch out for an email mandating a 48-hour non-delivery reporting period. I did not expect this and was not looking out for it. The circumstances above should allow for a relaxation of the IKEA policy. I am thus requesting IKEA take one of the following actions: either deliver the doors as promised back on May 22, 2023; or refund the balance for the doors and delivery (around $311). I think, under the circumstances, IKEA can act fairly on my claim. I look forward to an affirmative resolution of this issue. Please do not hesitate to reach out to me if you have any questions. I love the esthetic of Ikea- modern, simple, casual. Over the years their designs have improved and their prices have remained competitive. One of main reasons their prices are low is you have to assemble the pieces on your own. Time consuming and a little annoying but still worth it. What I'm not willing to accept is their terrible customer service. This negative review is about their return department. Sure everything is great when you purchase items but try to make an exchange/return and it's a nightmare. They have a great return policy (one year with a receipt) but what they don't tell you is that you have wait FOREVER in the return line. When I got there, there were 15 people ahead of me. One register open. The first 20 minutes I stood there, only 1 person was helped. I went over to complain to a manager who could care less about customer service. Instead of trying to resolve the issue and retain me as a customer, she proceeded to make excuses why they couldn't open more registers or speed up the process and seemed bothered I was bringing up this issue. Meanwhile multiple staff members were coming by to "chat" with each other and one guy was on a register doing who-knows-what but was not helping any customers. After waiting 45 minutes, they finally opened another register. After one hour of standing (because all the seats were taken), sure I got my refund but after such disappointing customer service, I will not be supporting Ikea like I used to. So purchase items with caution or be prepared to waste your time waiting in a long return line. read more

While IKEA has some cool and unique items, it's not worth it.   To get in and manage buying anything larger than nicknacks is too much of a pain.  So i thought, easy, I'll just order what i need online and avoid the hassle.  HAH.  that was a mistake. Their online system is possibly the most frustrating online shopping experience ever, period.  I tried their build a desk system where you choose components.   After trying various combinations for 2 hours, I could not find anything that would actually work at check out.  There is no way to say "Show me only items available".  So you just have to keep trying colors and combinations, and then at checkout it says, sorry some of your items are unavailable.  Doesn't even say which ones. So, I tried pre-made configurations.  EXACTLY the same issue.  I could not find any that were actually in stock at the warehouse available to be shipped. It was a waste of 4 hours.  Finally talked to customer service - Not in Sweden btw, clearly in India.  And they were unable to provide any useful information. What a shame.  Has so much potential, and it's management is just a hot mess. read more

We began our Ikea kitchen design last October and it is now mid February. After purchasing the parts needed to build our kitchen, we have been met with a series of errors and crappy compromises. First off, we have an average sized kitchen and ordered basic cabinets and they still never got the order straight. We paid $79 for an official measurement and that measurement was incorrect. The excuse was new staff.... After 3 deliveries of random goods, delivered to the sidewalk in front of our house, we also had to go buy more parts and return wrong parts 9 times within a month and a half. All during a Global pandemic and no phone payments or orders taken. We had to travel south 40 minutes each time, go into the corn maze and pay and then drive 5 more miles east to their warehouse for pick up. Our final plan shows the upper cabinets going to the ceiling but when they were building it out we were told that was not an option/not part of the plan? We used Traemand because supposedly they know how to build Ikea designs but they proved to be a huge disappointment and were a integral part of the confusion with all the conflicting parts we ended up with. The final straw was that they built one whole side of our kitchen incorrectly. We could not open our fridge because the wall oven and microwave area was too close to the fridge door. Keep in mind we gave the Ikea designers and Traemand all appliance cut out dimensions in the design and build phase. The only resolution Ikea had was to have Traemand move our cabinets on that wall 2 inches to the right. This required that our countertop on that side be removed. American Marble works in conjunction with Ikea kitchens so we used them. Ikea would not agree to anything unless we came into the store once again and pay an additional $1300 dollars for a new countertop, in the event they could not use the original one. What could we do? we were stuck with appliances that could not be installed! We paid thinking they could reuse the piece since it was a simple cut that only needed to be shortened 2 inches on one side. Traemand came back out and all fits somewhat but the appliances still look crowded on that side so not aesthetically pleasing. While waiting for American Marble to reinstall, they took forever to get back to us, insisted on a $225 measure appointment for that minor adjustment that could have been done on site. When I finally called and asked what the delay was they said the countertop for that side needed to be remade and it would be another 2 weeks. At this point I lost it. I questioned why they needed to replace that piece and they said they didn't know (I'm just a scheduler). I guess it's easy to just press that button and buy when the expense is on another person. After sending a nasty email to the trio (Ikea, Traemand and America Marble), I was told by American Marble that they could actually reuse that countertop piece after all. Still 2 weeks to wait for a half hour install. I still haven't gotten a response from Ikea. Also, the Traemand carpenters had to Jerry rig an area on that messed up side so when Best Buy came to install the wall oven and microwave with trim kit, no go. It doesn't fit. Traemand excuse was we didn't use Ikea appliances. Funny appliances are all standard sizes and we weren't told any of that when we gave them the cut out dimensions over 3 months ago. We since hired a Task Rabbit to come and resolve their screw up. I can't wait to have to go back into Ikea and try to get a refund for that additional countertop we paid for, The moral of this long story is you get what you pay for! I chose Ikea because I love the modern look and the price seemed good. In the end, it would have been better to see out a more professional, quality cabinet designer and builder. God knows what I will be paying for therapy and blood pressure medication in the future! read more

This Ikea makes me anxious in a way no other place does! Seems like a death trap! Was around Marketplace and needed to exit. Signs pointed me to lighting, another sign there pointed me to housewares, and another sign there made me go towards clocks/wall art. After 15 minutes of going in circles, I asked an employee for help, he told me to read the signs and walked away. I want to thank the customer who noticed I was sweating bullets, skin pale and flush, and was hyperventilating; she helped me find an exit. Why do they make people go around in endless circles to get out?! How does a sales floor plan like this get approved by the fire marshal? In an emergency, we'd all be trapped. read more

Why IKEA only has three stars, I do not know. It is a marvelous place. Like visiting a museum where you can buy things. I love it!! So many good and inexpensive products that are well designed! It's a pleasure just to walk through the store and see the beautiful rooms. My only complaint is that IKEA's return policy is stringent. I'm in fear of losing my receipt. I wish they were as good as Costco in this regard. They aren't. Still, IKEA is fun. read more

This place is too overly stimulating. It is literally a zoo to walk around and shop here. Hubby and I came looking for storage ideas for our nursery and ended up finding something but I wouldn't say prices are cheap. Quality is cheap, prices definitely add up. They sell a frame or a base and by the time you finish adding the accessories (shelves, bins, etc) to go with it... you'll find, you probably should have just gone to Target. A lot of items are not environmentally friendly- made from plastic and looked like they could easily fall apart, thereby leading to more trash. Also, with the amount of people in the store, I found it to be unbearably hot in the building. Bathrooms had no ventilation and as a consequence smelled foul upon entry. They do have some nice ideas on storage space; however. I just don't think I'll plan to come back between parking, value, and cost... this will probably be my last experience here. read more
