Went to buy a sofa today at Ethan Allen. We were greeted by the receptionist and handed off to a designer. We found a nice sofa that was on clearance for a good price of $1299.00. I have two strong boys that are 25 and 28 years old and a really big pickup truck. I told them that we would be paying in cash and that my boys would be able to take the couch..... WRONG !!!! I was told they have a mandatory $200 delivery charge ! I would call it a hidden profit center. Now that I realized that the good price wasn't what it appeared I told my wife let's get out of here. When I questioned them about it they had 5000 excuses ready to justify the cost. In the spirit of being Honest why not have a sign up front so everybody can see it upon entering the store or at least specify on the price tag the mandatory added cost ??? Makes me sick with these shenanigans...... read more

NEVER-WE walked in and asked "where can I see Grey leather couch?", The lady at the front desk said "I don't know!, walk around and look" and she never got up. I was hoping for help because my friend uses a cane and it is difficult for her. After a while of wandering around the MAZE we finally found one other person and she let us know they had none. I went to Ethan Allen because I had had a good experience there many years ago and I expected it to be the Premium Furniture Retailer it used to be. It was not at all the case this time around. I spent quite a chunk of money buying a custom-made sofa, two custom-made barrel chairs, an end table, a hallway bench, and an entryway console. The design services offered turned out to be a big disappointment. I waited a long time to receive my order and it came piecemeal style. I ordered a firm cushion sofa which is what I had previously, and I liked it. My previous sofa came from Ethan Allen and I knew what to expect. The sofa was first to arrive and the cushions were wrong. It took over six months for the replacement cushions to arrive. The new cushions are not right either, they still leave a big divot when you sit on them. I was told that these were their best cushions, but I am unfortunately stuck with them. The throw pillows arrived with not much down stuffing in them, they were as flat pancakes. I contacted my salesperson and asked if I could please get new inserts with more down stuffing in them. I had pillows from Ethan Allen before and, again, I knew what to expect. They had to send someone out to inspect the pillows as was required with the sofa cushions too, and he agreed that my concerns were valid. It took months for me to receive new inserts and they were foam inserts that are stiff and not at all what I paid good money for. I am still waiting for new inserts and it's been months of waiting again. My original order was placed in early February 2023 and I'm still dealing with them to get things right. When I expressed my concerns to the Interior Designer/Salesperson, she sent me an email saying that she no longer wanted to work with me and referred me to her manager. I am a senior citizen and I have made many furniture purchases in my lifetime. NEVER in my entire life have I received such poor and unprofessional service and inferior product for the amount of money I spent. Ethan Allen is no longer the high-quality furniture retailer that it used to be. I WOULD RECOMMEND THAT YOU GO ELSEWHERE IF YOU WANT QUALITY OF PRODUCT AND QUALITY SERVICE. Very disappointed in the quality and comfort of my special order sofa. I waited several months for delivery. The sofa is poorly made, uncomfortable. I immediately notified Ethan Allen and my designer. The designer came to my home and agreed the sofa was a disaster. Then Ethan Allen sent a technician to have a look. Again it was acknowledged that this sofa was very poorly constructed. Then the service department called and offered to replace the cushions. This isn't an option because the middle section doesn't line up with the two end sections. When I expressed my disappointment I was told the design department would need to make the decision to replace the sofa. The design center says the other department or store manager must make this decision. I was again told the "offer" is to correct the seat and back cushions. The issue of the poorly aligned center section is being ignored. This isn't my first purchase from Ethan Allen and therefore I'm especially disappointed in the decline of customer service and the current quality of their furniture. This sofa cannot be in my home. My current option is to donate this sofa and have another company finish this room and the other rooms read more

'spensive! Quality used to be higher, most recent visit shows that EA is sliding into more of the Jerome's level, but trying to keep the pricing up. Be aware that each EA store is independent, so no support from corporate, should you have problems. I bought a rug from them, to surprise my wife. She hated it (was very surprised!), and the return process was a nightmare. (Return attempted within one day, no use, no tags removed, etc.) Finally negotiated store credit towards a more "acceptable" rug, but cash return/credit was not an option. Overall, I do not see this location as an option for future business from me. read more

I've always wanted to purchase nice furniture after having to replace the less expensive pieces every 5-10 years. I can tell this furniture should last at least 20 years. The Sales guy Robert assured us the fabric we picked would work and be easy clean up. Well it's the most uncomfortable sectional and shows everything. For the money we spent we got screwed. We were planning on buying furniture from Ethan Allen; maybe not the whole house as we are starting with the living room but the design services representative discouraged me on every step of the way. When I told her I had visited the store in la Mesa in the past, she disrupted me telling me they had close that store "so I would know". Then she told me Clairemont was very far away for me; I told her I drive every day to north county as my kids attend a private school in Del Mar. I told her we had recently painted our living room and our family could not decide on style and design and that I had donated all my furniture already. Then she said the orders take 2-3 months. I said that it was a bummer but that we were thinking about taking our time to furnish the whole room. After a couple of questions about flooring and window treatments, I could feel she was hesitating on really treating me as a potential customer. When again I mentioned we would start with a few purchases; she told me what was no point on spending time on planning if there was no purchase involved for sure. Than I remembered some language on the website stating " no surprises. No obligation. It's free and it fabulous". At that point I told her I was done with the call as she definitely does not know how to service a potential customer. " no surprises. No obligation. It's free and it fabulous". ??? I would add ... but the representatives will make you feel like crap if you end up wasting their time. Forget about Ethan Allen and "free design services". I read all of the reviews and was a little put off by all of the negative reviews. I pre-selected my sofa online and was very apprehensive about going to the store and ordering it. However, I couldn't find a sofa of comparable quality anywhere else in San Diego, so I decided to order it. I went to the design center about three times before ordering, and each time I found the staff to be very warm and helpful. I worked with Marlene to order my sofa and she was extremely knowledgeable, friendly, and patient. She helped my choose the perfect fabric for the sofa, accent pillows, and trim. I would definitely work with Marlene again in the future. The excellent service extended through scheduling my delivery, which was ready earlier than I was told. I was given a 3 hour window of noon to 3:00 for the delivery, and then I was called at 11:30 and informed they were on their way. The delivery arrived promptly at noon, and the men performing the delivery were very polite and pleasant. They wore white gloves and took their shoes off before entering my house without even being asked by me. They were very nice and really represented Ethan Allen very well. My sofa is absolutely perfect! It is extremely high quality and exceeded my expectations in every way. I'm glad I followed my instincts and went ahead with my order because I have had a wonderful experience with Ethan Allen. read more

The quality used to be superb but now it's sub-par. I purchased three pieces of furniture in November, 2014 and all of them had to be sent back for repair or are still waiting to be repaired. It's now April, 2015 and I have to say, I'm over it. I just want my money back. While the Customer Service Rep has been very responsive and helpful, I can't say the same for the Clairemont Mesa Blvd. store. The designer who ordered the furniture told me it was my problem, not hers. The store manager called me twice, and the second time asked me the same questions she asked the first time. When I asked her if she even read the detailed emails (with photos) I sent her, she said she deleted them. Professionalism is sorely lacking in that office to say the least. The manager's continued stance is that Ethan Allen will fix the issues. My stance is that I'll most likely be dead before that happens. All I want is for them to pick up the furniture and refund my money. I'd rather sit on the floor than continue to deal with people who don't have the faintest clue about Quality Control. After 23 years of buying EA furniture, I will never buy anything from them again. read more

I walked into the store and the receptionist and a "designer" were standing at the counter gossiping, turned around looked at me and turned back around and carried on their conversation! I walked through the entire store and not one person greeted or asked if I needed help! The looked at me and went about their business! I loved the furniture and would have made a purchase in the spot for a few pieces. I knew what I wanted! It is unfortunate that this store is being run by over paid and under educated, snobby, egotistical people! The owner might actually be shocked at the sales they is store could make if the quality of people working here matched the quality of furniture being sold! Piece of advise for your staff...Be careful when judging a book by its cover! At the end of the day my money that pays your bills, and you just lost that sale! Although after reading other reviews now, I am very pleased that I didn't make the mistake of purchasing from this store! I was quite disappointed with this service. I was interested in window coverings and arranged an appointment. The interior designer, Maureen, wrote the appointment date in her scheduler incorrectly and missed our appointment. She then showed up the next day. We were lucky to be home. She provided us with useful information and we requested a quote. She never provided us with this quote. To this day, we still have not heard from her. read more

DO NOT SHOP AT THIS STORE. I have now had TWO horrible experiences with this store and will never shop here again. The first time I ordered custom made sofas which were supposed to be delivered in 6-8 weeks. It ultimately took over 3 months to get the sofas delivered. Time after time I was assured that the sofas would arrive, first in 7 weeks, then 10 weeks, then 12 weeks, and then they were finally delivered in 14 weeks. I had specifically chosen Ethan Allen over other similar stores because they promised to deliver in a shorter time period than others, and I wanted to have the new sofas before I had family coming to visit. Obviously the sofas were NOT delivered by that time. The second time I bought a lamp for just under $400. The lamp took two and a half months get delivered. And, to top it all off, the delivery guy KICKED MY DOG! He then insisted that she was trying to bite him. To put things in perspective, she is a 10 pound, extremely cute, people and dog friendly dog that has never attempted to bite anyone in any way ever before. I only gave Ethan Allen 1 star because yelp does not allow me to give zero. DO NOT SHOP AT THIS STORE. The prices are high, and the service is HORRIBLE. read more

We had previously purchased Ethan Allen Furniture from San Marcos and thought we would have the same stellar service at this one. I was completely wrong! We were greeted by Shelly who showed us around and let us know what finishes came with each piece. She was helpful but didn't completely blow my hair back. We told her we would think about it and get back to her. The day we came back in, I had asked for Shelly and the woman at the front desk told me she wasn't working and asked if I wanted to call her. I'm not going to disturb someone on their day off so we were handed off to someone else. As the woman at the front was getting someone else to help us she called us "Shelly's clients" I took that as this next person isn't going to want to help us because he has no incentive. I was right! We asked about the dining furniture after a while he asks us "do you want to do your thing" which we did. We took it upon ourselves to look at the wood samples and wandered around for a bit. After a while I just told my husband we should leave and place our order with the other store. No one was coming to help us. We did exactly that! I'm not mad at Shelly, but the woman at the front was not really friendly and the other sales guy who had no incentive to help us could have done better. Does it really matter who sells it to us if we are going to your store? Maybe learn to work as a team. I'm a customer and if I can see that, you have some serious training to do with your staff. I love the products Ethan Allen sells but I'm probably never going to set foot in this particular store again. Even if that means I have to drive 25 miles north to get decent service. read more

After spending over $600 on a light fixture, it arrived and was defective. After trying to blame the electrician and everyone but themselves, they agreed to order me a new fixture. When I asked for an update 8 days after I'd place the order, I was told that both people helping me wouldn't be in for two days and they'd get back to me then. Amy is the designer I have been working with at Ethan Allen. While she is young, she is also quite sharp and has done a terrific job guiding me through decisions. I had shopped for many months and had dozens and dozens of ideas and opinions, many of them conflicting, and I could not figure out how to create a cohesive look in my open floor plan with both traditional and contemporary anchor pieces. She has patiently walked me through the steps of the process and has made very good suggestions. Her sense of color is especially well-developed, and because I am very sensitive to this I am most appreciative. I also like that when I have ideas, she is able to steer me toward or away from them depending on the situation. I am a tough customer, but Amy has been truly lovely to work with! read more

'll give this company 5 stars for great quality furniture and 1 stat for horrible delivery and customer service. The furniture takes forever to be delivered. They want be to keep the entire day open for delivery- and will not commit to a time. The designer that came to my house to design the room cancelled and rescheduled 4 times- which should have been my first clue. Then- when the bed came they had a defective piece that they had to reorder. And now I have to wait another 2-3 months to get the part and commit another entire day to wait for delivery.
