They carry mostly high-quality brands, but they're a bit pricey. This location at UTC is HUGE and spacious. You can spend hours in there looking for stuff. Their staff is friendlier than most places, which can be good or bad (if you just want to browse). Overall, I usually go here if I want to get something for the kitchen that I can not find at other kitchen stores. read more

Recently, it was time to upgrade our living room furniture, and of course, we came straight here. The salesperson was super helpful and walked us through a bunch of great options without any pressure. What we really appreciate is how friendly and welcoming everyone is. From the moment you walk in, you're greeted with a smile. The staff really knows their stuff--they explain everything clearly and always have answers to your questions. Hello Jeremy from Crate and Barell! That's what Nick the store manager told me two weeks ago when the initial wrong delivery was made. That he followed up, made sure we would get the right order, made us wait another week. I called the store again and they said I have to wait for a refund. At this point, I don't care to buy your goods when you charge $400 for delivery charges alone and can't even deliver the right item x2! The least you can do is give me my money back so I can go buy a sofa from a reputable business. Description of issue: They delivered the wrong sofa for a second time! They said they had it in stock when we were placing the order at the UTC store. Of course they charged for it right away at the store!! Then the wrong sofa wax delivered. So we had it taken back and they told us it has to be delivered from the LA warehouse. We waited another week and again the delivery came with the wrong sofa. Same error because it's mislabel at the warehouse. When I asked for a refund, they told me sorry we can't give you a refund right away. You have to wait. Don't order from crate and Barrel. It's a mess and they can't even get their act together. read more

I purchased the Axis II sectional on 8/2020, when you sit on it in the store it's nice and comfy and not when you receive it at home. The pillows seem to be filled with something different than in the store. They are still hard and so are the cushions. I love the white color the quality, but a bit firm and not how I expected this sectional to be. I expected it to be soft, like the example at the store. I thought by this time it would be broken in. I do have a pull out bed, although the other side where the sectional is not in is still hard and all the pillows as well, the picture is photo was a different couch I purchased that I exchanged for the Axis. read more

I wish I could give 0 stars. I ordered a Christmas gift on Dec 21 in store, knowing it wouldn't arrive by the holiday, and waited two weeks. On Jan 3, after receiving a 'DELIVERED' email, I went to the store. An employee asked me to wait while they retrieved my order. After 16 minutes, they told me it was still on the pallets and asked for another 20 minutes to find it. No one ever checked back on me. When I finally asked for an update, a different employee told me it hadn't even been delivered yet and promised a call the next day. I waited until Jan 8 with no call. When I returned, I was told to wait again. After 11 minutes, the store leader informed me my order had been canceled--no call or email notification was ever sent. They claimed it was out of stock, which makes no sense if the order was accepted in the first place. The level of unprofessionalism was staggering. The leader promised to call customer service on Jan 9 to arrange home delivery, only to tell me the next day that I had to call them myself because 'the store couldn't do anything.' Today, I called customer service, and they simply confirmed the cancellation. Despite the runaround I received from the store staff, no resolution was offered, and no one cared to escalate my complaint. Do not order custom furniture. We ordered a very expensive sectional. The sales associate promised 6-8 weeks. It's 11 weeks and counting. Last we were told it would arrive this weekend- never heard from the delivery department. Unless you're okay being lied to in order to make a sale - and waiting 3 months for your furniture... We can't cancel the order because "all sales are final" on custom orders. Apparently they can just keep our money indefinitely and never deliver the product. We're about to go on a 2 weeks vacation.... What then? Ridiculous. Unethical. Deceptive. read more

This is the second time I have gone into the Crate and Barrell at UTC in the past month looking to purchase furniture. I have found the staff to be unwelcoming and unhelpful both times. I had an interaction with one sales associate that was so dismissive, I left the store wanting to make a purchase anywhere but there. I had found some pieces I was interested in online and when I went to see them in person, it was as though it was putting out the sales associate when I had a few basic questions. Me and my husband came into the store tonight looking for furniture and other house hold items for our new house, when we walked in we were not greeted but stared and whispered about between two ladies. Later when walking around the store for about 5 minutes one of the ladies I believe to be a older Indian woman came up to us and asked if we were looking for anything specific but then had to add your hands seem empty I hope your pockets are too to my husband. Which was an out of pocket statement and unnecessary to add. For reference my husband is black and I am white and this all happened to my husband in-front of my face. She then laughed and walked to the back, another co worker which was an Asian guy was very nice though when he saw that happened and asked if we were ok sadly the mood was already ruined and we left immediately after. We had many great experiences at Crate and Barrel while engaged! They hold special events for couples to shop before store hours to add items to their registry- and they give you a cute free gift too! The registry process is great! We linked ours directly to our wedding website and loved getting packages and guests purchased them. They also were really easy to deal with returns when we accidentally were gifted two of the same thing. read more

We furnished our entire condo with Crate & Barrel, The sofa which is not quite 2 years old has been discolored from the label they installed on the sofa . We contacted both the utc store where purchased as well as the customer service. They responded by saying they do not offer any warranty and that the sofa is 2 years old apparently they only sell furniture built to last 1 year In addition they no longer have a relationship with the vendor.. We spent a good deal of money in that store and will not make that mistake again. Had we known their furnishings are only built to last 1 year and after that they will do nothing for you when the furniture falls apart.In this case they say it looks like fluid was somehow spilled UNDER the cushion and stayed just on the label they put on and by the way their label ink ran on to fabric. My advise is although the showroom looks nice if you want quality furnishings that will last more than a year look somewhere else. read more

This store is in the strangest location at UTC mall. Far away from the mall in a remote corner of the parking lot. It's a very nice well organized store with just about everything you can want to decorate your home. Pricing is average compared to other similar stores, and the staff are great. read more

BUYER BEWARE: First let me say this review is for the Fashion Valley location (which for whatever reason doesn't have its own Yelp page - go figure). However, my horrible experience has more to do with Crate and Barrel policy than anything else (although the female sales associate and female manager working at the Fashion Valley location on the afternoon of Sunday, October 20, 2024, were about the rudest I have ever encountered at a retail store). My issue had to do with a return for which I didn't have a receipt. I didn't expect a cash or credit refund, but did expect store credit. After all, this was for some pillows that I had purchased just 2 weeks before and were manufactured by Crate and Barrel. The sales associate went on to say something about emailing receipts, which led me to believe that the policy was just as much to do with forcing customers to be stuck with something they did not want or need as it was about securing customer private email information for later use (either directly or indirectly through the sale of personal information). I also didn't expect both the sales associate and manager to be unprofessional. I've been a Crate and Barrel shopper for many years but will never return to this store (or any other Crate and Barrel location). When I spend my time and money at a store, I need to trust and respect the retailer with whom I am interacting and expect the exchange to be mutual. I don't expect to do business with a retailer that cares more about $40 than a good customer experience or making the customer happy. Moreover, I shouldn't be forced to deal with snotty and sarcastic management under any circumstance. If I could give zero stars I would. Worse customer service ever, and just one more reason to avoid these brick and mortar stores (can you imagine buying something on line that you couldn't return?). LOVE THIS PLACE ... you know you are adulting when this place excites you. The amount of time I've spent through the years taking cooking classes and spending time in the kitchen during the pandemic has made me appreciate home goods like no other. When I was much younger I've always loved Crate and Barrel but could never really afford the items here. Now that I'm grown and adult I love shopping items here for my home. Especially tableware!!! They have the cutest style plates. My favorite purchase thus far is their "outdoor table in a bag". I saw a couple having the cutest dinner at a park during the summer and their table wad the outdoor table in a bag. I'm totally stealing their idea for a cute picnic in the park. I feel like everything I've bought here has been qualify. Prices are fair... that is for tableware. I am eyeing their couches, not very many selection but variety of colors to choose for their limited selection. Prices for their couches though are a bit pricy. My wife and I decided to stop by our local Crate & Barrel to buy some furnishings for our new home near UCSD. We were frankly blown away by the selection of really cool stuff. In less than an hour's time, we had found what we wanted, and my credit card was $2,000 lighter. Two thumbs up for the great selection of cool stuff and for the super salespeople who helped us out. Two thumbs down, however, for the store (company?) policy of removing lightbulbs from floor sample lamps after you pay for them. Since the lamp was turned on when I paid for it, and my receipt clearly states that the item was sold "as-is," I was surprised to get home, unwrap the lamp, and find out that the bulb was not included. Must have been a mistake, right? Wrong. When I followed up with the salesperson to see if he had forgotten to pack the bulb, he told me, "we don't give out the light bulbs, as they are expensive." Short-sighted, dumb policy for an otherwise cool store. But this policy is worth only 2 stars in my book -- could've been better. I won't be in such a hurry to visit again. UPDATE: A couple weeks ago, I copied and pasted this review into the Crate & Barrel online customer feedback survey and within a few days a rep reached out to me with a $25 gift card which just covered the price of a new light bulb. A Five-Star shout out to Carlton. I purchased a set of dishes on the Crate&Barrel (C&B) website in April 2022, but picked the order up at the UTC location. I got the dishes home, peeled the labels off each dish, and ran them through the dishwasher. As I removed the dishes from the dishwasher I noticed one of the bowls was cracked. Well, I didn't get around to returning the bowl to UTC C&B until late September. Due to the passage of time I didn't hold out much hope that I would get a credit or a replacement dish. This is where Carlton stepped in. He was able to find my order in the C&B system from 6 months prior and promptly order me a replacement bowl, which I received this week. Not only that there is always some discount code (either online or mailed out) and you can stack that with the 10% back their credit card gives you. I moved into a new place and decided to start fresh. Luckily met their interior designer, Paulina, who, via Zoom, consulted and gave me tips and layouts of how to set up my place. This is a free service and it was absolutely amazing. I looked all over San Diego for furniture and based on what's out there and the quality, this is the best of the best. To management: I picked up my online order yesterday at the store and unfortunately received the most bizzare interaction with one of the employees. The gentleman stood at the front of the counter register and I mentioned I was there to pick up my order and he turns to the side and responds to me without making eye contact and didn't face my way. He proceeded to talk to me while facing the other direction and that was so rude and odd. The employee described was a black male with glasses. Horrible customer service and just rude and pretentious for no reason. Some attentiveness and eye contact would help. Please retrain him. read more

Crate and Barrel - train your managers, especially Paris Howell. We made a $1200 purchase of new kitchenware in December, including 8 Tour 15 oz white wine glasses @ $14.95 ea, we expected a decent quality. They weren't cheap. One of the glasses literally shattered as my wife was putting it in the dish washer and it lightly clinked against another wine glass. We took the glass back to the store, expecting they would say, "oh, that shouldn't have happened, let us replace it." Nope. The manager was snarky, reminding us condescendingly that they recommend hand washing wine glasses. Never mind that nobody told us that at purchase, and that we actually hadn't washed the glass yet before it broke. She stubbornly refused to accommodate us, with a "you broke it" attitude. What is worse, my wife looked up the washing instructions on line, and it said they were easy to clean in the dish washer, and it bragged about how break resistant the glasses are at that (see attached screen shot)! My wife asked why the website said that it was easy to clean in the dishwasher. Her response? We aren't responsible for the website. Who is 'we'? As far as I'm concerned she was Crate and Barrel, so she is responsible for what the company advertises. That's what is means to be a manager. Another employee who overheard the convo chimed in that everyone knows to hand wash wine glasses. What? After we put up a stink, asked who this manager's manager was, etc. that she reluctantly agreed to do us a one time only courtesy. Like we were trying to pull one over by returning a glass we broke. It was $15 and we could afford it, its just the principle of standing behind your products. Apparently Crate and Barrel does not. The manager's name was Paris Howell at the UTC La Jolla location. She needs customer service training. We will not ever buy anything from C&B again. This is not the first issue we've had with them - had one employee go all Qanon conspiracies, gun rights and antivaxing on us while we were trying to check out in a pandemic. Seriously. read more

Crate and Barrel needs to work on their customer service. In the times I've visited, I haven't had a good experience. I question as to why I've returned so many times. The floor reps I've encountered don't have a very friendly disposition after you're greeted coming into the store. I recently visited to do a quick exchange with no other customers around me in the store. My mask was covering my mouth but fell beneath my nose. 2 reps immediately jump on my case about my mask and I was a considerable distance from them. You would have thought I was coughing on them. Instead of being friendly or asking if I have any exemptions they were abrupt and bossy. If you're going to go that far with COVID guidelines to treat your customers like they are carrying the plague, then for Pete's sake, sanitize the surfaces, like the credit card keypad between uses--which they did not do. You have a far higher chance of contracting the illness by touching surfaces than me breathing from far away. This was going to be an exchange but it ended up being a return. I will never do business with Crate and Barrel again after that brief encounter. read more

A fabulous, huge Crate and Barrel. One thing that is really nice is that the aisles aren't too jammed, so it's easy to walk around. They had absolutely beautiful wreaths. Some were pure white, with white pinecones, then there were some that were gold and silver with little bulbs. They also had a huge selection of red-themed glasses and platewear, and lots of Christmas aprons and oven mitts, etc. There was almost no one at the end of the store where the bedding is; everyone was concentrated around the decorations. There was already a jolly Christmas spirit inside here. Just love the Christmas season! I got a wreath and some tree decorations, and Robin, my neighbor, went for some dipping bowls and small Christmas plates. They also had a set of white dinner plates with a silver/snowflake border. I had been coveting the lounge sofa for years -- waiting until my renovation was underway to finally pull the trigger on an extremely expensive custom L-shaped couch. I cannot tell you how disappointed I am with my entire experience with a company and store I have been very loyal to. First, the sofa feels NOTHING like it did when I sat on it in the store. It is stiff, hard, and the seams dig into you making it impossibly uncomfortable. I told the salesperson it would really bother me if the sofa cushions were not consistent in size... somehow I ended up with a configuration where not one of the cushions is the same size; it looks ridiculous, and even worse, the corner (normally my favorite part of the couch) is so oddly shaped and the seams are just so bothersome. I made a comment to the people who dropped it off that the sofa felt nothing like what I was expecting and they assured me it would settle after we broke it in. Well here we are, 8-9 months later, and it is still hard, scratchy and uncomfortable. There is nothing "loungy" about the sofa, and, to top it all off, it sheds feathers everyday. I ordered the sofa in September and was told I'd have it by Thanksgiving. I kept getting emails saying my order was "on track"... until one day it wasn't. I did not receive it by the holiday. Once it was finally delivered, I called the store several times and was told a manager would get back to me. This never happened. Then Covid hit, so I didn't contact them until this summer. Again, no return call. I cannot for the life of me understand how these business practices are acceptable to Crate and Barrel. I spent somewhere in the neighborhood of $6k for one piece of furniture and feel it was a complete waste. read more

A great place to go to for high end furniture. The service is excellent and so is the selection. My wife loves this place as much as I love cake. We've purchased all the little small kitchen items as well as a patio set. We came in today for a new sofa set. Still searching for the perfect color scheme and size to fit our home. We'll be back for sure as we have been over the past decade. What's great is the layout and the ease of getting around the place. It gives you an idea of how to decorate your home without having to move anything around. The associates are so helpful and not pushy at all.
