My wife has an ex-boyfriend from Denmark who best described Ikea furniture: "ek! Swedish crap!!" He was referring to the furniture, but his statement is also true for their CS, and especially true for ordering online. I personally hate going to Ikea, always have. It is a pain to get to, and securing our purchases inevitably leads to a frustration fueled fight. We have purchased durable furniture from Ikea, our table is standing up to the abuse of our young children quite nicely. That is rare though. One of the chairs we purchased last summer already has a broken leg. Our futon couch is in pieces & currently supported by fire logs & rope. Bad situation, to say the least. Knowing there's no way we'll be able to get a "real" couch home from the storefront, we decided to order a new couch from Ikea online. WARNING: DO NOT ORDER FROM IKEA ONLINE!!!! The cost for delivery of said couch was $10 less than the couch itself. Then, on top of that, they require a delivery location where an 18-wheeler can maneuver in your driveway (seriously?! in Seattle?!). Then they said there could be additional fees if the truck can't maneuver (say what?!). An alternative option they offered was to make arrangements w/ the freight company to pick up our couch at a "nearby parking lot" (which kind of defeats the purpose of ordering online). As if to add insult to injury, they said the freight company would call in 3 weeks to arrange delivery (talk about speedy service...not!). But wait, there's more... After mulling it overnight, we canceled our order the next morning. They said it would be 7 - 10 days before we received our refund (never mind our card was charged while I was on the phone...oh yeah, after ordering online, you have to call Ikea's CS to complete the order...fun times!). On day nine, they called my wife asking for a card to refund our order too. I was out, so we gave an alternate card. At that time, they said it would be an additional 7 - 10 days before the refund. When she pointed out they said that 7 - 10 days ago, their response was that we were lucky to be able to cancel the order in the first place (really feeling lucky w/ all this, going to go buy a lotto ticket). 5 days after that (on New Years day!!!), they called saying they needed the original card to receive refund. I don't expect to see our money anytime soon. Ikea seriously needs to look at their online options. If the freight company they use charges hundreds of dollars to deliver a $200 couch, there are probably local, cheaper delivery companies. In this day and age, online sales should be on par, or out performing their brick & motor locations. The experience should at the very least be easier than driving to the storefront. This experience not only turned me off to online ordering from Ikea, but I will never, ever set foot in an Ikea store again. Also will be getting my new couch from Sears, for the same price (cost of couch plus shipping) can get a better one, and have it delivered. read more

Disaster. It was difficult to figure out how to purchase a wardrobe. I waited in line at the cashier for no reason and then had to go back to the bedroom section. They charged me a $40.00 "picking fee" to add lights. One of the clothes rails ended up being out of stock so they mailed me an $11.00 gift card instead of finding a way to source one. I ended up having to buy it on ikea.com (still not delivered). That wasn't actually the worst part. The wardrobe is delivered and the installation crew starts putting parts and tools up against my wall and on my bed. They didn't actually know how to install everything (never received a diagram) and ended up asking me all kinds of questions. They almost drilled into my drywall that has metal studs until I informed them that they had the wrong drill bit. It occurred to me that they didn't actually know what they're doing and I asked them to avoid trying to go into the wall. Still not the worst part. They eventually refuse to finish assembly. Lights? Not included in installation. Doors? Too heavy, refuse to install without the cabinet being mounted to the wall (which their supervisor confirms they can't actually offer). I went to install the doors myself and realized that they skipped many installation steps. There are a ton of extra parts that they didn't bother installing. For example, step 4 was completely skipped for no good reason. Will give them one chance to fix this before calling the credit card company. read more

Let me start off by saying that I've been to my fair share of IKEAs. This one in particular is clearly not designed very well to accommodate so many people. They have an indoor parking garage and various spaces outside but the entrance where cars turn in is always backed up with cars waiting to either turn into the parking garage or to turn left or right for outdoor spots. On top of that, this IKEA seems to be extremely busy, with people crowding the hallways to the point that I have to squeeze between people or ask them if I could get through. If you thought traffic on the I-5 was bad during traffic hour, try coming to this IKEA on a weekend. It's like 5x worse! read more

H. and I spent three hours figuring out how to navigate through Ikea and buy a mattress, boxspring and frame/stand there; once we had decided what to buy, we alternated between fruitlessly trying to find the items in the warehouse (from which they had apparently recently been moved to an undisclosed secret bunker, so instructions on getting them were out of date) and placing orders for them at a kiosk that charged us for something that was no longer available. We didn't discover that until they called us a few minutes later on my cell phone. We urgently needed a bed that week, as we had guests coming in from out of the country. They told us the thing that they were promising would be there wasn't going to be available for two months. They said they would substitute an alternative box spring without additional charge. (They lied though; the credit card authorization showed they added a charge for it). By this time, I had already pulled off the freeway and found myself back in Ikea-land due to a series of confusing zigzag maneuvers, and we noticed Mor furniture. We discovered that we could get a bed of far, far superior quality for somewhere around the same price as the relatively "high-end" combination we bought at Ikea, and we didn't have to spend an hour or two tracking down the items ourselves in the crappily organized Ikea warehouse. After 20 minutes of testing mattresses and 5 or 10 minutes sitting down (not waiting in line) to arrange delivery, we were done and out the door. We got a very respectable mattress and boxspring, a free frame, free delivery, and a discount that amounted to the same as sales tax, and they actually delivered on time. At Ikea, for the same amount of money including the delivery fee ($65), we were going to get a tolerable mattress that didn't hurt. We called Ikea to cancel. They tried to charge us for the delivery fee for the item that we were trying to cancel, which we vetoed successfully. By the way, you're not allowed to cancel over the phone. You have to stand in line at the customer service area. It was a solid pain in the ass. I have no love for Ikea. The only thing Ikea is good for is Daim (chocolate toffee candy) and frozen yogurt. read more

As a fellow Yelper below me wrote...IKEA is what it is...take it for what it is. So don't rag on it. You can't go to McDonalds and expect El Gaucho, and you can't go to Walmart and expect Nordstrom. Ikea is a place to get new furniture in either pieces or sets that has nice styling (if you're into modern/contemporary furniture...like I am), and decent enough quality. Like any place that is a good deal, expect tons of people, meaning packed parking lots, lots of people, but the lines to checkout at IKEA are typically not that bad. Anyway I've bought a dresser, entertainment stand, glasses, lamps, bed stands and random kitchen gadgets from IKEA. They've all been great deals, look better and have a higher quality than something you'd get from target/walmart (pretty much if anything has ever broke, it's due to manhandling and/or overloading), yet the price is about the same or even cheaper than what you'd pay for something similar at target/walmart. You could get cheaper furniture at a Salvation army/Value Village...but you probably wouldn't find anything that matches, and it'd probably be 100 years old with random stains from God knows what/where. Anyway I take IKEA for what it is, it's not the easiest place to shop, but you get great products for the price paid. I think it's funny that people can complain about furniture made from 3rd world countries as they wear Nike shoes and/or wear GAP clothing. The only real drawback to IKEA furniture and products is...it's real easy for people to pin-point what IKEA products are in your home...but then again...it just means they shop at IKEA too..and thus the conversation starts "OOO I love IKEA they didn't have that when I was there..." ~G read more

Ikea has free parking. Allow at least 2 1/2 hours for your "ikea experience" Make sure to eat here, whether it's just an el cheapo hotdog at the espresso stand or a meal in the cafeteria. Ikea is kid friendly! If your kids are potty trained, you can leave them in the play area. The bathrooms are super kid friendly and there are great kid meal deals as well as places for them to play. KID HEAVEN! Ikea furniture can serve you well no matter what you are looking for. The workers there are very knowledgeable. There is a delivery service they offer--it's worth every penny. Sometimes there are in store specials with discontinued items. Over the years I have managed to collect several of these things for quite cheap. One yr for Christmas, my family met in another state that required we all fly there. I bought a very cool ikea christmas tree for $10.00! It was quite modern and small and folded up flat into an easily packable box. They also had paper stars with lights inside that I ended up giving to everyone. There are so many interesting things there besides furniture--it's fun to go and just look. read more

The first rule of IKEA is you cannot get out of IKEA in under 30 minutes. The second rule of IKEA is you CANNOT get out of IKEA in under 30 minutes. IKEA, like a washed up B-list movie star, is great for some things, and really, really terrible for other things. I like IKEA for storage solutions, simple lighting, some home accessories, basic bookshelves to be used in rooms where guests are not allowed, and some of the more expensive furniture. Prices on most items are hard to beat, but, the quality isn't always there so you have to be discerning. Their wood furniture is cheap and should be relegated to service in the garage, nursery, in-home daycare or home office that no one ever uses. Service is generally okay, if you can find an associate. The layout is like a rat maze, intentionally designed to force shoppers to view every dang thing they sell before checking out. Find shortcuts and use them often. One thing I never appreciated about IKEA until recently is how family-friendly it is. They have a room, next to the bathrooms, that is just for changing babies. This is incredible in light of the fact that some chain restaurants and major retailers do not even have changing stations in the men's restrooms (I'm looking at you, Macy's). I also recommend taking advantage of the super-close family parking spots; if you don't have kids, just borrow a friend's kid for the day. read more

30 years of life before I finally made it here. And I'm glad I did. As a marketer and someone who did many years working retail and merchandising, I am really impressed with the way it is set up. For something that could be so impersonal (DIY furniture), they did a great job of making it quite the opposite. I managed to escape only spending about $50, because I had my heart set on one thing, and one thing only. But it was tempting. Really, really tempting. Don't come here without your wallet. Then again, maybe that's the only time you should come... read more

Beautiful new store! I only wish they would put covers over the walking paths in between the parking. Before we had all covered parking. This is the Pacific Northwest. it's clean, the displays are always stellar. The staff is always friendly. I only wish they would have more checkers during busy hours. read more

Yay Ikea!! I have a love/hate relationship with the furniture purchased from Ikea. If I build it myself, I generally find that I hate it because it breaks. If I hire someone to build it, I like it MUCH more since it somehow stays together and ends up looking pretty nice! So if you're not a furniture building pro, I'd highly recommend you pay someone to help build your cheap furniture so it will last for longer :). As far as this store goes, the parking sucked. It felt like I walked a mile. The store I used to go to in Dallas has just as much, if not more parking but it doesn't seem nearly as far away from the store entrance. The freezing cold weather probably didnt help. The actual store was gigantic but great! Loved walking around and seeing all the crazy options for things. I found exactly what I was looking for and more and for oh so cheap. Really a great store if you're on a budget. read more

It was quite some experience shopping at IKEA today. First parking was a challenge since construction is in process next to the parking area and this added more inconvenience to the already congested traffic flow. This occurred on a week day morning. I wonder what traffic would be like over the weekends! There were enough employees on the floor, but according to our observation, they were hardly productive, most of them gathered in groups of two or three, either conversing or on the computers. With a steady customer flow, it seemed like none of these employees would approach and take any initiative to offer customer service. Though we had accomplished our shopping for some furniture with their self service system, that cold attitude and non-professionalism exhibited by the employees on the floor totally turned us off. The lack of CUSTOMER SERVICE at IKEA most likely, does cause damage when people consider to patronize this store. read more

Ikea should not have taken down the parking garage, parking is CRAZY BAD. Upstairs seemed smaller with less product on display - I could not even find the king size comforter I was looking for. I think it would have been way easier to have the parking lot and warehouse in the old building and the "look at our stuff" in the new building on both floors - with a nice sky walk connecting the two buildings read more

Going to Ikea is a workout! You can probably spend a day in there..or simply get lost and die. I am not going to get into details about the furniture here. We all know its cheap-er put together yourself kinda stuff. Perfect for a student or someone who doesn't want to spend much on home stuffs or likes to switch it up often. You can always find something here, there's no way to walk out of this store without buying something and I think they meant to design it that way. I get all the basics from here, but really if you are looking for nicer things...this isn't your place. A little tip is to make sure and check out the AS-IS section by the exit, because you can find some really awesome deals there once in awhile, you just have to have a large vehicle to take it home, because whatever it is, will be already put together. On a side note I love their yogurt at the cafe, its YUM! You see how I manage eat everywhere I go...I can't stop..oh yea and they have a random couch in the girl's bathroom.. read more

This was a really weird restaurant. First the parking was ridiculous. Then they try to sell you all this ridiculous crap while you walk like 5 miles in their entrance-way. The restaurant itself was really crappy looking. The dining style is retarded, to stay the least: they have like 20 high top tables, and NO SEATS. The food was alright. But for a Swedish restaurant, the menu was very limited: hotdogs, cinnamon rolls, meatballs, and frozen yogurt. WTF? I had the hot dogs. They were alright, but all they had to put on them was freaking ketchup (catsup) & mustard. They didn't even have any fine smelling ass wine. Also the tables were dirty as a whale's Coquella. Pros: Cheap. $2.50 for 2 hotdogs, chips, & a drink. Cons: MADE ME FEEL LIKE S***! I'd go back though. read more

STEER CLEAR OF IKEA KITCHEN DESIGN SERVICES (Traemand). The girl they sent made multiple design errors that trickled into the following: 1) She did not correctly match the sink with the countertop, so the plumbers had to use shims to attached the sink because the clips provided were too big. When I contacted Ikea about this, they said, "Currently with the acrylic countertops you purchased, shims are required in order to fully install your Boholmen sink. Our instructions illustrate the install with our standard size countertops which are much more thick then the one you purchased. Unfortunately at this time we are unable to offer any compensation for this issue as the way your sink was install is standard practice for the type of countertop you purchased." Note, I selected a countertop on display in the Ikea store, so how is that not "standard"? What is "standard"? 2) My faucet is touching my window sill. She did not take my window sill into account in the design. 3) She did not tell me that Ikea cabinets have legs, and that I needed to tile before the cabinets go in. I even mentioned I was planning to wait until after. Consequently, my kitchen is now partially tiled (no tile under the cabinets). I cannot fix this unless I rip everything out and start from scratch, so not a feasible option. 4) I had to make 2 trips to the Ikea store (30 miles each way) during cabinet installation because she selected incorrect parts. 5) Generally, she lacked creativity. The entire process of back and forth was draining. I was hoping that a "professional designer" would have some novel ideas for my small kitchen, but she did not. And she was somewhat unresponsive, so the process took a long time. In summary, I paid $199 to have a designer screw things up for me. Ikea is not taking any responsibility for the issues. In fact, after I paid thousands of dollars for the cabinets and countertop, Ikea basically turned its back and refused to correct any issues that were caused by THEIR CONTRACTOR. If I had the choice to do my kitchen all over again, I would NOT go with Ikea. I am so disenchanted by this whole process, I have vowed to never even shop at Ikea again. Their customer service is crap. That and I have a kitchen with mistakes staring me in the face every time I walk into the room. It is so frustrating. Trust me, don't let the sleek look of their kitchens mesmerize you because you will pay dearly in the end. read more

Poor Customer Service! Spent hours on Phone, trying to understand why things I paid for at store has not been delivered even after 5 days. I won't buy anything from Ikea any more. IKEA and North American logistic are the worst. They invent the worst customer service system ever. Genius. 8 out of 10 times I call IKEA customer service, they won't even put you on hold."we are busy, bye bye" "we are closed due to bad weather, bye bye". The other two times I have to wait up to one hour. Long story in short: Be good to yourself. Don't buy ikea unless you have ability to carry furniture home. If you insist, here are few tips: 1. When you buy ikea online and can't get to checkout because of delivery fee calculation went wrong, change web browser, or try on your phone. 2. IKEA in store and Ikea on line are separate. They are like Nordstrom and Nordstrom rack. (Sorry how can I compare them to Nordstrom) Don't try to edit order in store if you put order online. 3. If you call ikea customer service and you are waiting in line for a while, don't give up. You are lucky cause the rest people can't even get there. 4. IKEA can only make suggestion to delivery company about time slot. Most of time it won't work. 5. When you get call from North American logistic and found the time slot don't work for you, call them to reschedule as early as possible. If you call them late. They can still put you in line even they are closed in the middle. 6. If you want to change the delivery on the delivery date, NAL can't do that. You can only reschedule through IKEA. 7. If you called NAL on the delivery date to reschedule, and you are not for sure to cancel today's delivery, tell NAL customer to keep it. Cause when they tell you they can't reschedule, they will cancel your delivery immediately without asking you. 8. If IKEA customer service tell you, you can't reschedule on phone cause you put order in-store, that's bullshit. Don't buy it. Just hang up and call again hope you can get another people who is well trained for the job. 9. Pray. That's all you can do. May God bless you. My story: when I move to a new apartment, I want my furniture arrive before my arrival,or at least won't be too late. I was thinking buy ikea online but when I want to check out, I have to put in the zip code to calculate estimate delivery fee. These never works. Website always says "oops something went wrong". I changed the web browser, changed computer, changed to my Phone. only successfully for once. Then it said I need to wait two weeks for delivery. I went to the store to put order. In store delivery can be fast, but the nightmare is waiting afterwards. I missed driver's call for once. Within 4 hours delivery window, driver called me two times within a min, the third time two mins after. 7 min later I found out, keep trying to call back. They just didn't answer. I called delivery company, told me I didn't answer my phone, so the delivery was cancelled. I called IKEA, they are closed due to weather, I really don't want to sleep on floor anymore so I went to store to reschedule, It took me 2 hours to get there. Have to take 2 buses and walked for 20 min to get to Renton store, rescheduled for 5-9pm delivery on Monday(which took me 5 min) and get back in another two-hours trip. On Monday, NAL schedule deliver for me at 9 am-1pm. when you set the delivery four hour window in-store, this never gonna work. IKEA says they can only send "a request" about time slot, not guaranteed. I have to work on daytime, i'm only available for 5-9pm. So I kept rescheduling for a week. Day by day, they never gave me a time slot between 5-9. At the end I'm available all day on Sat and I want to get my delivery early, look at me now, they finally give me a 5-9pm. Now i'm waiting at home, charging my phone, set the ringing at highest volume, waiting for NAL driver's call. Wish me good luck. Update: I managed to receive package that night. But only part of it. NAL said I have to call IKEA again. read more

Ikea may be a fun place to shop and may have good prices but what they DON'T have is customer service. I have been trying, for two days, to order custom countertops over the phone (I was told this is allowed). Yesterday, over the course of 4 phone calls, I spent over an hour on hold. For 3 of the 4 calls, I ended up hanging up because I got fed up after 15-20 minutes of being on hold. I finally got through to a person late in the day, gave her my rough measurements. She told me that someone would call me back today in order to take my payment over the phone. It is almost 5:00 pm and I have not heard from anyone. I tried calling about an hour ago and over the course of a 27 minute call, FINALLY got to someone who supposedly could help me. She said she had to research this and would call me back -- we'll see if that happens. So, I'm torn -- I really want those countertops and they are a great price. But, if I am having so much trouble just placing the order, what will it be like for the rest of the process and, God forbid, if there is a problem??? It is so disappointing that they have sacrificed customer service. (And, yes, they no longer offer bags, which is really annoying -- so be prepared to buy one of their bags or carry everything out piecemeal. I certainly never think of bringing my own bags into a store like that) read more

Ikea kicks my butt every time I go there. "Yes, just come in and browse. Oh, you have a list? Suuuure you do. Sure you just want a dresser and a desk. Yep, gotcha. Walk around just for fun, you know you love looking at things you'll never buy. But check out this bookshelf, I know you said you will buy one later on but this is such a steal right now. Oh and this chair is tagged Last Chance, it's getting phased out and the price is awesome and it would be totally awesome for your nonexistent desk. Speaking of desk, how about getting this shelving unit instead, it can double as a vanity table. And if that's what you wanna do, definitely get this postmodern-y mirror over here, it would add so much personality to your room..." Self control and money out the window, dammit, Ikea. Thank goodness stuff is relatively inexpensive... granted, I don't expect to hand this furniture down to my grandkids. Oh and the feeling of successfully assembling that humongous dresser out of a couple hundred bits and pieces of fake wood, screws and pegs, in spite of your roommate's rage at the fact that you're hammering stuff at 10PM... hell yeah. read more

Had $100 bucks to spend for my birthday from my dad & stepmom. Can you say WOOO?!? Yes, I am sometimes a woo girl...haha. ( but not like a Woo Girl on How I Met Your Mother, life is pretty good. ) So I knew the boy and I needed a lamp for the living room, there isn't any ceiling light. Along the way found the $5 Wok, a wiring system for $15, it can hang pictures or paper, two small neat pillows for $2.99 each and some small vases for 79 cents each. SCORE! As for the floor lamp, I got what my dad liked to call "the naked lady" cause it has curves. Also got a smaller table lamp (http://www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/products/40195487) Very very cool! I've only been to one other IKEA, so I don't have much to compare to. However, I will boldly state that IKEA makes for a relatively organized shopping experience, especially if you prefer to shop going in one direction for the most part. Unless you want to take short cuts through their maze of a store - like a fish swimming up stream, it's not easy to navigate and you'll feel the rush of the human current but you'll likely survive :). Went to the Renton IKEA this past Sunday, arriving around 11am to a bustling parking lot. We were able to snag a coveted covered parking spot. Got in the store and signed up for their Family Card. I ended up not needing it since I didn't buy any of their special/exclusive offers, but c'est la vie. Went with two of my girlfriends - of which both had lists of things to pick up. I really just snagged whatever caught my eye - cheap Italian-made felt pens, an aloe vera plant & pot, a shoe rack, etc. I do like that IKEA makes their signage and displays clear and concise to make it more shopper friendly. After a couple hours 'shopping', we recounted our steps to the cafeteria to fuel up and consider if we snagged one-too-many impulse buys. I had the vegetable balls in a delicious sweet potato 'sauce' (more like a puree) with a side of steamed veg. At $4.99 (I believe), the price was reasonable and the meal was satisfying. I opted for a kids fountain drink - at 50c less than an adult's, but still with free refills, you can't go wrong (try the lingonberry juice - delish)! The only things I put back were impulse selections of candy and chocolate (must've been hungry!), and the others were happy with their choices, so we moved onto the warehouse to find some larger items not in the store itself. Unfortunately, the bookshelf my one friend wanted was sold out which she'll probably have to buy online (if available) or return to the store to get if the online shopping doesn't work out. Checkout was a breeze without much of a wait. -1/2 star because it really IS annoying to have to backtrack through the maze-of-a-store going against the crowd... and -1/2 star for their damn carts. They work like a charm when they're empty and light but once you start piling up the deals, they are about as easy to push and control as an unruly 2-year-old. Not only that, but I nearly twisted my knee trying to regain my driver's control navigating one of the sharp turns in order to avoid hitting other shoppers. No, wasn't going too quickly, it was just a crappy cart to try and control :( read more

Now who doesn't love a place were you can leave you kids to play safely for an hour and you can shop! The prices are right, most of the furnature and things are of good quality. Although some are very cheap in price and quality, but good for the dorm room. It's fun to walk through the store as though you are walking through a catalog and pick and choose as you go. PS: You can just drop the kids off and have lunch with a friend in peace too. Foods okay for a cafeteria style place. read more

I loved Ikea!! When i lived in Vegas I would drive the four hours to go to the Ikea in Cali to shoot the breeze and buy random things i dont even need. This location though is rather old looking and horrible parking layout. I was so dumbfounded that this location was not two stories. All the Ikea in NYC and Cali are all two stories so i thought its a standard. The food court/restaurant needs to expend their seating area and improve the food. The swedish meatball were okay but the gravy did not make it any better. The chicken strip/tenders were very process and didnt do anything for me. For those who has not been out of the Ikea in Renton, i will overlook your positive comments as i believe you guys have not experience the Cali Ikea awesomeness!! read more

Terrible return experience at IKEA Renton. There were only 3 people assisting customers on a busy Sat afternoon after Christmas. We scanned the QR code to get in line from the front entry. Confirmation text let us know we were #33 in line without any indication on the wait time. No number showing on monitor. Lots of confused customers not knowing what to do. Rude customer service while asking for guidance. No apology. Not helping at all. We waited 1 hour for #33 and people at #35 got call before us. When we were finally called, the lady was rude without greeting, eye contact or apologizing for long wait. We used to love IKEA but their service has gone down a lot. Very disappointing. read more

Oh, IKEA, I love you so: you've got it all. Cheap furniture, home decor, kitchen gear - if it goes in a house, it's here, at a price that's easy on the wallet. Somehow, I've never managed to leave IKEA for under $200, but then I've never been able to restrain the impulse to redecorate when the spirit takes me, which is what I love about this place. You can do that here for much less than anywhere else. The downside? The crowds! The store is mobbed on weekends and takes forever to get through. Wear comfortable shoes and bring a lot of patience, or better yet, if you possibly can, go another time. It's much less crowded first thing in the morning (on the weekend), or on weekday evenings. If you're stuck going at a busy time, skip the main parking lot and head straight for the "additional parking." You have to find what you want in the warehouse, so be sure to write down the aisle and bin numbers and leave time to find them. And remember, you have to assemble it all when you get home, so there's that. Pro tip: you rarely need anything special to do that, and you never need power tools. read more

Okay so there's 4 listings for IKEA. I guess I'll pick this one. I don't really care about furniture or stuff to clutter up your space; so my stars have nothing to do with the objects you buy in this cavern of retail. I'd like to talk about weird, cheap Scandinavian food. Ever since visiting Norway there has been a soft spot in my heart for Wasa, Gjetost, and all manner of tube-food products. Tube-food you say? Yes it may look like savory toothpaste but it's wonderful. At least try the salmon pate; it reminds me a lot of Salmon salads from Jewish delis. IKEA's foodstuffs are inexpensive compared to what you'd pay at a specialty food shop or Whole Foods, though they are the same brands. It's a great place to stock up on imported crackers, chocolate, preserves, fish products, mustards, cheeses, musli, meatballs, and of course tube-food. read more

I'm 22 and in college, and during the summers when I'm home Ikea is one of the spots to be. If it's July, and a Tuesday maybe, at like 4pm and I have nothing to do and my best friend Megan has nothing to do, we'll travel 15 minutes down the hill to go to Ikea. Once we're there, it's a magic land of wonderment. What do we peruse first - the gitchygadgets in the kitchenware area? Or the whimsical lamps in the children's furniture section. Wait - are those fleur de lys wall decals? Two hours later and about $30 down, it's time to hit the cafe. A soda for me and a hot dog for Megan, and we sit down to do some people watching. The newlyweds with carts full of tables, chairs, a brand new king size bed (oooh) - or the mom who came with her 6 kids so that she can try and shop for a closet system and scream at her baby in the stroller to SHUT THE HELL UP - college kids trying to find the best deal on a fullsize bed (in case they get to bring someone home from the bar/frat party/streetcorner) - they're all here! So if you're looking to furnish your Eastside McMansion, try Ethan Allen or Dania - don't complain about the layout or quality of Ikea products. Just go for the experience...trust me, it's an amazing time waster. read more

The bottom line is, you get what you pay for. I agree with David N. as he stated below. They are made in developing countries to beat down the price but then again, what isn't? It is a good place for starter furniture and design ideas. read more

Ikea, my dislike of you is outweighed heavily by my magical love for all things Swedish, inexpensively expensive and very poorly but awesomely made. How are you such a walking contradiction? I want to love everything that you offer, but once I struggle to piece together the 5 hour bed project that you give to me I discover that god forbid I ever have to take it apart because it'll never go back together again! There are a few places I buy clothes that I consider them "disposable clothing", I like to think Ikea's latest slogan should be something along the lines of "disposable furniture, you'll love it for a short while". That being said, this Ikea location is okay. I don't think too fondly of the layout or the lack of upkeep because I guess the southern cities like Portland upkeep their building and overall experience a little bit better. I feel like the selection is a lot more limited than I'm used to, and where the heck is the self checkout!? The checkout lanes are a bit confusing and just downright annoying, why is there this magic little conveyor belt that's located BEHIND the checker? Uhhh.. I'm not supposed to put my crap on the little teeny, tiny counter space that you provide right in front of me? Ohhhhh.. that's right, you want me to put it on the conveyor belt I'm magically supposed to see BEHIND the checker. The swedish meatball dish is the one thing, (okay, a bit of a lie) that keeps me going back again and again. If you're looking for an inexpensive piece of furniture, Ikea is your place. Shy away from buying any mattresses here, being that this location is where it is, spend the extra $50-$100 on a higher quality mattress at one of the outlet stores around the Southcenter area. read more

IKEA, at first I hated going to there. I am not very brilliant at puzzles and IKEA furniture is somehow a puzzle for adults. Finally we moved and had to go buy a lot of stuff. I was pleasantly surprised for the variety of things, and the incredibly low prices on household items. We were able to get what we needed and our apartment looked wonderful. I liked that staff is available if you have questions. Now, IKEA is a HUGE storehouse and there is a lot of walking, If you can't walk for a long period of time, like me, you will have to be ready to either come in several days or use the wheelchair that the store provides. If you need going around and picking heavy stuff, IKEA suggests to order online. IKEA offers replacements or fixes to recall products and all the transactions with IKEA have been very smooth in my experience. Why you shouldn't buy here: - If you want things one of a kind, IKEA mass produces to the whole world - is harder to shop if you are handicapped because they have wheelchairs but not motorized carts - You have to put the furniture together - They give you a a Why you SHOULD buy things here:Z - The quality of the product IKEA sells is very high for the price - The staff is always ready to help you. - IKEA not only has a brick and mortar store but also has a HUGE store online - They make it easier than ever to put the pieces together and making a beautiful piece of furniture - You get the bragging rights that you built the whole couch!!! - The staff at IKEA even help you design!!! o - Because IKEA has such a great reputation, you know you are getting something good, plus the people at IKEA work hard to keep the standards. I buy there Salud, Marie. read more

This is still a great place to get items for a child's room. Both of my children share a woodland themed room, designed by my daughter on the Ikea website. We bought Pink wall lights (Smila Blooma), a leaf canopy, large stuffed smiling vegetables, and a bed for her birthday. We came back because my children LOVE food play toys. You can find them here! On our second trip we bought a 14-piece vegetable set, a 9 piece fruit set and a 15 piece breakfast play set. Her brother got his own hedgehog toy. Ikea is wonderful for kid's toys, bed frames, or furniture for a college student's apartment. read more

I'm usually a fan of IKEA, but that very much changed today. We saved up enough to finally buy a china cabinet we've wanted for months now. We decided to buy it today, so I went online and checked (at least twice) to make sure they had it in stock. The website said there were five in stock. We drove to IKEA and went to the self serve section. There were at least twelve in stock of the top half of the cabinet. However, there were 0 bottom halves in stock. We went to a desk to ask an employee where the bottom half is. He pulls up the info on the computer and says they are out of stock until March...what? I pulled up the info again on my phone, and it still said there were five in stock. We live an hour away from IKEA, and we obviously wouldn't have made the trip had we known we wouldn't be able to buy the piece of furniture we had MADE THE TRIP TO BUY. Fix your website. It's 2018. We just wasted a few hours of a Saturday for nothing. read more

This store has got to have one of the most interesting layouts ever! I've been to many IKEAs in the US, and I'm not a fan of this one. Supposedly, it used to be a hanger where airplanes were stored before the store was constructed in 1994. I would definitely suggest they rebuild their store and relocate. You have to walk a distance from the main parking area. Once you get to the other parking garage (which is mostly only for loading) you still have to walk more and they have some displays along the path. It's a full 1 story building, most IKEAs are 2 story. It's just a different IKEA overall and I didn't really like it. I'm reviewing based on the building and layout- not on customer service. read more
