IKEA gets very crowded on the weekends and the lines get super long. Weekdays is pretty dead, so if you can go then, I'd recommend that. The layout would be very confusing to walk around in if it weren't for the arrows on the floor pointing to the direction you should be walking in. The staff is helpful and friendly and they have people in the parking lot to help you load large items in your car. They have twine to tie things down in your car but if you want something stronger, they sell straps and other, stronger rope products. read more

But it doesn't ease the frustration of opening up IKEA packages (after a long drive home) that have rusty parts, broken parts, & missing parts... Then driving all the way back to the store, only to stand in their customer service line for HOURS before dealing with slow, grumpy workers. And of course, since this is Seattle area, the replacement packages ALSO contain RUSTY parts! IKEA is one of those places you go if you are out of time, are on a limited budget, etc. In constrained situations, IKEA can be useful IF you're lucky enough to get products that aren't screwed up. I'm absolutely appalled by how low the ratings are for this business and I'd like to share a very real experience I had a few days ago. We just bought a new house and need to start furnishing it. We know how quick IKEA is and wanted to come in as a group to select some new pieces. When we got there, parking has been so improved with the new construction of this location. Once inside the floral printed pieces make the imagination soar but we definitely are more minimalistic. Once up the escalator, and we began to shop. When we got to the TV stand area we needed some help building a customer designed option. An Asian woman with glasses came over and was so helpful. Once we pieced it together it was so simple! She clicked through the computer program, printed out our sheets and we proceeded on. I was stunned with her ease of help and how considerate she was! As we continued shopping I was so pleased with the help of all the staff and the selection didn't seem like they were missing anything! Once we got to the final shelves and picking area we breezed through it! We had to stand in line for a few minutes longer than probably would seem enjoyable for some BUT it's shopping! It's fun! Once we paid, and were able to load easily outside. We figured we would get the whole IKEA experience and we ate at the restaurant! Selection was huge, the food was hot and the fun Christmas / holiday selfie pop-up was so cute!!! We had so much fun! Thank you IKEA of Renton for the amazing time!!!! read more

We visited this location on 8/25/21 to get some stuff for our child's school. Really wished to have given it 5 stars but there were instances where it stung. First off, as we walked it (store not busy, only the 3 of us walking in) the old man sitting inside the entryway did not great us, thought that was the norm, but I went to the restroom and my family waited, they watched as 3 other groups walked in and was greeted - maybe the old man was sleeping with his eyes open??? Yeah right!! Or maybe he was just there for the covid mask mandate, if this is true, the next part didn't make sense. Store was clean, had a lot of sanitizing stations, but some were empty. We made our way to the cafeteria, Social distancing in line was not enforced, some dishes were still self served (grab a plate), and the "soda" fountain and cups were left out for self serve. The cafeteria crew and chef were awesome and quick, food was the usual. Checking out was quick and easy. This new Ikea is definitely better than the old one! Way bigger and brighter. The canteen food court is for sure the biggest change of all! A spacious, bright, not as loud (because they got a new kids area so you won't have as much noises and run around!),etc! Love to have a small lunch there. Although they really need to get more people to work there cause there are long lines all day... and I can't blame them for not hiring enough first cause it's hard to find workers that willing to work pass 7:pm. :/ The first you will see is the show rooms, which really helps cause you get to be inspired by those cool show rooms designs first. And then slowly go into deciding what you really wants for your home. Also I like how the hallway is wider so in case there's some people stopping looking at stuff, you still have enough room to pass them and they won't feel like they are bothering others. Oh, annnd way more cool stuff in store! It's awesome to see new stuff in Ikea and they show it in store not only online! Anyways we had a good time shopping there. (Only problem I had was few kids there keep scrolling around and play like it's their backyard..that REALLY bothered me,but it's not what Ikea can do, it's their parents fault for not teaching them well to behave. *Still feels annoyed* ) The other thing they did differently is the pick up area. Easier to drive in to pick up furniture! I still remember the old one was inside (kinda?) and one car was down so everyone had to get pass the car to go to pick up area... Which was a mess. And that car can't be move anywhere cause it was such a small space and it was so busy that all the cars had to pass one by one slowly. Oh that was horrible! Glad they improved that! Yes, there can be long lines especially on the weekend - on Labor Day the line wrapped around the outside parking lot almost all the way around to the front of the store. The line moves quickly but when it's that long, it takes a while. They used to take your order there for delivery to your home but on certain items, they don't do that anymore. The frustrating thing is that there are many items that are out and they aren't sure when the items will be back in stock - for example desks and chairs (for both kids and adults), outdoor furniture, etc. The staff try to help but can't do much if they don't know when items will come back in stock. The lines can be long but since they are limiting the number of people inside the store, the wait isn't horrible. For returns it can be hit or miss. Ordered wall cabinet from IKEA to complete customer's kitchen project (size was issue) to be delivered to local Walgreens for pickup. Unfortunately, IKEA utilizes FedEx for deliveries like this which means the order status is "Out for Delivery" for 3 days and neither IKEA nor FedEx will take responsibility for where package is. Call IKEA, get FedEx information spouted back to me; call FedEx Customer Service and it's "Out for Delivery". Can't cancel order because IKEA says it's in FedEx hands so not their responsibility. Spent literally 10 days to order online, while being fooled with click-collect, standard delivery, FedEx delivery and finally express delivery options (I should have used those man hours to complete an online course, which would then help me get a promotion or raise). Finally placed an order for over 20 items. Express Delivery came on 5/23. One item was composed of 2 packages but received only 1. Called NAL Group. They said I had to call IKEA for replacement item. Tried to reach IKEA for 5 days. No response. Then I checked IKEA's Instagram, Twitter and Facebook, only to realize the large-scale tragedy they are facing: No one is getting anything for months! And no customer support. Ok, I will set my anger and disappointment aside and try to help those, who might still order things online. First, understand the 4 main options: 1. Click& Collect: It does not work. I have not seen anyone who claimed it worked. Even if you place your order, chances are you will go to the store only to find out that your order is not ready and will not be ready. 2. FedEx: Technically, you will not see such an option, but it is what you get if you shop for small items. By small, I am not sure how they determine what the small is; because I tried it with 2 Fjallbo TV units and and it was still shipping FedEx. Anyways, if it ships FedEx, a. It is dispatch from a main warehouse b. It will cost you something between $10-$30 c. It says it will arrive sometime in July. 3. Delivery: If your cart includes heavier furniture items, your whole order will be delivered via truck, including the smaller items in your cart. a. It is dispatch from a main warehouse (I'll talk about it and explain why this matters) b. It will cost you $49 (or more based on your postal code. Mine was for First Hill) c. It says it will arrive sometime in July. d. It will probably not come. Either the order will get cancelled or on the day of delivery, you will see nobody. This is how the story goes with thousands of complaints in Instagram, Twitter and Facebook. 4. Express Delivery: This is what worked for me and I will explain why it worked. Express delivery is offered in select locations and Renton is one of them. a. It is dispatch from your LOCAL store, which is RENTON for us. b. It will cost you $49 (or more based on your postal code. Mine was for First Hill) c. It will be scheduled for 1 or 2 days after the order placement. You cannot select date or postpone the date. Now, what is the deal with dispatching items from local store and why Expedited shipping might be the key to ordering? As far as I understand from the comments, main warehouses are cramped and they do not keep an accurate inventory. When they find out that an item is low in their stock or nonexistent at all, they cancel your order altogether and do not bother to call you while you are waiting at home, expecting your delivery that day. When you order through Expedited Delivery, though, it is processed by the local IKEA. There is lower chance of ending up with a low stock item because the system does not event grant you the expedited delivery option if the stock is low (see next paragraph). Since the delivery is promised within 2 days, even if something is screwed, you will know sooner (here we are being the Pollyanna). How to order Expedited Delivery? For the expedited delivery, all your items, ALL THE ITEMS, should be in stock in the local store. All green. Mid stock doesn't work. Low stock? They say there are 1,000 levels of hell and I truly believe that IKEA is located on one of the upper levels. First of all let's cut to the chase, the majority of the furniture Ikea sells is put-it-together particleboard pieces that should feature a big label reading "coming soon to a landfill near you." I once bought a set of furniture for a guest room that is rarely used and I've already had to send some of the pieces to the landfill of misfit furniture. What a waste. So you don't like the furniture Jeff. So what do you think of the staff? Some of the staff here are as motivated as the underground workers in the silent movie Metropolis. I am amazed what passes for manners with some. It takes a lot for me to blow my top but this one woman pushed every possible button to piss me off and even the lady standing next me said she would rather go somewhere else. I ended up speaking with a manager who fixed the problem but if staff are that incompetent and actually lie to a customer you have to wonder how this person is still employed. As you notice I did give IKEA a star simply because they do sell some very inexpensive household items, even though some of the rugs and curtain designs look like they were created by a visually impaired individual having an acid flashback. Both my partner and I are Asian and European mixed and he has some Scandinavian heritage but even he looks at this stuff and thinks that's just not right. Now they do have everything from extension cords to drills and screw sets. They have inexpensive picture frames, dishes, kitchen gadgets and floor mats just to name a few useful things. But now here's the problem.... let's say you filled up your big bags with lots of items, how do you feel about turning a corner and seeing a line that is insanely long? I just wanted a non-stick matt for the back door and after 40 minutes on line I just gave up. It's ridiculous to have to wait that long for one item. Here's an idea Ikea, why not open up some of the other registers! The majority of them were closed. How does this make any sense and how is this a good business model? My first time at IKEA and I'm blown away by the sheer magnitude of...stuff. And all affordable! I can't wait for the Las Vegas IKEA to open up this summer so I can compare it to this one in Renton. Since I've last visited, July 2015, it appears there have been a lot of changes to this location, mainly, parking, so I can't comment on that. It's a good thing they don't ship to Hawaii (I've asked) because if that was the case, I'd be carrying a balance on all my credit cards. The most amazing thing here, aside from the restaurant with their Swedish meatballs (so good, my friend packed a cooler to take home to Hawaii) was the small living, 312 sq. feet tiny home display. I can't imagine a home so small, but the designers managed to pull off a luxurious 312 sq feet "home" complete with bedroom, "office", full kitchen, bathroom. I can't comment on the actual furniture products as I was not as fortunate to experience this part of IKEA, but as far as service, value, food, parking, location, gadgets and innovative ideas and creative products, this gets my 5-star vote! read more

NEVER ORDER ANYTHING FROM IKEA ON ONLINE!! I had bought a deck tile from them months ago and it finally came last week. We didn't like it wanted to return it but it came in 6 huge boxes! So we had tried to schedule a pickup but their customer service is terrible on the phone and wouldn't pick up. They directly put you in their automated line and basically you're just waiting for nothing and is pointless. I then tried to return it at the store but their return service ends at 6. When I was at the store which I drove to for over an hour they had the most customer service ever. I had called the store before going to make sure I could return it many times over the span of two days! They would not pick up and so I decided to go and return it since they don't close at 9. I went and the manager or the "person in charge" was rude and almost patronizing me. I had explained that I had tried to call their store many times but they wouldn't answer and so I came. Then they had told me this was a new thing and that I needed to come tomorrow but I have work which doesn't end until after 6. He then had responded that I need to go back tomorrow and started to explain these bookings. Which does not make sense at all as you would think that a big company would have an easier return device compared to smaller companies. He started saying that I was the one who wrote the hours on the website. I checked the website says NOTHING ABOUT THE CLOSING HOURS OF THE RETURN SERVICE. He then acted that I was lying about looking at the website. The way that he acted was very condescending. Also I am not a Karen nor I am overreacting. DO NOT ORDER ONLINE FROM IKEA! After visiting the IKEA Renton store and confirming our choice of new dining table and chairs, we went home and placed an online order for delivery (we don't have a pickup truck). About 2 weeks later, the delivery date (a 12-hour window which requires you to stay home all day) came and went. No communication came from IKEA to let us know why. Being a tech-minded person, I immediately went to Twitter to see if anyone was complaining of similar behavior and was horrified to find post after post. People have been waiting weeks - some even months - with no communication or updates. Calls placed to their 888 number are deflected to their automated system where you are then disconnected because they're blaming COVID-19 for everything. We eventually found their direct number from the BBB website and got through to a real person in Renton. We promptly cancelled our order after being told ALL items are backordered. Adding insult to injury, our over $800 refund will apparently take three to four weeks (if we can believe them) to process. Thankfully, we purchased using a credit card instead of a debit account and our bank has started an investigation into this whole transaction while they are working on a 48 hour refund for us. read more

Four stars because I am a fan of IKEA and all of its wonderful, shaky, disposable furniture. I'm not, however, a fan of feeling like cattle as I try to navigate my way through the pressed wood maze that is the store itself. I mean, really people, I know that there's a lot to see and do and dream about when you are wandering the IKEA-land, but for the love of Jose, please do that seeing and doing and dreaming ON THE SIDE OF AISLE. It never fails that someone will STOP and, I don't know, chat or daydream, or fall into a lingonberry induced stupor RIGHT IN THE MIDDLE OF THE AISLE. This causes me to become that insane woman dodging through the "secret" doorways, dragging my poor, family along behind me. (The kids only came for the promise of soft serve at the end). Okay, back to Ikea. Love it. I grab so many things when I come through here, glasses and plants, artwork, dishes, rugs, and so many tea lights that my husband has put a permanent ban on my purchasing of any more, ever. You name it, it's probably been in the store at one point or another. The lines are manageable. The staff pretty helpful. Parking is a wank right now, but they're working on that, so be patient. The kids club! Totally worth the wait, if there is one. Drop the kiddos off, they get to play and draw and chill out and you get to have an Ikea-date. Shopping here is sometimes fun and sometimes infuriating. Today it's infuriating! Last week we bought blinds that were too see through. At the check out it says you have a year to return. That would be only if you have the patience to do so. We came in at 11AM now it's 12:25, we are # 48 and they're only on # 43 so far. Two hours to stand in line to return an item seems insane, what is IKEA thinking? Now we are standing in line at the checkout. 29 registers and only 4 open. Lines every where. Love IKEA! It's that kind of store where you go in for a few key items and end up finding a ton of items that you didn't know you needed, but can't live without. Based on what my friends have said over the years, I think I'm just lucky when it comes to IKEA. I've never had broken or missing pieces, the large purchases I've made have been totally smooth, and I've never gotten lost inside the store. How can you not like ikea? For those unfamiliar with IKEA the first time you go you'll either spend more money than you thought you wouldor spend not a lot but get a lot of items. There will be "ooohs" and "ahhhs" and lots of "wow that's cool" or comments on the design of most of the products and how weird some of it is. IKEA is an experience, so I advise you to take it in in moderation. It's easy to get overwhelmed by all the cool stuff. Don't worry, you can always make a 2nd trip. You may need to get used to the carts that have wheels that go in all directions or having to pick up your own furniture (although the store assiciates will assist. IKEA is usually busy and the store itself is pretty big. It's basically a huge warehouse with different sections for all the needs of your life. When I took my friend we had to stop half way thru because she was tired. Tired of walking (of course she wore flats, as many women do nowadays....big mistake) The food court is pretty good if you need to stop. The food is cheap and it will fill you up just enough so you can make it the rest of the way through the store. There is also a snack/dessert food court after the checkouts, so you can reward yourself for making it through the whole store. Don't be afraid to quit your first time. Like I said you can always come back. It really is amazing to see what you can get in a very small space and live the way many euros do. When you do come back, you will be a seasoned IKEA shopper so you can probably jump right past the showrooms and cut through all the secret passageways to get directly to where you need to go and not get caught up in all the carts, kids, and shoppers who suddenly stop and just stand there. I have to go get a refund on something I was double charged for, and will never go back. And yes! They were out of EVERYTHING!!! The website said all the parts to the peg boards were in stock. Nope. The shelves were empty. Totally empty. I wanted that wood crate box...all gone. I was looking at a chair and shelf...gone. And so many other items empty I noticed that I wasn't shopping for myself. I recently bought a sturdy outdoors chair. The price was reasonable considering its quality. But the shipping was exorbitant ($50) for a distance of around 8 miles. It was nice that the chair was not in a box but odd. The deliverer just handed me the chair. It must weigh about 6 lbs and is not very big. How do they justify such a high shipping cost is beyond me. Many firms, including furniture stores such as offer free shipping. Maybe I should have tried Target...but I did want this chair, which had excellent reviews. Love coming to IKEA to shop and also eat. Everything is usually very organized. The food can be hit or miss in the cafeteria, but it's pretty cheap so I won't complain. Overall, we enjoy coming to IKEA. read more

We just moved again and bought a lot of decor and essentials again from IKEA to furnish our apartment. I love IKEA. For all the bad parts of the experience of shopping there in person, there's all the perks of getting modern, cool designs without going into debt forever. I don't mind investing in essentials. But IKEA is the best for everything else. This time around, we made about 4-5 trips to get and return things. And, as a whole, it wasn't too bad. I don't mind the quiet drive there. And I definitely suggest you plan a midday work week trip because weekends are hell. And here are some more IKEA courtesy tips from me: - I love kids. Don't bring them with you to hang out at IKEA. Please. Your kids hate it. We hate it. (Or do, but put them in the daycare) - Do not stop to check your list in the middle of an aisle (step to the side) - Do not stop to look at furniture in the middle of the aisle (step to the side) - Do not walk clumped into large groups of three or more in the middle of the aisle (I'm talking to you, extended family of 12, shopping together at IKEA for some god forsaken reason...) - Do not leave your cart blocking an aisle I know a lot of this seems obvious. But just go to IKEA on a Saturday and tell me anyone shopping there understands common courtesy. LOL. read more

I don't know why I decided to give this place another chance. We made the mistake of ordering a dinning table/chairs, two dressers, one bunk bed and one pull out type of couch for the upstairs office. We needed delivery as we were moving into our home, things were arriving damaged, delivery was weird because they outsource it, it was a nightmare. Dinning table is not used often, which is good as it does not seem sturdy. Dinning chairs, very light weight and cheaply made, one broke already, the chairs I wanted were not in stock, I kept checking back and not one person on the floor said more will be delivered to the new store, always got a "I don't know response", at the time they were building the new IKEA so OF course more are coming. The dressers are fine, they are for kids and are holding up thankfully. The bunk started squeaking within months of purchasing, so regret that purchase. The pull out couch always showed up cracked in the drawer, we got sick of them bringing new ones, so we kept it, they gave a discount, the crack doesn't affect the use of the couch but the idea of buying something new and it coming broke every time was SO frustrating, don't even get me started on returning the broken couches, they set it up but the new delivery people were so confused and eventually had to send a new company to pick up. Fast forward 6 years later, got a nightstand because it matches one of the dressers in our basement. Get it all put together, except the last drawer, as usual the directions are always a joke, nothing is labeled but the bag of screws. Nothing is lined up but I know how to put together furniture and did not expect much. The pieces of wood in the last drawer were not drilled at all. I reached out to customer service, great experience there, they got in touch with me right away. Was very impressed, I sent pictures of the boards without the drilled holes and the the picture in the booklet of what I don't have. They sent stuff out immediately but I got the exact same thing I already have...I need this board and will honestly say we will never step foot in there again. read more

Getting food at IKEA is basically a mandatory ritual when you make it there. There is certainly nothing fancy about the IKEA food/cafeteria, but it is strangely good. Oh, and CHEAP. You can get things like lingonberry juice and pear juice and classics like Swedish meatballs and cordon bleu. And at the end of your journey through the giant retail warehouse, you can get two hot dogs and a soda for 2$. The store itself....well it's a giant home furnishings store. Not much else to say....except that it is crazy busy on weekends. So be prepared for long lines. read more

When it comes to basics for the house and cheap furnishings, Ikea excels. It is a huge store, but kind of a drive from Bellevue. At least it is close to Great Wall Mall making it a 1-2 shopping experience with 99 Ranch Market. There is always something to be found here that I never knew that I needed at Ikea. There is tons of parking here, though obviously less availability on weekends and usually parking spaces are found a farther walk from the entrance of the store. They have multiple showrooms for every part of your house, but mostly I skip to finding the goods. The furniture here is okay, though of course it requires assembly. There is a delivery service which looks to be a decent deal though I have not used it. This would probably be needed for larger items. Like that they have a cafeteria and Costco-esque fast food area near the registers. Like the lattes here and they are cheap. Like a buck I think. Also, the Swedish food area is excellent and definitely a welcomed introduction to Swedish cuisine. Where else could you find these goods outside of heading to Ballard? Overall, I like Ikea for their budget minded goods. Items here are basic, but stylish. And that is what counts. read more
