Absolute worse customer service ever. Have spent one month trying to get an item. It was out of stock when I arrived at the store. Called the 800 number and was told I would get an email when the item was back in stock. I never received an email but noted the item was in stock. Drove back to the store in another state, which required me to pay a hefty bridge toll, only to find out upon arrival that it was closed for the day despite the website indicating otherwise. I ordered the item for delivery. Called multiple times to confirm delivery. Every customer service rep told me something that contradicted the prior rep. Received notification today the item would arrive. I had ordered an ottoman. What arrived today was the fabric for the ottoman but not the ottoman. The driver had no information. He told me to call the 800 number. I've done that three times and each time was disconnected. I've now spent $215 for a piece of fabric!!!!! Worst store ever. Will sue. read more

I purchased some products during the first week of January . I had them delivered . The delivery was right on time . 5-9 ok and he rang my bell at 4:58pm. He actually called in the morning to deliver but I told him stick to the time we arranged . I tipped them. The store itself is a normal ikea . I'm a fan of IKEA design, prices and kid-friendly vibe, but this location really lets down the brand. Staff are few, ill-informed and seem disengaged. Long lines for checkout and pick-up. Many items on display seem to be out of stock on the day I went (mostly lighting). Puts me off a return trip. read more

Its Ikea, lots of stock is broken, missing parts, and just flat out ikea quality. Kinda deserving of its own category I call "stop gap". Does that job but don't fill any more gaps than necessary. Make sure you carefully inspect packaging and get exactly what you need and nothing more. read more

Not a good idea if you don't have hours of free time to commit to waiting for deliveries and/or on hold. Also not a good idea if you think you are saving money with Ikea. What a terrible experience. In addition to the delivery coming several days after requested, several items were missing because they were 'not in stock'. This is odd, since everything was in stock when we were in the store. What really angered me is that instead of refunding us for the items not in stock, they gave us a gift card (they called it a return card) for the amount. This card is almost useless, since I have no intention of coming back. Even if I did, I would have to repay for another delivery, making the effective value of this card 30% less than it should be. You might think you will be getting something inexpensive at Ikea, but paying for items we never got eliminates that advantage. I would have saved money by going to a more expensive place. That leads me into the terrible time with customer service. The first time I called about the delivery, they agreed to refund my delivery fee since it was several days late. I have yet to receive a refund. The second time I called about changing the gift card into a refund on my credit card, and then I couldn't even get past hold. I don't have an afternoon to wait on hold with Ikea to ask for something they should have done to begin with. read more

I love IKEA. We have little kids, so almost all our furniture is from IKEA. I hate the IKEA in Paramus. Most of the people who work there just don't care. The IKEA in Paramus is the closest one to us and we have been there a dozen times. Almost every trip we have gone, we end up at customer service because something was mischarged or needed to be delivered. Customer service is a huge time suck everywhere you go, but in IKEA, they take it to a new level of horribleness. The representatives are often rude and appear to do very little. You get the sense that they are just trying to get the minimum done and count down the clock. I had a project in mind for Christmas and wanted to get fabric from IKEA. So we went Monday, when I thought it would be far less crowded than Saturday. I was careful and filled out the label clearly. We waited ages in line. Then the cashier typed in the wrong number. I told her it was incorrect and she told me I had just misread the screen. So I paid and found I had been right. She had charged me for an extra yard of fabric (roughly $4) and now the only place we could fix that was Customer Service. We picked number 114 from the ticket dispenser and they were only on 98, with 1 person actively helping and 2 others sauntering around pushing returns around. We waited a good 15 minutes and watched the ticket counter barely move up. The question then became....how much was our time worth? Were we going to wait there for 45 minutes to get $4 back? In the end we left IKEA without having the issue resolved. It was a such a demoralizing experience. read more

Im not a particular fan about shopping here, but they do have a great place to have lunch. The food is quite tasty but the view is where the sweet spot is. You can sit in Ikea for half an hour and stare out the windows. I like the buffalo chicken wrap with kettle cooked potato chips and most importantly the price is right for the wallet. read more

Do not shop at this store. Don't expect much from online support. I went to this ikea to buy the Malm bed. When buying the bed in the warehouse there are instructions to take 2 boxes (labeled 1 and 2). After taking my two boxes I went to an ikea employee and asked I have these two boxes can you assure me that I have everything I need for the Malm bed. The employee reassured me that I had everything. After getting to my nyc apartment I assemble the bed and it's missing two parts (that come separately in another box). Now I have to order online and wait 4 days and sleep on the floor. This is a huge inconvenience but something I can deal with. The reason for this review is the $69 dollar delivery fee for an issue that came from ikea false instructions and misleading from an employee. Now I have to be inconvenienced and pay the price of a delivery fee. So I reached out to customer support and Yankit in chat support refused to help waive the delivery fee on my simple and fair request. I used to think very highly of ikea but after this poor experience of both in store and online I will not be shopping here anymore. read more

DO NOT repeat DO NOT ever buy IKEA products that need professional assembly and are too large to do it your self. This advice is for people who plan to move and will need to dismantle the items (such as wall units or armoires, etc). I bought a rather expensive (by IKEA standards) wall unit in 2011 and had it professionally installed at that time - and was reassured by the IKEA salesperson as well as the assemply company that I would be able to move the wall unit professionally (at an extra cost of course) when ever I moved or wanted to relocate the wall unit. Surprise, surprise - the company that assembles IKEA products no longer dismantles or reassembles IKEA stuff when a customer moves. In other words, you are on your own once you have bought the furniture and need to take it with you. Considering IKEA is a furniture giant - and is sold throughout the world, you would think that they would have a service vendor for this kind of situation. What awful customer service! Called their store and they had no advice to offer. Will never buy large IKEA products again. It's an elephant in the room!!!! Shame on IKEA. read more

Ahhhh, Ikea. It takes forever to get through the place, and it takes forever to check out. The stuff in there is okay. Generally medium quality at a medium price. The Swedish meatballs though... so good and so cheap! My first time in here was actually with a chick I worked with, who dragged me in for lunch. This place is straight up labyrinth. Real easy to get lost here. Came here with a friend a couple weeks ago and it was kind of crazy. The bedding section was in disarray being that most of them were unmade. The place was an homage to the unmade bed. Nearly every bed had a body to occupy it. People like to come in here and kind of lounge. It's basically a free for all. Me and my friend were wasting a lot of time looking for a dresser and memory foam mattress cover. They didn't have the mattress cover but they had the dresser which fit in my car pretty nicely. Luckily the have a computer so you can locate what you are looking for. I was going to try the notorious 50 cent hot dog but the line was so long I didn't even bother. Ikea, a place where one can truly lose their mind in a see of unmade beds, lazy loungers, and lots of commotion. Looking for the particle board piece of furniture of your dreams is sure to be a mission. This place is a nut house! read more

In typical Ikea fashion, our interaction with them went something like this: -- Scour the website and catalogue to determine the BEST couch for your home. Settle on one that isn't perfect, but is cheap enough to justify the decision. "Settle" is a deliberate verb choice here. -- Rent a car, because the idea of spending 3 hours round-trip on public transportation in the freezing cold is absurd. -- Get to Ikea. Decide to eat some of their "I don't know why this is so cheap but the ribs are good so who cares" food before you enter the Gates of Hell because if you do this on an empty stomach you'll probably maul someone. -- After miles of showroom, finally find the one thing you were looking for the whole time. -- Stand in front of it, tilt your head to the side, and say, with disappointing and heavy inevitability, "Huh." -- Start scanning the room for any other choice--literally ANYTHING--that could justify the expense and time you just forked out to do this. -- Find a couch that is actually decent, but 15 inches longer than the original couch. Begin mentally redecorating your entire apartment to see if the couch could fit. Fortunately, you brought your own measuring tape, so take extensive measurements of four or five different options. -- Spend another 2 hours buried in the bowels of Ikea, alternately horrified by the sudden flood of people, getting distracted by shiny objects, and trying to find your way out. -- Get into a fight, right as you're leaving, because Ikea is the place where relationships go to die. -- Head to Kao Soy, whose Thai food is the only thing that will make you feel human again and will make you feel better about making this trip. -- Go home. Spend a couple of hours measuring and reorganizing your entire apartment. -- Finally order the couch. Or, try to. The website keeps rejecting your order and losing your order list. -- Finally order the couch. Plus several other items that are needed in your new and improved living room. -- Get the couch! Yay! Count the number of screws and L-wrenches. They're miraculously all there. Double yay! -- Oh, but nope. It couldn't be perfect. Ikea is too cheap for perfection. One of the three pieces of your brand-new modular sofa is broken. And for once it's not the delivery guy's fault. -- Proceed to spend approximately nine hours on hold and talking to Ikea representatives on the phone for the next two weeks. -- (Side note: all while sitting on a modular sofa that is not screwed together because the piece that is broken happens to be the first piece that has to get screwed in. Literally every time we sit down the whole thing rolls out or the armrest falls over.) -- Two weeks later: rejoice when Ikea not only says they will send you a replacement piece, but apologizes and gives you $100 for your trouble. Yay! Let's ignore the fact that they forgot to deliver one of our other items in the last delivery. -- The night before delivery, get super excited. -- Only to get an email from the delivery company that says your pickup for your returned item is now at the wrong time and not merged with the delivery, which is now scheduled for the wrong day. . . . we still don't have the couch. Do NOT buy a kitchen at Ikea. RUN to anywhere else. I have no idea about the quality or anything else. I bought and fully paid for a complete kitchen on 8/22/2014 today is 1/20/2015. It is simply impossible to reach anybody by email or phone. I have made in excess of 70 telephone calls and either been caught in a voice mail loop. Or as this very minute been in a hold pattern for 32 minutes Last week I literally drove an hour to the store to get this delivery set up. It was supposedly set up and I recieved an email stating that I would be notified the day before about a time frame. I never received that call. And my pet peeve about this IKEA is the multi level parking that is not so descriptive (red level, green level, what do they mean?). So so so angry right now! Two weeks ago we placed an order for delivery on a sofa. We would have like it within a few days of ordering, because we have guests from overseas, but they said 2 weeks. What can we do. Anyways, today was the day it's supposed to arrive, between 10 and two. I have an infant and my elderly MIL is staying with us so since my husband is working all day we were left to wait for the delivery guys. 2 pm comes and still no delivery, so I call. The automated system says it's in transit and in its way. I need to get things done and can't wait around any longer so I call to speak to someone. I'm told that the item wasn't in the warehouse and it could be delayed for up to a MONTH!!!!! First of all NO ONE called us to tell us this, after I gutted my living room and got rid of the sofa sleeper my MIL was sleeping on. That was quite difficult just the two of us with a baby moving everything around to make room for the new couch, then to just be told it's not coming! Now we will have to have to go out and spend money on something for her to sleep on! And there is no one to be held accountable. Just TS deal with it basically. Never again! read more

Customer Svc (hah!) told guy in front that he can't prove he bought IKEA stuff at IKEA so he'd have to wait for mgr. But NO ONE came - even after 45 min wait!?!! My item was in aisle x, bin #2. But bins started at #7 in that aisle. Asked Ikea dude walking by where to find bin 2. He said he was too busy. No one with him, talking to no one on blue-tooth, & certainly no hustle in his saunter. Must've been the mgr for returns! Wait at check-out register was long, but after investing so much time to find items, I felt committed. If I try to go here again, I should be committed -- to a psych ward!! Ikea in Maryland has people to help you lift heavy boxes, put in your car, acknowledge customers, etc. Not here & no one to be found! Too bad Paramus Ikea mgt hasn't taken a hint from marketing that friendly & helpful are good for business. IKEA makes very useful, well-designed products, of which I own several. We have been able to furnish our home well on a budget. However, their customer service regarding home delivery (Urban Express) when something goes wrong is UNACCEPTABLY bad. We purchased two pieces of large furniture on Tues. evening, and arranged delivery for Friday sometime between 10 and 10 (a MUCH bigger window then other stores, like Sears, provide for home delivery). Then Friday morning, after I had arranged to stay home from work, I was told it would be between 5 and 9, and that I could get a little more info. after 6. Then, I was told 7:30-8:30. At 9:45 PM, the driver showed up, clearly exhausted and overwhelmed (and late). Even though there were two men with the truck, one guy did all the work on these very heavy, awkward boxes. We noticed that one of the boxes was ripped and the furniture inside was gouged. We did not want to accept it, but the driver insisted we do, note the damage on the form, and call IKEA in the morning. We did so. We were then told that it would take 48-72 BUSINESS HOURS just to GET A CALL to ARRANGE REDELIVERY and pickup. This was unacceptable, and we made that clear - we could have walked into the store on Sat. morning, bought the same piece, and arranged for home delivery THAT DAY. At least, we asked to know what day next week they could redeliver so I could arrange to take off of work! After talking with 2 nice people who couldn't do anything to help, I spoke to a supervisor who said she would attempt to expedite this, and that I could expect a callback Sat. or Sun. with a redelivery and pickup date. That didn't happen. This morning, I got the runaround again and was ultimately directed to someone's voicemail. Unacceptable! The first rule of customer service is - if YOUR BUSINESS has screwed up, you fix it PROMPTLY. You are talking about a WEEK to fix damage when you have paid I am VERY disappointed in IKEA given my prior positive experiences with them. read more

Review for the Paramus store: Don't be snowed, although there is an employee at the front door to greet you and help you with directions on where to go, don't expect to find an employee once entering this gigantic warehouse. If you do find an employee, don't expect them to be friendly or courteous. They really don't want to be bother with "customer service." The shopping carts & push carts are a joke. The wheels are designed to roll any direction making it difficult to push you cart where you want it to go vs where it just decides to go. Needless to say, my cart consistently crashed into everything. Listen to what another reviewer said about parking. Park on the 2nd level where the check out is. Navigating the cart with my purchased products was a joke. Again, my cart went crashing into walls and whatever else was in the way. I bough adjustable shelving. I've not attempted to put it together yet, but I did inquire at the register about hardware being included. It is NOT. You will have to purchase these items at a hardware store, not in Ikea (at least that is what I was told). The store has lots of things. Go there when you have nothing better to do one day as it will take you forever to find someone to help you if you need help (and I went during the week in the morning when it was empty). There appears to be lots of "stuff" you can buy to decorate your place with. I did not inspect the quality as I was there for 1 thing. Maybe I'll go back one day when I have nothing to do, but believe me when I tell you, I will expect NOTHING when/if I go there again. Good luck. read more

IKEA has mastered the art of basic products, does AMAZING things with small apartment layouts (have you ever seen one of their +/- 400 sq. ft rooms!?), but they have THE WORST customer service. they are such a mechanical operation, that when you actually need a real person for assistance or try to get through by telephone for anything, FORGET IT!. it makes you wonder what futuristic operations are going to be like. as successful as they are, it seems they pay little attention on what to do when one of the robotic processes fails. oops, i dropped the jar. i am not programmed to handle this. oops, i dropped the jar. i am not programmed to handle this. p.s. while they do have great quality storage/kitchen cabinets that seem to be inexpensive at first glance, by the time you get all the hardware, etc. required, a tall storage cabinet will cost you several hundred dollars. read more

Customer Service is the worst. UX their delivery and assembly service only delivered three of five boxes of a sofa bed I purchased. It took two days and six phone calls to finally have a case # assigned to locate the missing boxes. That was three days ago, with no call back and I'm now on forever hold on the phone to try tracking it down again. Got the Fryele flashlight and asked the IKEA staff what batteries to use and they recommended regular Aa. When I got home and read the confusing instructions, the light actually required rechargeable AA batteries. I called the IKEA hotline to confirm and they still alleged it only required Regular AA. I installed regular AA and the light would flash indicating that there was a problem. They actually do require rechargeable AA now I have to drive all the way out to IKEA again because of their mistake and failure to accurately inform consumers about this requirement on their packaging. read more

IKEA. It's not just a store, but a cultural institution. I've been a fan of IKEA since 1993, long before it arrived in the NJ area. IKEA is great. It definitely has GREAT appeal when you are just starting out, but, I think, it has a continuing place even once you are more established. Here are some things I LOVE about IKEA. 1) Things are very reasonably priced. Though reasonably priced, you can still "grow" within the IKEA brand. For example, I have an armoire from IKEA and previously had a bed frame, and both were very nice, solid investments that have held up over time. I had a chest of drawers and it was a piece of crap. All were solid wood. I'd still have the bed frame, if I hadn't moved from a full size to queen size bed. It was very well made and I passed it along to a friend. 2) The Marketplace is great for things like baskets, sheepskins, picture frames, inexpensive glassware, etc. I recently was looking for cappuccino mugs. I didn't want the BORING white I seem to find everywhere else. I thought to check IKEA. Guess what? They had a nice selection of mugs that fit the bill. They weren't fancy, but they did vary in features and colors, based on price. You can find cool, unique things in the Marketplace. 3) Bedding is great. You can find reasonably price duvet covers here, for example. Here are a few caveats and/or disappointments. 1) The restaurant. Though the prices are good and they run daily specials, the food, at least at this location, is pretty subpar. I got the fish and chips last time I was there. The fries were pretty limp. The fish pieces were not uniformly sized. I requested the server give me different pieces, since she had given me too of the tiny pieces. She got an attitude with me and dumped half my my fries back into the bin. She had a real attitude. I know that, with the pricers, they can't afford the highest quality servers, but that experience really tarnished the IKEA brand, at least for me. Unless i am starving, I'll get my sustenance elsewhere. 2) Some of the lower price quality is on the crappy side. I would steer away from dressers or anything with moving parts. I have heard good things about their kitchens, but I am reluctant to take that plunge, due to the disappointing experience I had with a chest of drawers. When you can't open 3 of the drawers, it sort of limits the functionality. I ended up buying a new one at Raymour and Flannigan, with a warranty, and so far, so good. SOmetimes, you do get what you pay for. 3) Sometimes staff can be a little jerky. One time we arrived early and started walking through the store. We didn't "know" we were early. There was no barrier up. Some woman chased us down and "accused" us of going under the barricade. I guess someone forgot to put that barricade up, because there was no barricade. She was very unpleasant. I know it's her attitude problem, but it was a very unpleasant start to our shopping experience. If you've not tried IKEA, it's definitely worth checking out. Items are conveniently flat packed to help keep prices down. For an additional charge, you can get delivery and/or installation. for a bit more, they'll even grab the merchandise off the shelves. For heavy items, or if you just don't have a tolerance for the insanity, this can be a real Godsend. read more
