If you're from Baltimore you've been to Ikea. If you aren't you have HEARD of Ikea. The mecca of cheap furniture that you put together will allen wrenches. The store is always clean and organized. If you need to work with a small space this company designed itself around you. If you aren't working with a small space, you probably don't want the cheap pine furniture, but if it's all you can afford, it does work for your needs. I'm giving the store a 4 because of the cleanliness and organization. Staff is always helpful and if you're hungry there's food. They lay the store out in rooms so you can see what your space could look like and get ideas, and then you leave through the warehouse where you pick up the items you want. Not a 5 because of the product quality. read more

Ikea is full of interesting home and office ideas...their furniture is sized right for urbane, young Americans who move a lot, because it is sized for smaller urban homes, condos and apartments. The BEST: the prices are very affordable and everything is made with recycling in mind. The WORST: the quality is flimsy. You won't find stuff that would become family "heirlooms", it's made with low cost, recyclable, and disposable in mind. read more

The second Ikea I visited in the first two days I moved to the DC area! I went to the one in College Park and got a whole bunch of stuff. Unfortunately, they were sold out of the sofa bed frame I needed. The computer system indicated it was in stock at this store so the next day I made the hour and 15 min drive out to the Baltimore area. The Ikea is located in a mega shopping complex with a little outdoor mall nearby as well as a Macy's and Sears. So, maybe I should have just gone there first and gotten everything I needed at once. The frame I needed was in stock, but wasn't on the shelf in the self-service area. I asked about it at the Info area and he printed up a ticket for me. After I paid I went to the furniture pick up area. This was the only bad part of the experience because I wasn't really sure how long it was going to take and there was no one around. I think there was one really huge order just before me so everyone was occupied with that. When I finally did get my item I could see why it wasn't on the shelf. It was 80 lbs. Luckily I was able to get some help putting it in my car. Once we got it home we took it up to the apartment piece by piece rather than trying to drag up that monster box. (I recommend this method.) When I need design inspiration, I like to wander the rooms at IKEA. It has a great selection of home furnishings with European/Swedish inspiration.The lighting is fun and affordable and isn't your run of the mill flush mount or pendant. You'll find energy efficient light fixture and the bulbs to get things lit up. If you aren't looking for furniture or an assembly project, you can pick up inexpensive, uncomplicated accessories like pillows, rugs, pictures, plants, etc. Go early and have breakfast. The cafe is great. It is one of the least expensive places to have breakfast. Eggs, bacon and home fries. All for under $5. I love that they serve food on ceramic plates and glasses. read more

This is my favorite place to furniture shop - and I hate shopping for furniture! But Ikea has a small food court with cheap hot dogs and $1 frozen yogurt cones, so if I get one on my way in, then furniture shopping (or just browsing) is a lot more fun! They also have a restaurant on the second floor where you can get full lunches or dinners for a good price. Once in awhile they offer 99 cent breakfasts on the weekends (sign up for their emails!) or even free dinners if you spend a certain amount in the store. Just make sure you come early or be prepared to stand in a long line. In addition to the food, Ikea also has Småland on the first floor, which is a play area where you can drop your kids off while you shop. I have yet to use this service though because it starts at age 2 (and potty trained) and my daughter just turned one a couple months ago. I know Ikea has the reputation for having stereotypical college dorm room/recent grad furnishings, but they do have some really nice stuff. If you look past the cheapest of their items, you can find some really good quality things. The Malm bedroom set seems to be pretty popular and I have a few friends that have it. My sister has it as well and her bed and dressers have been through three different moves and has held up. This item is college dorm room worthy, but will last beyond those times. One of my favorite parts in the store is the "As Is" section. Kind of hidden on the first floor to the right of the cashiers is a room filled with items that people have bought, put together and then returned. Some of the items have minor defects like scratches or dents, but some are perfectly fine and it is all discounted from the original sale price. One of the most annoying things about buying Ikea furniture is putting it together and if you find something you like in As Is, then you don't have to worry about doing that! Also, on Wednesdays, everything in As Is is 50% off!! We found a really great bookshelf that was originally $200, marked to $150 in As Is and bought it on a Wednesday for $75! And it was already put together. You just can't beat that! Besides furniture, you can also find neat decorations, lamps, kitchen utensils, kids toys and playroom activities, fabric, bathroom items and really anything. I love their selection of picture frames and usually pick a couple up on each visit. Ikea is great if you need some ideas to change the style of your room or if you are just bored and want somewhere to walk around for awhile. And of course, there is furniture :) read more

Swedish Pancakes and Swedish Meatballs are the way to go. Oh, and anytime you can get a side of lingonberries... do, but I guess if you're not a cranberry sauce on Thanksgiving type of person - you prob won't dig it as much as I do. Now that you're operating on a full stomach, you can cruise around and imagine the possibilities. I primarily like to use Ikea as a source of interior inspiration. They have neat ideas and I like to steal them. I rarely purchase any of their furniture because most of their pieces are not built as solidly as I'd like them, but they are a good place to shop for accessories and accent furniture. *A recent bonus to dining before you shop is that they deduct your tab from you store purchase if totaling $100 or more... so eat up! read more

This place is great! First food: I'm only ever had breakfast here and I must say, it's worth it. it's cheap and it's enough to get your going for a morning of wondering through the rest of the place. Scrambled eggs, bacon and some hash browns were plenty! Now the rest: This place is huge! Everything is set up so that you can see how it looks which is nice if you go in not really knowing what you'll be buying. They have tons of staff around to assist and they are very helpful. Upstairs is where the displays are and downstairs is where they sell most everything. I could seriously spend an entire day in there and not see everything. Plus they always have new stuff and great bargains. You do have to be aware though that some things sold here are not very well made and may not last as long as you'd think. Do your research and read all labels and know weight limits for things like shelves. They aren't kidding when they say a shelf will only hold 10 pounds! read more

As I said i can spend way too much money in this store. The top floor is the showroom, you casually stroll through and get inspiration. The bottom floor is where i get into trouble. That's where you can buy kitchen gadgets, curtains, room decor, rugs, etc. etc. After you wonder through all that you come to the warehouse, here you can find your big furniture pieces. They are all organized by bin and aisle numbers. I do recommend bring a big truck if you plan on buying big pieces. Shipping can be very expensive. Also build it yourself once you get home. They offer to build it for you but that's $$$. read more

Worst customer experiences I've had. But here's the thing: it's not just the actual in-store employees, but major systemic issues throughout the IKEA enterprise. The computer systems that track inventory within the stores do not truly reflect stock, and employees appear equally dumbfounded on how to use internal systems. I went to the IKEA in College Park in an attempt to get a specific dining room table. This table could not be ordered online The website said there were 5x in-stock at this location. When we arrived, there was none. The College Park IKEA rep tried to call the IKEA in Baltimore to confirm if the merchandise was there but no one will pick-up. There is no mechanism to purchase the furniture at one store for another store to hold until pick-up. We waited until the following weekend and again called the Baltimore IKEA to confirm if they had the furniture. Again, no one picked up. So we tried our luck and went to the Baltimore IKEA 40 miles away. Luckily, the Baltimore location had it. So now Part 2 of the saga that is IKEA: we asked to have it delivered. IKEA requires someone to sign-off on the furniture when it arrives and will not tell you the time of delivery until the night before. We get the call, and its set to come in the middle of day. So my husband takes off of work. The furniture never arrives. Later in the day, I receive a voicemail from a third-party delivering company explaining that they lost the merchandise but later found it; unfortunately, delivery will need to be rescheduled. So we rescheduled several days later. Again, no one came. I called and was told my furniture was lost again. Except this time, it was truly lost. I was told they will call IKEA to let them know. I then proceeded to call IKEA to talk to customer service, and an automatic message comes up that they are not taking calls due to heavy call volume. I like IKEA furniture and often have fun exploring their goods. However, there is non-existent customer service at IKEA in Baltimore (I have yet to talk to a rep) and processes are broken throughout. There is really little recourse for a customer to take if there are issues. While writing this review, I noticed others wrote scathing reports on IKEA's delivery service. My only regret is that I did not consult Yelp first to see the writing on the wall. read more

I go there and walk around and its all put togther too. its all layed out so you can imagine how it will look in your apartment even down to the window and dinner settings. It definitley makes you think about making your place nicer and its very reasonable for pricing. I ordered a piece of furniture two weeks ago, and assembly. Delivery was set for the day after tomorrow. Tonight I received a delayed delivery notice with no new date. Reading between the lines it looks like at least another week. First IKEA will notify me when it leaves their warehouse, then 2-3 days later the local delivery will give me a date. Assembly, of course, will not be scheduled until the piece is delivered. This is terrible service in this day and age. We've been spoiled by Amazon. My last order with IKEA. read more

Granted, if you've been in an IKEA, you've learned that it takes a while to get around. Not to mention depending on where you are in Baltimore it cost to get there due to the tolls. My wife and I spent 2 hours picking out a thousand bucks worth of king bed, mattress, and bedding only to have it go in vain because they didn't have a $10 part that held it all together! No heart felt apology. No we'll ship it to you (wouldn't ship because it was only $10. Just a "we'll have more in tomorrow." So the second time around (3 tolls later and hour round trip commute), we come in again, go through the same song and dance, check out only to have some snotty nose teenager respond to our question of can this cart stay here while we pull up our truck with "well as long as you're back to get it by 9, we close." Are you kidding me?! Not to mention he stared at me while watching me struggle to load my own stuff into the back of my truck as I didn't want my wife to strain herself. Granted there were a few helpful people within the store which is why it's a 2 instead of 1, this kid at the large items claim cage tainted the whole experience for me. read more

I had a stressful experience to say the least. I went to Ikea to purchase a new dresser, everything went relatively smooth otherwise than the fact that there was no one to help load the furniture onto the truck last friday evening. When I arrive home, I open the first box and I immediately notice chipped paint and a dent on two of the pieces. Disappointed I decided to stop the unboxing process and began to think about returning the item. Fast forward to Thursday, after much thinking I figured it was way more of a hassle to return the item than it was to keep it, hoping that the chipped paint was not noticeable once it was assembled. I began to open the second box and little bugs began to come out of the boxes (little spiders and another unknown crawling bug). Pretty disgusted and angry at this point I go out of my way to find someone who would let me use their truck and help me load the heavy boxes. The return specialist was nice and efficient. I asked for a discount on a future purchase due to the fact that 1) It was a 45 mins drive 2) Chipped paint and 3) BUGS. She called a manager, and she was less than pleasant. She asked what was going on and started questioning in a tone of disbelief. I showed her pictures of the chipped paint and bugs. She then proceeded to ask where I live to see if in fact it was an inconvenience for me to get to the store. She may have looked at me once during the whole conversation. She then told Sarah (the return specialist) to give me a 20 and walked away. I would understand if I was being rude or loud but honestly I just wanted to go home with a non-chipped, non bug infested dresser and I don't think that was too much to ask for seeing as though I had to make a 45 mins trip to White Marsh. I had also attempted to resolve the issue by email, to see if possibly they were able to pick up the dresser since I do not own a pick up truck to transport the items but they were the least helpful after taking 3 days to reply to my email. Needless to say, I think I will refrain from purchasing large items from Ikea again. read more

The best accessible Ikea North of the City. This place has all of the flat pack furniture you could ever ask for. Its great for filling up a dorm room or starting out. Some / most of the furniture needs to be assembled but if you put it together properly, it will last.... if not it will wobble and later on fall when someone leans on it or sits in it ;) "The Good" - The people are cool, very chill and helpful. - Surprisingly the food, Come in for the food... buy a sofa, interesting strategy, but it works. - Huge parking lot, but the loading area can get clogged with the folks that think they have the right to drop off and pick up people who are lazy. - A ton of cool kitchen gadgets.. the things you never knew you needed. - A scratch and dent section by the registers. "The Meh" - Occasional Sprawl of a sales floor with a "forced" line that makes you walk through the entire store to see all of their product, but you can bypass it. "The Bad" - Nothing Really bad to comment on. read more

WHY I WENT THERE: Mooovin' tiiiiime WHAT I LOVED: All the Ikea stuff. Duh. WHAT I LEARNED THE HARD WAY: a LOT! Tiny store with worse selection than Ikea Woodbridge. WORST CUSTOMER SERVICE I HAVE EVER EXPERIENCED. First, while at the store multiple times over a week's period (ah, moving), they would have only one register going with a line of 15-20 customers backed, with lots of other Ikea staff milling around the warehouse area. I had to wait 25 minutes to get my Furniture pick up, and the real KICKER is my damaged merchandise. I bought some hemnes bookcases (solid wood and not cheap!) and when I got them home, the wood panels had deep gashes as though they had been split down the middle. I've been calling for days and after about 2 hours on hold with their call center and multiple promises that the store would "definitely" call me back "today," I still have no resolution (and no call from the store). I have spent *so* much money at this stupid store...but next time I will trek to College Park or Woodbridge instead. BE WARNED! read more

Ikea is heaven on earth for home decor and accessories. There is something for everyone there and the showroom walk through makes it possible to really in-vision the look and feel of the products. Everything is so reasonably priced it is shocking sometimes. Don't forget to become an ikea family member (bonus card) for extra discounts, free coffee and tea an promotions at no cost. I love Ikea. Their products blend traditional and modern styles beautifully. My only complaints are: the store has kind of a weird flow, and it's easy to get lost if you're not familiar with it. Also, there have been many times that I've come here and there are tons of people in line, with only 2 registers open. Other than that, though, this place is like heaven. IKEA Distribution Center, Perryville MD is forcing all there employees to continue working in the warehouse even though all there store locations are closed. They found a loophole in what the governor said about none essential businesses closing, just so the can stay open and put all their employees at risk. Multiple people from this warehouse have had fevers and sent home, yet the refuse to shut down just so they can keep making money for themselves. It's selfish in my opinion because without your employees you have no company. It makes me sick because they are not staying open to help anyone but themselves. The employees are all being forced to wear masks too, which is okay, but those masks are being wasted in my opinion because they could be being worn by doctors and nurses who are actually making a difference at this time, Not a selfish crappy furniture company. #boycottikeaforendangeringemployees read more

I've been to IKEAs across the US (and in the Middle East, even) for decades and this is as good as any other. Where can you go for furniture at such cheap prices - and if you pick right - and decent quality? Granted, not everything is A1 quality, but some things are pretty good. Much of their goods are beautifully designed and timeless. I've not had a problem returning merchandise. A good hint is to visit the "As Is" section for even better buys. Be sure to check out their restaurant and try the Swedish meatballs. Love it! read more

We were on our way home (Gaithersburg) from NY, and were going to stop at a rest stop, but when we exited, lo and behold! An IKEA!! So, we decided to go there instead for the rest stop. Pretty typical IKEA, but the showcases are different from the College Park store. We also HAD to eat some cheap foods here. They have a slightly different selection of condiments from the College Park one (many more salad dressings). Overall, pretty typical though. read more

First time visit to this location. We typically shop in the Conshohocken location. The store was packed - I guess that's what we get for going on President's Day weekend. The staff were very, very helpful - pleasantly surprised, as it's usually hard to even track them down. Would have given it 5 stars, but they did not carry (not out of stock) two items I wanted that were not sold online - they asked me to try College Park. This is the first Ikea visit I've made since moving to the east coast (I've been here for a year). I usually avoid this place like the plague, but I figured I'd taken a long enough break.... and it's been some years since I was a college student, so lets see what they have!! It hasn't changed much, lots of cute accessories and reasonably priced/ functional household items. i'm just over putting furniture together... which didn't stop me from purchasing a book shelf. I must say this IKEA is smaller than those in Southern California, I expected to have a longer walk through the show room area- when it was over, I was surprised. Bought a great high table, now I just need some chairs! lol And now they have a computer down in the pick up area where you can just find your product and go right to it, as opposed to going through the ENTIRE store and ending up buying 4 more pieces of furniture you really don't need and more over, do not want to put together. This is one of the few Ikea stores in the area (does College Park count as "in the area"?) so naturally, it is my favorite. I've had many a bed fram from here, as well as other odds and ends. Sure, sometimes the product can be a bit sketchy, but for the price I paid for said sketchy item, I knew what I was getting myself into. The place is also huge, and does get crowded on weekends. There are always plenty of workers around though to give you a hand. They also have a food court The upstairs one has some pretty good meals (Sewdish Meatballs are great) and the downstairs one has good ice cream for a $1. You can't beat that unless you go to McDonalds. read more
