If you're like me, you enjoy finding deals on Craigslist but do sometimes get drawn into Ashley Furniture or much nicer places looking for a furniture set that isn't used. My advice would be to check out CORT's offerings before you head to IKEA or some stranger's house for cheap or used furniture. I would not call CORT's selection "used" so much as "refurbished." When I entered I was immediately greeted by a kind saleswoman (Dee) who asked if she could tell me a little about the business. I agreed, and she gave a brief (~2 minute) explanation: CORT rents furniture to corporate office/housing clients, and if the furniture can no longer be rented but is in good shape, it enters their clearance outlets. Before it does, however, it is sanitized, cleaned, and repaired to ensure it is in the best shape possible. Of course, some furniture is immaculate while others show some sign of wear: pricing reflects this accordingly. Unlike most furniture shops, I was never hassled by the staff and could browse without being badgered or "assisted." When I did have questions, the staff was quick to answer them and wait on me if I had further inquiries or concerns. The selection at Catonsville is pretty extensive: everything from lower-end couches and loveseats to some very high-quality sofas, sectionals, sleepers, etc. are available. They also have a sizeable collection of office furniture, bedroom sets, and TV stands in stock, all of which were in good to excellent condition and reasonably priced. Because the furniture has to be rented out, most of it is at least moderate quality--cheap items don't last long and are a poor investment for a place like CORT. I ultimately chose two Burton sofas--one of which was a sleeper--and a complementary coffee and cocktail/end table set. The sofa was in mint condition while the sleeper had a few blemishes noticeable only to someone inspecting the furniture for purchase (which you obviously should always do, hah). Regardless, when the time came to make a deal, Dee, always the professional, was willing to slash the price by 50 bucks as I'd pointed out these minor stitch jobs. On that end, I couldn't have been more pleased with the buying process. Many furniture stores will boast about "this weekend only" sales or claim that they cannot come down a cent further on furniture. CORT's prices were already more than competitive, but Dee was willing to meet my out-the-door price (which was reasonably close to her offer) to get my business. The staff helped me load the furniture into my pickup, and I went away a happy customer. I plan on coming back soon for a bookshelf and some other office equipment. Please consider giving your custom to CORT (there are several around the DMV area too) before you blow a month or two's salary on an expensive (but not necessarily high-quality) new furniture set or scour the local Craigslist for heavily used stuff. Come with your own truck or be ready to hire their on-call contractor to move it for you for about 100-150 bucks. The people are nice, the deals are even nicer, and this furniture needs a home.

It's very high quality and feels solid. My kids love it. Delivery was fast, and assembly was pretty easy. During the ordering process, I had a question and called the contact number. A man answered and thoroughly and kindly answered my questions. I even accidentally called his number again, and he saw my number pop up and called me back in case I had additional questions! That's good service, especially when I didn't leave a message. The delivery person was great as well- very nice, and wheeled the bunk bed pallet up the driveway to the inside of my garage. After visiting several furniture stores (Ashley's, Jordan's, etc.) to look for furniture for both of our kids' rooms, my wife and I realized that almost everything was cheap fiber board or flimsy furniture. Too often, the stuff we found in a showroom was actually pretty cheap when we looked into the details (opened the drawers, picked up a corner to look underneath, lifted the mattress, examined the hardware fittings, etc). We are a military family, so our furniture needs to last through moves every 2-3 years. We also wanted something that our kids (3 and 6) would not outgrow within a few years. We googled "solid wood furniture," and after reading some reviews (for both Kids Furniture Solutions and some other sites) decided to give KFS a try, mainly because we liked the design of the furniture options. Since I had a question about one of the sales, I called the number listed on the website. The number went through to a voicemail box, asking me to leave a message. Although usually this is a bad sign, I left a message anyway asking for some more details, not really expecting a call back. However, within about 30 minutes, I received a call back from Andrew, who cheerfully answered all of my questions. He had in-depth knowledge of how the beds were put together, and was able to really make me feel good about buying the product. A few hours later, I placed my order. Unfortunately, I immediately realized that I had mistyped my phone number on the delivery form, so I texted Andrew, asking if he could help. He immediately texted back that he was able to fix the error, and he also noticed that I had not added dresser mirrors to my order. Since I had mentioned dressers with mirrors on the phone with him, this was a great catch on his part. He helped me adjust the order, then even reached out again to confirm that it was all set and ready to go. He has also promised to reach out next week when the order is processed for delivery, just to make sure everything goes smoothly. Wow! Needless to say (but I'll say it anyway!), this is customer service and attention to detail far above anything I could have expected. Well isn't this place a little gem! So I headed over to my friend Yelp and found That Mattress Place. It had pretty awesome reviews, so I figured what the heck, let's check it out. I was immediately greeted and after telling the gentlemen what I was looking for, he put me through a rigorous selection process to find just the right mattress...he had me roll around on several mattresses to test them out. It was actually a lot of fun. The mattresses are all lined up against the wall with no space in between, so I just rolled down the whole line..ladies be sure to wear pants! LOL. Anyway, though it seemed like a lot of fun and games, he was able to accurately pinpoint the type of mattress I desired, firm with a touch of soft and plush. I tested a couple others and was able to pick my mattress within 15 minutes of arriving! After selection, on to payment discussions and delivery (he said he could deliver that afternoon but I was heading to a couple other spots after, so I wasn't available. But same day delivery was awesome!) Delivery is $60 which is the typical amount but my mattress was about $400 cheaper than what I saw on other websites. *WINNING!* From the moment I stepped into the store, the customer service was excellent, the prices were fabulous and overall I am very pleased. Can't wait to get my new mattress today! Oh and I found out that this place is 100% referral. The gentlemen asked how I heard about the store and I told him Yelp. He said that they don't have commercials (which is true, I've never heard of this place), no ads, just referrals and reviews! So if you go, be sure to tell a friend or leave a review.

I stopped at nearly every store and finally settled on That Furniture Place. It's in a tiny strip mall. They had a girl in a skimpy pink outfit standing on a mattress on the roof of an SUV waiving at traffic this afternoon. I know, I know...stay with me now. The owner of this shop used to work at one of the reputable furniture shops on the same street and he opened his own place. He knows where to buy quality mattresses without all the brand names that hike up the price. He has been doing well and recently expanded to the space next door so he can sell more furniture. The store is super simple- nothing fancy about it, no paint, no decorations, nothing. And I'll take that any day if that means I pay less for a great mattress. I paid for delivery with a private guy he recommended and they are okay but were running a little late when they brought my mattress over.
