The sales staff at Ikea is friendly, however, the manager, Jeff, was as mean as he could be about a defective item which cost hundreds of dollars, was extremely heavy and large to lug back and fourth and caused several trips and aggravation. Nothing was resolved. The showrooms at Ikea are gorgeous but most of the stuff is junk. I have nothing against junk if it works, but some of the stuff does not fit together properly and you may be stuck with a defective product. After hours and hours of putting the thing together, how would you feel about taking it all apart and carrying it that weight back to the vehicle to return it to the store without so much as an apology for the trouble. They say they care a lot for the environment, but if they don't care for the trouble they cause the customer, their love of the environment is not too comforting. read more

I got the wrong color for a coffee table I ordered, even though I clicked the correct link. When I got the confirmation e-mail from "do not reply" @ IKEA, I saw then that it was the wrong color. I could not get through on phone to correct the order because their lines were busy and the online chat did not respond. I transferred most of the funds out of my online shopping account, hoping to stop the order long enough for someone to contact me. There was no activity on the account so I thought I was OK but a week later I saw a negative balance on that account. Apparently IKEA had already authorized the purchase, according to my credit union. I tried calling IKEA again, waited a long time, then got the right department to start the change of the order but the person on the phone said he could not do that and was going to have another person call me back. Never got the call back. Got e-mail saying item shipped, then delivered; all without talking to me directly. Because it's too much hassle and cost to return the item, it will be kept but painted over. After this experience, I recommend don't order online from IKEA. read more

I actually like the store somewhat. Staff however can be hit or miss. I had one or two not so pleasant staff encounters. One day a lighting specialist just didn't want to be bothered. She was short with me and kept walking away. She showed poor knowledge of the department. The last time she walked away, I noticed her gossiping about me with another staff. I didn't waste my time trying to figure out what she was saying because I was really in a hurry. I found another specialist and she exceeded my expectation. She had impressive product knowledge and helped me make the right selection. I wish other staff could be consistent like her. read more

Doesn't matter what the product quality or selection if the customer is treated like the enemy. Shopping at IKEA this afternoon with a family group including an infant, a very pregnant mom, and a cancer patient. For those not familiar with IKEA's layout, it is similar to the major hotels on the strip in Las Vegas, to get to the elevators you have to wind your way through various gaming sections. They want you to have to browse before you get to your destination, whether if be hotel elevator, or IKEA checkout. So, after the first floor of wandering through the maze to get to the customer self serve area for boxed items, we were told that the only place we could view the actual item was on the second floor. Wrap back around, stand in line for 6 trips of the elevator waiting our turn (elevator was too small and slow), decided on our item and started to head back. Took elevator back down and was deposited just yards from the check out, but there was a gate that needed an employee to open it. Wait for one to open it, I walked out, she slammed the gate on us stated that we had to walk the "half mile" wrapping through the store and couldn't approach the checkout because we had unpaid merchandise! No amount of pleading changed her mind. So our party spent 10 minutes winding through the store! I was livid and spoke to the manager. She was apologetic and stated that the employee should have used discretion. Not good enough! The store policy remains and in effect states that they believe the customers are going to steal and it's not worth spending their money to prevent it in a customer-friendly way, so lock the customer behind gates like cattle to prevent it! I don't know how they get away with such a design and approach. Don't know why people tolerate it. Don't know how it can meet ADA standards. So I bought my selections but hate that I did and feel abused. IKEA destroyed their brand with me! read more

Visited store and bough the whole kitchen. After spending half a day there and coming back just home to realize that they gave me completely wrong order. Spend 30min on the phone to get customer service and had to give them info on every item I had in my possession. After that I was told that someone will contact me from IKEA store in Baltimore. Sure enough soon got a call from Amy who is a Post Sales Manager. What a great employee asset she is. Couple employees like that and there will be no customers left at IKEA. No apologies. She just told me that my order is still in the store and I should get everything over and exchange. The whole truck full of wrong stuff, which is very heavy. After I tried to explain that my time is also valuable and I no longer have rented truck, I was told that I signed for the received merchandise. So it is basically my fault. I said that I assume that employees that pulled my order are professional and not invalids and signing takes place before you even touch your ordered items. She told me that she does not appreciate my tone and hanged up the phone on me. Very professional manager who really cares about me - a stupid customer. Keep that in mind next time you decide to visit Baltimore store and get lots of items pulled for you. It will be your fault if you did not check every box and all items. Your time and money will not be counted for anything. And by the way, calls to customer service literally can take close to an hour. Good luck to you! read more

Be careful if you order something at the store. We ordered a butcherblock countertop and we waited forever to get it. We called when it was supposed to be in and they said it was in. Went to pick it up and they couldn't find it. This happened three (3) times. We were finally fed up and they agreed to deliver it to our house, no charge. But, even that took some pleading. The counter top took more than six weeks to get. This all started at the College Park, MD store. read more

Three stars because we once ate an anniversary dinner at the upstairs cafeteria here. Seriously. It was a great memory. And our Wyman Park apartment was a telling symbol of IKEA's conquest of the greater Baltimore home decorating and renovation scene. Now I realize that our so-called Euro-style, Bauhaus-inspired showcase was a shrine to a tree-felling, cheap labor driven, global corporate culture run amok. Walter Gropius, if only you knew! Better that you did not see what came of your vision of style and functionality for the masses. And why did you have to be so clever, Mr. Kamprad? What would the farmers in your family tree have said when precious Maryland meadows, fields, and wetlands were razed to make way for the blue-and-yellow behemoth that now sits where ducks and geese used to play? If only the furniture store were to go away, and then all that would remain would be the cafeteria, the lingonberries, and the little Swedish meatballs of my dreams. This rating reflects IKEA delivery and customer services. I ordered a bunch of furniture from Ikea. When delivery truck arrived I asked about the bed and matress. I was told these items were somewhere in the back of the truck. When my order was unloaded the bed and matress were not seen anywhere and the delivery guys had no clue where to find them. I tried to call 888 number. OMG ! Waiting time 104 minutes !!! Is this acceptable. Well, even if you spend the entire day on the phone NO ONE will answer your call. IKEA does not have human oriented customer service. I called their office number and got a receptionist who tried to connect me with someone who could help. When I asked if the rep could give me the status of my order, his response was "maybe" ??? I was shocked. Never ever did I hear such a response from customer service. I asked for a manager. His name was Chuck. He first hung up because he said he could not hear me. I called back and started telling him about my issues. he seemed to be willing to help. Tried to schedule another delivery for Monday next week, promised to give me compensation for my troubles. Delivery did not take place as he promised. I tried to call him back at 410-931-5400 (the number he called me from). Of course, my call could not be competed as dialed. IKEA customer service is NON-EXISTENT. I tried to return a top to a pot that did not fit. They told me that they wouldn't take it back because I did not keep the plastic wrap that it came in and I did not have a receipt. Do not get a delivery from IKEA. I was told my delivery would be from "2-6" then from "6-8". They showed up at 9pm in the dark. They couldn't even see to unload the truck. Because it was so late, they were rushing and banged the garage door - hopefully it was OK, but I couldn't see anything either. I contacted IKEA and said I was unhappy with my delivery and wanted my money back. They refused. read more

As far as Ikeas go this one is great. Easy to get to, and easy parking. Never very crowed (I go on weeknights). I almost never go upstairs to look at the displays and stick with down stairs to stock up on basics like, party supplies( wine glasses, small plates), storage solutions, throw rugs and kitchen items, and candles. I mean it its IKEA not much more to say except it's worth it to take 2 minutes and become a "family member" (its free) you get free coffee and tea in the café and special deals that change month to month. read more

Like any other ikea the baltimore ikea is also great. Everything in ikea is dirt cheap. I recently moved to baltimore so bought a lot of furniture from here. you can even select what you want and for $ 60.00 they will deliver to your home. Great for students and people who move often. I woudnt mind throwing away a 9 $ side table a 40 $ dining table or a 20 $ coffe table when i move. Dont buy the Mattresses !!! they are god awful ! rest is good...... read more

Worst experience EVER! Delivery company came at the wrong time. It was impossible to get any help from customer service. Left on hold for ONE HOUR! I never got a call returned. I ended up having to pay another company to pick up my furniture because dealing with Ikea was useless. It will be a cold day in hell before I ever shop at this place again! read more

Resent online purchase from IKEA and the horrors of getting items delivered. I recently order a wardrobe from IKEA Baltimore, I ordered the unit on Jan 30 2018 and set a delivery date of 2.17.2018. the online ordering tool is very confusing and is not intuitive at all. but with that being said, I was able to complete an order and set a delivery of the product. 2.17.2018. Delivery company for IKEA calls at about 11 am and tells us the truck broke down they will need to reschedule. no issue, except that I had someone moving into a room on 2.18.2018 and this wardrobe needed to be finished. Truck arrives on 2.18.2018 at around 11 am and the driver drops off the many pieces and parts, the count is correct, but was incorrect because they counted one part as 2 pcs. the driver failed to notice 1/2 of the wardrobe was missing. when we started to assemble the unit, we discovered this issue. tried to call IKEA, but apparently they have no one answering the customer service # after 12 noon on Sunday. and the answer is "where sorry your call cannot be completed at this time please hang up and try your call again later Thank you". Since I have not been able to talk to anyone at IKEA USA I have no idea what they are going to do to help fix this situation. About the poorest customer service experience ever. I may change this review and that will depend on how IKEA responds. read more
