Love the product. However, I rarely write reviews and today left enough of a sour taste in my mouth to write this one. I've been to a few different IKEA locations after having moved across the US a few times. Having said that, the customer service at this location was very poor on 2/27/2018. From start to finish, no one could be bothered to assist guests. And when approached for help, they would pawn us (customers) off to each other like it was a chore and they would rather complain about their life at home instead of doing their job. One even asked me to wait while he finished his conversation with a coworker about a party they had attended the weekend before... right in front of me. Not my cup of tea, but that's personal preference; this was the furniture our daughter wanted so we marched on. The delivery service: What I found unacceptable was the delivery service I paid a pretty penny for which was set for the first available delivery window the next day, between 10 am and 2 pm. Those were the terms agreed upon by us, the customers, and IKEA, the service provider. Given we were from out of town and moving our middle daughter to Yale campus, it was important to us to stick to this schedule given the furniture assembly time we had factored in after delivery. The delivery guys didn't show up until 3 pm and were not apologetic for their delay nor were they courteous. I have zero tolerance for people's lack of respect for others' time. Note that this is a review of the cafe. Vegetarian meatballs (juicy! Not dried out) with a side of veggies, rice and couscous. Swedish meatballs accompanied by a mountain of mashed potatoes, a generous helping cranberry sauce and again vegetables. All served on real china. The first meal cost me less than 4.50. And it was healthy and filling! The second selection less than 6. Better and less expensive than many of quick service (or "fast casual" if you will) joints around Yale's campus. A comfortable dining area with reliable and free coffee to boot (join the free rewards program!) Where else can you score a salon wrap for $3? Come to settle in with a book or get some work done on your laptop. Come to enjoy a meal with your family. Come alone. The IKEA cafe is the great equalizer of or time. I just bought a new house and have decided to purchase my furniture from IKEA. I like the furniture I picked out but unfortunately I have to travel all the way there and go to the cash register to order my furniture. I feel like IKEA loses out on a lot of sales because they do not support ordering online. They also only schedule deliveries strictly on Tuesdays. It just seems silly and a waste of time in my opinion. Had I known this I would have went elsewhere to get my furniture as now I am driving an hour and a half for a third time to make changes to my IKEA order. However I've decided to stick with them because looking for furniture is exhausting to me. After this purchase I won't be going back to IKEA for any future orders. I've also bought furniture from Bob's furniture and they are very flexible and have online ordering. They also send updates which is helpful. When I went I also went to the food counter with my mom to get some lunch. My mom asked the person working there if a dish she was interested in purchasing had nuts as she is allergic and he shrugged and gave her this huge binder and told her to look it up. It was very crowded and fast paced at that point in the day and she couldn't find it in the book and was having a hard time holding her plate and she also had a broken leg at the time LOL. She couldn't put the food back since there were a bunch of people behind us so we bought it anyway and prayed that it was okay for her to eat. Two years ago a friend of mine had a threesome with two dudes from Stockholm. Ironically, after my visit to IKEA last month, I seem to be the one more recently fucked by the Swedes. Picture me: willowy and blonde, sucking down an elderflower juice (flower juice!!!) and critically wandering the aisles of this mega-store. I am repressing my inner hoarder and carefully selecting the inexpensive goods which I will purchase for my lovely home. I consider patterns and design, ease of assembly and aesthetics before finally purchasing a iron (metal) bed for under two hundred dollars. My husband reminds me to pay careful attention to all the accoutrements needed to put the damned thing together (my grandmother does jigsaw puzzles with less pieces than this effing bed!) and we think we have it all together. Until of course, we get home and realize we're missing a massively major part of the thing. Ordinarily I would've insisted we drive the hour and change back there and fetch the orphan piece, but half assembled it became clear that it wasn't going to work it our space and it actually looked bloody awful. IKEA is the sort of place that lulls you into a false sense of value and then slaps you across the face with its dainty gloves. It lowers your guard with its delicious meatballs and then takes out your pride with its Lilliputian tools and graphic novel-like instruction manuals. I used to love going to Ikea in Paramus, NJ, because: 1. It was new and very spanky clean 2. They had this dinner special where all your kids and family could eat for ten bucks. I would bring along my kids' friends and we'd all be satisfied and full, for so little money. 3. They had this play area in the dining area where my husband and I could eat in peace while the kids played right in front of you. But here, at the NH Ikea, I was sorrily disappointed. Although all Ikea seems to organize in a similar way, this place was somewhat less organized, and definitely less clean. I also didn't like that most of the check outs were self service lanes (At least the last time I went). And what is up with how they make you go all the way around the whole building just to buy one small item? Ikea does not have quality furniture but I do like their pricing, and the way they help you get organized. I love their plastic boxes and containers. Oh! And one more complaint: I wish I didn't have to pay for their wonderfully made paper bags. They are so great to use as garbage bags, but not for 5 cents each. read more

Had a very nice experience at this IKEA last weekend. The food was very good and a great price. Can't offer 5 stars, because the stock was a little low on some of the plants and sheets and lines were long, but we're used to that from IKEA. The highlight of our trip this time around was the excellent customer service that we received from Demary in the furniture stock area. There was a set of sheets that we had our heart set on and they were out of stock in the size we needed for our bed. Even though it was an item that fell out of his "jurisdiction", he still went out of his way to help us find what we were looking for. Once he figured out there was inventory still in the store in a secondary location, he called up to the right department to ensure they were there (and save us a trip in case they weren't) then held our cart for us so we didn't have to trek it back through the store, and even showed us a short cut on how to get to where we had to go so that we didn't have to go back through the IKEA maze. He really went above and beyond in every way and was so friendly all the while. Thanks, Demary! Your willingness to go above and beyond is very much appreciated from these "sheet lovers"! Here's hoping that the management team takes notice of your hardwork and excellent customer service and you get some well deserved accolades! IKEA is a terrific place to spend an afternoon! I love to go to the kitchen section where I can find IKEA's version of Tupperware for substantially less, plus a variety of gadgets and gizmos (the ice cube trays and the plastic bag holders are my personal favorites!) Over the years, I have purchased framed posters, bed sheets, computer desks, organizers for my laundry room, lots is cool stuff for my kitchen...the list goes on and on. I am SO not ashamed to give IKEA five stars. It could very well be one of those situations where you sort of don't know what you got 'til it's gone. See, when I lived in Portland, I liked IKEA, but I didn't really need it. When I moved to Albany, I really kind of needed an IKEA. Because there wasn't one nearby, I ended up buying the majority of my furniture through an Axis of Evil, which included Walmart.com. Yes, it's true. My apartment was still missing...something. Maybe a flip-chair? Or a coffee table? Or a stand-up coat hanger? I tried locally first, but to no avail. It was near impossible to find these things online, too. Go to Ikea.com. IF they sell it online, the shipping is ridiculously expensive. So what do I do? Pack up my friend and drive 2.5 hours to New Haven, of course! We were both pretty much like kids in a candy shop. Not only did I get a WICKED deal on a sofa bed (and now my friends have (a) a place to sleep if they want to spend the night, and (b) a place to sit that's not the floor), but I also picked up a coffee table, lamp, stand-up coat hanger, lots of kitchen gadgets, pillows, and hangers for less than a love seat would cost in the real world. I'm not quite sure how I did it. Also, I have to note that New Haven-ers seem to be a completely different breed than Albanians. It must have been pretty comical to watch my friend and I try to stuff all that stuff into her little Ford Focus, but some random guy came over and offered his assistance. It was so nice! Let me first say that I absolutely love shopping at IKEA. The idea behind the arrow guided layout makes it very fun and I enjoy seeing all the displays. I was also very impressed with the prices, I understand this isn't high end stuff but sometimes we don't need high end. I realize that would usually warrant a higher rating but while we were giving the girls some dinner in the cafeteria a mouse ran across the floor and under a table. I went and let the girl at the register know about the mouse and she acted as if that was a completely normal thing. Mice are dirty and disease ridden and having them around food should be treated with a serious attitude. We did love the baby care bathrooms. They come fully equip with emergency diapers, changing table liners, and little toys to keep the kids busy while baby gets changed. We especially enjoyed the toy section. The little castle tents and the play house were favorites of ours! We had a great time tonight, I just wish the mouse hadn't have happened because I wanted to give a higher rating. IKEA is an experience. Possibly even an adventure. How many stores can you think of that will hand you a map on the way in? The upper level winds through a labyrinth of furniture settings - kitchen, bath, bedroom, and so on. It's not laid out in rows and aisles, like most department stores. There's a single main walkway to follow (with a couple shortcuts), so if you have something specific to look at, the map will help you get there. After you've looked at all the other stuff, of course. The same layout applies on the lower level, where you find all the small items: kitchen ware, lamps, organizers, linens, and plants. In the middle, you'll find the cafeteria style restaurant. YUM. Emily C. is right. EAT ALL THE MEATBALLS. And at the end, you'll find the Swedish goodies. More yum. You'll also walk through the cavernous warehouse. When I bought bedroom furniture here some years ago, I found that I should have brought help, because I had to pull all the pieces from the shelves and roll them away. I'm sure somebody got a good laugh at me with my three carts. I did, I know. Mercifully, you can get delivery services - but you've got to get the carts to the delivery office. Ay yi yi. IKEA stresses design, and for sure they've got a sense of it. It's sometimes quirky, sometimes sleek. I've usually found something I like. And, being someone who likes to build things, there's the assembly waiting at home. Don't rely on the included tool. Trust me. But more than anything else, IKEA reminds me of Joseph Campbell's account of the classic coming-of-age myth, which you'll find at the root of plenty of classic stories and films, including the Star Wars saga. This being my first time going to Ikea I had no idea what to expect. We got there early on a Saturday morning and found parking spaces somewhat close. You walk in, go up an escalator right into a huge high school like cafeteria. We decided to eat after seeing the crazy cheap prices for breakfast. They are cheap before you start adding beverages into the mix. We sat and ate in the modernly decorated cafeteria in which you serve and clean up after yourself. Then we started to shop, following the marked arrow on the floor the whole time. Super ultra modern styles with possibilities leaving your head spinning surprised us around every corner. You'd better come with a plan or you'll leave without any furniture like we did. It was like overload. The prices. The style. Were to begin. After you go through the serve yourself warehouse part is the checkout which has the look and feel of going through customs at an airport. The lines were few and long, but more opened up quick. You have to bag and wrap your own breakables yourself. I didn't see any bags or baggers. On the other side of the registers is like a cafe type seating area to get lunch or buy Swedish foods to take home. Overall, it was quite an experience. I'm sure to go back, but next time more prepared. The quality of some items look cheap and I seen a lot of things with made in china stickers on them. It sounds terrible on the surface, but think about it - that coffee table would have cost you five fold at a real furniture store! That dresser... sure, it's all warped and wobbly, but you didn't REALLY want to move it to the bedroom of your new starter home, did you? It's perfect for first apartments and college dorms, and that's pretty much it. As far as I'm concerned, the more expensive, "high quality" items are for show, because at that price point you might as well go to Bassett, Ethan Allen, Raymour & Flanigan, etc... As long as your expectations are fair, the prices are quite good Just one big thing about Ikea to keep in mind... there is NO help here. If I could I would give this a negative star... or two. I purchased an item that it not work, and went back to Ikea to return it in New Haven, CT. It has been 2 weeks, and has not shown up on my account as a refund. I've call the 888-888-4532 and was told "all circuits are busy, please call back".. and was disconnected. I called the main store in New Haven 203-865-4532, and found out you can not speak to a person in customer service, there isn't an option for this. When someone did pick up, they only transferred me to the main number again... and it just kept ringing. Then proceeded to call the customer service number 800-434-4532 from their website. Got transferred to the New Haven, CT store and got a recording "please call back during regular business hours between 10:00a, and 9:00pm.. EST. It is 5:00pm EST. Well, the bed that I purchased is finally assembled. But now I'm kicking myself and wondering why I didn't heed the other reviews on here. When we opened one of the boxes, we noticed right away that one of the pieces (the slats for the headboard) has a long, deep crack in it, split right where one of the screws needed to go. Apparently, the idiot manufacturing this thing decided to sell the piece instead of putting it in damages. Lovely. Needless to say, I was pretty pissed off. Tried calling Ikea New Haven, had to go through a bunch of automated menus, only to sit on the phone for half an hour, listening to it ring and ring before realizing no one would pick up the phone to help me. My mother managed to get a hold of them (she found another number online) and they told her all we needed to do was return the damaged piece to the store. Since I had to go to work, my dad did that for me. He said they replaced it without complaint and even reimbursed him for gas money. At least there was that. BUT... Almost two hours later, while assembling the bed frame, he found out he was missing a piece. Called them up again; turns out, that piece is was SOLD SEPARATELY from the entire piece and NO ONE bothered to tell him that the FIRST time he went back to the store. So, he had to go back YET AGAIN to get the missing piece. By some miracle, they reimbursed him for gas money again and gave him the part for free. (Edit: the "miracle" was him...well...kinda losing it and yelling at the rather indifferent customer service guy...but could you really blame him?) By the time I returned home at almost 11 PM, my bed was all put together. However, I felt terrible for all the aggravation my poor dad had to go through. I guess this is what I deserve for trying to go the cheaper route with furniture. read more

It may have a short name but summing up the experience cannot be done in short time. (just like the shopping here) This is long so skip to the end for the quick summary! I suggest doing your research online and scoping out products that your looking for AND that YOUR able to build. Walking through the maze upstairs will certainly drive you crazy as you go through the showroom experience and attempt to write down where to find the products in the warehouse space. (just take a pic with your cell phone) If you already know what your doing and know where to go then you'll still be annoyed by trying to find the short cuts to get through faster however the slow "march" of customers milling about gawking at everything will only slow you down again. That is only about a quarter of the battle, but if your tired already get some free coffee, tea or water and move on (i have eaten here as my stomach doesn't trust 50 cent hot dogs) Once you get to the warehouse and finally see the size of the box you must lug home is when your journey takes a turn to being the iconic IKEA shopper.....you have now left the mystical world of preassembled furniture and staged apartments that make you believe yours will look that awesome as well! Enter fantasy labor camp... You stare down the 80 plus pound box of wood, bolts and those finger wrecnhing allen wrenches and say this will fit in my smart car! Wrong! so you go home to get a larger car and come back the next day.... you find yourself pushing the cart into line with your lovely boards to be assembled then you wait and push it to your car....trying to get it in the trunk then lower the seats then move front seats up then slam the trunk! VICTORY! NO... After carrying these boxes into your home you must build it because IKEA wants to save you money! Generally, the simple stuff (SQUARE stuff) is easy to do and requires little effort, the instructions dont EVER have writting so you must play the game and look at them like a treasure map to figure out some steps. I recommend knowing how to use tools and some general wood shop knowledge helps. The cheapest stuff is not real wood and can be weak and need extra maintenace after some use. I wouldnt buy everything from here but entertainment stands are a good bargain, bedroom furniture has been good and kitchen stuff has been a space saver! If all else fails just move into IKEA I'm sure you could rent out an apartment there and get on a meal plan of meatballs and overload chocolate cake! read more

Visiting IKEA is an all-day event for me. Notice I said "visiting" and not merely "shopping"? Totally intentional, because IKEA is sooo much more than a store...it has been my happy place getaway for over two decades! It furnished my after-college-but-still-broke apartment with stylish and affordable decor, then seemed to effortlessly mature with me through the next stages of life. Anytime I was ready for an upgrade in quality, so was IKEA. When my taste changed, IKEA's lines seemed to morph on demand as if the whole thing had been orchestrated rather than coincidentally organic. From Billy to Besta to Bjursta to Stockholm, they've all had a home with me at one time or another. Shall I go on? Nyvoll, Malung, Henriksdal, Malm, Brimnes, Lack, Bekval, Skruvsta, Poang, Grundtal, Ektorp,Tullsta, Pax and on and on and on goes the language of IKEA that has now indelibly infiltrated my vocabulary. The New Haven store is about an hour and a half pilgrimage from my home in western Massachusetts. The driving time is part of what makes it an all day trip for me, but it's also because it's a super fun place designed to make me want to linger. Incidentally, the Stoughton, MA location is about the same distance but I consider New Haven "my" IKEA. I prefer the layout, feel and general vibe of the New Haven store. I ALWAYS go with a list, and I always veer off-list with impulse purchases :) Heads up that you can use the website to check store inventory levels on the items you're planning to buy, and even get the warehouse aisle/bin locations to make your list that much more helpful. The store consists of a lower level and an upper level. You enter on the lower level and there are bathrooms straight ahead (bonus after a long drive), along with a private parent room that has a lounge area (suitable for nursing, relaxing, whatever) and an attached bathroom with changing table. To the left is Smaland, the awesome playspace where you can LEAVE YOUR KIDS while you shop. Sign them in, and off you go! Note that they must be potty trained to use Smaland. Ours are not, so we have not yet been able to take advantage of this, but I can't resist peeking in while passing by and I'm totally counting the days...SIGH... To the right of the entrance there is a snack bar (super cheap hot dogs, froyo, drinks, cinnamon rolls etc. -- we hit this on our way out) with seating area, the Swedish food shop, customer service desk is at the far end. There is also a wall of checkout registers, beyond which is the self-pick warehouse, the as-is area, and self-serve "smaller things" departments such as pictures/frames/lighting/plants/kitchenwares/bathroom accessories/office accessories/rugs/textiles etc etc etc. Basically anything that's not flat-packed in the warehouse will be found on the lower level. The upper level is the main furniture showroom, along with kitchen design and planning, toys/kids stuff, and the cafeteria-style restaurant. Both levels are designed to keep you following a path that snakes through every department. There are some shortcuts, so if you're weary or in a rush, keep an eye out for them or ask an Ikean. But in general (and by design) it's not the kind of store where you can easily go on a mission to, say, buy a lamp and simply bee-line for the lighting department; you're going to wind and twist your way there past all kinds of pretties and be lured by all kinds of smells. Because MEATBALLS. Upon entering, you have a couple of choices. There are big yellow reusable shopping bags that you can grab near the entrance or at various places throughout the store if you're just planning to get smallish things, then you return them at the register when you checkout (they also have wheeled metal caddies to hold the bags so you don't have to carry them). Or you can take a shopping cart, also located near the entrance. Note that if you take a cart, you'll need to use the elevator to navigate between levels rather than the stairs or escalators. We always get carts so that we can sit toddlers in them :) My little sister is my regular Ikea buddy, and this is our pattern: pray that the kids nap in the car on the way. Arrive, park, enter, hit the parent lounge for bathroom/diaper change/nurse, grab shopping carts, head upstairs on the elevator, hit the children's section which is where the elevator dumps you out, have lunch in the cafeteria (it's cheap and good!), walk the showroom, take the elevator back downstairs, walk the lower level shopping area, get anything we might need from the warehouse, hit the as-is section, check out, collapse in the snack bar area near the exit and take turns getting snacks (hot dogs, drinks, froyo for the kids), pick up our favorite things from the Swedish food market, visit the bathrooms one last time, then head to the car. It's a long, fun, exhausting yet inspiring day. I go home with my head full of ideas, my want list expanded, and visions for my next visit already beginning to take shape. read more

I love this place. Really, I do. Every visit I end up buying something I hadn't planned on. The latest was glassware, we bought a set of their standard drinking glasses. And they are phenomenal. And at $6 for 4 glasses(or the opposite, I don't remember), it's hard to argue with the value. The second best part is the cafe on the way out of the building. While the food in the cafe on the second level isn't bad, and my family dines there occasionally, the bar on the way out the door is the best part. Note that in the upstairs cafe, they've recently added a TV and kids area.....WHY? This has turned out to be more nefarious then an added bonus for our family. But I digress. The frozen yogurt cone for $1 is crazy and add to that 2 hot dogs, a bag of chips and soda for $2.50 and you've got a quick lunch for super cheap. read more

Ikea stores do not accept phone calls. If you are looking for stock, you have to call the national number and sit on hold for 30-45 minutes, only to have them tell you that the item you want is being delivered sometime on Sunday. It might be there if you go on Sunday, but they can't be sure, it might not be. The best thing to do would be to call back on Sunday, sit on hold for another 45 minutes and see if it was delivered, or drive there and find out. I have always liked Ikea for odds and ends, cheap kitchen utensils, and furniture that always seems to fit in the spot that nothing else fits in, but after this disaster, I will be rethinking our decision to buy countertops, sinks, etc. So far it has been nothing but a nightmare. read more

Four words - I don't get it. I just took my first trip to Ikea (about 40 miles from home) tonight hoping to find a new desk for the home office. The lady warned me that when she visited the store in PA it was all junk, but I figured so many rabid fans of the place can't be entirely wrong. Nope - wall to wall, particle board garbage. I have nothing against particle board (I'm shopping on a budget, after all), just that I don't need to drive so far out of my way for such a meager selection. The creepy little rooms you're forced to walk through made me feel like a home invader on a college campus. The slack-jawed, robot-like patrons wandering around and bumping into me every few feet further added to the "charm". After approximately 65 miles of following the arrows on the floor I determined the 3 or 4 desks we had passed were going to be it... although it's possible I missed the perfect desk mixed into the non-department, disorganized maze somewhere. When we finally finished our adventure though the dimly, fluorescent-lit, downstairs dungeon area I was amazed to see lines nearly as long as our entire walk waiting to be ripped off for that perfect wicker hamper or ugly rug. Oh - and it was almost impossible to leave since any registers that were not open had gates warning of alarms sounding if you went through them. How dare we not purchase something!?! Get in line with the other drones! I give it 2 stars because some of the decorations and kitchen stuff looked okay, I guess. read more

This IKEA in New Haven is awesome. I've been here multiple times with my friends... have to admit, sometimes here just for meals or out of sheer boredom. The employees look earth-shatteringly bored, but that may be psychological damage from the yellow and blue tones and bright lights everywhere. It's difficult to find your way around, but it doesn't matter when there is never a crowd and there are plenty of showrooms to lark around in. Best, I have a friend who ditched some acquaintances in the kitchen section when they were being irritating and drove off in his car. It took them an hour to figure out he was gone! Amazing fun. Got to love IKEA. And those cheap bookshelves... what a deal! read more

So my bf (CORRECTION... EX bf) and I went to Ikea to get some picture frames and stuff to add some extra character to his condo. When we showed up we learned they where having some "eat free" event. Basically you pay for the food you buy, and then they take that amount off your total ikea purchase! Yeah, we spent thirty bucks on food... and got it off our $200 furnishings purchase! I love the frames we got, the rug on the other hand is kinda falling apart... we might exchange it. Its only been a week! Blah! So glad we went, we got some awesome deals and got some good ideas for his condo... and we left full of Swedish Meetballs! Yum. read more

This Ikea is very good. It's usually much neater and cleaner than the ones in New Jersey. At closing time on a Sunday, it has the same level of tidiness as the Paramus store on a quiet Tuesday morning. I have been impressed by the customer service here on each and every trip I've made over the past several years. That having been said, the selection is not as good as in some of the bigger stores. read more

IKEA is it for me. I'm sold out for IKEA. When I head into this store I'm prepared for an all day adventure. It's an adventure for adults and kids alike. It's strategic how they have a restaurant at the end of your tour. Where do I begin? Their prices are super affordable. I've purchased several of their bed frames. You basically do all of the work (order on their computer, get a cart, seek out the pieces including mattress if needed and put it together at home. It's not for everyone - if you're somewhat handy then putting together your own furniture would frustrate the heck out of you. The quality is good - I've never been disappointed. They portray their own style - a simple Swedish look with clean lines and edges. I've been checking out their sinks and bathroom fixtures. I'm attracted to their fair prices. I'll be back for some fixtures for my bathroom. When you come here plan on two things (1) be sure you have time (2) get ready to some money. read more

There is only one problem with Ikea. Whenever I go to an Ikea, I feel like moving - that way I can throw out everything I own and decorate a whole new place with more ikea furniture. I think I have a problem. I hope there's a support group. The New Haven Ikea is a great way to kill an afternoon when you need a muffin pan and you feel like spending a day dreaming about redocrating your living room. The furniture is superb, the showrooms (like all Ikea's) clean and presentable and the main stock room is actually quite well organized and easy to work through. However, this iKea is probably the smallest Ikea I have ever been in and thus, for reasons unknown, they don't have as many items as the stores in the NYC area. They also, for some reason, didn't have a pie pan. How hard is it to have a simple metal or glass pie pan? They had tart pans, muffin pans, baking sheets, custard dishes, etc etc. But no pie pan. As it turns out, in every room in my house, I have something major from IKEA. For starters, we have a set of 4 kitchen chairs that sit around our vintage kitchen table. Chairs get a lot of wear and tear and we went through, like, 3 sets of found-in-the-trash or thrift store chairs. Our IKEA chairs fit right in, they have been very sturdy, and generally do not make a fuss. The same thing could be said for the huge wardrobe in the bedroom. The previous sofa we had was actually used, AND from IKEA, making it the last word in thriftiness and it lasted 10 years in our possession. And we just got a large section of freestanding kitchen counter. There's a used IKEA bookshelf in the living room and an IKEA bookshelf that we found in the trash, in the office. Also, a number of frames and lamps. And a futon that has hosted many guests, some of them repeat visitors. OK, now it sounds like my house is an IKEA showplace. It's not. On the whole, most things come from yard sales and thrift stores. But it's a good place you need something of a specific size or purpose and can't wait to "find" it by other means. In our experience, the counter was the hardest to assemble. But when I called my local IKEA store, they were actually helpful and knowledgeable. The staff usually is. I'm dubious about the business model and the ethics of such a place, and their insane plans for expansion, and I hate, HATE their new slogan about "the most important place in the world" but I'm not actually dubious about the quality. But I would avoid any IKEA on earth on a weekend. read more
