To me, it's quite evident how IKEA has come to dominate the world with it's endless seas of home furniture, fixtures, and accessories... Inexpensive, simple, whatever you want - they have it. But in terms of long-lasting "grown-up" furniture - ehhh, only certain IKEA products would suffice. The particle wood and basic reinforcements in their furniture and fixtures probably wouldn't be a good bet for the long run. But for your college years, your kids, and being broke and on a budget - IKEA ftw. BUT there are some really decent quality things that I would purchase and continue to purchase from IKEA regardless of whatever stage in life I'm in - the shelving, glassware, lamps . . . things of that nature. I will say that the photoshoots in the IKEA catalogs are always stylized in such a professional way that it seems nearly unattainable in real life, but hah, like that' s a shocker! As you can imagine, this IKEA is massive and it's a bit of a light workout navigating through the labyrinth and a bit confusing at times - in spite of the overhead signs. Their little classification system is pretty easy to comprehend and the employees have always been helpful whenever I've solicited their help. IKEA food - I've never had it but some of it seems pretty darn affordable. The cafeteria options do seem far more attractive than the offerings of my childhood adventures at Luby's cafeteria, take that as you will. The dollar deals on corndogs, frozen yogurt and soft drinks are pretty great for a quick snack or to appease the kiddies. I find it crazy that for Houston being the 4th largest city in the U.S., this is one of the dinkiest stores I've been in. Love/Hate this place. Love that I get some good walking exercise/hate that you can't cut thru or go right to what you want. Love that it is inexpensive/ hate that it really is cheap merchandise not meant to last more than a few years - our disposable society. Stylish but flimsy. All the furniture is really low to the ground. I only buy cubes for organizing craft stuff. It is a good place for young couples, little kids furniture, college students. I saw no one and I mean no one on the floor to help with anything, it is a do it yourself place with people posted at the door to stop merchandise from walking out, and nice people posted at the self check out to keep you moving. The restaurant area is interesting and the food is a good value. Inexpensive, small portions but a bit healthier than normal American fare. Ie Salmon and peas with a vegetable cake(I am not really sure what it was) . Again, do it yourself cafeteria style and you bus your own table like in college. Enjoy. read more

Took time on my busy drive back this afternoon to stop in at IKEA, Katy, to look for a part for a sliding window track (found out it's discontinued) Not knowing where the part could be found, I asked an employee for assistance. Me: excuse me Employee: What! Me: stunned for a second, I reply, I'm sorry can you help me find this part (holding out my cell phone to show her a picture) Employee: No and walks off Ok. Walk through the entire store to find what I'm looking for. Maybe two employees on the floor, but they were busy. Walk back up front and ask a different employee for assistance. So the online purchase was made and delivery scheduled. The day before the delivery, the delivery window was scheduled (1-4 pm). At 3:55 pm robocall to extend delivery window to 6 pm. At 6:55 pm driver calls to say they will be there in 5 minutes, I explained I can be there at 8 pm, they say they can't wait. Here's the email they send a few days later: Thank you for choosing IKEA. Regrettably, it looks like we missed you when we attempted to make delivery. Please note, that if the delivery failure was due to a missed appointment, there may be a redelivery fee. Terrible experience and the worst customer service in the world. They deserve 0 stars. Made a purchase of several items including a mattress. It was too big to put in my car so arranged for everything to be delivered. I did not see the mattress on the shelf so I asked the info desk if they were sure it was in stock. They said yes but obviously it wasnt. I received an email later that day saying it was out of stock. I called them repeatedly to get them to understand that I did not need the delivery on the other items and wanted that charge reversed. I was going to have to pay this charge again ordering it online. You cant reach the store on the phone, when they tell you they are giving to a credit or going to get the store to call back it is a lie. The lied to me on every call about something. Now they mail me a gift card instead of putting it back on my credit card. I told them I have no use for them ever again and they if anyone of the people I spoke to told me it would be a gift card I would of waited and used the giftcard to buy the mattress online. They do NOT care about listening to the customer or filling reasonable requests. They will not escalate an issue to a supervisor. Customer service helped me cancel the order claiming items were not in stock, I sent a screen shot. They canceled the order. 2nd attempt, I again order + a few more things, got the transcript with the service agent telling me everything is in stock and should arrive 10/12/2021, later that SAME DAY I get an email saying there was a problem with my order and the delivery has been rescheduled for another month. Ikea is absolutely great for what it is. You cannot walk into the store and not be inspired to do or buy something. Even if you just take pictures of ideas and then go home and create your own with a do-it-yourself project, ikea is definitely the place to come. Now with that being said, we did buy quite a few items and then we went and bought a piece of furniture. We have been waiting for about 20 minutes now. This is after the 3-minute wait time on the screen has expired. so I'm not quite sure what the wait time on the screen is for, because like I said, that counted down to zero and it's been an additional 20 minutes, so I literally have no idea how long this will take. The restaurant is closed by the way. they do have the little snack bar up front in front of the checkout that has all kinds of little goodies but for the most part the restaurant and more importantly the swedish meatballs are not available. Again we are still waiting for the furniture we bought, which is kind of sad, because well, there's a lot of people here, and it could be a long time. That countdown to the zero is very misleading, I will also add that yes, I realize this is a swedish company, I get it. But, dang if you're not in America. put up signs in English too so people know what the heck these things are. I see some really cool items but they're not in stock and can't be found and you literally have no idea how to find it ever again. There's no pictures no names just items randomly placed in the store that are never to be found again. for instance we saw an under the counter track light that also had hooks with it. We wanted to buy it. But could absolutely not find this track light anywhere. And we could not find anyone to assist us either. part of me wants to ding their review for that but I won't right now. If we go much longer then I will reconsider that. So, it's now been 35 minutes since the countdown to zero. We have now gone up and asked about our order just to make sure that we did not somehow get forgotten. No apologies, just a we have no clue. We are actually considering going to the refund line now. After I made my purchase and made way toward the parking lot with my shopping cart filled with inexpensive goodies - I was stopped by cement guards. Apparently, you can't take the carts in the parking lot. "What am I supposed to do with my stuff? I don't have anyone with me," I told the loading station attendant. "Oh, I'll watch your stuff," he assured me. I immediately had little faith in him, but I also had no choice. And guess what? By the time I got back to the loading station, there my sat my cart ... solo, unattended. Ugh. This place is a bitter sweet type place. Yes, there is a lot of reasonably priced furniture options and decorating options, and yes, there are a lot of reasonably priced food options. Yes, they give you a different cultural spill on decor and culinary items. Yes, the store is kind of fun to walk around and view stuff. Yes, they play area for the little kids is a good idea for headache free shopping for a little while. Yet, some of the furniture you have to put together is just crazy! You have to study their instructions very carefully because they are written for people that has grown up in monocolor instruction reading! Plus, if you are height advanced or pounds advanced, then you may want to stay away from this place for furniture! This is for normal sized folks! If you are looking for cheap breakfast, lunch or dinner, there are plenty of options here to fill you up for a buck or more. There is a great variety of decor options to ensure you have something different in your house than the normal stores around your neighborhood. IKEA is a personal experience, and truly no review can do it justice...just don't forget to have someone with a truck and a strong back if you do buy something big. I want to start by saying I love IKEA and have bought many things over the years. I was so disappointed in my experience a week ago. My husband and I went to buy a glass cabinet and other small items. The cabinet was a full service item and we had to go to pick up area after paying and wait 10 minutes for them to bring the item out. As we were checking out, I walked to get us drinks and my husband was paying. I didn't notice until we got home that we paid full price for 2 tables (white side tables) that were on sale for $4.99. I only bought because of the sale price. We do not live in Houston so it's not exactly easy to go to return or get money back. Now for our pick up experience. I sat down and the screen said our order will be out in 12 minutes. I heard a woman raise her voice saying she had been waiting for an hour. I heard another group say they were there for almost an hour. The staff did not care and had attitudes towards the customers. After 45 minutes, I went up to an employee asking for an update. She said it said 100% picked and it will be next. Another 4 customers get their items that came after us. I went through another 10 minutes of attitude until one employee went to get the order. I was told "he" picked your order, but "he" keeps starting new orders and is not bringing yours out. Worse than a flea market, no service, pay for your bags and have to bag yourself. ---I came here when they first opened, then it was luxurious almost, nice, and an AWESOME experience and place to be... Walking in.... now it's like SAMS Club, you have to wait in a 10-30 minute line to sign up at a digital Kiosk for a membership card, then you have to find a shopping cart and spend 30 minutes figuring out how to put the bag inside a transformer cart, SO confusing. Then if you found a cart you take the elevator and wait in line for that, so it takes bout an hour just to get to the second floor if you havn't been in awhile. -- I remember long time ago, everything was clean, organized, very nice and there were staff everywhere to help yu figure out HOW you actully order things, and find a pencil and mark down on a piece of paper how to get your stuff at the end. That's not how it is any longer, it looks like a walmart on black Friday, the entire IKEA store is completely TRASHED. I saw NO STAFF my entire journey through IKEA. Kids running into you, parents not watching their children, stuff in every display/showroom throw on the floor, unorganized CHAOS. This place has gone downhill so fast. Then comes the very end, you have to figure out how to tally up your scorecard if you picked things out, I had to go to the front ask a lady how do I do this, then you go back, get a cart, go down the isle, find your product, no assistance to help unload HEAVY boxes onto my cart, I had about $500 worth of stuff I cancelled at the end because I was not about to wait an hour for a staff to come and help me unload all this stuff, that's when I got super upset about my experience. Oh and THEN, you see about 15-20 CHECK OUT LANES AND ONLY 4 OPEN!!!! THESE LINES WERE 50-60 PEOPLE LONG!!!!!! HOW DOES IKEA DO THIS TO DO US!!!! Once you finally arrive at the unpersonable check out lady who doesn't say where to put your items, or how to BAG YOUR stuff yourself, she asks for an IKEA card which you HAVE to have... then I say who bags my items? She looks at me and says YOU.... and the bags are 59cent a piece FOR A BAG?!?!!? This threw me way off, I have to bag my own items, PAY for my own BAG, and still be upset I couldn't find someone to help me get down heavy boxes.... wow... I still regret purchasing anything from this Swedish IKEA.... I was asking myself what happened to good old American QUALITY SERVICE. The prices didn't even justify self check out, self paid bags, self FIGURING Everything out by yourself. If you need to pick anything up god luck the 888 phone number they give on your delivery order will never be answered I was told this by the customer service rep and manager the 5th time I had to drive from Kingwood to check on my order that did not show up. This happens in multiple deliveries. Their products are inexpensive but with the cost of my time dealing with their incompetence it would have been way les expensive to just get them from a good quality furniture store. The manager in duty today 8/14/2018 was no help I asked him to help me out to get me out the door and he told me he doesn't know how to do returns. The "yellow shirt" customer service people on the floor don't really want to be bothered. With that said, the prices are cheap and I like IKEA furniture and accessories for inexpensive accents around the house. I needed to return one item that had the pre-drilled holes drilled incorrectly and I'm sitting here in the store now. It's the middle of the day on a weekday and there is a long wait to return items and I'm not clear on why. They have you pull a number and you wait as they slooowly see people one at a time taking their time. As I've been sitting here, a lot of people gave up. Plan for 30 minutes to an hour to make even a simple return. The restaurants inside the store are cool and I'll keep coming here because this is the only IKEA in town. Worst shopping experience ever!!!! I researched the product I wanted on the website and was told they had 30 of them. I don't know why, but I wasn't a;;owed to purchase it online and then go pick it up. In any event, I decided to take the 2 hour round trip to get the item. When I got there I had the Row # and Bin # in hand, but it didn't say what section, so I went through three different sections which are all like mazes that you can't leave until you've been taken through the entire section. I spent about an hour until I found the Row/Bin I was looking for in the fourth section I went to, which was Warehouse. Signage and assistance are extremely poor to nonexistent. When I finally got to where the item was supposed to be there were none in the bin, with about 4 other people there looking for the same item. I ordered 2 desks with the legs and my total was just shy of $100. I was shocked that the delivery charge was $49, especially with all the US locations being closed. Unfortunately I was forced to pay it because we need the desks now that we are stuck working from home because of Covid 19. The kitchen table "set up" is just not working anymore because it's killing my back. To top it off, the desks won't be delivered until May 3!! I have to pay $49 (half of what my order cost) and wait almost a month to receive them - my back will be shot by then. Want to return something? Take a number, then go buy yourself some ice cream cone or hot dog and then play some candy crush on your phone until you're out of lives, and then go to the restroom, and then go out the store to talk on the phone and stay in the sun for 15 minutes, and then come back in just to realize that there's still four people ahead of you (No, I'm not exaggerating. This really happened to me.) The goods: hot dog is only $.50 and the ice cream cone is also $0.50. They also have cinnamon rolls and some other snack stuff in there. Once you enter you can get an IKEA Family card to have savings and events sent to your email, earn points and also get savings for your purchases. You can use this card online for your purchases and if you forget it you also get emails with your IKEA number so they can scan it. Next you enter the showroom there's complementary pencils with a detailed sheet for you to enter numbers and the section you will find your items at the end of the showroom where you will discover the section to pick these items and pay for them. You will find a variety of bedroom furniture for adults , kids and babies. Dining rooms, living room sets , everything kitchen you can think of and dishes, pots and pans. All cute too! It's all diy-you will have to build these items yourself. It's ok there's you tube videos and you get a manual to help as well. There's plenty of parking! It gets super crowded on the weekends, so if you decide to go then you should look online for your items and go with a game plan. They have a place for your kids, where you can check them in.. someone watches them, I've never used this service so idk how it works. Ah, IKEA....I personally have always had good experiences at IKEAs in general and at this IKEA, specifically. Although I'm not a fan of super-modern looking decor, I do love a lot of the furniture and decorations at IKEA. I also like the home essentials, candles, frames, etc. I like it that they have pretty much everything you could need to set up a home, lots of options, and really fantastic prices. I have a bed (mattress) from IKEA that is SO comfortable. Over the years I've also had coffee tables, end tables, bookshelves, pots and pans, duvet covers, picture frames, etc. I've always been pleased. An added perk of the IKEA experience is the food!!! I know there's that thing about the meatballs beings made of horse meat....and I have no idea if that's true....but even if it was, aren't we just opposed to horse meat because we're not used to it? I'm not saying I want to eat horse meat, I'm just saying how is it different from eating a cow? Anyway, their non meat food items are great too: ice cream, chocolate bars, cinnamon rolls, etc. I love the little Swedish grocery store that's downstairs. A few months ago I visited IKEA to find solutions to help with our morning routine. Particularly, to wake my family up on time for our morning routine. We needed something other than our cell phones and the 'Dekad Clock' was just what I had in mind. The store was crazy busy. Busier than I think I've ever seen it. But, I went in, put a shopping bag on my shoulder and I forged on with the masses. By the time I made it to the check out, I had more than an alarm clock, but that's how it seems to go for me and IKEA.:) After paying for my items, I made my way over to the market area and wandered around for a bit. I found my favorite wafers- Knäckerbrot- like the ones my Mother used to buy- and mindlessly dropped them in my bag. I picked up some pastries for my boys, too, but when I saw the looong line to buy them, I changed my mind and left. ...While inching along the I-10 Feeder Road, I realized I was a little peckish so I broke out the Knäckerbrot. I was thinking of how much I love the Knäckerbrot ...when I realized I had not actually PAID for them. I knew it would be a while before I would have a chance to get back over to IKEA, so I decided to mail an apology, and a check for my stolen food. I almost forgot about the whole ordeal until the other day, when I found a package from IKEA on my door. Inside were some of our favorite cookies, and a sweet card from the Customer Experience Manager&Team. Oh, and my voided Check! Im shocked that they went to all this trouble, but truly moved. I think the ultimate goal of 'Excellent Customer Service' is to leave a lasting impression of value and appreciation. Keena Garcia and her Customer Experience Team exceeded this objective, in my opinion, and I won't forget how they took time and care to let me know that they received my little gesture, appreciated it! Ikea is legendary in its ability to suit the needs of people from all walks of life. It seems you couldn't walk into a home in Houston without spotting at least one Ikea product. Wandering through the rooms they have set up, you think about reorganizing your whole life with their little bins and cubbys. Ikea has a way of making you rethink storage and functionality. Be prepared to hike a bit to get to the door - but once you've got your cart full of goodies, just pull your car to the loading dock to get it all in and home in a hurry. A big hot mess. I went on New Year's Eve day, 2020. Early in the morning as the store opened. I found a few things that caught my eye. Went right down to pick them up in the enormous warehouse floor. Very confusing, and hard to see where my items were. I asked to people who worked there and they seemed so disinterested, so soulless. I found the items myself but they were all sold out. There were TWO cashiers open and about 25 people in each line. Um, no thank you. Bye. Won't be back. read more
