OMG, I didn't know I lived so close to IKEA! This used to be a favorite place of mine to go and pick up cheap household items I couldn't possibly need but I rationalized in my head that I needed them. I am torn writing this review because there are weird things going on here but I also bought some great furniture pieces that I love. To get the negative over with, I feel like it's weird to not have plastic bags to put items in and the customer is forced to buy the blue bags that are sold after they rudely remove the bag in your basket to let you further know either you buy a bag or carry your items out in your hand. Not cool! They have bigger baskets but they are given out only to people with a lot of stuff at the end of the maze you go through. They are not available downstairs when you come in. Also, when you buy furniture they charge you a fee to pick it out. I almost laughed out loud but I went way under budget on my furniture so I didn't feel bad about the extra fee. It just seems a bit "money grubby" blatantly. They do deliver your furniture, sane day if you like, and put it together for you which comes at a fee per piece. I did like my furniture and most of the staff. The furniture was priced well for my budget. I do plan to purchase a few more pieces. Overall not bad. read more

Do you like adventures? That is what you get when you come to IKEA. As far as furniture stores go there is no comparison to the variety available here. Visually its a wonderland that offers you furniture but more importantly are the ideas. You go to buy one or a few things and come away with ideas to help make your place more of a home. Customer service - in the instances where I needed to deal with them have always been easy to work with and gone out of their way in their assistance whether it was planning delivery or creative ways to look at things. Quality of furniture - their furniture quality varies of course depending on what you want to pay. There are places that offer higher end furniture - IKEA gives even most of those places a run for their money. Delivery / Assembly - the fun part of course in the purchase is when you get it home (unless you need to put it together). I had one good delivery and one that was annoying. The good one ran ahead of schedule and was easy. The annoying one had me calling after the time frame had passed - I wasn't too happy about that one mostly because no one had called me. On the assembly they do offer to put the furniture together for you (for a price of course) - having followed the instructions has been easy enough to follow and complete. Even on a slow day it can be pretty busy inside and navigating the gigantic wonderland can be a bit much if you haven't already been before. I would recommend going but I would suggest either packing a little more patience or going during the weekday (at least for your first visit). read more

This store has suffered tremendously during COVID. They have tried to keep the layout clean and standard per the usual Ikea displays, but the lack of items to purchase is dramatic. Multiple items are missing to purchase, but the tags or display version is still there. Plates, picture frames, etc. Very limited inventory in the store. Very large spacious parking lot. read more

The ratings for this store is surprising to me. It's just like any other IKEA store across the USA. At least that's been my experience. People must not understand that you're expected to get lost up in there and the painted footsteps on the floor is going to lead you into a endless loop. You have to be mentally and emotionally prepared to visit the IKEA stores and you have to have some energy, physical strength and comfortable shoes because you will be in there for a while and may eventually find your way out. There will be lots of goodies along the way. If you get hungry during the process they have at least made it convenient for you to find the restaurant to spend your money there too and maybe stay a while longer. Maybe there is a way to GPS yourself back to your car, I don't know. For those of us who don't like crowds, shop in the evenings during a weekday. Park near the inventory pick up section. Expect to be there a while during any weekend and holiday peak seasons. You could also shop online, get the aisle and product number to find on first level so that you avoid being trapped like a rat in the IKEA maze. Good luck! read more

What a stressful ordeal. I went with a friend last weekend. She was overcharged on a piece of furniture she had previously purchased. We had to stand in a long line in the customer service area. They have a take a number system which is fine. The problem with that is one of the employees at the counter called out the number after us while our number was on the screen. This almost started a fist fight between me and another disgruntled customer. Everything was settled and we got my friend's money back. I was not happy with the rude employees (including a manager) and some of the ghetto people who shop there. My friend said this was the only way to get her refund as the IKEA website is lacking and their over the phone customer service is worthless. We go upstairs to look at furniture. There were a couple of items I had in mind, but I did not find anything decent. Most of the furniture is of poor quality. The chairs I tried were not ergonomic or comfortable. The prices were a bit high and did not match the quality or lack there of. We went downstairs and my friend picked out a few items for her home and office. She was happy with what she had found. We proceed to checkout to find two long lines. They only had two cashiers to handle about a hundred customers. I felt like I was at Ellis Island in the 1920s. It was ridiculous! IKEA, hire more people!!! And, I hope you can find employees with better attitudes! IKEA started out as a brilliant idea. A big, giant box store selling cheap furniture to working class and middle class people as well as office furniture to all kinds of businesses. Poorly organized. A lot of sold out items still being advertised on shelves. The flatbeds are "supposed to be" on aisle 7 the employee told my sister in law yesterday (after she chewed him out for a violation of ADA since we are both disabled) and they make you walk all the way to the front of where the bins are to get a flatbed. The bins have the wrong product where your product is supposed to be. And the big kicker that really P me off is the downstairs cafe. It's like a cattle call. Don't people have any sense to know that there is a cafeteria upstairs ?! Why do they all have to flock like bees to a hive at the downstairs cafe ? There are FOUR self checkout tall computers, the staff won't ring you up which is idiotic! Like clockwork (I was here yesterday and today ) there are people that seem to be stuck on stupid putting their order in for hots dogs or pizza or whatever they're ordering at snails pace. At this point I think they're using the order/ checkout tall computers as a video game because they are clearly playing on them. Meanwhile, the lines are to the checkout which is unacceptable! I have for 2 days tried to buy some frozen food and Swedish grocery items for my kids and CANT! Because these people chose to be hogs and play on the computers and waste everyone's time! Staff need to start ringing people up. Yesterday evening 2 of these self ordering stations were CLOSED and about a dozen ppl were waiting at the 2 open computers. This ikea has gone downhill ! It's also hard to find staff to help and the customers walk backwards on purpose in the walking lanes / aisles and it's very difficult and dangerous. Why don't they see the arrows on the ground ? This is the first time I've been to this Ikea. It looked small compared to the one in Live Oak,TX. It's nots small at all. It has a second floor. The lighting section was lovely. It had a lot more lighting options than any other Ikea I've been to. The way they setup the displays are very nice. They really pop and you will give them your attention. The best part about IKEA shopping is peeking in the display rooms that are perfectly decorated like a little playhouse. The cafeteria is also a contender. Parking in ANY IKEA is always a nightmare and a jaunt. The lines to pay are ridiculously long and hunting for your treasure in the warehouse can be exhausting. After hiking thru the whole store and searching for our finds, we were sadly disappointed that the barstools we picked were not all available. A half day of fun and we walked out with nothing. Let me start this review by saying that, yeah, I am obviously aware that we are in the middle of a pandemic. And maybe what I am writing about isn't earth shattering, but retailers should be bending backwards to take care of customers. IKEA definitely is not. What prompted me to visit the Houston IKEA was that I received an email giving me a $10 credit, and a free frozen yogurt, for my birthday. It was a nice gesture, and why wouldn't I take advantage of it? Let's set this aside for the moment. I selected 3 items for my bath, which would be discounted because of the coupon. I could not order the items online since they don't honor their own coupons on their web site. Their app is laughingly mediocre, as it doesn't give availability for items, or even doesn't have a store locator. So, I had to get into my car and drive over to IKEA, a 25 mile drive. When I got to the store, I could not find my items. I asked a couple of store employees, who looked in their systems and told me that 2 of the 3 items were backordered. OK, I continued to look around the bath section, and actually 1 of the 2 items was not even stocked and labeled properly; I found it only by accident. Alright, I had to substitute another item, so I had what I needed and I went to check out. The checkout process went smoothly, the only thing that did. After that, I walked across from the cash registers to the Bistro to collect my frozen yogurt. All of their self serve machines were closed, which I totally get. I went to the counter and tried to order my frozen yogurt. They refused to take the coupon that I showed them, since they said their barcode scanner was broken. I asked if there would be any way we could do this, since I don't live close by. They refused to help me. Not cool. OK, so I tried to call their Customer Support number, to discuss my concerns. The first woman I reached was really empathetic, and she said she would transfer me to their resolution group, who would help me. What she transferred me to was a recording that said they were too busy to help, and then hung up on me. I called back right away, and got a second person, who did the exact same thing to me. I then called back a third time, and I'm afraid that I lost it. I explained to the person I reached that I had been cut off twice in the last 5 minutes, and I wanted to speak to a supervisor in that group, not resolution. She refused to transfer me, saying that they have a protocol and that was the protocol. I had enough, and I hung up on her. I then attempted to send an email, but they are not accepting emails now except to cancel orders. As others have indicated, this experience is not unusual. They are providing NO customer support, and their store experience, which in the best terms can be characterized as spartan, is now negative. Products are not located where they are supposed to be, retail equipment is broken, and there are not enough people to help. Those that are available don't seem to care about providing any kind of service, let alone decent service. They've lost me as a customer, forever. read more

Only thing that I MUST stress is you do not really want to shop here alone since this involves so many eye candy things that one would want to pick up for their home. Why do I say this? Well because the more items you pick up, the move you have to carry from the front of the store where the metal stop poles won't let you take a basket out to wherever your car is parked and if you have a few things and unfortunately parked a football field away, your arms will get very tired by the time you get to your car, ask me how I know, I dare you. Also, there is also a chance that even if you go to fetch your car really quick it is an open possibility that someone might swap something from your waiting cart and take it with them, just saying. IKEA is perfectly fine. Most of their furniture is pretty well made. Kitchens in particular are nicely done (we had one for 10 years). But the customer service. First off, IKEA thinks that e-commerce is a fad. Trying to track an online order is a nightmare. I once had it take so long that when it eventually showed up they gave me $125 of merchandise for free. I could've walked to Houston, bought the stuff I wanted and walked back in the time it took to order it online. And when you have a problem, I'm convinced that it's handled by one old person in Sweden who works 2 hours a week. It's a nightmare. We went on a busy weekend and found parking, wandered in past the day care area, and went upstairs. I'm glad they give you a map and label shortcuts, because this place is HUGE. I found a cheap couch for under $500 that is a good short term replacement for my old broken down one. I also found some great plain green dishes. A set of 30 dishes was $30. I thought it was a great deal. You definitely have to spend some time at IKEA to comb through the junk to get to some good quality cheap items instead of just the cheap-cheap stuff that will fall apart in a few weeks or months. My daughter wanted a white dresser for her room, spent about an hour getting her the perfect dresser, after buying the dresser loaded it in the car then returned for a nice lunch. Very pleasant way to spend an hour or two. Love that all the furniture is flat packed so it will fit in a regular sedan, as long as your back seats fold down. IKEA is a neat store. They really do have almost everything you need to furnish a home at a great price. Their goods are inexpensive and relatively good quality for the price. While that is the most important part about IKEA, I must say that I hate going inside the store. The layout is so confusing and it is easy to get lost or miss something. Even though they have maps, it's still confusing. In addition, the warehouse feel of the interior is unwelcoming. Also, the staff at this location were not the best. We waited to check out for 25min (and we were 2nd in line!) because they couldn't find a spatula that a woman was buying in their system. The line was about 10 people long at that point. If they would change the look and feel of the interior, and have a better process for checkout, I would give IKEA 5 stars. read more

This was my first visit to the famous ikea and yes I did get lost in the maze. I loved the store and ended up picking a few things. The best part of the entire trip to ikea was their famous food. I had their famous Swedish meatballs with beans and mashed potatoes and gravy. I had their chocolate cake and the almond crunch cake. The almond crunch cake is literally my favorite cake now. I ended up getting some frozen Swedish meatballs and more almond crunch cake. I loved the cake so much that I tried making it during the pandemic with the chocolate I bought from them! The cattle are the customers, in the worst sense of that word: the processing of you is streamlined, and it is fine on average, but it sucks to be the customer when something goes wrong or you are trying to do something that is not included in their very narrowly scripted use cases. We've been shopping at Ikeas in different part of the country for 20 years. The idea behind the store is great. The furniture quality used to be better, but it still fine for the most part. But all that until something in the process deviates from the narrow "standard" path. Once things start going wrong, - you can waist hours and months of your time to get the resolution. That was very bad in 2011, when it took over 3 months and several-times-a-week phone calls - to resolve the situation with the missing parts for the baby-changing table. [3 months with a newborn baby is a long time!] Fast-forward to 2021, and the situation is even worse. Nothing that has "e-" is known by the corporate Ikea, - they are stuck in 1999. There is no way to get e-support. The phone support is clueless and helpless. During the pandemic, they introduced "Click and collect". But they forgot to make it usable: you can neither specify when you can pick up, nor you can know how long your order will be held. E.g. Walmart clearly states that they will hold your order for 7 days. We placed the order late Sunday night; Monday morning, they sent e-mail that the order can be picked up that day, until 9pm. The phone support says they will hold it for 24 hours, but they also told that it is OK to come next day, and indeed, the order was still available. But it was very uncertain, and nobody knows for sure. When you have to drive 1.5-2 hours to the store, you want to be sure... However, there is no way to extend that hold, or do anything with it. And with this most recent order, - one part (x4) is missing (actually, there is a wrong part instead of it). The phone customer service ordered it for me, or at least the confirmation e-mail says so, but there is no ETA for arrival, so who knows how long it will take... I might be forced to pick another day and to drive 2+2=4 hours again just to pick up those parts from the store. The assembly instructions were missing as well, but at least, those are easy to download from the website. A pleasant touch about Ikea Houston store is that they announce that if your nose is not covered by the mask, you should cover it or leave the store. I don't know how well they enforce that policy though. read more

I love going to ikea. I've been to a few, mostly in New Jersey and Dallas area. My visit to this one was not really productive as I had hoped it would be. I came looking to configure an entertainment stand , the Besta and needed assistance to help build one. I could not find anyone to help me. The one person I found directed me to someone in the department. But it wasn't helpful since no one was there. The cashier was friendly. But if you need assistance in the showrooms, good luck finding someone with information to help you. My brother waited 10 mins for someone to page another associate to help him in lighting. Cashier in the cafeteria looked unamused when I asked her what time lunch started at. The food was good though and the food servers were friendly. read more

The self serve kiosk did not give me an option for cash so I asked the lady upfront to which she rudely said "do you not have a card or what?" To where she obviously looked annoyed and had to call someone in to give ur change for an ice scream. My niece then dropped her ice-cream outside and I went back in to get another. I saw that the self serve kiosk did not have the option for the pink icecream to which I went up to the same lady and asked why it wasn't there to which she rudely said "that's because we don't have it" I would recommend coming here to look for things although the customer service isn't great. read more

I've been coming to this IKEA since I was in like middle school maybe? Memories of coming here with my dad shopping for room furniture and desks to study on. I guess the bonding was building the dang furniture ha! It get's pretty busy on the weekends (I try to avoid the crowds), but I just visited last night at 8pm and it was fairly empty just how I like it. I've been looking at couches for my new apartment and am really indecisive. I wanted to come and sit on the couches in person and really get a feel for them in my space. I signed up for the IKEA family card for discounts/savings (DO IT!) I got a BOGO coupon for a fro-yo! I need a better map of the shortcuts in the show room because I swear it's so big I just wanted to find the exit like I was in a maze! Then you get sucked in to looking at each room setup and spend more time there. If you know what you are coming for you can avoid going upstairs and go straight to the self serve kiosks and find your item in the appropriate aisles. They have an As Is section located near the exit where you can buy items for even more discount. I may come back again if I don't decide to go with a West Elm couch. read more

Horrible horrible experience and nightmare dealing with IKEA. I went to the store and purchased a 3 piece sectional sleeper sofa. I paid for delivery and was on my way. The next day, the delivery guys brought a couch missing an arm, cloth, pillows, and screws. I called customer service and waited on hold for an hour only for them to tell me I would have to go into the store to get my missing items or open a case by phone that could take 10-12 days for investigation. I decide to drive back to the store (37 miles) only to find out that the items that were missing were out of stock! Are you kidding me? Smh! So wait there's more. I decide I want to just forget the whole thing and get a refund. I was then told I would have to call customer service to schedule a delivery "pick up" and after the items are returned I would get a refund. I call customer service again, wait an hour and a half on hold to schedule the pick up. A week later, the delivery guys were scheduled for a 11-3pm window. They did not show up until 10:00pm. Not only was the whole day wasted, my night was ruined. I call the store a few days later to confirm they got my items and inquired about my refund. They bluntly tell me that they received my furniture but that I would have to come back into the store for a refund. They further indicated that they don't do refunds over the phone due to fraud. So you mean to tell me you have the last four digits of my card that the purchase was made and you have my items but can't give me a refund? Pure bullshit. I drive another 37 miles back to the store to finally get my refund. I've taken a total of 6 trips back and forth and have nothing but wasted time and gas dealing with IKEA. I will tell anyone to avoid them like the plague! Stay away! read more

Oh IKEA! I have a love/hate relationship with this place. It's cool to walk around and get ideas and pick up little knick knacks. When I got my first place, and ballin' on a budget, IKEA came in clutch with some decent looking furniture but not the greatest quality. When I grew up, I knew I had to invest in higher quality big items elsewhere. Fast forward to now, it's time to move my son into his first apartment at Texas Tech. He needed a few items as the apartments provided the big items. We came looking for a desk and some sort of shelves. We found some pretty nice items and lo and behold, it seemed like their whole inventory of desks and shelves were out. I even checked the closest IKEA to Lubbock which would be the Dallas area and they were out of the same items. Maybe it's the lumber shortage. Maybe it's the pandemic and so many kids are home schooling now. Whatever it is, they need to do better and keeps things in stock or not display it at all. The icing on the cake was that I didn't even get my icing fix. They weren't selling the cinnamon rolls at checkout. First world problems! Ikea's model is contemporary style furniture, and one that is defined as hollow. It is still on the inexpensive side, but pretty cool and their quality has gotten better. They have a huge parking lot with plenty of spaces to park. As you enter the premises, you take the escalators, to go up one level to the showroom. The showroom is humongous. You can feel overwhelmed with the tons of bedroom sets, dining room sets, living room sets, bathroom sets, kitchen sets, appliances, bedding, linen, fixtures and furniture etc. There are some great signage and navigational signs to help you guide through the showroom. It's pretty much a maze, and you follow the route from one end to the other. Each area has a work order sheet, where you mark the item and its location on aisle. This helps you locate your item on the bottom level where the warehouse is. After you've made your selections, just take the escalators down towards the warehouse and stock your items on the cart. They also have a huge kitchen gadget section on the bottom floor, along with bedding n linen and bathroom accessories. They also have a cafeteria on premises, and I've usually noticed it being pretty full every time. Folks usually spend a few hours at Ikea, and I can imagine their hunger pangs kicking in. They have plenty of cash registers open, but check out still seems long, due to massive shopping each client does. I also had to return an item at customer service, which too is located at the bottom level. Basically, you pick a number in the queue, and wait to be called. It was pretty seamless organized process, and I had no problems returning my item. Their return policy is pretty relaxed. I do plan on retuning to Ikea for other purchases. read more

After going to Ikea and actually buying something I needed to update my review and switch it to one star. My wife and I went and bought a Kallex bookshelf. It's huge, 6 foot by 6 foot. We looked at the assembled display and decided it was what we needed. We had already decided to have it delivered and assembled. There are no signs explaining how things work and no employees in sight to ask so we got in line to pay. We got to the register and were told even thou it was being delivered, we had to pull the boxes off the shelf and bring them to a register. There were four boxes about seven feet long full of heavy wooden shelves. I have back problems and there is no way I could even attempt this. He said the only other option was, that we pay $40 for an employee to pull them off the shelf and bring them to the register. It was delivered and assembled two days later and we are happy with it but just doesn't sit well with me that we had to pay $40 to have it pulled from the shelf. read more

Decent starter furniture with inexpensive prices. Some even look more expensive that listing prices. Ikea even sell appliances. All kinds of relatively decent priced accessories. Most furnitures require self pick up and assembly. Third party delivery and assembly available at a price. My youngest daughter and I dropped in to buy a bookshelf and shoe cabinet. Both were out of stock, so we left empty handed, but we did ate dinner at the upstair restaurant. We will return in two weeks because the sale lady said my youngest daughter's wanted items will be in stock. read more

This was my second time coming to IKEA. The store has a very interesting concept of marketing their home or ready-to-assemble furniture. It seems that you go through a sequence of show rooms where you mark down products you like on a paper provided by IKEA. Then you proceed to the open warehouse type layout where you can purchase whatever you liked from the showrooms and more. Though the concept is interesting, it's not for me. I just like to go into a shop, go straight for what I want and pay. Nothing more, nothing less. However it served as a nice Sunday afternoon outing. read more

To me, it's quite evident how IKEA has come to dominate the world with it's endless seas of home furniture, fixtures, and accessories... Inexpensive, simple, whatever you want - they have it. But in terms of long-lasting "grown-up" furniture - ehhh, only certain IKEA products would suffice. The particle wood and basic reinforcements in their furniture and fixtures probably wouldn't be a good bet for the long run. But for your college years, your kids, and being broke and on a budget - IKEA ftw. BUT there are some really decent quality things that I would purchase and continue to purchase from IKEA regardless of whatever stage in life I'm in - the shelving, glassware, lamps . . . things of that nature. I will say that the photoshoots in the IKEA catalogs are always stylized in such a professional way that it seems nearly unattainable in real life, but hah, like that' s a shocker! As you can imagine, this IKEA is massive and it's a bit of a light workout navigating through the labyrinth and a bit confusing at times - in spite of the overhead signs. Their little classification system is pretty easy to comprehend and the employees have always been helpful whenever I've solicited their help. IKEA food - I've never had it but some of it seems pretty darn affordable. The cafeteria options do seem far more attractive than the offerings of my childhood adventures at Luby's cafeteria, take that as you will. The dollar deals on corndogs, frozen yogurt and soft drinks are pretty great for a quick snack or to appease the kiddies. So yeah, I do like IKEA, it's pretty perfect if you approach it as what it is! read more

Do not order delivery from Ikea as they will mess up your delivery and refuse to take responsibility. They use a lousy transportation company and will direct you to them. They missed the delivery date, then attempted it again without notifying me, asked that I be present to sign for it, didn't bother to notify even though it's their policy, and scheduled for the end of the week: four days after the scheduled delivery date. Incompetent customer service representatives at Ikea are snarky and will tell you to go ahead and post about your experience on social media, so that's what I'm doing to warn others. The disgusting representative even said, "that's what they all say, but they always come back to Ikea". No. Actually, last time I bought anything from Ikea was 10 years ago. I will never ever buy anything at Ikea and will warn others, including anyone reading this. Avoid! read more
