Ikea is great, we have young kids and some things I simply know will get destroyed, I buy Ikea products for those situations and never get upset if the kids draw on them or the dogs drool on them. :) The prices are fair and they have a huge selection of products.I like how the store is set up as "rooms" to show the products in use vs just a warehouse like costco or sams, by doing the stage rooms in this manner it offers ideas and tips without saying a word. Onto the cafe- The chocolate cake is next level, I really would love for the cake to be sold in the food area so I could buy for birthdays because it is delightful. I enjoy the sweedish meatballs and the liongonberry soda on tap! The price is right and its a great option to help refuel you and the kids while you have a full day of shopping. Ikea is not the easiest store to navigate through when it comes to shopping. You have to have a plan, know what you're looking for, break it down by section. But it is the type of place that can be fun to walk around, check out the displays in the showroom, get ideas as well as find some really neat and well designed gadgets, furniture, storage items, lighting etc. Ikea can really be your one stop shop, IF you know how to shop this place. When a store has a play place to check your kid into while you shop, you know you're in for an intense shopping experience. In all the years I've shopped at Ikea, I have found lots of hits and lots of misses. Certain furniture is extremely cheap, pressed particle board crap. Other pieces are thoughtful and well made. Decorating and organizing items are pretty bulletproof here and you can quickly change the look and feel of any room with just a few thoughtful purchases. The collapsible drawer organizers are always great, same with the 18 pc. Tupperware for 5 bucks. Lots of great kitchen gadgets. Strip lighting is cheap and easy to install, instantly making your tv or picture frames back lit and more high end looking. Certain wood furniture also comes unfinished so you can stain or paint it to your preferences. Which can be really convenient if you, like me, love to personalize everything you own. Decorating stuff that is both unique and functional is where I feel like Ikea really takes the prize. Whether it's an organizer or hanging dish rack or a simple rolling cart to turn into a bar cart or makeshift kitchen island. There designs are modern, sleek and clean. Ridiculous lines. It's Labor Day weekend and they have only ONE line open, that's operated by an employee, to pay. Of course they had the annoying "self check out" lines open but we had to unfortunately go to a live operator. Before that though, we had to get into one line to "order" the product....also manned by just one employee. Then another line to pay for it. And lastly, a third line to collect the item. Why can't we just get the item ourselves and go pay instead of standing in all these lines?? Ugh! And then we get to go home and deal with the instructions for the item. Great location! As someone who works part-time and is a full-time student, IKEA is where I come whenever I need some inexpensive furniture or decor for my place. Building their furniture isn't a problem, most of it can be searched on YouTube for step-by-step tutorials on how to do it! I bought some indoor plants from IKEA a few years ago and they're still thriving, super cost-effective for me. Overall just a fun place to get lost inside of for a day! read more

Some days IKEA gives me anxiety and some days I wonder why I don't stop by more. On this occasion, we stopped by to pick up some plants and pots. We also purchased some other home items which we later returned. I'm really into white plant pots for indoor plants, so I purchased a few. The plants are doing really well and I like how the white pots look so simple. I am also a big fan of their organization bins. Again, all white. Returns were easy except that you will need to bring your receipt or the cc you used to purchase item. Oh and an ID if your return is over $125 (even with a receipt). Regarding their cafe: I feel like food has gotten more expensive here. Breakfast is cheap but only served between 9:30-11am. Not long enough in my opinion. The meatballs ($6) are ok but doesn't fill you up even with the veggies and mashed potatoes. Kids meals ($3/$3.50) are equally the same. Their food is reheated and served to you so it's nothing special. I'll have to try their salads next time but it always seem like they run out of dishes often. Only reason we eat here is because of the free coffee/tea (IKEA family card) and because of the small play area for our son. We don't feel so bad about him running around while eating. Side note: We can't wait until he is big enough so we can check him into the kid's play area. I gave IKEA 4 stars only because it is family friendly and because I love the simplicity of Swedish design which is what I'm really into right now. We don't think their furniture last long but we do like their small household items. Frisco IKEA is the worse location I've ever been to. Customer service sucks, it's no wonder it's a self service type of store. They rung up as $9.99, the cashier refuse to call someone to confirm the price on the floor. She told me to go back and take a picture for her. I love IKEA's food so much that I came here strictly for dinner one night. If you order just the meatballs with the gravy and lingonberry sauce, then it'll cost you about $3 and leave you with plenty of spending money for the rest of the store. The meatballs definitely shrunk a bit since the last time I was here, but the taste was the same. I wanted a coffee with my meal, which is free with an IKEA Family card. I didn't bring the card, but the very sweet cashier scanned hers for me and also shared some stories with me about her dogs. I just left Ikea in Frisco. What a disappointment! I walked up to the "Service" Desk to get my item. The guy looked at me and said it wasn't in stock. I expressed how frustrating that was. I'm not sure what there isn't to like about IKEA! Affordable house goods, cafe to eat at, and more! Much of our stuff is from IKEA, including our entire bedroom set, bedding, pieces of other furniture, and decor. We get compliments on our bedroom set frequently! Do not think you're ever going to "make a quick trip to IKEA." This is not a thing. Plan, at bare minimum, an hour here. They have several rooms set up with ideas for how to decorate various rooms for various preferences. This is great for people like me who aren't good at putting things together like this. Take a pic, find what you need in the warehouse area. Anything you find in the show rooms, you'll need to write down or take a picture of the number at the bottom. This will help you find it in the warehouse at the end. Everything must be assembled at home and comes with directions, and is not too difficult. You can pay them to do it, but we found that to be quite pricey. They have a child care area visitors can use for free! I've never used it, but it looks nice and is right at the front entrance. I love buying food from the little market downstairs. We always buy at least one bag of veggie balls and the potato pancakes to take home. I have been going to Ikea for many, many years. Can't say I've ever eaten at the Cafeteria before. While my experience was nothing to pack up the family and go to diner there I have to say the food on the signs looked very appetizing. Imagine my surprise when I go to the Cafeteria style counter and it looked just like the picture lol. Chicken meatballs mashed potatoes and veggies is what I ordered. Gravy was added and I gotta tell you it was good lol. I couldn't believe it as I looked at a lady sitting across from me. Her look was like mine in that we were surprised together. Mashed potatoes were creamy and smooth. I even moved my fork through the gravy in search of a lump or two. None. The Meatballs has obviously been frozen but again they were good. A great cafeteria style restaurant, it offers dishes that are strange to some...maybe more common or stereotypical Swedish...but overall are pretty tasty and satisfying to most pallets. Keep in mind, this is a low cost food option designed to keep you in the store and shopping, so don't expect full on gourmet meals. Think more of a beautiful blond haired, blue eyed McDonald's with a cute accent. They do offer great kids meals which consist of smaller portions. I highly recommend getting 2-3 of the kids meals to create a "sampler platter" if you're not quite sure what you're in the mood for. I love how their merchandise is well thought out and since you have to put it together, their instructions have gotten me through all of the furniture building I've learned to do since IKEA furniture is all "Assemble yourself"...except for an extra delivery and setup fee, they'll do it for you. On to the review.... The Dallas location is actually in Frisco. It's a newer location that is laid out like the 2 other IKEA's I've visited in two other cities. Two stories tall with the furniture and "Home within a Home" setups. These are like samples of mobile homes that you can walk through an entire house of different sizes. The top floor is a walk around maze going through different types of room furniture. The biggest negative is the mass of people walking around me, bumping into me, or plain shoving me out of their hurried way. Screaming kids are another consistent sight at IKEA. The bottom floor is where you'll find the smaller items like kitchen goods, towels, rugs, etc. Very good selection of items you won't find elsewhere. They have a sit-down restaurant. They are known for their Swedish meatballs and cinnamon rolls. I had the smoked salmon and for $5.79, it was an incredible price for a well cooked smoked salmon. The part I hate about IKEA is the checkout line. It is ALWAYS long and ALWAYS takes 30+ minutes to checkout. Some of the cashiers are friendly, others have been short and ready for the next customer. Bottom Line" If you're looking to save a lot of $$$ on furniture, IKEA is the place for you. The savings comes in the exchange of buying it in a box that you take home and assemble yourself. If you've never been to an IKEA store, it's an experience to behold. Approaching from the outside, it's, well, blue. And big. And did I mention, blue? Parking is fairly plentiful, and if you end up with a haul, there's a spacious loading area that you can move to when you're done. But I'm getting ahead of myself. Walking into the store, you get the European vibe right away. At this particular store (don't know about others), most of the big stuff that you can't carry in a buggy is upstairs (e.g. furniture), but you can get a buggy up the elevator if you want to. Both levels "flow" from one area to the next like a maze, with a few (but not enough, IMO) little "escapes" to help you avoid walking the whole store. The products are almost all unique to Ikea, and most are quite innovative or novel in some way. There are some exhibits showing their products in "model living spaces" including what one might have in a 750 sq ft apartment (and some even smaller). If you're going to buy, and the product isn't available right there where you see it, you need to make a note of the item number and the location where it's stored; that'll help you in the next phase... ...locating your product. After you've done all of your shopping, it's time to get your spoils. For this, there is a Gi. Nor. Mous. area with aisles and shelves and bins that has the products not found on the showroom floor. Navigate to the right spot, double check your item numbers and get your product. If it has multiple boxes, make sure you get the right number of each. Finally, head to the checkout area, where you can do self checkout or regular, and after that, you can have some Swedish meatballs at the cafe to reward yourself! I've purchased a ton of stuff from there, ranging from inexpensive plastic tumblers all the way to a $1,000 corner Ektorp sofa, and I've loved nearly all of it. There is delivery and setup service available onsite just past the registers if you buy something too big or too complex to setup. If you're still bent on doing it yourself, pull your car into the loading dock area, and you'll even get some free help with loading, and these guys know how to get some big stuff into small spaces, so give them a tip if they help you. All in all, I love shopping at Ikea, but I do wish it was easier to move around in the store if you've already chosen your product beforehand and just want to dash in and get it. I'm so disappointed with home organization section. First of all I saw this shoe rack and it was the prefect color and size so I go all the way to the aisle and guess what they were out of stock. So, I went back to see if they were getting more of it. The guy looked it up in the computer and it said they had 5 of them in stock. Which was not true!!! Then he did mention that I could ask the manger in that section and get the display one. But it took me 15 mins to actually find a guy by children's department who finally helped me, by this time my husband was already impatient and mad. We come to check out then the guy in check out says didn't they give u the shoe rack? So now I went back and this thing was nailed to the wall, and no body around to help me. I never have a bad experience here. If I can't find something the employees are helpful. The only thing I didn't like this particular trip was we were looking for children's hangers in the hanger area downstairs but they didn't have any there so we had to go to the kids furniture upstairs to get them but then there are no solid color options. We wanted hangers for a kid boy so we paid for multi colored hangers that include pink so we had to buy extra hangers to replace the pink ones that we won't use. Maybe Ikea will come out with kids hangers that are just white or just black or solid blue. Checkout was quick and easy and I commend the staff for staying calm with customers that forget something or decide they don't want something and just dealing with the large lines in general. The best place to pleasure your eyes. Wow, all their showrooms inspire me with every visit with decorating, organizing and furniture ideas. Everything (almost everything) is easy on the wallet. Even when it comes to buying furniture that could possibly break your bank, you got to ask yourself if the investment you're about to make will last you on the long term. Furniture, in general, is meant to last for years to come, so I think that in terms of investing in necessities of your house, you should let the thought of money slip away. This place is filled with EVERYTHING every house needs. Sometimes I get a little overwhelmed in their lighting department - just too many to choose from. I overhear people complain around me during my visits that there should be a shortcut because of the fact that you have to pass by the entire walkway though the building just to exit - it's a marketing strategy. I planned to be here strictly for a list of a few items, and then I wound up getting twice the amount upon leaving. Ikea wants you to pass by every awesome thing they know they have just to lure you into buying it when you didn't even plan on it...oh, well. Even though I am aware of this strategy, it surely did work on me. But it's okay. I asked myself million times if I actually needed it before I put the items down. I did. I really enjoy this place because it's pretty much my style - modern contemporary. Most of the items they sell fall into that category. It, in a way, motivates me to maintain my house better. Customer service is a thimg of the past. The counter clerk at "customer service" was rude and insolent. I asked to speak to the manager. They sent, Diego, a boy in his 20's. I love the prices and products but the layout of the store is maddening. It's a maze that you cannot get out of. If you want to browse for a few hours it's great. If you want to get something specific and get out you won't be able to. The small land (child care) is nice but only allows the child to stay for 1 hour. With the maze system you really can't even find what you are looking for before heading back through the maze to pick up your child. Plus, 90% of the time it's full and won't accept more kids. I can't even call customer service because no one will ever answer on hold forever & have tried at least 10 different times. Ikea's customer service department must have been closed down because you can never get through ! Online ordering is non existent just tells me order shipped and on way and when I try to track it only says order created. no options to cancel re-schedule or any help what so ever This is the most pathetic service I have ever experienced in my life after spending $1000. my only option is to dispute with my credit card , Ikea will never get my money again !!!!! ever !!!! *Cooktop did eventually show up two months after I ordered it but lousy communication with non existent Cust SERV help. read more
