A perfect example of a company that has gone way too far from its roots. Rude customer service staff. A don't care attitude. Not a results driven company. Why any appliance maker continues to work with them is beyond me. Stay far away. Far far away as in a galaxy I scheduled to have my speed Queen worked on for a minor leak repair. Only a 3 year old unit used very conservatively. That's the first issue. I was sold these machines are rock solid. But aside from that... they show up in my mind to fix it (I told them what the problem was) and the tech merely confirmed what I said myself and then said they would need to order the part. I had upcoming work travel so... of course the part took 72 hours so I scheduled with them immediately for my return between two trips. Then the morning they are due to arrive they just cancel and say they rebooked me for another week!! No backup plan. No nothing. So I call and spoke to an exceedingly unhelpful supervisor who said the tech was ill (this happens) but the had no backup got a week?!!! They sure are happy to sell appliances but not to stand behind them. I explained I had to travel again but I could do the Thursday or Friday of the week I'm traveling and they told me they could only do Wednesday. No effort to meet actual customer service. This is a joke of a company. Go to M and M appliances in DC. Or Sterling appliances. Or Costco even!! But don't go to these people. I've seen better support from a cotton ball knee brace than what this company offers. They clearly don't plan for contingencies or prioritize their service to customers via internal resource management. Zero stars if I could

I have been without a fridge for five months since June 2025 bray and scarff will sell you a warranty, but to a third-party and that third-party is called centricity and they are completely inept. I've had six service calls to service my fridge (compressor died 1yr 1 month)and it still doesn't work. Bray and scarff doesn't care and they deflect any responsibility and blame it on centricity and centricity will contract out third-party vendors who won't be able to work on your fridge anyway at least the Bosch 800. All in all shame on bray and scarff for not taking ownership of this process because they mistakenly chosed the cheapest partnership with a warranty company who do does not respect the consumer or their time. Shame on you Bray and scarff for working with a warranty company such centricity. Is there no pride or integrity in "local" businesses anymore. I'll answer, nope guess not. -------------------------------------------- update as of 14 October; no one from customer service Bray and scarrf has reached out or called or even emailed me back after asking me to reach out.

I asked what cabinet distributors they used and she couldn't give me a name, she said they use many. I then asked what the difference would be between getting a particular cabinet color (not knowing what my options were or what would be in stock without a company name), and she said custom vs semi custom are just words and that it's all pretty much custom so it wouldn't make a difference. Upon asking a few more questions, she proceeded to tell me "I'm not sure if you saw, but our company has almost a 5-star review and that's almost unheard of". I didn't know what to make of it, but considering what some of their reviews mentioned, I felt as though we were going to get the same treatment. She said she'd get back to me by Friday with a quote and a visual of the kitchen updates-- it was Tuesday that day. We gave her a call that Friday afternoon to follow up and she insisted that the cabinet company was taking a while and that she'd get back to us by Monday the latest if not over the weekend. We waited and got nothing so my husband called her the following Wednesday without ever hearing from her. She continued to reassure us that she hasn't forgotten about us and that she'd get back to us by Monday for sure. It's now been 21 days and we got no updates or any communication from them. It's clear that this is a pattern for them and I'd advise someone looking to get work done by someone reliable and honest to look elsewhere.

BUT I needed the tools(pans, baking tools, and the skills). That wasn't happening today. The staff was SUPER informative and encouraging. He signed me up for the rewards program and gave me some coupons to order online and get free shipping. He explained that this location is actually a pop up that has been there since 2024. He said they would be closing soon. He did mention that Old Town Alexandria was getting a permanent store. Maybe by that time, I will have developed some cooking skills.

This employee-owned business has perfected the art of all things baking and has made it accessible for the masses. You can purchase their items at Whole Foods and even BJ's ... but this store is truly a showcase of their greatest hits. I nearly blacked out as I placed box after box of baking mix into my cart. Their mixes run the gamut from scones, pancakes, popovers, babka, muffins, pretzels, pizza dough, and more. I got 20% off since it was Black Friday and they even gave me a little bundt cake ornament as a special gift. They had their gingerbread cake out to sample, and it was surprisingly delicious (as someone who does not traditionally like gingerbread). This is a pop-up that is scheduled to close soon but I hope that they find another home in the area soon. Everyone I interacted with was super nice and friendly too!

We had already gotten a couple of quotes, but really liked Dan and told them we wanted to move forward. Erika was extremely evasive about a quote. It was getting irritating. After a couple of months I couldn't let her off the hook, I wanted to get this project underway. I had to have an estimate. Her response to me was well "what is your budget." I said "I want what I want. " Again a runaround. She told me how qualified Dan was and any plumbers/craftsman they used and that we need to compare apples to apples. Of course, I understand that. She finally gave me a quote that I thought was quite high. So, in the meantime, I had contacted the manufacturer of the tile to make sure we had a contractor that was qualified to install large format tile. Then, Erika texted me and gave us a 10% discount. "Would that work?" She asked. Mind you, she refused to give us a breakout of any of the costs. I asked about the cost of the shower glass because I knew it was a pass-through. She wouldn't give me that. She also would not give me any itemization. She kept saying whether it comes in lower or higher we absorb the cost/or gain. She said they are different and just give one price. They aren't like other contractors. That's fine, I've never come across that, but they run the risk of losing a client. I got a quote from an equally qualified contractor. Except for Century, he was the highest bidder, but was considerably less expensive. The job is finished and we have a beautiful bathroom - -zero entry (aka walk-in) shower and large format tiles. It's a shame that Erika's evasiveness was very offputting. She seems to handle the business side and Dan does the technical side. As noted above, we were eager to work with them. However, the difficulties with the pricing made it impossible to move forward with them.

I had seen some stuff online via Ferguson's website, but I wanted to actually chat with a person in real life about my proposed project so in that way I could walk through what I was looking for and wanted. We worked with Darin who was fantastic btw! My husband and I sort of went through with what I was looking for which included plumbing fixatures for two bathrooms and a chandelier for our foyer. He was great gave us different options at different price points also he helped figure out what I was trying to explain (I told him I don't know all of the technical names of the things, but he was able to decipher) and help us think through what we needed. Darin super knowledgeable! Now a few other points of advice if you are a first timer, pictures of what you want to do helpful even if they are inspo photos, if you've got space measurements even better. Also, if you are thinking of changing out plumbing perhaps having your preferred plumber come out to give you an idea of materials required for your project (I opted to do it in reverse).

When I checked out on my last trip, the young gentleman at the register kept yawning and barely acknowledged me -- it came across as lacking basic manners and customer service. To make matters worse, a picture frame I bought turned out to be damaged in the corner when I unwrapped it at home. When I brought it back to return, the sales associate spoke to me in an accusatory tone and insisted that I had damaged it. I explained that I discovered the damage only after opening the packaging, but she refused to accept the return. Thankfully, I asked to speak with the Manager, who checked my receipt, realized I had purchased it just the day before, and resolved the situation professionally. I appreciated the manager stepping in, but the interaction should never have escalated to that point. Glad it was ultimately corrected, but the sales associate definitely needs better training in communication, customer courtesy, and how to handle returns without blaming customers.

Anyway...while he was at his appt., I decided to walk around the shopping center (FairLakes Promenade). I had seen Home Sense before but never got around to checking it out. Finally, got to do that today. At first glance, it looked like it was a furniture store. Yes, they have lots of furniture but a deeper look showed there was so much more. There are towels, bedding, kitchen utensils, household cleaning items, rugs and decorative items. My intention was just to look not buy. However, when I saw the food items, I realized that I needed a shopping cart. Things that caught my eye...imported pasta, pasta sauces, spices, sweets and a cleaning formulation for shower doors and mirrors. Truthfully, there were other items that attracted me but I exercised will power. For example, I saw a lovely vase but my sensible side said "we don't need another vase." There was artwork but sensible side said "We have enough of that and only so much wall space". When I went to check out, the cashier was friendly. I found out, when he tried to get me to sign up for a credit card, that they are part of a conglomerate that includes TJ Maxx. No, we don't need another credit card! My haul ended up costing $35 plus change. Once we were home, I showed my husband my haul. He asked what it cost and was pleasantly surprised. Aw, gee! I'm so proud of myself :D So, no regrets for paying Home Sense a visit!
