With the menu including salmon, Swedish meatballs, Mac n cheese, mashed potatoes with gravy, cranberry sauce, vegetable medley, vegetable medallion, chocolate cakes, and almond cakes...you're not paying more than a dub ($20 dollars) for all of this!! IKEA y'all...I'm at IKEA!! I know that YOU already know about their food court...I did too, I just haven't been here in a while. So when I herd that they incorporated meatless meatballs, I came through. When I tell you that $3.99 will get you a good and tasty 4 course meal from here...trust me! The Mac n cheese surprised me, via the texture not tasting like an out of the box Mac n cheese...it was actually fresh. Y'all everything was delicious, that $.79 chocolate cake and almond cake were rich and decadent. Located at near the exit of the store, there is a quick snack area where you can purchase pizza, frozen yogurt (pictured at $1.00) and other snacks. The $.75 veggie hot dog (they also have a $1.00 beef hot dog) was topped with a pink relish and crunchy onions and it was excellent!! I'm gonna preface by stating that I'm a very FREQUENT IKEA customer, and have been in a lot of locations. We're a military family, which means we move a lot, and routinely have our things packed and shipped by military contracted movers who are less than gentle and less than caring about how badly they beat up your stuff. Consequently, inexpensive furniture that doesn't have a lot of sentimental value and can easily be replaced when the inevitable mangling and gouging occurs is our jam. When we arrive at a new duty statiin, proximity to an IKEA is among the first things we check out. For what it is, it just works for our lifestyle. No illusions that it is premier quality, it is what it is and that works for us. Our house is like 90% IKEA at any given point. So, given that background, this might be the worst IKEA I've been in. I've been in several since the pandemic started that have managed to do a good job, so it's not the issue. This one has disappointed every time I've been there. It's set up in an aggravating manner, but this is to be expected with COVID precautions and I don't hold that against them. I generally think they do a great job with Covid precautions, which is why they got as many stars as they got from me. What I do think is a big problem is that their inventory is a *disaster.* We all get that supply chains are disrupted, of course. And I was willing to give some leeway the first time I went, because it was the weekend after Thanksgiving, when one anticipates picked over stock in the best of years. But it's been ongoing, and more than the supply being pretty weak across the board (half the items on display have out of stock tags, and not just the predictable stuff like home office furniture...but even that, come on...it's been months and months since people started setting up home offices en masse), it's that the inventory is unreliable. Things listed as sold out are often sitting on the warehouse, perfectly on stock, while items listed as in stock are nowhere to be seen. IKEA gives you the option of signing up for text notification when an own you are seeking has the stock replenished. This was the case with my kids' bed frames...but I never got the notifications I signed up for. I've also been notified that an item was back in stock, trekked in over (bit of a drive), and it's not in stock. My husband actually just recently had it happen where the inventory tags were TOTALLY WRONG. Like, looking for a table that is inventoried in stock, only to find a totally different table, and the actual table is a whole other lot number and double the cost. When asking for assistance on this problem, too, he got epic attitude. Which brings us to this.. the attitudes, too, are problematic. When I, or my husband, approach any retail or customer service associate, we are unfailingly polite and deferring. We are the epitome of Midwest Nice, for God's sake, we the sort of people who would knee-jerk apologize OURSELVES for a store being out of stock...like, "Ope, gosh, I'm so sorry to have to trouble you for assistance, I didn't mean to be looking for something you don't have, my bad!" Never belligerent or put out. But the associates here are suuuuuuuper rude. They are consistently out of particular finishes, which is not the individual store's fault, but again, poor system for communicating when inventory is back in stock. I've never had this pair at any other IKEA, before or during the pandemic. read more

IKEA! A DMV landmark (everyone knows the IKEA sign on 495). I've been to IKEA more in the past few weeks than I been ever. I have a love-hate relationship (more love than hate) because I haaaaate to walk through the whole damn maze of a store to find what I need ...okay, what I want because I don't really NEED majority of the stuff I find here. HOWEVER, it's one of my favorite places for storage and organization needs for my home and kitchen goodies. Glasses, collapsible containers, shelves, drawer organizers, woks and more. And, at more than reasonable prices! I bought a very nice ladder shelf that is now in my living room for $19.99! I don't buy as much "hardcore" furniture though. Is hardcore the word I'm looking for?? Hmm, I guess I'm saying I don't usually get my "core" or "main" furniture from IKEA. I can always tell when someone's furniture is from IKEA. It's not a bad thing, just not my preference. But, def a good option for those new to living on their own. Okay. I'm sure you've already found out by the photos and previous reviews that there's food. IKEA has a full blown cafeteria with hot food. AND, on the main level they have a snack stand that sells hotdogs, ice cream and cinnamon rolls. On a nice Saturday morning, you can smell the fresh cinnamon rolls. Yum! You can literally spend an entire morning here. If you're on this side of the beltway, visit IKEA. Walk around, take photos in the sample kitchens, eat lunch, buy some goodies and get a snack to go! read more

First off, we've been to the IKEA in College Park a few times. It is an interesting place to visit. However each time, (except this current time) we've come away with projects. And by we I mean by traveling partner finds things for me to build! So, as a public service (joking) I came up with these 8 simple rules to avoid IKEA projects! 1, Make sure your new home is more than an hour from the nearest IKEA. 2. Repair furniture correctly the first time. Duct tape will result in IKEA trips. 3. Embrace stacking - you don't need IKEA furniture if you stack things properly! 4. Remember that the siren's call of IKEA is those Swedish meatballs. Practice saying the following to your partner constantly! "I love Swedish meatballs, but they give me gas for three or four days afterward." Or, the variation of that which is "Swedish meatballs make me spend more time in the bathroom." Remember to mention this at least once a week until it is set! 5. Due to the nature of IKEA, you have to walk, make sure you have a leg or foot injury that is mentioned often! Walking is fun dear partner, but my leg is killing me! 6. Long-term play - this one has to be done a few times but is a guarantee to work once complete. Put things together wrong! Every single time you are asked, make sure it is not assembled correctly! 7. If these do not work, and you are forced to go to IKEA, the next recommendation is to move fast! Please do not stop, do not pass, go, do not collect 200 dollars (as IKEA gives you money, they are a money vacuum!) 8. Failing 1-7, there is one last-ditch excuse you can use! It is the insist on eating lunch before you walk the store. Then, begin to groan as the Swedish meatballs consume you. It is a desperate ploy and will only work one time! read more

I visit Ikea often when the season changes. They have so many cute stuffs for home decor with affordable prices! Ikea in College Park is where I shop the most. This location is well maintained and very clean. The return is super easy too! I am just so sad that they now have low inventory due to COVID. They are out of so many stuffs that I have been looking forward to buy :( Hope they had free online shipping.. Other than that, i love coming to Ikea :)! read more

Ikea is the cheapest place to get furniture, there's no doubt about that- but I feel comfortable also saying that its the cheapest (in quality) furniture that you can get. Ikea is all like " we don't cut corners", we build great furniture. Uh, yeah you cut corners. I bought two of the tables called "lack". They're small red tables and they're 12.99. They literally are made out of splinters. They are trash. You know how someone is like " yeah this a solid oak cabinet." This table is literally the opposite. I could say the table is made out of balsa wood splinters. Now luckily for me, I'm using these two tables in an outdoor living room set up for a marketing booth, but if you actually wanted to have them in your home; don't let anyone sit on it, put any moisture, or even look at it too hard. It will probably fall apart. It's made out of compressed SPLINTERS. You would think it's virtually unbreakable, cause its already broken. Also, don't even get me started on their dressers. Every single dresser they have, the bottoms of the drawers are made out of that awful pegboard materials. They couldn't have gotten any cheaper. Then you get to the good parts of Ikea. There's nothing wrong with cheap photo frames, or cooking utensils, or lamps. Nothing wrong with that. Or even their baskets or trash cans. So, I guess I'm a fan of the peripherals and accessories. Just not the furniture. I'm also not a fan of this whole mapping you around deal. If you follow the path upstairs, you'll be up there for at least a half an hour. So this time I decided to just skip upstairs all together. And I went backwards through the downstairs. Man was that confusing. Then when I couldn't find that table I wanted, I asked one of the Ikea workers who told me that I could ask the information desk but I really should go upstairs and find the number and bring it down. No thank you - I'd like to stay out of the upstairs maze- I've been stuck in the downstairs one for 20 minutes now. OF course whatever I bought had to be returned - this was the straw - I get to the return space and I am standing there clearly ready to return a very large item - and the two individuals didn't acknowledge me or anything - when one of them was ready to call a person they then acknowledge that I need to sign in to be seen I was standing there for at least 10 minutes - the kiosk to sign in is not in the same area and I didn't know I had to sign in. I used to be a fan of IKEA...until I needed support for a product I purchased from them. They make getting ahold of them a nightmare, and when you call and ask to discuss an order, their automated system says they're too busy and hangs up. But, when I tried dialing for SALES, someone picked up after two rings but just put me on hold until I couldn't stand being on the phone anymore. I just need a simple part replacement, and the fact this "global company" has such poor service means I won't be shopping there anymore. I have been an IKEA customer for many years. I have shopped in stores in both the United States and Canada, and have always felt their salespeople have been friendly. Yesterday, I was extremely disappointed by my experience. I had a return to make-one fitted sheet. The "express returns" line was being handled by one person. This was on a holiday-MLK day. She was horribly unprofessional and rude and after waiting in line for almost 30 minutes, the people in front of me who barely spoke English, were berated by this woman. She yelled at them that this was a return line for five items or less. How horrible for her to treat customers to her store. IKEA is a world-wide company and this location serves many people who speak many foreign languages due to its close proximity to Washington, DC. After witnessing this horrible behavior, it was my turn. I explained patiently that my credit card that I had used to originally purchase this product had been replaced due to identity theft recently from my bank. This customer service person rolled her eyes, wouldn't let me explain the situation fully to her, and yelled at me to call the bank. Meanwhile, there were about thirty people behind me in line. I proceeded to call the bank, per her instructions. Of course, the bank which issued the card was closed today because of the holiday. She was terribly rude and acted completely inconvenienced at having to call her manager over. She told her manager I refused to call my bank, when I clearly had them on the phone with the recording saying they were closed. I explained the situation to him and he allowed her to process my transaction with my new card that had been issued. After the transaction, upon noticing she was not wearing a name tag, I asked what her name was. She retorted " Reena. What you gonna do about it?" I was appalled! What person dealing with customers says something like this and still has a job? I had her call her manager again. It took another ten minutes for him to arrive and he seemed that he was not concerned at all with her behavior and the fact that they only had one line open to process returns. I explained that her behavior towards me and other customers was completely unacceptable, and not what I have ever seen in my thirty years of shopping at IKEA. I asked him if I could speak with his store manager that was on duty, and he refused to let me speak to whoever was on duty. He told me to write an email on the computer in the corner by the door. Ridiculous! I also mentioned that when in such a long line for "express return" service, there was no where for people who come by themselves, who may have a handicapping condition to sit. This entire experience left a terrible impression and makes me not want to ever patronize this IKEA location again. What a shame that IKEA allows its employees to behave in such a manner to their customers. read more

Plenty of free parking throughout the shopping center. It's across the street from Potbellys, Dunkin Donuts and Buffalo Wild Wings. Fun fact - this IKEA has several hundred square feet of solar panels on the roof. So this establishment is running on solar powers which is good for the environment. This IKEA has everything you need. From bedding to shelves to kitchen appliances to kitchen dishes and utensils. They even have live plants which is nice (located on the 1st floor). This IKEA is 2 floor levels with their showroom upstairs and you can pick up the items on the 1st floor. They also have a food court here on the 2nd level which is fairly cheap. Be sure to get a IKEA member card to get free tea / coffee with every visit. The card membership is free so it's a win win. Their food court is large and there are plenty of cold and hot dishes. Their portions are good too. If you have kids, they also have kids portions for a cheaper price. The decor in their food court tables are nice and gets a lot of natural lighting from the large windows throughout the building. If you plan to get bedroom / living room / kitchen furniture here, recommend you bringing a bigger vehicle in order to get everything that you need. Also, all their items needs to be manually installed. If you need assistance, they do offer services where they can built the furniture for you for a flat fee. So that helps though who need the assistance or just don't have the time to build the furniture. There is also a kids play room located on the bottom level. One thing I would improve is their customer service employees throughout the building. Felt like I had to run into circles to get the attention of a staff member when I had questions. Also, they should consider self checkout lines as lines tend to take a while especially on weekends and rush hour times. read more

I have a love/hate relationship with IKEA. I love their furniture, I hate putting it together. I love browsing their website for new items for my home, I hate their ridiculous shipping fees ($75 for 3 couch covers--- WTF!?). I love the easy to navigate layout of the store, I hate fighting the mob of people to get to the items I want. I love most of the friendly employees, I hate the 2 guys who were working the furniture pickup area today (major attitude alert!). Overall, IKEA is a great home store for people on a budget. You can get some pretty nice things for a fraction of what you would spend at other home/furniture stores. Oh, and the Swedish meatballs are pretty good, too! read more

I was in that go to ikea for inspiration mode today! Yes, I needed one or two items but sometimes I really just love walking around dreaming of what my house could become with the right Swedish Home decorator! Don't get me wrong I have several friends that devote their lives to spiky this got a living and I can text them my ideas at any moment but the way ikea does it just makes me happy!!! If you had the time you could literally spend a whole day inside of ikea they offer breakfast, lunch, and dinner and you can even take groceries home with you. They stand by the products they sell and I've only had one bad item that I had to return. I usually get odds and ends from IKEA being as though all my major furniture purchases come from Raymore and Flanagan. Either way I'm a big fan of ikea and you should be also. We had a horrible experience picking up our online order. The employee was incredibly rude and told me to read my email for instructions. The instructions said to come to the desk I was standing at. I told her this and she walked in the back to talk with another employee and use the computer back there so she didn't have to help me. It was VERY obvious that she had no desire to assist customers and my presence was not welcomed. I've been to this IKEA many times before and never been treated with such hostility right off the bat. This employee was rude and disrespectful to the point that my children were making comments. I asked another employee for help and she had me scan a QR code that did not load a website. I finally was able to "check in" on my phone through email. This employee was incredibly rude when I said my husband placed the order and we were on the way home to Pennsylvania. I quote "Are you SURE you are at the right location and he placed the order here?" Absolutely. I requested to speak with a manager. She ignored me. I again asked for a manager another four times. She then went to get my order. She told me that I could leave because I had my order and was upset when I wouldn't without speaking to a manager. She walked away from me. She came back and I asked " could I please talk to a manager?" She said she called but no one answered. This is curious given I could see her the entire time and she didn't pick up the phone. I then asked a young lady at the next desk if I could please speak to a manager. She said "absolutely, one moment". Within 20 seconds, a manager was in front of me. Literally, she was right around the corner. The manager spoke with me and my young children. It was clear that she didn't care at all what I had to say and that nothing will change. She said she spoke to her "coworker", but basically was not going to do anything. My daughter mentioned that the previous employee refused to let us talk to a manager and then lied and said she called one. The employee overheard this and was like "I called so and so". The manager waved at her to go away and then berated my child (8 yrs old) that we "aren't going to do that?" She had her hand in my child's face. It was abundantly clear that our pickup order was a huge inconvenience. Personally, none of these individuals should be in customer service if they don't want to actually serve customers. I've never been treated so poorly at IKEA or at this College Park location that we previously visited very often. I hope that changes are made because this was incredibly hostile and disrespectful. read more

Great selection of items and showrooms on display. The service however is just so lacking. Mark at wardrobe department was not helpful. Many items were out of stock. When I asked if I can look up on the self service terminal what items are at the other stores, he said it's not set up to do that. Well, that's inaccurate as one can change the store location and do a search. It's frustrating that in 2021, you can't place an order and pay for an item that is on back order. You have to come back to the store to place the order when the item is on site and schedule delivery. I ended up ordering online but because not all the items were available at the store I had to order from another store and pay for delivery twice. read more

This place is huge. I was a first timer yesterday. You can get lost in here. They have a secure play section for children so the parents can shop in peace, lol. You will find all of your home needs here from the kitchen to the bedroom. It's two levels created like a maze so you can see every section & end up at the checkout counters when you are done. I am very disappointed with IKEA. The delivery service is a complete mess. I recently bought several furniture pieces in Ikea (College Park) for more than $6,000. The delivery was scheduled originally for 9/16. I received the text messages confirming the delivery on that date and they just never came. I called them and they told me that they couldn´t deliver it and that it needed to be rescheduled... I rescheduled for the 20th and they just never showed up again. I had to call again and they told me that "it was ready to reschedule" and that the transportation company never had it rescheduled in its calendar for the 20th. Then, Ikea rescheduled it again. In total, I called 4 times and I am still waiting for my order to be delivered. And this is without saying that I had to empty my house by the 9/16 to be able to receive my new furniture pieces. Now, my kids don't have beds, and we don't have even a couch almost one week. Also, I had to take leave at work two days to receive the delivery that never arrived in two occasions. And on top, the contractors that I hire to assemble the furniture will be charging me for coming on multiple times when the Ikea order has not come yet. read more

I can't get enough of IKEA. It is easy to get lost in the building. It doesn't hurt to take a map or pay attention to the directions posted throughout the building. Take an order sheet with you, just in case something you want isn't on the shelf. You will need to write the product number down. Sometimes it is a challenge to find an employee, due to the size of the store. The cafeteria prices are reasonable. The IKEA free shopper card is supposed to allow customers to get a free coffee. I was wondering why this IKEA has 3 stars. It is IKEA and located in College Park read: always busy and chaotic, especially on a weekend. This store is rather large and sometimes it is easy to feel trapped because there is just so much packed into a small, beautifully decorated space. I have to say, I enjoy the "design cubes" that feature living in a 400sq ft space. Great ideas but I digress. I was looking for a simple desk and naturally walked out with everything other than a desk. Some of the desks felt/looked rather cheap and not worth the hassle of putting it together. IKEA does have amazingly affordable finds such as framed mirrors, storage boxes, vases, shelves, and even rugs. No disappointments here. Interacted with a few salespeople who helped me make sure I got the right pieces for the curtain railing. Do plan your trip wisely and sign up for the family card because you get discounts and coupons. read more

As usual, I know what it is I want before I arrive, so I don't go through the entire store as a field trip. I like the Kiosk towards checkout that aids in finding the product much more expedient than before the implemented them. I like the presence of the transport team so you don't have to wait around for assistance with moving heavy products. Speaking of which, when you're leaving & needs assistance loading into your vehicle, there is like 3-5 employees outside lending a hand like clockwork. As far as the IKEA Family offer, I signed up, received my information & when I returned the following weekend, my card member number wasn't working. With my return, I needed to return some items, & I like the less than 5 items rule to where you don't have to wait in the long line. The store is always clean & in order, as with most popular shopping stores, they could always use more cashiers or Self Check Out. Extra tidbit, each department I shop in, it's very good that the employees are well versed & can answer my inquiries without skipping a beat. It would be great to get a location a little north and of course way before Bmore's location...until the auto journey is worth the trip. read more

One star speaks specifically to IKEA's weird business model that doesn't allow individuals to directly contact a local store (without going to the physical location), as well as my suspicion that they will sell an item to someone in-store even when that product is promised to someone else and was placed, paid for, and given a delivery date for weeks ago. I placed an order for a large sectional as a gift - this order was placed on August 4th and scheduled for delivery on August 26th. The three-week waiting period is not an issue at all, and expected even. Just today, August 21st, I received an email stating that a couple of items (which turned out to be a majority of the couch) were out of stock and immediately refunded. Ultimately, a small piece of couch turns out to be pretty useless. So, I call to check out why the product is out of stock - was it always out of stock and it should have been marked as backordered(?), is the product out of stock and never being restocked(?), and most importantly, how was I able to purchase an item that was in stock three weeks ago and it goes out of stock five days before delivery. Hence, my suspicion that even though I was charged for this product and already had a planned delivery, the store does not hold the sold product or set it aside and instead, sells it in-store and notifies the anxiously anticipating online customer. Very pleasant and sweet, but no one I spoke to has ever been to an IKEA, none of them have access to an IKEA store's phone number, and none of them can explain how I can have a guarantee that, if I place an order in the future, the same thing won't happen. The couch itself was beautiful and comfortable and a great value (I know this from an Airbnb experience having one, even slept on it for the night and super comfy). It's too bad I simply won't be able to ensure I can ever have this item, being that it could show up as in stock, be out of stock by the time I arrive at the store, and there's no one to contact to say "I'm coming in to buy this specific couch, please give me two hours to get there!" Oh and, all things considered, even if I did make it to the store with it all in stock, I'd only trust having my own rental moving truck to get it delivered. read more

Do Not Shop Here! At least do not do the Click and Pick-up. I was met by each IKEA employee with a range of reactions from lazy to combative, and with plenty of surly and arrogant thrown in. But in their defense, much of this is IKEA's fault and not the employees. The website said I could pick up my display case anytime between 7:00 and 8:00 PM. (The fine print said to wait for me to get a message. But then why tell me "between 7:00 and 8:00 PM?") Regardless, when I showed up at 7:00 PM, all they had to do was send a guy to get my order. Simple as that. How many other places do just that? Well, all of them. Every single one. But not at IKEA. They would not budge from whatever their system is. I mean, I had to sit there for forty-five minutes, watching them bring out orders for people WHO WERE NOT EVEN THERE, as I was. And the first IKEA guy walked away from me, to go on break. The next person, a woman, basically yelled at me for looking back at the loading area. She said, "Your order will not come here." And of course, my order, and the dozen that came before it, came exactly there. Then they told me that between 7:00 and 8:00 PM means whenever they want. Basically, for forty-five minutes, the IKEA people urinated on my head and told me it was raining. I mean, seriously, if you go to Crate and Barrel or to Macy's and say, "I'm here to pick up my order," they go and get it. IKEA is like the seventh circle of hell. Avoid it at all costs. read more

I'm not sure about all the bad reviews. However, I also don't go to IKEA expecting to have the best dining experience. This is a furniture/home goods store, not Benihana. I digress. I also see people concerned about the "maze" set up... that's literally how all IKEAs are set up. I like this IKEA just as much as I like the rest of them. Items are organized in an aesthetically pleasing way. Finding what I wanted in the market place area was simple and hassle free. Check out was also hassle free. I got a 6 drawer dresser; two retro beside tables; tool kit; microwave cover; mixing device and a dish brush for under $300. Happy Camper. read more

Another successful visit. We left with some storage items that have motivated my youngest to reorganize her bedroom. That's a win in itself! I also found a daybed that was shown as a sofa in the bedroom section and I fell in LOVE! It is part of the hemnes line and it's amazing. The reviews discuss some difficulties when making it into a full size bed and when using the trundle. I plan to use it primarily as a sofa with storage space. I'm returning to order that! Tip: if you cannot find something, ask! The items we wanted had no black or white versions in the self service area, though the displays were there. The colors we wanted were in the bedroom section. 4 stars, because the fixed the monumental mess that Ikea.com made of my order. TL;DR: Do NOT order from the Ikea website. Get your items in store or arrange for the store to deliver your items. The website faction is so unfathomably disorganized and, according to them, they are "not exactly" affiliated with Ikea stores... whatever that means. I ordered two cabinets and a desk and paid extra to have the items delivered into my home (not just to my door), because I live on a 3rd floor walk-up. The delivery company gave me a 12 hour delivery window, and narrowed it down to 4 hours on the day before delivery. I was also informed that the drivers would call about 30 minutes before delivery to let me know that they were on the way. Delivery day comes and I get a call at the top of the delivery window from the delivery company saying that they arrived. No heads up call (if they'd called, I would have informed them about the parking restrictions in y neighborhood due to street cleaning.). Rushing to avoid a ticket they put my items anywhere in the house, instead of where I requested, and in their haste, they forgot to deliver the primary piece of my desk. Since there were so many boxes, and since I was taking my time assembling it, it was almost a month before I noticed the oversight. I called Ikea customer service and it took multiple times to finally talk to a person. They offered to refund half of my delivery fee and have the piece shipped out ASAP from their delivery facility, via FedEx. I asked if the same delivery terms that I originally paid for (delivering it into my home) still applied, and was told that that it would, but that I had to call FedEx to coordinate it. No problem. I did so, and provided them my contact info to give tot eh driver, yet somehow I got an email 36 hours later from FedEx confirming the "delivery" of my package. They had dropped it off at the front door outside of my building (I did mention that I live on a third-floor walk-up) where someone could have stolen it. Luckily, a neighbor walked by and helped me haul this heavy-ass thing up the steps. Imagine my frustration when I open the box and find that the furniture has been dinged and damaged: one of the metal rails had been completely ripped out of the wood. That was the last straw. I called customer service again and all they offered were excuses and what they could *not* do. The "best" option they could offer is the exact same situation I was just in. Toss it back to FedEx for another delivery that would likely be left at my door, just as before. After literal hours (cumulative) of being on the phone with these people and going nowhere fast, I decided to take matters into my own hands and take the item back to the store myself and get this whole thing sorted. Fortunately, there were ergonomically designed carts in the customer service/pick-up areas that kept me from having to lift this heavy box and carry it inside. I wheeled it to customer service, explained the nightmare that has been this whole process, showed them pictures of the damage and told them that I just wanted my desk. The two girls in customer service were able to process my return in a reasonable amount of time (given that one of the girls was fairly new and relatively unfamiliar with the system) and within about 20-25 minutes, I finally got the piece I was missing. I've always loved the ergonomic designs Ikea churns out, but this whole experience has made me leery of buying from them again. However, if I do, I will be sure to make my purchase from the store. read more

I had fond memories of IKEA as the place to furnish a dorm room or apartment with some stylish but affordable pieces. Unfortunately, in recent years I have noticed a sharp decline in the quality of their products and service. Recently, I tried ordering a simple bookshelf for pickup. The store somehow got the pickup date wrong, and told me to pickup on a day I was not free and did not have a vehicle. I called the store and was told I would have to reschedule online. IKEA's agents told me not once but twice that the pickup date was rescheduled. But a few days later, I got an email saying my order was cancelled and refunded anyway. When I contacted customer service, they said there was nothing they could do. Why is buying a shelf this difficult? read more
