After moving away for 10 years I am so flipping delighted to have the option of IKEA down the street. Of course not everything is a good deal, but the options, the ideas, the food! It may take a little hunting but you can find basically always find what you need here. Although the store may seem overwhelming initially, they make it so easy to gather items at the end. They have consulting that can help you plan a whole room or even house. For families, it is nice place to take the kids here on a stormy day, it's so family friend and you can easily grab some cheap grub from the restaurant. I also find that they have an awesome plant section for really affordable prices. Lastly, don't miss out on the as-is room for the real deals. It's been a few years since I've been to this location and I did have to take a star off because it's a big more rugged and weathered than I remember. They need to do a nice lil deep clean - some display areas were so dirty I wondered if they have ever updated the design. read more

I am going to review the "Swedish Restaurant" at the IKEA... It was on a Tuesday, not everything was available, but after asking a few questions, we made some decisions. I had the Cod dinner which came with peas and mashed potatoes and gravy and a drink. My son got the Chicken tenders with mac-n-cheese. We also added two slices of garlic bread. And we added a chocolate cake and a carmel crunch cake. The only reason I couldn't give 5 stars were the fact that several of the tables were dirty and it took us awhile to find clean ones. But - all of the food was just great! So good. It was like dining at a local diner or hole-in-the-wall place offering some good comfort food. I enjoyed the cod and veggies so much. Drinks are free refills and there are plenty of options. The desserts are great - so don't skip out! read more

Going to ikea on a Sunday was always a risky move, but we figured we were in the area for one we have not been to, why the heck not. We usually frequent the one in Schaumburg and it's a much different layout than this one but still the same maze to walk through. We found parking rather easy and close to the front when we went which was exciting. As we walked through, it was super unorganized. Pricing for things were so hard to find because the arrows and items were pointing to things that weren't correct. We saw trash all over the place and the sales people that were there to help were on everyone to help them build things. They did have plenty of staff and I think I only noticed because I kept getting ask how they can help me as I was trying out chairs for an accent chair. The restaurant/cafe overlooked the parking lot and hard great huge windows which was refreshing to see. As we continued downstairs, for the self service we visited the as is section and it was rather empty minus a few things but again tons of staff around. My reason for docking stairs were based on my interactions with the staff, every time I asked a question or where the closest bathroom is they were rather rude and couldn't be bothered to answer. The bathroom question got answered with follow the signs (of which I did but still couldn't find, because of the construction curtains). Also I was a bit iffy on the folks serving the food in the bistro by checkout. They just threw the food on the counter, did not change gloves between prepping and ordering food for people and it was an overall mess. Needless to say, we were able to find what we were looking for and made notes for us to order online as they didn't have any of the items we needed in stock. We visited Sweden a few months ago and made a point to go the IKEA Museum, so I came in with fresh appreciation to my first visit in a long time to an American IKEA. I don't know how this is possible given the number of times I had previously been to IKEA, but this was my first time dining at their on-site restaurant. They have TWO different vegetarian options. We went with the Plant Balls, which were really tasty. The employee at the cafeteria counter definitely seemed disengaged and haphazardly slapped our food on our plate, but hey, it didn't affect the quality. I also think they were supposed to put a little flag on our food to identify it as vegan because the cashier seemed confused that this was missing. They have a limited grocery selection toward the end of the store, and we stocked up on a few vegetarian options - and even grabbed a Christmas advent calendar for the upcoming season. There is a nice mix of value in the store. You can grab some things at lower price points, but they do have items that lean more high end as well. read more

Updated review: I've changed my review from 1 to 3 stars, as I went to this location in person and finally got refunded for the $800 of missing merchandise that online/phone customer service kept saying they'd refund but never did for months. I'm grateful for the in-person staff making this issue right. I will still never order online for delivery after my experiences, but I will consider shopping in store or doing store pick up. Original review: Completely unethical. They did not deliver $835 worth of merchandise on an order from this store to be delivered to my house. For months now, I have followed up to get this refunded. I have chat transcripts from 10 different agents and also spoke to many more on the phone all promising to handle this and get me my refund. They never did. I filed a dispute with my credit card and they submitted false evidence from other refunds I got for completely different returns. I am flabbergasted that such a large company whose products I used to love could be so unethical and steal money from loyal customers. Never again will I shop here. There are serious systemic unlawful practices going on. I may look into legal action, but I'm also so drained by how many hours they've made me fight to get back the money they stole from me. read more

Hmm....I feel that Ikea has really dropped in everything the last several years. The food, the service, the furniture, the store ans the quality. Like we went to the little food area for 2 hot dogs and they were absolutely disgusting, the pretzel was gross, service was not good but I gave 2 stars for the blue slushie. At least that was decent. Couldn't find anyone for help and when we locate someone, they look like they hate their job and don't want to answer your questions. Not one Ikea employee but 2 and 3 were the same I hate my job attitude. Everything was out of stock and no wonder people stop buying cheap furniture at Ikea. Back then, at least something was great. We frequently find many things we "needed" around the house, and even some things we didn't realize we needed but their foreign names convinced us to buy them (hellooooo möveraerå!). Moreover, we got dinner in their cafeteria that definitely did not have stains on a dozen coffee mugs before we found two to sip from, our eyes tired and glazed from toddler life. A disgrace to the Ikea brand. The display areas were filthy, and falling apart. There was merchandise on the floor, and generally a mess. The restaurant was out of some things at 1PM, the food was cold and overpriced, and when we complained, the manager tried to blame us for cold food, and the big black lump in the middle of my mashed potatoes. They took our money for fountain sodas, only to find out the soda machine had been broken for quite a while. I think the health department should pay a visit here. It's been about a decade since I shopped at IKEA, but my daughter really wanted to redecorate her room by herself and without any help. She shopped for stuff online, measured everything, and presented a list all from here. An entire bedroom of furniture for only $1000. Will it last forever? No, it's IKEA, but she's a kid. -She won't want this furniture yrs from now anyway. So here we are. Redoing her whole room for $1000. That's a great price. IKEA is great for what it is. The furniture is economical as long as you don't mind putting it together yourself and you like minimalistic stuff. It's a very simple esthetic. Since she loves modern, this works well. But don't expect help from employees. I never see them anywhere except for checkout. Well, we walked the entire store. Found the items we needed. When to the Check out lane and employee told us to come to her register. She ask me; "Are you paying cash?" I said "NO." She replied oh then you have to use the self check out. I said but you have a register with a credit swiper on it. She said well I only do cash payments. So I told her so you're refusing to ring me up on this sale. She said Yes sir. She was very polite about it. I told the young lady I will have to leave my merchandise here. I do not work here and I'm not getting paid to do your job. I left I know it isn't her fault but how many more customers walked away because their employees are told Don't ring them up. IKEA is a great place to visit if you're going on a weekday or something. On a weekend or holiday, it would easily be a 1 star. On a weeknight, it's not busy and you can explore all the rooms and sections comfortably. They also have a food court but I don't usually eat there, since there are tons of local restaurants nearby. Employees were pleasant and helpful. I've only purchased some of the smaller items and they were very decent. Huge parking lot. read more

We attended the All Hearts Day Dinner. For 2 people it was under$45 and included appetizers, entrees, and desserts as well as drinks. Food was very high quality and all delicious. The upstairs service is so unbelievably lazy. I went to go pick up a vanity (because Amazon delivery fees have gone up astronomically high due to tariffs) for my bedroom. I live fairly far. I lap around the second floor three times before finally settling on one of the 4 options they have for a vanity. All white trying to find an actual mirror. I take a picture of the desk/vanity tag so I can go and pick up the pieces to build it and buy it. As I finally find my way to the actual pieces, I'm looking for the certain aisle and bin it said it was in. Not there. I ask an employee where it was, it was "moved" to the next aisle over. I finally find the drawer part. I pick up the two pieces needed. On the tag I took a picture of the aisle placement was wrong. First confusion. I go and get the table part. Sold out. Literally says on sale. Originally $50 now $40. I ask the same employee if they have any in stock. He proceeds to tell me "no, we haven't in a very long time. I've been telling the second floor employees to work on it but they're so lazy." I proceeded to ask about different locations where they had the entire set, only in Schaumburg (40 minutes away). I asked about delivery options, and he proceeded to tell me that the delivery fee will be the same as the price of the vanity ($220). It would also take A MONTH TO SHIP because the warehouse had a FIRE. So mad. read more

8 people in the assisted checkout (there was only one cashier checking people out) and at least 10 waiting for self checkout. Both lines are growing. Yet they don't open another checkout. And the self checkout was 12 items or fewer, and of course this time I had more than that. And wouldn't you know it, they opened a check-out once I was at the front of the line! But it's not just the checkout that gives me hives. Putting IKEA furniture together is enough to cause a divorce, 100%. I refuse to believe that trying to assemble something from IKEA that seemed like such a deal when it was purchase has not been the straw that broke the camel's back in a fragile romantic coupling. Actually, I think it could make a good motive in a thriller, too; that self-assembly of a complicated IKEA item led someone to violence. Bolingbrook is a smaller store than Schaumburg, by an entire floor. When you enter and see the map, it's somewhat confusing, because the "you are here" sticker is aligned with the second floor, not the first. I felt like the store map was gaslighting me about where I existed within it, trying to get me disoriented literally steps from the front door. Truth be told, it almost worked. For my part I stick with items that don't need assembly (silverware, a salad bowl, that sort of thing) or that need incredibly minimal assembly. On this trip I came solely for two plant stands--one to hold my plants, the other, shorter one to hold my humidifier. The latter is simply a folding item and the larger is an adorable piece of which I had purchased and assembled one the week prior in about 20 minutes or so. However, I also had the bright idea to purchase a small bench to put in my bedroom and that one was more frustrating, since the angles and whatnot would be easier with two people. But I made it through, in about an hour, and that exhausted my IKEA assembly patience. And the last screw is going to be out since it doesn't fit in the piece (this is the second time I've had this happen with IKEA furniture; when I swore of IKEA years ago it was because of a desk with a piece drilled incorrectly, which required a much too complicated process to get resolved). Hopefully that screw isn't structural. (That's a joke!) The items I went there for (a plant stand, some forks...) were available for curbside pick-up, but a second, smaller plant stand I wanted was not. But ok, I get it, when you're low on inventory it's safer to say you can't get it curbside. But I have to say it was really annoying when I found the plant stand (at the VERY END of the one-way maze they send you through to get you to buy a bunch of shit, which worked--I ended up with several more items than I went there for, and now amongst other things I need to get some use out of my new ice bucket) and there were literally dozens of them. I mean the stack came nearly to my chin. IKEA, you couldn't let me pick this up curbside?? What may have been the biggest surprise is that IKEA has a respectable houseplant section. It includes both the plants themselves and plant accessories like pots, tools, and so on. If you're looking for plants and want to subject yourself to IKEA, it could be a joint stop (though I'd suggest one of the fantastic plant shops in the city and suburbs I'd you can swing it!). read more

Ikea is about 45 minutes from my home and I try to make a trip 1-2 times yearly. I arrived today at opening, got a park near the entrance, walked into a store without a crowd which I Love. I was able to take my time and browse, I picked up a few new things. The store was well stocked and nice and clean. I got to stop by the food court for the swedish meatballs that were very good, but skip their sodas they were flat and just not good. I was ready to checkout by 1230 there were only 2 lines open and self check out so lines were pretty long, other than that this trip was great and I will be back in 6 months! read more

I can't say this was ALL staff however 1 staff member was very rude and as much as I don't want to say racist it really seemed like directing us to the end of the line was racially motivated. STOCKHÖLM SŸNDROME You could easily get lost forever inside this behemoth purveyor of Swedish goods. While not quite as large -- or as cool -- as its sibling store in Schaumburg, the Bolingbrook version still has all the inexpensive home furnishings you seek (well, 97% of them, anyways). Kitchenware, area rugs, bunk beds, coffee tables.....you name it! I've purchased a few things from this place over the years and found the selection of items nearly unbeatable. Most of my apartment is IKEA products, from the bedframe & slats to the glass topped desk, dining table + chairs, barstools and bookshelves. The quality is very high and the cost is surprisingly low. Though I haven't eaten inside their in-store restaurant in some time (located smack dab in the middle of the expansive building), I recall a few meals shared with my mom back when I'd bought things for my freshman year at Purdue. The meatballs with lingonberry sauce were tasty and insanely cheap. ((( fun fact: they actually take a financial loss on their food, but it's outweighed by keeping shoppers inside the building as they spend more money than they would if they left the premises for lunch or dinner. ergo the "feelings of affection" by a victim/shopper toward their captor/store. review title looks pretty clever now, eh?? ))) If that wasn't enough, there's a spot for quickie eats after checkout where you can get a hot dog for 50¢ (fifty cents holy sh*t!!!) and a cinnamon roll or medium Icee for a dollar. I'm pretty sure a slice of pizza costs like $1.25, which is ridiculously inexpensive and makes me chuckle every time. Navigating around the store can be a bit of a challenge. If you just follow the taped arrows on the floor you *should* be okay, but that doesn't guarantee your escape. There lies a small chance you'll be trapped somewhere in a bathroom exhibit and get locked in overnight. GPS won't help you here, pal! Employees have been friendly in finding what I needed. The greeter at the store was all smiles and so were my girl and I upon exiting with an $8 casserole dish and a $30 entryway table. .....maybe it's because I'm a mechanical engineer, or maybe it's because I'm partially insane, but I get a kick out of assembling their furniture. I will *happily* build your IKEA purchases (that was actually one of my most popular pickup lines in college....."hey baby you need your cabinets built? lemme holla atchu") Great place, really. A step down from the Schaumburg monster perhaps but still your #1 go-to place for buying dorm room accessories and kickass stuff for homes and apartments. This is how IKEA shopping works: walk thru mock rooms for inspiration, start to amass items, STOP for a healthy, home-cooked lunch. Dive back in, descend to the knick-knack area, fill shopping cart with brilliant products that solve clutter and space issues. STOP. Use the elevator to return to the restaurant for a relaxing coffee and pastry break. Finally, head towards the cash registers and pickup a 6-pak of cinnabuns. When done properly, a trip to IKEA is like a good meditative Me day, where I feel pampered and inspired. It's exciting to make my home more efficient and more attractive without remodeling. Even a $10 floorlamp can change a space from nothing to a reading nook. read more

Ahhh IKEA! Land of meatballs and build-it-yourself furniture. Any day is a good day that includes a trip to IKEA. I already wrote a restaurant review so taking that in to account I couldn't rate this lower than a 4 star because even if I don't buy anything while here, I always eat a plate of meatballs and mashed potatoes and I always leave satisfied. The shopping at this IKEA is on the 1st floor with the displays and restaurant on the second. I always follow the line through the store, but they do make it easy to jump from section to section through their secret passageways (they're just easy to miss, but if you look along the walls you'll spot one). And outside of the fact that I always buy wooden hangers here because they're so beautiful and so affordable, I never actually come here for anything in particular but have left with everything from new dinnerware to a modern looking cat litter tray because that feels more authentic to my cat's personality. I only ever run into employees when checking out and when in the restaurant and they all seem nice enough, but not really that helpful so if you forget something don't expect them to know where that's located or to even call for someone to bring it to you. As a whole though, I love going to this IKEA and it always becomes this grand adventure of finding the most unnecessary things to buy that are now essential to my being. read more

Whenever we visit a different state than the one we live in we make it a habit to visit IKEA if that city has one. We were really excited about seeing what they had, as well as getting our new Pride bag from there. I must say that in comparison to our IKEA, this one looked a mess. Our IKEA is very aesthetically pleasing. The areas are decorated nicely. This one just looked like they put some furniture on display, and that was it. We have a huge assortment of live plants in our IKEA. I didn't see too many in this one. I wish I would have read the other reviews about going to the Schomburg location instead.
