This place was a saviour during rush hour traffic last night. There was a blizzard that was making it impossible to get anywhere on the roads, so my mom and I decided to meet here to wait it out and let everyone else get home before we got back on the roads. There were only 2 other tables with patrons at them. Which was an odd sight... I've never seen it empty before. What really impressed me was that none of the employees appeared to be taking advantage of the lack of customers. They weren't sitting around goofing off. They were still working... and finding things to do. It seemed like there were 2 new employees being trained, and I could hear the more experienced employees walking with them around the restaurant, explaining how the table numbers worked and stuff like that. Our server, Art, was very attentive and VERY funny. He made our time quite enjoyable. We weren't actually all that hungry, but we ordered some apps to much on while we waited. I don't usually ask for substitutions, but since they weren't busy I figured Why Not? And they had no problem with that. It was a very nice way to unwind from a stressful commute. read more

So bad. We were in Edmonton for the weekend and looking for a place to have breakfast on Saturday morning. After a delicious meal the night before, I wanted some comforting breakfast food to start my day. We saw the IHOP sign and sped over - after eating there in LA & Palm Springs, I was pretty excited to see one in Edmonton. It was around 10AM, so I knew it would be busy, but we ended up waiting almost 30 minutes, which was definitely not worth it. Once we were seated, we were greeted by the most AWKWARD server! We could hardly hear him because he was mumbling, and seemed like he didn't know what he was doing. Whatever, no big deal, we'll just order and eat. I'll start with our drinks. The coffee = gasoline. It was the strongest, most pungent, disgusting coffee I have ever had. The aftertaste was that of lighter fluid. It was awful. Usually I can pretty much drink whatever kind of coffee is around when I need my caffeine fix, but this was just BRUTAL. I stuck with my water for most of my meal. I ordered an omelet and my boyfriend ordered a potato-eggs-bacon dish, which was all mixed together and topped with sour cream and chives. It actually looked really good. My omelet, however, was topped with grated bagged cheese THAT WAS STILL COLD. I mean seriously! You couldn't at least melt the cheese? It was cold, bland, and pretty much awful. My boyfriends meal wasn't too bad, I snuck a few bites and I liked it (although it could be the fact I've been on a low-carb diet and it was the first time I'd had potatoes in a while), but nothing extraordinary. The only thing I liked was the pancakes that came with the meal, but even they didn't come with butter because it fell off the plate when the server brought it to our table (then it just sat on the floor beside us). When we were getting ready to settle the bill, the table next to us was being cleared and the same server asked them if they had room for dessert. When he walked away we all laughed - who the hell eats dessert at 11AM? For breakfast? Lol it was really awkward. Basically, don't waste your money here. My first visit was a week ago, on a Sunday. This was a trip to satisfy my curiosity about this chain. I think the hostess needs to be more attentive. She looked completely zoned out into lala-land, oblivious of hungry and waiting customers. She somehow had lost the waiting list. It took me locating the manager and saying, "Look, she's told us to come back in 40 minutes. We went shopping and came back. I just want to know where we are on the waiting list." (It was frustrating) Cheap and big portions. If you're both a food lover and an economics geek, the utility curve goes down at the end of your meal as your food gets cold. Coffee tasted like decaf or watered down coffee. (Oh, I get it! IHOP's got limited coffee beans!) It's funny because it was served in the decaf bottomless pot; the server said, "That's regular coffee." I had the spinach and chicken crepe, served with hollandaise sauce. The hollandaise sauce was borderline passable, but only with the help of a bottle of ketchup. The first crepe was not bad. My fiance had french toasts. You can't screw french toasts up. It's a safe choice. We probably won't be rushing back. There are better places to have affordable breakfasts in the city on a Sunday: for example, Koffee Cafe (in Millwoods), Duggan's Boundary Irish Pub. The last time I went to an IHOP was over 5 years ago (in the Vancouver area). It was the best waffles I have ever eaten. When I found out IHOP was opening here in Edmonton I was pretty excited. I've put off going until now (today) because with a restaurant just opening up brand new, there are always kinks to work out. Pretty much every table was taken. It was a pretty busy night. I was seated at my table and after three minutes a man (who I'm going to assume is the supervisor) asked me if I had been asked for a drink. I said no (I didn't say I had just sat down). He took my drink order and I also gave him my food order since I was already ready. I ended up ordering the stuffed french toast meal (comes with hasbrowns, eggs, bacon). I didn't order the waffles I had because I didn't want to crush my memory if it turned out to be not as good as I remembered. I waited about 20 mins for my food to arrive (I was told 10-15 mins). Because it was so busy it's understanding to have it take a little longer. I found my meal quite pleasant. I really enjoyed the scrambled eggs which was very creamy. While eating my waitress asked me three times how everything was (which I usually find annoying.... I like to eat in peace) but I suppose it shows that they are being attentive. Although my experience was good, I noticed that I received, ate, and left before two tables around me even received their food (they were sitting down before I got to my table). I'm going to assume my food came much earlier because my order was taken by the supervisor and that I was a table of one while the other two tables were four. Tasty breakfast times! A buddy and I went on Sunday morning at about 11am. Naturally it was packed, but fortunately the wait was only 10 minutes or so. Once we got seated, we were greeted by a helpful and friendly server. He took our order, and our food came within 15-20 minutes (which is pretty good considering every table was occupied). The food was great! Everything tasted fresh and didn't seem like it had been sitting under a heat oven or anything. My wife and I first tried IHOP in Vancouver in 2009 and absolutely loved it. The food was great (especially when compared to Humpty's or Denny's), the prices good and the service quick and friendly. When we saw the sign that one was under construction here in Edmonton, we were understandably excited that there would be more variety when taking the family out for breakfast. We went on a Sunday morning and got seated within maybe 10 minutes - probably because there were only three of us. Within seconds of sitting down, a waitress took our drink order, and when she came back a few minutes later, took our food order too. We had an omelet, an order of stuffed french toast and a elephant ears (recommended by the waitress). The omelet was great, fluffy, and stuffed full of meat, cheese and veggies. The hash browns were crispy but not greasy. The stuffed french toast was, I have to admit, amazing. The elephant ears were basically a deep-fried lump of dough like a donut. It was okay, but incredibly sweet and I had to force myself to finish off the leftovers. When I compare it to Denny's or Humpty's, I don't think either is close. The food is better, the service friendlier and the prices the same. IHOP, of course, is all about pancakes, but the savoury food on the menu is great too. It's a super popular place, so if you're going on a weekend, expect to wait (just like at Denny's on Sundays). Some people here have complained about the wait times, but honestly, if it wasn't any good, people wouldn't wait- they'd get up and go somewhere else. Any place worth going to is probably going to be busy on weekend mornings, so why be upset about it? Call ahead and ask them to put your name on the list and while you may still have to wait, it won't be for as long. Fortunately for fans of IHOP, they are planning on building more locations in Edmonton over the next few years, so as they build more, perhaps the lineups will shrink a bit. I can't wait - I hate driving from the northside! If I could - I'd rate IHOP as 4.5 stars - deducting .5 only for the fact that I drive so far to enjoy it. read more

We've been to ihops a number of times now, and I've been meaning to write a review on a particular meal, but since we've been there a number of times now i'll review our experience altogether. Anytime you go, you can expect a wait. There's only one location in edmonton so i suspect that this will not change, however, while they wont take reservations they will take your name over the phone on the waiting list. So with us living 40 minutes away we call as we're leaving the house so when we get there we only wait about 2 mins. Hubby loves their steak tips breakfast and my 6 year old likes there design your own face pancake....i myself love their spinach and mushroom omelette with hollandaise sauce. Their dishes come with a side stack of pancakes, and i always upgrade the extra 2 dollars for the cinnastack, which is amazing! We have also tried their lunch items such as a chicken salad but have been completely disappointed with the quality of chicken being grissly and rubbery and the lettuce old and wilted. Clearly breakfast is the meal to stick to for ihops. But waiters are always smiling and prompt even when the restaurant is packed. service is friendly and they accomodate requests very willingly. read more

Well I am visiting from Halifax,Nova Scotia and this was my 1st time here. The one thing that my family and i noticed was how courteous the staff were .we were seated and our waiter David (Hippo) was just amazing, he started with a great smile and it only got better..He brought my son a Chocolate Milk that he decked out and added a cherry ,For me my Java was the best decked out with a chocolate engraved saying. When our food arrived i was amazed we all had something different and i will post some pics of it for you all to see,It was all so tasty and just what we ordered. I am usually prepared for the wait so we go over to Canadian Tire for the wait, which is usually about 40 mins on the weekend. The last time we went my daughter was given one crayon so I asked for more and she was given one more. I thought this was ridiculous. The food was good as always. I love that they have turkey bacon as I don't eat pork and I usually have an egg white omelette with the pancakes. I eat half and the rest is the next days breakfast! We have never had a bad meal. On our way out I complained about the crayons and I was told that they don't reuse their crayons (my daughter's crayons were very used). I called the head office and was told that they would look into the situation. If you are bringing kids you may want to bring your own crayons! read more

I went to IHOP after hearing great things from a friend...I ordered the "Split Decision", which is two eggs, two strips of bacon, two corners of french toast, and three buttermilk pancakes. My wife had scrambled eggs with french toast (this version was stuffed with cream and had strawberries on top). My mom had a spinach and cheese omelet with three blueberry pancakes on the side. The bottomless coffee was not very good and the pancakes were undercooked. Overall the meal was passable but certainly not worth the 45 minute wait for a table. read more

Amazing choices for eggs, pancakes, crepes etc. Also healthier food choices. The food tasted excellent esp. my whole wheat blueberry pancakes. I had been hearing mixed reviews about Edmonton's IHOP, but I really wanted to go. When I went in Kelowna it was a great experience, and I've been craving the fluffy IHOP pancakes ever since. We walked in around lunchtime on a Friday and there was a 50 minute wait for a table. Luckily, we had to pop out and run an errand, so we were back just in time to be seated. After getting a table on the side, we were immediately given a jug of coffee and our waitress took our drink order. To say the place was a bit chaotic is an understatement. It's still very busy, with many people hanging about the front, eying down tables. There were families, friends, and groups in any space manageable, and we needed to shift our table back a foot or two just so that my friend had a bit of space to breathe. Our waitress was friendly, and as attentive she could be in the madhouse which is IHOP, but she took our orders and was on her way. After waiting about a half hour we got our meals. My eggs weren't the sunny side up eggs I had asked for, and the waitress realized it moments after putting the plate on the table. But eggs are eggs, and we were hungry so we ate. A perk of IHOP is that there are four different syrups for you to apply to your pancakes. I'm partial to strawberry, but there is also blueberry, butter pecan, and your standard syrup. Our food was standard, nothing amazing... but the pancakes left a lot to be desired. Overall, the experience was okay, but nothing I will rush back to repeat. read more

I don't come here very often, but it's reliably busy and reasonably quick so that's a bonus. The cost is really quite good for the volume of food that you're receiving and if you like breakfast or brunch foods there is a good amount of options to choose from. I find that the omelets are a bit odd in that many of the toppings are more like garnishes on top of the egg rather than inside of it but that's really a small criticism all in all. Be prepared to wait a bit especially if you come on a Saturday or Sunday morning, but I think that's where some of the appeal of this place lies. read more

Omelettes and pancakes are hard to screw up, so I have moderate expectations. I was blown away by some of the new menu options ie. the bacon temptation omelette and red velvet pancakes... OK! There were a lot of people sitting and waiting so she took our names, told us the wait time (which was 20 minutes) and we sat down and looked at the menu. I noticed the waiting area was pretty big which was nice so we didn't have to stand around. The menu has all breakfast, lunch and dinner... kinda reminded me of a Denny's but with more selection. When I first looked at the menu and the pictures I thought to myself, "MMMm this is going to be soooo good!!" since the wait was ~20 minutes by the time we got sat, we were ready to order! Our server took our drink order which was water and orange juice and... pretty much vanished! We didn't see her for a while and we started to get frustrated. FINALLY when we came by she didn't apologize but just told us she was here. She took our order and we waited, which seemed like another decade. And to top it off, when the food arrived, it looked very verrrry casual. I had the breakfast sampler (eggs, bacon, sausages, hashbrowns and pancakes), Anna had a savory crepe with a side of sausages and her fiancé has the strawberry crepe. The food was very mediocre and the service wasn't great at all. Maybe it was just an off day? Or maybe I'm a bit too harsh, but for some reason I expected something better. Busy = bad experience :( Off busy = great experience :) If you see a crowd packing the entrance, you're generally going to experience long and confusing waits. If you can walk right in you should be getting your food quickly. Great bang for your buck and a carafe of delicious coffee on your table. I tend to get the Denver Omelette and haven't been disappointed yet. Its big and full of well cooked and tender meat. Sugar lovers have enough syrup, jam, sugars, and desserts to pick from to invent a new type of diabetes. It is a surprisingly huge and diverse menu with something for everyone. As long as you don't come with expectations of Hotel MacDonald levels of service you'll survive the awkward but always friendly service. read more

I went in to IHOP with an expectation of basically Denny's++, and my expectations were exceeded. It was surprisingly busy for a late weekday morning... we had to get on a list and wait for awhile, but I think we only waited about 10, maybe 15 minutes tops for our table. Our server was very friendly and attentive and genuinely interested in making sure we enjoyed our food and our experience. Our food arrived pretty quickly, given how busy it was. I got pancakes with eggs, bacon and hash browns. The eggs, bacon and hash browns were pretty much your standard breakfast chain sort. Delicious grease. I had strawberry banana pancakes with that, which were way better than a recent banana pancake attempt at home. And with butter pecan syrup. Yum. One thing I like about IHOP is that they have four syrup flavours and coffee on your table so you don't have to wait. I'm also hoping they do seasonal flavours like in the US. (Pumpkin pancakes around Thanksgiving? Please?) And next time I am going to try the lingonberry crepe. I also noticed they do take-out, so if you don't want to wait but you need your chocolate chip pancakes, you're golden. read more

This was my second trip out to the Ihop and my first time actually being able to eat. First time around we had been told a 30-45 minute wait then decided to go elsewhere and while I agree with alot of the reviewers that wait times can be a bit frustrating I think one has to have a little understanding here. When the place is half dead and your still waiting then that is a whole other kettle of fish but this IS a super popular super busy restaurant. The food was definitely worth giving it a second chance! I have never had a better omelette in all my life. It was super light and fluffy and the chicken,salsa,and sour cream all tasted really fresh. The coffee like many other of the reviewers have said could strip paint off the walls. I am not sure why they feel the need to make it so strong and the two sugar and two cream I put in mine didn't seem to help much. If your hungry for a mouth watering breakfast check out Ihop! If you pulled an all nighter and need coffee that is going to keep you up for another 12 hours they got that too!! ;-) read more

I've been here multiple times. I love the food everytime. It's a very very busy location especially on weekend. Usually a 30-45 min wait on sat/sun so plan on waiting. The service is ok I did not mind any of my servers. I've ordered the French toast which unfortunately still doesn't beat Dennys French toast. I'd recommend to go here on a weekday as the weekend is just a big long line of hungry people. -1 star for long long waiting times -1 star for the look of the place...it's not warm and inviting, I feel like I'm in a cafeteria. read more

My first time here and it was a pretty good experience. Never had my own coffee pot served to me before so that was a plus right there. I had the Ham and Egg Melt with fries and everything tasted very good. I've been to Denny's, Alberts and Smittys a few times each and it's pretty much the same food there. Nothing stood out but it was good. The waiter I had, Raja, was great. He took care of us pretty well and seemed to care about how we liked our food. I believe this restaurant is only a couple years old but it looks like it's been around since the 80's and they haven't changed it. It's kind of tacky looking so I think they'd get more people in if they just spruced it up. This location is pretty out of the way for me so I don't intend to come back here much but if I'm in the area it's a possibility. read more

The last time we entered into this restaurant was on May 4, 2016, a day after we evacuated from Fort McMurray fire. We went there to have our breakfast and while waiting for our orders I was busy texting and calling our friends and co workers who were also affected by the fire and also trying to get hold of our property insurance for further instruction how to proceed with our current situation. I admit I was really busy with my phone so when the server delivered our orders I was not paying attention. But instead of trying to be nice to get my attention as expected from a restaurant server he just right away gave me a condescending sermon that I should put down my phone and give quality time with my family. My partner and I tried a couple places today but they were closed or had an insane waitlist. When we came here the waiter heard us talking about it and unknown to us chatted with the manager. The manager came back and told us that he heard us say it was not our day, but that was about to change! I have been a longtime fan of the american restaurants and longed for a great place like this here. Finally it has arrived. We went on opening day and everything was absolutely crazy. Because they had some staffing issues or something they were forced to close early so we were afraid we wouldn't get to eat, but the owner came out and made sure we were well taken care of. The staff was friendly (if new and inexperienced) and the food tasted absolutely fantastic. They didn't do drink refills, which was a little surprising, but for the amount of food I got for $12 (a very large omelette w/ stack of 3 pancakes) I left very satisfied. read more

You are seated in a dining room that is reminiscent of a hospital food court or high school cafeteria. Most likely your table will be sticky. If you are "lucky" enough to be seated in the chairs rather than in a booth you will get to hear everything your neighbor has to say because the tables are that close together. Your server will be stressed because of the high client traffic, he or she will try to smile and will attempt to remember your order. Your swiss crepes will arrive uncooked with raw batter remaining, while your partners stuffed apple cinnamon French toast will change forms without consent and arrive soaked with strawberries instead. I was excited when IHOP finally opened in Edmonton, and I was finally able to go eat there this past weekend. I was often scared off of going because of stories of long wait times, but we went at noon on a Sunday and it really wasn't that bad (15 minutes maybe). IHOP is definitely set up to accommodate people waiting, there are two large areas with benches and chairs to sit and wait for your table to be ready. I think this eased any concerns I had about waiting; we were comfortable and not crowded so the time passed quickly. The menu is pretty extensive, with many breakfast dishes, but also lots of savory dinner items. Nearly every item has a picture on the menu, which makes selecting an item difficult if you are hungry! I got a waffle with vanilla cream and fruit on top, and it was delicious. It was well cooked and very satisfying. My husband tried the jelly donut pancakes - too much jelly and not enough donut glaze, but not a complete miss either. There were a few negatives; the floor around our table was full of food, and I think I stepped in scrambled eggs at least once while sitting. Our waitress also looked like she was run off her feet. She did a fantastic job considering how busy she was, but I really felt for her, considering that some of the other servers didn't look like they were handling the same number of tables. Finally, the payment at the end wasn't ideal. You take your bill and line up at the front to pay at one of two tills. When we were there, two (very) young teens were handling the cash, and they seemed frazzled and confused. They were putting all the duplicate receipts in a big pile that was overflowing onto the floor, surrounding counters and into the mint dish, which didn't fill me with confidence handing over my credit card. The bills also don't have a name or number for your server, so if you want to tip you have to leave it at the table. IHOP gets a solid three stars - I am looking forward to going back, but there is room for improvement. read more

We were out sunday morning running errands and decided to grab breakfast, IHOP happened to be close by so we decided to give it a try as we had never been. We knew we weren't in for a 5 star dining experience, and so were able to overlook the long wait, awkward table that was in the way, distant under attendant wait staff, weak coffee, greasy eggs, paper thin bacon, and shrill screams of small children. All this we expected and were willing to deal with. What my wife and I both could not believe was the fact that a pancake house didn't seem to have a single drop of maple syrup anywhere. Sure they had plenty of the diabetes inducing high fructose corn syrup pumped full artificial maple flavour, but I was shocked to find a restaurant who supposedly specializes in pancakes doesn't seem to think real maple syrup an important condiment. A decent greasy breakfast at an average price, but hardly an international house of pancakes. read more

I stopped in here with my grandfather. We are regular breakfast dates on grocery shopping expeditions. We stopped in and while we were seated promptly, it took FOREVER to get menus. The person bringing the menus wasn't the person who would be taking our order, so we had to wait again longer to put in our drinks. By the time we got around to actually ordering food, we're about 20 minutes in already. Luckily the food came out pretty fast, and while it was just OK, it filled the hole in our bellies. The food was bland and there were fruit flies..expected a better service...damn to many fruit flies!!!!
