Crazy busy on weekends. Came at 11AM and didn't even want to know the wait time as the line was out the door. Came back a different weekend morning and was told 20minutes wait. I think we waited at least 15. Huge waiting area inside, lots of seating (?could it not be used for more tables for diners?). Place is super busy and a bit chaotic and rushed. Menu looked good, but my friend was raving about the flavored pancakes. Food took soooo long to come, I wish I would have timed it but for 2 orders of pancakes (granted 1 was a special order AND I ordered chicken which may have been freshly fried) I was shocked how long it took. I know we arrived at just after 11AM and didn't get food until after 12:20PM. I got the chicken breakfast sandwich + classic pancake. It was tasty but after soo much waiting would not order again. Friend got the seasonal lemon pancakes. Liked same. Overall I would love to try more of the menu but between the wait to get seated and the wait for food I probably won't make much of an effort to come back. read more

If I could give this place 0 stars, I would. I came here hoping for fluffy pancakes and left with emotional trauma. Service? What service? The waiter looked like they were auditioning for Survivor: IHOP Edition. I waited 25 minutes just to get a menu and an extra 20 to see a water glass. When the food finally arrived, I was tempted to ask if they mailed it from another state. Food: My pancakes tasted like sadness and disappointment. Flatter than my hopes and dreams, and somehow as chewy as a dog toy. The syrup looked like motor oil and may very well have been. I wouldn't feed this to a raccoon. Atmosphere: I wasn't expecting a Michelin star dining experience, but this place had the ambiance of a haunted hospital cafeteria. Sticky tables, questionable smells, and music so outdated that my ears begged for mercy. Cleanliness: I've seen cleaner gas station bathrooms. Would I recommend to a friend? No, not even my greatest enemy. The service was inadequate. We were seated and not seen for 10 minutes. After the first interaction our server was never to be see again. The food? Wrong. My friend ordered chocolate chip pancakes and got plain, my other friend was given raw chicken, and all together the eggs were deviously cold. When we asked another server if we could get the bill the response was a roll. And you would think for a Saturday morning the ambiance would be bright and busy full. But no. We came here on a BUSY Saturday for brunch. The placed was packed, food delivery orders were plenty, and the place was bustling. We didn't have reservations, but luckily for us we only waited about 7 minutes for a seat! We knew that business would likely be slower given just HOW busy they were, but to our surprise it wasn't too bad, and we had wonderful company so were busy chit chatting anyhow. We absolutely loved our food. The new eggs Benedict was delightful, and I'm a big fan of their hollandaise sauce. Nephew absolutely devoured his savoury crepe & Mexican Tres leches pancakes. What started as a nice evening out with my husband, soon turned into a 2 day fiasco (and counting). Had a sit in dinner at around 9:30 pm, to a pretty empty, quiet resturant. Which it being a breakfast spot and it being 9PM i understood why so obviously it would be a little dead. The food was okay, nothing special and nothing to disgusting. Trouble started after it was time to pay. DO NOT USE THE QR CODE ON THE TABLE TO PAY! as my dumb self used the QR code to paid, and it went smoothly (on my end) the app showed me my bill, the things we ate and drank. Easy peasy, so i paid, and got a cute little confirmation message with a star! We get up to leave and the server (who was excellent at his job) asked us to wait because it hadnt shown up in the system yet. we agreed to stay behind and wait a second, even after showing him and the night manager the confirmation screen. Seconds into minutes, and eventually the night manager says something along the lines of "this is a new system. We aren't quite sure of it yet/knowledgeable about it yet, so we think it must not have gone through." After checking our online bank account, to make sure we weren't charged (Heads up here, banks don't update your app after 10 pm) we agreed to pay again. Next morning we check our bank account and look at that, 2 charges of the same amount at no other then IHOP. We returned that morning (which is a 40km drive for us) and were welcomed by a very helpful server?(Manger?) who eventually got us a person from the back who i assumed was the owner. She was also very helpful and reassured us that they would fix it in no time. We sat waiting in the front lobby for about 20 mins, until a quiet man came towards us. He sheepishly pushed out the debit machine and meekly said "same card as last night?" i said yes as he plugged in the amount into the machine and again he just stood there silent as if i were the one to make everything right? Machine wasn't working. imagine. It kept saying there was a refund amount limit. 2 debit machines later and he dissappears into the back (with both of our receipts from last night confirming we did pay,). We again sat in the front lobby waiting, the owner even came out and asked, "have you been helped yet?" as if us still being there surprised her. 5 mins later, she returns and says the IT guy (who, is the silent guy) is on the phone with the QR company, and today you will have you refund. She asked for my phone number to call or text just so SHE could confirm it. It ended well. it was a good solution. Well Today is sunday, and still no refund, nor a text or call. Being tired of this game, i decided to call. I rang them up and asked to speak to the manager hoping it would be the women from yesterday. It was the IT guy, sheepish. I started to state how i was there yesterday about a refun..."49 something? yeah you'll get that this week" I was shocked by the utter disrespect and tone in his voice, as if i was bothering him. I mentioned how he could probably be a bit more polite and all he said was "Sorry miss, you'll get your money this week." with the same tone. to say this has been a runaround is to put it lightly. To having dealt with some of the most understanding staff, to then having to deal with this nightmare of a man, with no iota of customer service, has definitely put me off of THIS location of IHOP. (Side note just for fun; They only offered us a free drink to help with the situation. A drink. not a bag of 11 dollar coffee for our 40 km drive, or even just our 50 dollars in cash. Easy peasy. My friend and I decided to stop into the Ihop tonight for a quick dinner. The place was empty and we were seated promptly. The restaurant is severely understaffed - only two waitresses who were running ragged by the time we left. My complaint is about the food. I ordered the BLTA sandwich and fries. The fries were under cooked. The sandwich was over cooked - the corner of the bread was burnt and tough to chew. I mean seriously, how can one screw up a classic BLT sandwich? The coffee was also watered down. I don't like complaining, but this was just bad. And I felt sorry for the waitress so I didn't complain to her. I make a mean breakfast. I'm serious. So when I go out for brunch I have my expectations set high. Because of this I rarely frequent chain breakfast restaurants. My husband took me to ihop this weekend, insisting that it's good. I went along and was pleasantly surprised with our experience. We arrived at approx 1 pm and were seated promptly. I called a server over to show her. she went back somewhere and came back to tell me I woupod not have to pay for mr meal. This is the second time same server around 2pm that I have been to this location. The first time in November 2022 about a month ago I ordered coffee the 2X2X2 (scrambled eggs, sausages and gluten free pancakes) and water with no ice. The server insisted I get the bacon, I said I wanted sausages and she finally relented. I got eggs over easy instead of scrambled and ice in my water. Ugh. I told the server about the eggs, and halfway through my meal it arrived. Tipped even though I wasn't happy. The second time was today, same problem. I ordered the same thing however there was no argument about the sausages. I got water with ice, and bacon ugh. I like this IHOP location...it caters to my family preferences by being in close proximity to child friendly stores like Walmart & Toys'r'us. There's lots of parking, decent amount of seating for both the waiting area & the dining area. I've never found the wait to be long either. It's nothing fancy, but it's clean & kid friendly with a kids menu, colouring paper & crayons, high chairs & change tables. Service also feels quite neighbourly, friendly & intuitive to their patrons needs and I've never felt pressured to hurry. There always seems to be some kind of menu special happening too & the last time I went, it was holiday stuff, so I went for the gingerbread hot chocolate...it kinda tasted like gingerbread, but leaning more towards liquid candy cola gummy flavour. I find the meals are generously portioned too. I got an omelette; it was fairly large & it came with 3 pancakes! Honestly, it was enough for a moderate sized breakfast for 2...glad I brought a friend to share with! This place is quite large inside, parking is fairly big. Staff is friendly. Atmosphere is family friendly. What's so great about this place you ask? They serve breakfast lunch and supper, just like Denny's. American style i suppose. Lots of selections and even the pancakes. Wow so much creativity for my sugar tooth. Washrooms are well kept. Dining space is spacious, can be busy depending on the meal times. They have the most tastiest loaded baked potato soup with bacon, better than subway. For this cold weather it's a must try. Steak meal was okay, i prefer the heavy stuff in fine dining restaurants, this one was cut for me in pieces. Great place for a get together with friends or family. You can see people staying here for hours just chatting even after meals, I think that's also why this place gets busy. Recommended for anyone ready to eat a dining meal. read more

We did not have a good experience here. Service was slow, I think the forgot about us and then forgot our order, and the food was not great. And it was not busy so there was no excuse. I had the the smokehouse combo breakfast. Eggs, hashbrowns sausage and pancakes. It had gotten cold and I don't like the shredded hashbrowns. I asked for the whole grain with nuts style pancakes. The pancakes were great. Estrenia had a spicy jalapeno burger with onion rings. When it came there were only four onion rings. She also ordered a drink that sounded good, but when it came it was a glass of orange juice with strawberry jam at the bottom. We raised the issues and they were open to remaking food for us. But it had taken so long we had to get going. I do like how they drop off a whole pot of coffee at the table so we can always have a full cup. read more

I finally felt it was safe to venture over to IHOP this weekend. I had been hearing a lot of reports of long waits for tables and food after the American chain opened its first Edmonton location back in December. We arrived shortly before 6 and while there was a healthy crowd, it was certainly manageable. The waitress was very friendly and the atmosphere reminded me of a hotel or boardroom - not a family restaurant. That aside, we ordered our drinks (a combination of orange juice, lime soda, and strawberries) and perused the menu. As to be expected, there are a lot of breakfast items, particularly ones with pancakes, eggs, meat, and fruit. I was surprised at how much of the menu were dinner items like pot roast and various sandwiches. There is definitely something for everyone. It reminded me of a glorified Denny's, with similar prices. I opted for a breakfast item called Steak Tips and Eggs. It was a mountain of steak tips in a savoury sauce with sauteed onions and mushrooms, with two eggs, hashbrowns, ad two pancakes. Not a typical steak and eggs, the steak tips were juicy and the onions and mushrooms really made the dish. I loved the hashbrowns - they were better than some diners I have been to - and the pancakes were small, but fluffy. I used them to absorb egg yolk and gravy from the steak tips. On the other side of the table was pot roast, which came with buttered corn and mashed potatoes, served with a bowl of soup to start. The soup was apparently not all that flavourful, but he really enjoyed the pot roast. Overall the portions were large, prices reasonable, and the food tasted great. I would definitely head back to IHOP if I was on the south side and craving breakfast food. read more

As a disclaimer I usually don't go to chains. However, chains have their place I think. When you have a big group of people with a wide age range and food taste...And sometimes when you kid is starving and you need somewhere kid friendly that is fast. My auntie decided to treat us to Ihop because she thought my little miss would like it. I inwardly sighed but decided to go ahead anyway. I ordered the southern sizzler and it was okay. Not super flavourful, and not spicy at all. A little disappointing. I think from now on my strategies for this kind of thing is to just order bacon and eggs because it is really hard to mess that up. My kid loved her kids meal. There are a tonne of options if you like sweet pancakes. I don't..but I am sure if you have a sweet tooth this would be a place to go. I lived in the US for 3 years and became a big IHOP fan while I was there. I then moved back to Toronto and was without IHOP for about a year until I moved to Edmonton. I was so excited to have an IHOP near where I lived again. For the first little while, it was great. But over the last 5 years it's gone downhill ... fast. First and foremost, the service at the IHOP on Calgary Trail has always been less than stellar. Today the service was average or slightly below average. And I'll never understand why there's a whole section of tables available, yet there's a wait. Plus ... today I walked in and up to the "Please Wait to be Seated" place and waited. A server came over to help me, and just as she said hello to me, another server (or maybe a manager) called to her from the front desk and asked her to get payment for a takeout order. I paused and waited to see what she'd do. I was pleasantly surprised when she told the guy who called her over to wait one second and she took my name for the list, then she went to help him. Based on this other guy's behaviour, I wouldn't have been surprised had she just ignored me and went right over to him. But she didn't and I was impressed (by her ... not the other guy). Second, the menu has changed (well ... it's technically changed, but the physical menu has not, so it's confusing). They no longer have two of the things I love ... stuffed french toast and the strawberries brioche french toast. Both of which I attempted to order today and found out they no longer exist. It's extremely disappointing when you walk into a restaurant expecting to order a particular item ... find it on the menu ... ask for it ... and are then told "we no longer make that." Needless to say, today will be my last visit to IHOP. There's no point in going back. The one remaining reason why I liked it is now gone and it offers no other incentives (i.e., service, quality, prices, etc.) to make the trip worthwhile. p.s. And they've never had wifi. Pretty meh, IMO. Overhyped. I've been to this place a few times - for me it's one of those places that's fine to go to once in awhile but I wouldn't visit regularly. Waffles are pretty good but seem to be more filling than other places - which I guess is good or bad depending on how hungry you are. :) The pancakes have gone downhill a bit, IMO. They're less fluffy than they used to be and seem to have lost more structural integrity then they used to as each bite splits into 2 pieces much moreso than in the past. In the past, I could eat every bite of my pancake without it falling into 2 pieces mid transport to my mouth or after picking it up with my fork. Not anymore. I went there this morning for the 2 * 2 * 2 combo - 2 pancakes with 2 eggs and 2 slices of bacon. Kudos on the bacon - properly crisp, eggs were pretty good, pancakes good except for said structural integrity gaps in them. One more peculiar picadillo I found was I found something crunchy in the eggs. At first I wrote it off as eggshells, but then realized that egg shells don't break down easily and have to be removed from your mouth with your fingers, whereas this crunch was broken down easily. Then I looked at the pepper shaker and it hit me - the pepper was a lot more course than it was in most restaurants and that was what was crunchy (I had sprinkled salt and pepper on my eggs). They need finer pepper in the shakers, IMO. Prices are very competitive with most places that serve pancakes, so kudos for that as well. Service is pretty good too, especially for a restaurant of this size. Overall this place does alright - right now they're OK but with a few tweaks of things they could be even better. read more

The food isn't much different than Dennys yet you pay more, the service is decent, I've never had to wait long for food or beverages. In my option, this ihop is over rated, the wait on the weekends is unbelievably ridiculous, I've gone where the wait time is almost an hour...for what, a few pancakes and a decent cup of coffee. I'll start with the good news - my stuffed french toast was hot, fresh and quite tasty. It did, however, come 30 minutes after the rest of our group's food. First things first. We came in willing to wait but, after an hour and a half of sitting in the lobby, it turned out that they had skipped our name on the list. The front staff apoligized and sat us within 15 more minutes. After 10 more minutes, the waitress came to take our drink orders. We finally received them 20 minutes after that. We placed our meal orders, and tried to stop looking at the clock. When we got our food (mostly), some of the toppings were different, but we were so hungry at this point that everything was devoured. I'd like to state that very little of this was the waitress' fault. It seemed as though the entire staff was poorly-trained and confused. There was an excess of managment roaming the floor, doing very little to help. I'd chalk this all up to opening issues and head back in a few months when it had calmed down, if it were not for the final straw. We asked to speak to a manager as we were paying. As we were commenting our dining experience, we were told, "You're just one guy, your opinion doesn't matter." I'm not going back to this location. Even if the french toast was tasty. read more

Face it, people -- you don't go to IHOP for gourmet or ambiance, you go for a heaping stack of good old carbs! And do carbs ever disappoint? Personally, not at IHOP. It's one of my top 5 places for comfort food. Just gimme a big stack of those old-fashioned buttermilk pancakes and lay on the syrup! Yeah, I'm an easy girl to please, but don't tell anyone else that. I have and always will love pancakes. And I always used to lament that Edmonton paled in comparison to Vancouver (Burnaby specifically) because we did not have an IHOP. (There's something odd when you don't much care about the ocean and the mountains but more for pancakes) So when the fiance and I were driving back from the airport one night on Calgary Trail, I gasped and found myself literally unable to speak after seeing the billboard announcing that IHOP was finally coming to Edmonton. My fiance was freaked out of his mind, as he thought there was something wrong as he was driving. No matter what time of day it is, morning, noon or evening, I will exercise my right to have pancakes. So naturally, my first meal here was a dinner of pancakes. That's normal enough, right? If you're a fellow pancake-lover and have a sweet tooth, I recommend getting the Tooti-Fruiti (I'm so not making that name up), which comes with strawberry pieces and strawberry sauce drizzled on top. If your sugar tastebuds don't rule your mouth, go for a combination instead. You can choose your type of pancakes and throw them together with the classic side choices of bacon, sausage links, eggs, or hashbrowns. I'm going to be honest and admit their scrambled eggs are not so great --they're pretty much some kinda pre-mixed egg liquid they pour into the frying pan and stir up, i.e. not fresh. But you don't go to IHOP for the eggs! You go for the pancakes ... they're not called The International House of Pancakes for nothing! If you plan on going, avoid Sunday afternoons as it is mayhem. We attempted going one Sunday around 1:30 PM and the waiting area was packed. One woman walked out muttering, "It's not worth it." So be forewarned! A table of twenty behind us, shame on the parents and management for letting a group of ten plus kids run roughshod over the place. Worst experience I have ever had. We complained to the manger and he states that this happens once a month. We will not return for the lack of respect to other patrons received from this group and management. This place was a saviour during rush hour traffic last night. There was a blizzard that was making it impossible to get anywhere on the roads, so my mom and I decided to meet here to wait it out and let everyone else get home before we got back on the roads. There were only 2 other tables with patrons at them. Which was an odd sight... I've never seen it empty before. What really impressed me was that none of the employees appeared to be taking advantage of the lack of customers. They weren't sitting around goofing off. They were still working... and finding things to do. It seemed like there were 2 new employees being trained, and I could hear the more experienced employees walking with them around the restaurant, explaining how the table numbers worked and stuff like that. Our server, Art, was very attentive and VERY funny. He made our time quite enjoyable. We weren't actually all that hungry, but we ordered some apps to much on while we waited. So bad. We were in Edmonton for the weekend and looking for a place to have breakfast on Saturday morning. After a delicious meal the night before, I wanted some comforting breakfast food to start my day. We saw the IHOP sign and sped over - after eating there in LA & Palm Springs, I was pretty excited to see one in Edmonton. It was around 10AM, so I knew it would be busy, but we ended up waiting almost 30 minutes, which was definitely not worth it. Once we were seated, we were greeted by the most AWKWARD server! We could hardly hear him because he was mumbling, and seemed like he didn't know what he was doing. Whatever, no big deal, we'll just order and eat. I'll start with our drinks. The coffee = gasoline. It was the strongest, most pungent, disgusting coffee I have ever had. The aftertaste was that of lighter fluid. It was awful. Usually I can pretty much drink whatever kind of coffee is around when I need my caffeine fix, but this was just BRUTAL. I stuck with my water for most of my meal. I ordered an omelet and my boyfriend ordered a potato-eggs-bacon dish, which was all mixed together and topped with sour cream and chives. It actually looked really good. My omelet, however, was topped with grated bagged cheese THAT WAS STILL COLD. I mean seriously! You couldn't at least melt the cheese? It was cold, bland, and pretty much awful. My boyfriends meal wasn't too bad, I snuck a few bites and I liked it (although it could be the fact I've been on a low-carb diet and it was the first time I'd had potatoes in a while), but nothing extraordinary. The only thing I liked was the pancakes that came with the meal, but even they didn't come with butter because it fell off the plate when the server brought it to our table (then it just sat on the floor beside us). When we were getting ready to settle the bill, the table next to us was being cleared and the same server asked them if they had room for dessert. When he walked away we all laughed - who the hell eats dessert at 11AM? For breakfast? Lol it was really awkward. Basically, don't waste your money here. If I could give this place zero stars, I would. We went into this ihop on Pancake Tuesday. They were somehow short staffed. Our food was cold and our drinks warm. To top it off our waitress spanked a five year old for grabbing crayons at the front, and the manager did nothing. read more
